 The quiet beeping, steady for now but sure to increase sooner or later if she doesn't get a move on, only serves to exacerbate the budding panic brought on by the added weight, sharp metal digging into her face. She's died by these before, and it's not a fate she ever wants to relive. Currently, she's backed into a corner, tracking nearby footsteps with her ears, not quite feeling safe enough to make a search for the key, hoping desperately that nobody triggers the actual straight-up torture device caging her body and makes the clock really tick.

I've said this before but Jane's main "type" is absolutely "someone who does not put her on a pedestal or treat her like glass". She is so used to that transactional relationship and unwanted power over another person that someone just treating her like a person is kind of cathartic. In the Fog, she's very much shuttered and stoic even compared to how on-guard she was at the later stages of her life, but it's when someone can break down that barrier that she really starts to take notice. On some level, I think she needs to know she can fuck up and be flawed without it ruining someone's idealized perspective of her.

This is also why I kind of like shipping her with killers - it's a kind of "you've already seen me bleeding out on the other end of your knife, so it can only go uphill from here" kind of deal.
