Jakob smirked a little, "Yes, a Lawyer…did you need legal services?" he answered, a little confused as to why that was such a big deal. Jakob kept up a sweet smile, nodding in thanks as the woman promised to keep his secret foray into the street private. "Well bad manners will get you no where. Ah, so, it is as beautiful, nice to meet you Lizzie." Jakob could tell his smile and manners were making quite the impression on the young girl, he'd have to keep this up. "So, Lizzie, beautiful, what is it that you do around here? If you don't mind me asking, of course, I'm not trying to pry."

Jakob smiled gently, amused by the child-like innocence that was showing through her normal, tough expression. He took his hand from his lap, reaching up slowly to brush back a piece of stray hair and tuck it behind her ear. "Yes, if you'd like to, that is...because I think you're intelligent and kind and beautiful in a classic way like the old actresses from these movies...and I'd like to get to know you better, if you'd allow me to." He brought his hand back, giving her a soft smile and lied some more. " And because you agreed to watch Casablanca with me, and you talk to me like I'm worth something...besides there's like ten more places I'd love to show you in the city...but again, only if you'd like to." The lawyer felt nothing for the woman, she was much too old for his tastes, and much too cold. And if that wasn't enough, he knew how she felt about Charles Junior and that was enough to turn him off from anyone. The man was a monster, a cold-hearted, ungrateful, demon, devoid of emotion or personality and he'd ruined Jakob's life.

Jakob worried that maybe he was being too obvious, but Ferdi obliged and Jakob's thoughts swirled as he tried to build up a picture of what growing up with his father and brother's would have been like. Ferdi didn't seem to be content with his upbringing as Jakob thought he would have been. It annoyed the lawyer a bit, didn't Ferdi know how lucky he was? Jakob would have given anything to have had a Prince's childhood. "I suppose the grass is always greener, huh? Where would you go?!" he asked, curious about these parties out and about. For a moment Jakob's eyes lit up,thinking that by "all" Ferdi had meant Jakob, that all the brothers could have been together, like it should have been. But his hope faded quickly as he remember that, though Jakob knew they were brothers and was desperate for that bond, Ferdi didn't know and couldn't have meant him. "What do you mean?"
Jakob was shocked by the man's reaction, eyes going wide as he realized he'd offended him. "OH, sorry, sorry! I didn't mean to imply that you'd...." he said, a little defeated, and disappointed that this brother bonding time wasn't going as smoothly as he'd hoped. "Wait...him? Oh...Jackie's a guy?...I'd just assumed...sorry." Jakob didn't exactly approve of two guys being together, his father hadn't, so why should he? But, at the same time, he didn't' really see what it hurt, though he'd never admit that to his father. And after his very odd run in with Edmund, Jakob could hardly judge his younger brother. "Dad...I mean, your father's making you do this?" Jakob wasn't sure why, but he'd just assumed that it was Charles Junior making his younger brother marry the Russian girl. "I'm really sorry Ferdi...if there's anything I can do...please, just let me know...maybe I could...well I have a lot of connections...I could at least maybe make contact with him, just so you know he's alright?"
Tumblr media Tumblr media
"My dad?" Ferdi had mixed feelings about his father, and even more about why Jakob was so interested. Ferdi chalked it up to just trying to make small talk and looked up at the young attorney. "Well, He was always busy when I was a kid. I didn’t see him much. And, the house - well, living in this house wasn’t all it was cracked up to be?" Ferdi didn’t go into the real reasons he hated that house: his smothering mother, Philip constantly trying to run away and get out and the screaming. Ferdi would never forget hearing the cries and screams echoing throughout the house. "Birthday parties? They were never here. We always went out somewhere. Yeah, those were pretty cool, I have to admit. Would have been better if we all could have been there though.”
Ferdi huffed as he slouched back into his chair as Jakob talked more about Jack - not realizing he was only angering the young Prince more. “Don’t you think if I could be with him I would be? I wanted nothing more than to agree when Jack asked me to leave with him, I wanted to leave New York forever! But I can’t! because I’m stuck here having to marry a girl I barely know all because apparently my father doesn’t feel he has enough power!” The heavy breathing was starting, the fast heart beat. He started rocking in the chair, his gaze went down to the table, trying to avoid the pending attack.

Jakob looked up, eyes full of wonder as Ferdi spoke of his father, their father. "Your dad...what's he like? Growing up with him I mean, growing up here... bet he threw you some amazing birthday parties, huh?" He wasn't sure why he chose, of all the things he wanted to know about, birthday parties, but it was the first thing that popped into his mind. His own birthday's had been small affairs, his father never showed up for them, explaining that he couldn't be seen with Jakob and his mother in public, but he would always send a gift. The lawyer shook his head at Ferdi's apology, "No, no you're fine...I don't mind"
Tumblr media
Jakob's eyes narrowed a little, wondering why Ferdi was smirking as he tried to be understanding, was he missing something? "But if she..this Jackie was...if she was the one, the one in a million...wouldn't you rather have her in your life in some form than not at all? I know that paps are all over you and you have to pretend with the wedding and what not..but...but couldn't you go see her? I doubt anyone would bother you, or even know you down there" If it were Jakob, if he'd found someone like that, he'd do anything to make it work, just as he'd do anything to be able to have the relationship with his father that he's always wanted.
Ferdi shrugged, “No one really knows why Charlie does the things he does. There are days I’m not convinced he knows.” Ferdi shook his head, “Nah, I don’t blame you. I know it’s not your fault. It’s not anyone’s. well, that’s not true,” Ferdi said, clenching his fists and fuming. “But what daddy wants, daddy freakin’ gets. No matter who he steps on or destroys in the process.”
Tumblr media
"Roommates, huh? Well, I suppose I’m ‘roommates’ with a lot of people I hardly know. I suppose knowing your name is a giant step up from most of the people who are usually here." Jakob was nice, Ferdi really should give him a chance, but he just wasn’t in the mind set. He was still too stressed out and depressed about everything. "Sorry, I know I’m not great company right now.
Ferdi tried to stifle a laugh as Jakob spoke about the youngest Prince’s recent heart break. He thought it was a woman. Ferdi couldn’t blame him, of course Jakob would think it was a girl. He didn’t know Ferdi from Adam. He shook his head, “No, they’re in the Carribean. I don’t want to get ahold of them. It’s - it’s better this way. it was an all or nothing kind of thing. Jack-Jackie was one in a million. I never felt like that for someone before and I don’t know if I can just be friends anymore.”

Jakob's eyes widened slightly, then glanced side to side, wondering if this red-head was about to run to Charles or call a guard. "I.I am the family's lawyer....." he tried to think of away to talk his way out of the situation, but the couldn't' , and the girl didn't seem that threatening. "No, technically...don't  tell anyone, though, alright?" He flashed a cheeky smile that usually had a decent effect on girls and got him what he wanted. "I'm Jakob, and forgive me for not knowing, but, what's your name? Is it as beautiful as you are?'

"For the, umm, arrangements for you and Cat." he gave the man an apologetic look, "Sorry...I was just doing my job." His face lit up as he made Ferdi laugh, it felt nice to bond with his brother, even if it was over something so weird and morbid, and if it was just a giggle. "Oh, does he make this a habit? I'm not sure if I should be offended or honored he wants me around..all the time...despite the fact that my practice is falling apart with out me.."
"Of course" he started, with a smile, but it faltered slightly at the 'complete stranger' comment. It was true, Ferdi didn't know him, but Jakob had spent his whole life trying to get to know Ferdi, through his father, through tabloid articles and interviews, doing anything to feel connected to the brother he was never allowed to meet. "Well, you know my name, and my profession now, and technically we're like..roommates, I hope you don't see me as a complete stranger for much longer."
Jakob let the book close in front of him, watching Ferdi as he spoke of his lost love, his heart breaking for the man. "Oh, God, Ferdi, I'm so sorry...that's terrible...he left the country?" Jakob knew how it felt, to have decisions made for you, ones that effected your whole life, ones that kept you from someone you loved. "Is there no hope? Do you ever talk to her? Have her address or phone number or something? I mean...I know it'd be hard but...at least you'd still have her in your life in some way..."
Ferdi pulled a face as he looked up at the man, "You were called in for me? Why?" Ferdi wasn't in legal trouble, he barely got into regular trouble. This was just Charles doing something else behind the youngest Prince's back. He giggled at the kidnapped joke on irony, "it wouldn't be the first time," Ferdi muttered.
Ferdi stayed quiet as Jakob spoke, feeling the attorney really was feeling for the dirty blond's pain. "Thank you. I appreciate that -- complete stranger." Ferdi smiled with a slight chuckle, realizing this guy was being more understanding to Ferdi's pain and had only known him 5 minutes, than both his brothers combined about the topic.
"Yeah," Ferdi nodded, looking back down at his books. "I was with someone. For a long time. Well, not officially, but I had known them for years. And this whole thing caused them to leave. Actually left the freaking country. Because they couldn't stand to watch me marry Cat. Not that I could blame them -- but this person meant a lot to me and now there gone because of a choice that was made for me."

Jo really wasn’t one to give into nostalgie, especially around strangers. She typically kept up a front of distant and cool feelings. Charles was the only one who really got to see her, followed closely by Ferdinand. But this, after all the craziness and hardship and pain of the month, this was exactly what she needed. She smiled as Jakob agreed with her that the song was beautiful and she murmured along with a couple bars “You must remember this, a kiss is just a kiss, a sigh is just a sigh…” She could feel eyes on her and she looked at the young man from the corner of her eyes first, turning her head slightly and saw he was looking at her, staring, face soft in the flickering light of the television. She was glad for the darkness that covered up the blush that stained her pale cheeks. “Im sorry, you don’t need to hear my attempts at singing,” She smiled weakly. She reached for the popcorn and felt her fingers brush against his, warm and slightly greasy from the butter. It sent a small thrill through her, her cheeks stained darker and her heart was starting to hammer against her ribs. “Sorry,” She murmured.
Jakob's eyes danced over Jo's face in the dim flickering light, waiting for her to notice, hoping he wasn't coming off as creepy as she started singing softly. He gave her a soft smile as she finally caught a glimpse of him and she stopped, embarrassed. "No no it's fine...its quite...beautiful." he said softly, wanting to reach up and tuck back her hair, but worried that the uninvited touch would be too formal. Instead, he went for the old, "popcorn" trick and their fingers grazed each other. A smug satisfaction came over him as he saw her cheeks blush and could tell from her body language that he was having the desired effect on her. "It's ok" he said quietly, "I don't mind" he added, letting his pinky finger reach out to brush her hand again.
"I was thinking, Jo...maybe sometime, when Charles lets me out of the house eventually...maybe we could go downtown to an actual theater, catch an old movie...maybe go to dinner...I have some in's with some pretty nice places, I could get us a table...I mean...if you'd want to..." He tilted his head down, looking up through his lashes at her, trying to seem far less confident than he was so he didn't come on too strong. In truth, he couldn't care less about old movies, or Jo herself really. But he had a job to do, and if it meant taking the grumpy woman out on a date, he'd do it..for his dad.

"Hey!" Lizzie called out, a slight frown creasing her pale brow as she sped up to catch the familiar looking man. "…Aren’t you a Prince man?" What are you doing out of the house? For Lizzie had never seen this particular man leave during her many visits, and they were many. Jay lived there for a good chunk of the week, not to mention information meetings for Charles and the occasional client in the form of a hitman or informant.

Jakob wasn't sure what to do. He'd been busted mid-esacpe, should he make a run for it? Or just turn around and make up some excuse? Or, maybe it was paparazzi, or just some random stranger… Ultimately, he turned slowly, fixing his face into something more confident than he actually felt. He didn't recognize the woman at all, but he supposed that could only be a good thing. If he hadn't' seen her around the house the last few weeks, then she probably wasn't close with the family. "I am not a Prince if that's what you mean, but how can I help you?"

Jakob relaxed a little feeling the more casual energy from the woman beside him. He gave her a nod and smile as she gushed about the movie starlet on the screen, enjoying how she followed his lead in whispering. "19?! Really? Wow, that's crazy...at nineteen I could barely lie to my parents let alone give a performance like this...jeez." He settled back into the sofa, offering up some of the candies to the older woman.
"OH I know, right? So beautiful." he agreed waiting until the man started playing to make sure, it was in fact a pretty song and he wouldn't' be caught for his inexperience with the movie. He glanced at Jo, letting his eyes linger as a wide smile built up on his face, he held his eyes on her as she grinned at the scene, waiting for her to notice his soft stare. Wanting to seem as if he'd gotten caught staring when she did finally notice.
He saw her make a move for the bowl, and slowly moved his hand the same, so their fingers touched as they gathered the kernels. Just a subtly hint, just some innocent/not so innocent touches to set the mood.

"A law student that needs an attorney? I wonder how often that happens?" Ferdi commented quietly as he watched Jakob look through the books to find the answers he was looking for. He always figured Charles had a team of lawyers, but why was Jakob showing up now? And why was he at the house. "Is there something going on with Charles?" Ferdi looked at the man - who bore a shocking resemblance to the brother in question - with a serious face and more serious tone.
Tumblr media
Ferdi scoffed at the mention of tabloids. “Well, then if you’ve read that shit you must know that I’m just fine and actually, quite ecstatic. I’m getting married, you know?” Ferdi said in the most monotone voice he could come up with. He shook his head, looking back to the materials on the table. “I’m just fine, Jakob”
"Well...probably quite often, really. I mean, you're not a lawyer yet, I'm pretty sure that you would advise yourself against being your own counsel at this stage, yes?" He smiled, still paging through the books in front of them. "Charles? Hm? No, actually...I was called in for you, kind of..." he gave him an apologetic look.
"Yeh, I know, that's what I was initially called here for...then Charles, for some reason, decided I couldn't leave. I think I've been kidnapped." he chuckled. He knew if he tried he could leave, but Charles holding him here was actually working into his plan rather well. He did miss his office and his apartment, even if it was barely furnished and rather dull. He loved this house, it was literally his dream house, but it felt weird being here without his father. "Ferdi...I'm really sorry about the whole...wedding thing...it doesn't seem fair, or even remotely normal considering the time we live in. I'm sure it's really hard to go out and pretend to be happy and excited...I'm sorry, I don't mean to pry, but, I think I over heard that you recently ended a relationship. I just wanted to give you my condolences...I'm sure that makes this whole thing a lot more difficult for you."

Jakob paced the driveway of the Prince mansion, puffing on a cigarette and trying to look casual. He couldn't take it anymore. Being cooped up in the house, not being at the office, feeling cut off from the world and bored out of his mind. He had to go out into the world, no matter what Charles said about him needing to stay in the house. Gradually making his way closer and closer to the front gate he glanced around, and seeing no one, he hopped the short fence and though he wanted to run, he forced his body into a casual walk. A smile grew on his face as he neared the end of the property line and could finally taste freedom. But the smile was short lived, as he heard someone call out behind him and he froze.

Jakob blushed a little, "Oh no ma'am. I"m a lawyer, I prefer to use my brain to make a living, but that's very flattering, thank you."
"Alright, Rory." Jakob smiled as she twisted her arm into his. He nodded along with her explanation, "Yes, he does seem to be a busy man, but i'm more than happy to entertain you while you wait. " He doesn't know who this woman is, and it could be a danger to his true purpose here, but he doesn't care. Jakob's been so cut off from the world, so bored here at the mansion, despite the wonder and adventure of getting to know the house and family he was never allowed to see. It feels nice to talk to someone he can just be himself around, someone he doesn't have to change for, or try and impress. And besides, she seems fairly impressed with him with out him trying. "Me?...oh." his face fell a little, the last thing he wanted to be reminded of was that he looked like his evil half-brother. "No..no, it's just my curse...spent my whole life trying to explain to people that I'm Jakob Fitzroy, no relation to the Princes' and watching their faces turn to disappointment." He tried to make it sound light hearted, but it had always been difficult for him to deny his true name and lie to everyone he'd ever met. "So, Rory...what is it like working for the Prince family? I've only just recently found myself in their employ."

Aurora certainly isn’t shy about appraising Jakob, though she still feels slightly unnerved by how similar his facial structure is to Charles’. It’s almost eerie. “Do you model?” She asks, “Because I know several artists that would just love to get their hands on you.”
Tumblr media
"Please, you can call me Rory," Aurora says, giving him a charming smile as she threads her arm through his. "Mm, something like that. Our families have an arrangement, we go way back. I have an appointment with Mr Prince, but his PA telephoned a moment ago to say that he’s running late. Sometimes it feels as though I spend all my time waiting around for this family." Not that she minds- they’re good customers, and thanks to their patronage her own family is swimming in cash. "And what about you? Charles can’t be so paranoid that he’s actually hiring body doubles, can he?"

"None at all. And I still don't see how what Edmund or I do is any of your business if it doesn't take place in the back seat of Charles' car." Jakob answered. The fact that he was a lawyer and the fact that he'd brought Ed a dress weren't related at all…him and Ed however were. And as soon as that thought had dawned on Jakob, he'd lost all interest in the man; his cousin. He shouldn't have been interested in the first place. He'd never even looked at a guy before, let alone danced with one or been that close to one physically. The whole thing flustered him and made him sick. But if he was being honest, it was more the idea that they were related, than that he was a man.
Tumblr media
Suddenly, though Jakob should have seen it coming, Riley was shoving him back against his door. Jakob turned his head away, bracing to get hit. He knew Riley's type. Quick anger, always looking for an opportunity to prove just how much of a man they were, always resorting to physical violence to make up for their lack of intelligence.  "Typical" he muttered as Riley breathed in his face, "You know, for a straight guy you're sure close with Ed, and awful quick to put your hands on me."
Jakob relaxed a little as he was let go, turning to face Riley, their faces a little too close for Jakob's comfort. He straightened his shirt, sidestepping to try and get around Riley. Knowing he'd feel much more confident once he was out of the man's reach.
Tumblr media
"Its the easiest way to get answers." Jakob answered simply. "Now, are you upset that I got Edmund a dress, or that you didn't think of it first? Or maybe you wanted one as well…what are you, size 6?
" He was just taunting the man now, enjoying how Riley would try and hide his discomfort. "But" he said, a little more seriously, "You don't have to be concerned with me or my discretion. I'm not interested in Edmund, or any men for that matter, and I have no intentions of informing anyone of his…habits."

This might be harder than he'd anticipated, Jo didn't seem to appreciate his jokes. At least she took the popcorn and Jakob settled in for what could be a very awkward viewing of Casablanca, unless he could get Jo to relax a little.
A few minutes in, Jakob leaned over just slightly, whispering, "She's gorgeous, isn't she? I mean, she's got that classic kinda beauty, strong and witty...not like what the tabloids think now-a-days as pretty, but..."
He waited a few more scenes, then leaned over again, "Oh, this is the best part!" He had no idea what scene was coming, but he could think on his feet, come up with a lie if he needed to defend his 'favorite scene.'His eyes flickered to Jo's wondering if his talking was annoying her, or having the desired effect of making her feel like she had something in common with him, bonding together over a movie that Jakob only had a vague memory of seeing once when he was much younger, but he wouldn't tell Jo that.

"I never said you were, my jump to conclusions." Riley rebuffed, crossing his arms and flickering his gaze away with a huff. While the thought had crossed his mind, it irked him how much the man was just assuming. It was the know-it-all type that he had to deal with all the time in highschool and he was more than done with that shit.
At the term of address Jakob used, the driver snorted, shaking his head in sheer amusement. He’d not been called Mr. anything in years. “It’s just Riley, I’m not some eighty year old man and I’m not a ‘stand up gentlemen’ I’m just not a thief is all.” He took a few steps closer to the man, smirking with a raised brow. “You may not be a Prince but you talk like them, a proper refined type of fella.”
He was slipping into old habit, horned over time from years of pretending to be a jock and one of the lands. The next words he heard made him freeze for a moment though, thoughts flickering to Ed before he let out a laugh. “I’m not gay, it was a joke, cool your jets, you’re as jumpy as Bambi.”
"…You wanna know, you gotta give me something in return."
Maybe it had been a cocky thing to say, but the man before him was clearly hiding his sexuality whether he wanted to admit it or not. Jakob hadn’t meant anything by his quote other than to encourage the man not to hide. Jakob had hidden who he was his entire life, he knew how it could eat away at you. The anger, however, rolled in waves off Riley and Jakob shrunk back a little, his mouth falling open as Riley spilled Jakob and Ed’s secret. He wanted to lurch at him and throw a hand over his mouth, tackle him out of the hallway and get him to shut up about it. But as good of shape as Jakob was in, he knew that he’d probably get shoved to the ground before making any progress. There was no denying the accusations, not with the way Jakob’s face still showed his complete shock and the blush that adorned his cheeks. How could this driver know? He was pretty sure Ed wasn’t in the habit of sharing his cross dressing with just anyone…so did that mean that Ed and Riley were that good of friends, or maybe something more? Had Ed told Riley how Jakob had freaked out? Had Jakob let on too much? Did Ed somehow figure out who he was? He couldn’t process any of it, and chose to keep his mouth closed, only inviting the man into his room.
Tumblr media
Once he had a shirt on, he closed the door and stood in front of it before jerking his head to get the man to look away while he pulled on a pair of sweats from the floor. Clothed, he felt a little more in control. He knew he wouldn’t stand a chance in a physical fight, but mentally, he knew he could run this man over. He considered the man’s demands, trying to make his face calm and smooth. “I”m not playing any game Mr. De Luca. I am here because I am Charles lawyer, that is all.” he repeated, words fading to the back ground as Riley continued. “OH…jealous are we? I thought you were straight? You know, just because he wears girls clothes doesn’t make him a girl.” It was a weird thing to say, seeing Jakob had been telling himself over and over the exact opposite to make himself feel less weird about the whole thing. “But, seeing that I don’t exactly appreciate the fact that you know my private affairs, let me ask you this…how exactly did you come across this information? I have to assume straight from Edmund as he doesn’t seem the type to spread this type of thing around. Which means you two must be close…lovers?”

"Sorry. It's just..people look at me and assume" Jakob scratched the back of his head, shrugging of the other man's huff.
Jakob pulled a face, "Well sorry for trying to be polite. You shouldn't put yourself down to strangers Riley, it's not becoming of a man like yourself. You seem an alright guy, got a good job, look decent, clearly you are trustworthy or you wouldn't be in this house..." Jakob stepped back a step as the man drew closer, after Charles, Jakob had a hard time trusting anyone that insisted on getting that close to him. He wasn't a fighter. "I"m a lawyer, it's sort of required of me. I don't mean to seem pretentious, just using words as they should be used. I doubt you would complain if Poe. or Theroux were standing here."
Tumblr media
Jakob cocked an eyebrow, looking at the man who was clearly staring at him only moments ago, "You know what they say; ' it is necessary sometimes to lie to others, it is always despicable to lie to oneself.'..But claim whatever you want, doesn't effect me one way or another."
Jakob gnawed on his lip a little, negotiations were not new to him, but rarely did they have such personal stakes for him.  He suddenly had a better insight to his clients feelings and wondered how many times he'd been fairly insensitive about negotiating the terms of another man's life. "What is it that you would like Riley?" he asked, trying to seem confident, though it was a little difficult standing in just a towel in the hallway. "Uh, before you say, would you mind if we just stepped into my room? I feel a little exposed out here..." Without waiting he slipped past Riley and into the doorway of his bed room, tucking his towel securely before pulling on a thin cotton t-shirt. "Well?"

Jakob nodded, but Laela didn't seem quite as positive about having her parents around as she should have. But maybe that was just because it was a topic so close to Jakob's heart that no amount of enthusiasm would be enough. "yeah. It sucked. But at least he was a good dad, maybe no around enough, but I don't blame him. It wasn't his fault. But when he was there he would tell me stories and let me curl up on his lap when I was little." A wistful smile grew on his lips at the memories.
"Come here, let me tell you a story John"." Is it a happy one Papa?"" What do I always tell you, John? There are no happy stories in life. " "I know papa...but sometimes there are happy endings to sad ones...like I'm sad now because I can't see you all the time, but one day I'll come live with you in your big big house and that will be our happy ending." "Yes, my son...one day."
Jakob raised an eyebrow, she hadn't seemed like the reading type to him. More of a 'paint-her-nails-8-times-a-day' type. "Oh? What do you like to read? What's your favorite book? And what do you write? Stories? I'd like to read one"
"Oh, I don't know...i like to jog, takes my mind off things...read as well. Sometimes I'd sneak down to the driving range on my lunch break, hit a few balls, but never really much of an actual golfer, just feels good to hit something sometimes." He gave a shrug, and finished the rest of his coffee, setting it down with satisfaction.
Tumblr media
"So how is being engaged to Charles? It seems the man is a little...hm, what's the right word...distant, possibly? I know I'm not supposed to know, but i know your marriage is not a "traditional" one...more like Ferdinand and Caterina's...that must be very difficult."
