Notes: part of my Love and Other Fairytales Verse, taking place about 45 years before the main story

No-fault divorce laws were not passed in Ohio until 1974, four years after the events of the story.

Some notes on the timeline of midwifery as a practice in the united states:

May does not, at the time of the story, have an actual nurse-midwife degree, and Trudi never did. At the time of the story, these things were not required. By the 1960s, 97% of all births in the US happened in hospitals, and the practice of midwifery was confined mostly to black and poor white communities who did not have access to such. It was difficult, impractical, and largely unpopular to try and regulate midwives, and they had become so unpopular in favor of hospitals and anesthetics, there was little drive to try.

However, midwifery saw a resurgence in the late 60s-to mid-80s, largely as a result of the woman’s movement; feminists maintained that childbirth was natural, and hospitalization and supervision by a physician were not required.

As time went on, more licensed medical professionals pushed for regulations and the end of unlicensed midwifery, and these efforts began to pass in the mid-80s, requiring midwives to be overseen by a physician, and then fully regulating the practice by the mid-90s. At that point, May went to school and got a license to practice on her own, so she does have a nurse-midwife degree in the main storyline, but not at this point in the timeline.

Hey everyone I have something very important to ask

I know I have a lot of queer people following me, and probably a good amount of trans people too because of that

My younger sibling has recently come out to our family as trans (I've known for a while) and wants a binder, but as a cis girl I don't actually know that much about them

Does anyone know any good uk based websites we can buy binders from? Like anywhere that's safe? I want to make sure they don't get hurt by doing this wrong/unsafely

i love it when artists put their own spin on canon appearances/aspects of character whether its making them fat or adding features like freckles, spots or scars, or if its projecting their ethnicity onto their design. i think it is so so beautiful and i love seeing fragments of peoples hearts within their favourite characters. i think people who disagree should disintergrate btw

honestly if ur a new user from twitter. u don’t HAVE to have a whole blog set up immediately for people to not block you. like just change ur icon to a cartoon character or something and make a post that says like. “hey i’m new i’m just lurking here for a bit to get my bearings before i start posting/reblogging” and ur fine just like, make it clear you’re not a bot yk

though i do reccomend starting to reblog things eventually, it’s a good way to keep all the stuff you like saved in one place so you can look back on it later, especially if you tag stuff. while the search function isn’t perfect, tagging stuff you post/reblog makes it easier to find. a bit more organised than the bookmark feature on twitter at least :p
