The situation had progressed into something rather interesting. James bit his lower lip, then registered that Val was now flirting with him. He was taken back at first, although that had passed quickly as it had showed. "So you're like a visual learner, hm?" He questioned, curiously. "I don't mind that at all. It's always best to show what you're doing, than imagining." He paused, then quickly added, "I'm some-what of a kinetic learner myself. You know, touching and moving." It was surprising how James could take innocent learning labels, and turn it into something more. He often joked with his friends that it was a blessing. "The next time we're together, it can be like a study session. We'll teach one another, and learn. That's one of the things I'm into. You'll find out the others in the future." James had shifted at the edge, so he could turn and face Val, then he winked. He soon sighed, and nodded. James knew that he should see Val more, but school had kept him occupied. "It isn't fair, I know. It's too bad you can't live with us. Jake can sleep on the floor, and you can take his bed. Or you can sleep with me. It doesn't matter. I'll try to show up more often, okay?" Soon, James had fallen silent. He was a senior after all, and he had been given more homework than any other year. He was told to think of his future, and of a career. It was frightening. He didn't want to graduate, nor did he want to leave the academy. He didn't respond to Val's comment of staying in contact, because he hadn't thought that ahead yet.
James grew more intrigued with the babysitting topic. He did hear that she had started babysitting someone, but wasn't sure of whom or how old the child was. He nodded, and listened. "The next time you're babysitting, mind if I see her? I could help, you know. I looked after Katie." He hoped she would take his offer. It was the least he could do, since he was terrible at seeing her during school days. The silence that began to develop once again alerted James. This was a different type of silence. There was something within the air that made him wonder what was going through Val's mind. He glanced at her. The yearning of wanting to ask began to grow, but he ignored it. Too much questions could end in disaster. When Val had finally answered him, she had obviously sounded different from before. James took a sharp breath, and raised his brows. "Couples are everywhere in the world." He told her, still surprised. "You grow to live with them. Just go out there, and talk to whoever you want. You're Val, for god sake. You're confident, and do whatever the hell you want. Having couples set you back is unlike you." He shook his head, like it was unfortunate. "It's not that different - socializing with those who have someone. If it helps, I don't have anyone, so..." His eyes narrowed, as he tried to find the right word to describe it. James shook his head, his hand now rubbing the nape of his neck. I don't have anyone seemed to echo in his mind and preventing him from finishing.
Val || Hanging out.
Nodding slowly as James stated that he was into other things, Valerie couldn’t help the quiet snicker as she had thought after thought run through her mind at top speed. It wasn’t surprising that her mind had taken a turn for the less than PG rated thoughts as soon as he’d mentioned her being his nurse. It never took much of a push for Val’s mind to hit gutter level and, while amusing, was not always approved of. “I’m sure you could show me too. I don’t always understand things just by hearing them.” Laughing quietly, Valerie shifted so she was sitting up more, grabbing a pillow so she could lean forward, using the pillow to aid in the position. “You should. That’s why I was planning to hold you hostage. I hardly get to see you and that’s not fair. I don’t want to have to live in your room just to see you. I mean…I’m not opposed and if I could get away with it, I’d probably move in with you and Jake. I feel like I’d be less reclusive there than here which doesn’t make sense but whatever.” It wasn’t an appealing thought to Valerie to think that she was being reclusive but she didn’t have a better way of explaining it and she wouldn’t say it to anyone but she didn’t feel as close to Juliette as she was to James, Jake, or even Sam. Pinching her lips together at his statement that she could hug him to smell him anytime she wanted to, a faint glimmer of mischief crossing her expression before snapped herself back to reality with the realization that they didn’t have all too many classes together. “Firstly, I don’t just want to hug you to smell you and either way, that’d be easier if we saw each other more often. We already don’t have many classes together and you’re a Senior so you’ll be out of here before me. You better keep in touch too. If you don’t, I’ll cast some spell on you.”
“It’s not all that bad. I’m used to it now. I’ve been babysitting this girl since she was born basically. She’s adorable. She’s doing alright. Back with her family for the rest of the day.” Valerie hadn’t known what more to say so she was thankful for the silence that followed, knowing it’d give her time to pull her thoughts together. The topic of Mikayla had thrown her off, Valerie having had to filter what she said to James about the young girl, especially being they were still at the school and it wasn’t a safe place for most things to be said. At least not if you wanted some things to stay secret. Happy for the change of topic as James broke the silence, Valerie couldn’t help the noise that slipped past her lips, sounding every bit unhappy. “Lucky. You should tell me your secrets. I need to know how to be social among all the couples. That’s probably my real social kicker right there. Couples that spend little to no time with friends anymore.”

According to James, Val seemed to be rambling about his comment of her being his nurse. "I'm into other things, too. If you want to find out, you can." He said, amusingly. He couldn't help but find her comment a riot. The way she was acting made James wanted to smile; her presentation of herself, and her comments had caused him to become enthused. "I should hang around you more often, since you make up new words. Pretty soon, you'll be the reason there's another dictionary." He laughed. "Girls play dirty, too. Girl's, in general, smell good. So it's a tie." James shrugged, not phased by her comment. "If you ever want to hug me just to smell my cologne, just jump into my arms. Even if we're in class. I don't care who's watching."
"Babysitting," he repeated, as he focused on the floor. "Sure sounds like a ball of fun. Well, it gives you of a work related experience, doesn't it? It helped me when I watched my sister, Katie." James allowed the thought of his younger sister to take over his mind. He hadn't seen her in awhile; the realization of missing his younger sister had kicked in. Not wanting to be a downer to Val, he told himself to become happier, and not think about his family. "How's the kid doin'? I don't know who you're babysitting." James thought over what was new with him. He could discuss so much about school, yet it was a boring topic for him. "I've been busy with friends, and keeping up with everyone else. This school sure is dramatic, huh? Something is always going on."
Val || Hanging out.
Hearing his next words, Valerie about doubled over and she would have had it not been merely silent laughter, her body shaking but unable to produce any sound to accompany the movements. What amused the blonde more was how appealing it had sounded to her, as if she would have no problem when she knew in any other situation, she’d have steered clear of anything resembling it. “Oh. So you’re into that, are you? That’s good to know. Like…extremely good. Ginormously good and I know that isn’t a word but it is now. You never know though. I might just do that. Anyway, it’s close to a hug and hugs are good and I could get away with smelling you cause for some reason, guys had to smell annoyingly good. Cologne and all. It’s not fair to us girls. You all play dirty.”
When they both were seated and Valerie admitted to not having planned that far ahead and she’d gotten a response from James, a silence gradually washed over the room. It wasn’t awkward though. It gave the blonde time to cast her gaze around the shared room, grateful for Juliette not being there at the moment. It was bad enough having Mikayla with her and Valerie’s assumptions on the brunette’s endless questions involving the young girl but to now have James there as well as Mikayla, although the latter not being there at that particular moment, it was too much at once and she didn’t want to think about the reaction she’d get from the normally bubbly brunette. Casting her gaze towards James as he spoke up, she couldn’t hide the smile that grew naturally just as it normally did and nodded in approval. His question drug a shrug out of the blonde as she wrinkled her nose in dislike of the answer that she had yet to speak. “Nothing much of anything. Besides babysitting of course. That’s the only new thing besides hanging with you now and Sammie. I suck and have no life right now. What about you?”

He was set back for a brief moment. James was a vampire, and whenever he was injured, he could always heal then return to his normal state. He thought it over, then shrugged it over. "I may be a vampire, but that doesn't mean you can't treat me like a patient. You could be my nurse. An injury doesn't have to be physical." He replied, smoothly. "What if I was hurt mentally? You could hold me... close." He nearly whispered the last word; his voice had deepened, and a rather curious glint flashed over his eyes. His eyes had moved down to her mouth. James noticed that she was pouting. The pout made her look adorable - the way her full lips would press together, and her eyes that he would often gaze into. James glanced away from Val, as if he was pulling himself out of a hypnotic state.
"Aw. I'll be sure to remember that next time it would happen." It was his turn to pout. His eyes saddened, as if the news were terrible to take. The expression lasted a minute, then his normal features had taken it's place. James had gotten comfortable on the bed. He sat near the edge of the mattress, and his right leg had stretched out. James turned his head, after Val had moved to the bed, and looked at the blond. "Mission accomplished. I'm here." He commented, then his eyes moved around the room. It felt like it had been months since he had been in Val's room. It was still the same, but he wondered what had changed. Something felt different. He couldn't decipher what, and it was bugging him. "We'll go with the flow," He added, breaking the silence. "Whatever happens, happens." James raised his brow, and smirked at Val. "Tell me, what's new exactly?"
Val || Hanging out.
There was a slight pause after Val had asked who the dragon was that James had mentioned and, though she didn’t say anything, she could almost tell that the only person either of them could have come up with as the dragon would have been Nick. Nick was the only person she wasn’t close with anymore. Thankfully, it wasn’t spoken by either of them as James bypassed the question altogether. As much as she’d expected James to react a certain way to her comment about a scratch, it wasn’t how he’d actually reacted and she couldn’t help the light laugh as his words reached her ears. “I should have expected that. Wait…. If there was a scratch, it’d have healed by now. I remembered your a vampire but I forgot that you’d heal faster than me. I’m sad now. I forgot something so simple to remember.” Making a slight pouty face, Valerie drug out her disappointment in herself even though it had already long since disappeared, only having been a momentary thing.
Rolling her eyes good-naturedly, Valerie covered her face momentarily as James spoke. When he’d finished, she let out a quiet groan, looking at him as she formulated a reply. “Don’t tease me, Hunter. Another time another place. Right now is the time for socializing with a long lost friend that I want to hold hostage.” Nodding as she spoke the last sentence, Valerie’s expression was every bit serious. She was glad for the knowledge that it wouldn’t be misunderstood or mistaken for creepy psycho girl. Unfortunately, it also meant that he knew her weaknesses and could use them against her. When he’d stepped inside, taking a seat on her bed, Val had shut the door, knowing it’d cut down on nosy people passing by her room if any were to do so but mostly out of habit. Shrugging at his question, she joined him on the bed, leaning against her pillow and stretching her legs out. “I didn’t plan that far ahead. Just getting you to my room. We can figure the rest out.”

He nodded his head at her princess question. However, when she raised the question of whom was the dragon, James licked his lower lip. He glanced away from Valerie. There was a temptation to claim Nick as the dragon, but he knew to not speak of him. It was a touchy subject, he assumed. Instead of saying anything, his eyes moved back to Val. "If there's a scratch," he began, noticing that she was fighting a smile. "Why don't you give me first aid?" James teased. He wanted to step forward, but he knew he would be pushing it. Luckily for him Val was relaxing, and going along with his joking. He knew that she would. If only she would do that for everyone else, then they would see how relaxed she truly was, than the person who appeared to be heavily guarded. James would often catch himself watching Val whenever she wasn't aware. He would admire her features - her high cheekbones, her contagious smile, and the way she appeared to be so focused on anything. James would never admit it, but he was rather fond of Val, and he was trying to decipher of a well depth reason.
"Are you scared that I'll bite?" He grinned widely. "You know that I can if you want me to. Hard, soft, it doesn't matter to me. Whatever your heart desires." The flirting seemed to deepen as the conversation went along. James knew that he should try to cut it down for her comfort, but he could never know when to stop or seek a sign that it was far too much. Val had stepped aside, a good sign that he was permitted in. He flashed a rather innocent smile at Val, then walked into the room. James glanced around the familiar bedroom, then seated himself on Val's bed. "So, what shall we do?"
Val || Hanging out.
“I’m the princess in this, right? Who or what was the dragon?” Valerie couldn’t manage hiding the smile on her face that only grew more due to the amusing situation that James had presented. “Are you sure? I think I see a scratch. A big one.” Val was only teasing of course and she hoped he knew. She was never good at joking anyway, always having a hard time keeping a straight face whenever she was. During a brief pause in their conversation, Valerie permitted herself to take in James’ appearance. It wasn’t a secret that James always looked amazing and the blonde would swear to that if anyone had asked. With the looks, the humor, and the protectiveness, it wasn’t surprising that he was a catch and Valerie would’ve been lying if she’d said she never liked him. Knowing Nick wasn’t as wrong as she made him out to be bugged her immensely but she wasn’t in any rush to inform the school of such. Anyway, Nick’s theory had been that she and James were together at that time and that was anything but true. It just happened that they were closer than she was with Nick.
It didn’t take long for Val to be pulled from her thoughts by James’ question and after giving it a bit of thought, she tilted her head a bit, an unsure expression planting itself on her face where her smile had been moments earlier. “I dunno. Being a vampire and all…wouldn’t that be a bad thing?” Pinching her lips together after the last word slipped past her lips, Val stepped to the side, calming herself enough so she could speak. “Come on in.”

"Well, I did have to fight a dragon." James began, shaking his head slightly. "You know, having to save the princess and everything, there had to be dragon. Luckily, it didn't make a scratch on my gorgeous face." He was half kidding about his appearance, but everyone seemed to be aware of his self adoration that he had, although some would prefer to define it as conceited. James raised his brow; then turned his head slightly, as the rest of her comment had registered. "Obnoxiously." He repeated, then rolled his eyes. "But you did admit that I was gorgeous, so I'll let that slide." He laughed, then leaned against the door frame. James was far taller than Val, so he had to look down at her. She was petite, beautiful, and rather memorizing to study. James found it rather amusing he could be so enthralled with a girl like Val, the girl who spoke her mind so freely that James wondered why he wasn't terrified of her. 'Because she's not like other girls,' Was the defending thought that would come into mind whenever his mind would wander toward the subject of Val. It was true. She wasn't like the other girls. She was different. A type of different that appeared to be rare in the modern world, and it fascinated James.
"Are you going to invite me in?" He asked, grinning innocently. He didn't want his mind to take over, nor did he want thoughts to flood in. Right now, he needed to spend time with Val. It felt like years since he last spoke to her, and was close to her like this. "Or shall we just hang out in the hall?"
Val || Hanging out.
It never crossed Valerie’s mind to plan to meet up with James at a different location than the room she shared with Juliette that was now being occupied as well by a girl that the blonde was babysitting, or at least that’s what she told everyone. It wasn’t entirely a lie though so it didn’t bother her as badly as her family tried to make it out to seem it would. She couldn’t help but be visibly excited as James said he’d be over soon. She’d had a great day and she’d be lying if she said she wasn’t at least a little bit hyper. To have James coming over only heightened her great mood.
She didn’t need to do any tidying besides picking up the sippy cup that she nearly stepped on multiple times that day, setting it on the bedside table and making herself comfortable as she waited. She didn’t know how long it’d take James to get there. Thankfully, it wasn’t as long as she’d thought as she heard the knock at the door before his voice rang out clearly despite the door being closed. Laughing as she walked to the door, Valerie pulled it open, a wide smile instantly forming on her face. “Good to see you made it. I wasn’t sure how long it’d take before I saw your obnoxiously gorgeous face.”

Val || Hanging out.
Tearing himself away from the computer, James had risen from the computer desk. He glanced over his shoulder, and his dark brown eyes had flickered toward the bed. Jake had left the room hours ago. What caused James to glance over at his friend's side of the room was beyond him. Perhaps he was going to mutter a goodbye, and inform the blond that he would return in a few hours. It could be out of habit, since the two were close. Nevertheless, James had no one to say goodbye to in the room. Instead, he said nothing, and crossed the room. He picked up his jacket and made sure his wallet was within the right pocket, and assumed he would need it for later if they ever chose to leave Val's room to explore outside of the school.
'I wonder if I need anything else.' He thought, as he picked up his room keys. He stuffed the keys into the jacket pocket before slinging it over his arm.
Deciding he had everything, James left the room, then locked the door behind him. He walked down the long corridor, and glanced around. It was unusually quiet for a Friday. He pondered if the silence should be taken as a sign, or if his friends and other students were out for the night. The thought lingered, until he reached the floor of Val's room. The girl's dormitory was far more presentable than the boy's. At least they had a sense of decoration, and chose more inviting colours. Licking his bottom lip, James approached Val's room. He stopped before the door, then knocked. "It's Prince Charming," James said loudly, a smile now growing on his face. "I'm here to hang out with the princess."

Right, babysitting. I'll keep that in mind.
Yes, master. I'll be right over in a few.

Tumblr media
I’m sure you do.
I still think you should come see me more often. Just not this week. Seeing as I’m babysitting in a way, it wouldn’t be logical to me really.
Are you busy now? If not, get your ass over here now.

I like visual and hands-on homework.

Just do whatever you want. If you want to hang out in our room, go ahead. I don't mind, and I'll speak for Jake and say, "Oh, I'm Jake. For some reason I have a girl's voice right now, but I don't mind."
Wait. When should I come over?
It's kind of awesome when you get kids into your favorite songs.

Not all homework is bad. Most of it is though.
No but if I stayed in there any longer, I might as well have moved in. That wouldn’t have been fair to you guys. Not ever having time away from me and all this crazy we all know I’m filled with.
I’ll believe that when I see it. Consider this an invitation/request for you to come see me.

You could never have too much fun. It's a lot better than homework that's for sure.
Wait, did Jake and I complain and I can't remember? Having a girl in our room is pretty amazing, so hang around as much as you want. Even if Jake isn't present. Whatever you say, Val. Y'know I'll drop by when you want me to.

I am. Maybe a little too much fun….if that were even possible.
You know where to find me. I don’t see you coming to see me too often. I’ve been living in your’s and Jake’s room. I think it’s time you two start coming to see me.
