if you’re a gifmaker, you need to read this

staff has announced that on may 15, they’re forcing everyone to switch to the new beta post editor. this is very, very bad for gifs. @saintalicent made a post detailing the difference between the old and new post editors, but basically the new post editor shoves gifs into a text post and slightly resizes them, lowering the quality of the gifs.

gifmakers are the backbone of this website, and staff needs to be reminded of this. if you’re a gifmaker, please send polite feedback to staff explaining that you don’t want the quality of your gifs to be reduced and that this will negatively affect your experience on this website.

we got them to back off on the gif to mp4 thing last year, and we need them to back off on this. please reblog for visibility.

it is 8 am and my brain will not shut up about how Fjord "nOT uNDerStANdiNg" Jester is the whole damn point of the ship. like yes, he didn't immediately clock that Jester was putting on a sunshine act. of course, he didn't. he has a mechanical -2 to insight and ten layers of his own performative bullshit encasing him like armor and besides, he's likely assuming Jester would just tell him if there was something wrong. they already know so much about each other that the rest of the group doesn't. what's the point of secrets?

so yeah, it has to be pointed out to him, but what does Fjord do when he realizes Jester is not what he initially thought? he asks her about her feelings. he does the work to understand her better, and he fucks up on occasion because he has his own things he needs to work through and he doesn't understand exactly where the lines are, what's going to make her feel protected and what's going to make her feel patronized, but he puts in the effort with Jester because he cares about Jester. and I hate to say it because the idea that someone might just magically see the real you is oh so romantic in fiction, but that's what a real relationship is. that sort of work is what any sort of love is built on. it's not about inherently just getting it. it's about effort and change and devotion and being vulnerable whether that means lowering your shields to confide in someone or just looking like an idiot to make someone happy.

and this ain't even getting into how once he does start asking the right questions and gets to know her on that next level, Fjord does understand Jester because she is almost exactly like him.

to those saying that tumblr’s decision to begin converting gif/gifv to mp4 will not significantly impact quality, here’s a side by side comparison to prove you wrong.

here’s what a normal gif (made using photoshop, sharpened and colored, dimensions are 540x615px) looks like on the tumblr dashboard:

if you’re a content creator, the difference is very very significant, even more so when zooming in. people who claim otherwise should maybe consider listening to gif makers who actually… create gifs??? and have a process??? that takes time and energy as it is??? and all of that will be completely undone if staff decides to implement this change sitewide. it will worsen the quality of gifs even more. it will drive content creators away from the site for good.

rather than argue to the contrary, please continue to do what you can to support creators and bring this to staff’s attention.

the narrative of this woman choosing love above all else for just once, seeing their fear of what she’s become and just, choosing to save her friend and the love of her life, in a split second, in an impulse decision.

the narrative of the woman letting her heart make a decision one time, just one time, and this one time causing an apocalypse.

In an episode that was devastating for all the characters, I ended it feeling the most devastated for Nydas. 

Because whatever their reasons, in that end scene, Nydas was the only one actively protecting the Tree. Laerynn was trying to destroy it, Quay wouldn’t actively try to stop her, Zerxus and Patia both tried to walk the middle ground of ‘let me gather information before committing to an action’…

It was just Nydas. And he failed. 

And I think Lou’s comment that he never expected to be in this position is poignant. He expected Nydas to be on the hubris side of calamity-causing. He never expected Nydas to be the one person standing against it. 

Add that to the way Lou roleplayed him…just riddled with desperation, pleading, pleading, pleading, not wanting to hurt his friends, but not wanting the blood of an age to be on their hands…he was in a position he never expected and he tried so hard, but he failed, and I’m genuinely heartbroken for him.
