i believe you can always get back to yourself. you can always soften into being again. no matter how long you might be stuck in a pattern of unhappiness, of being jaded, of feeling guarded from the world in some way. there is always a path back. give yourself a chance to find it.
realized i never sent u any of these for the wip ones can i see some... little mermaid au?
YESSS you can!
this is a 4? 5? chapter retelling of the little mermaid featuring Te'ijal as the mermaid and Galahad as the captain of the guard of the beach kingdom she daydreams about exploring as a human. It takes some hearty inspiration from Rhenegade, so while te'ijalahad is the A plot, Rhen and John have the B plot.
it's also very aromantic and features the most self-aware Galahad I have written or ever will write
At one point when they were all gathered together, Rhen laid down on a bench and idly described the supposed risks of sirens. “They say they have the most gorgeous voices, and they lure men down to their deaths with their songs of seduction.”
Peter laughed, eyes glancing across the immediate group. “At least there’s nobody in present company the promise of love with a mermaid would work on. As far as concerns about sirens go, we may be one of the better crews on the mainland.”
“I’m not sure that’s entirely true,” said Rhen. “John isn’t wholly immune to the charms of a beautiful woman.”
“No, just settling down with one.”
John punched Peter lightly in the arm. “You may not be so immune yourself. For all you know, the fish men have started taking cues.”
“Excuse you, I am very happy with my husband and I am not going to start flinging myself off deck for every handsome fish man with a half-decent singing voice–”
Rhen’s giggles reentered the fray before she did. “John, if my memory with a certain someone is sound, doesn’t that mean you’re just two times the liability?”
“Oh, sure, rub it in, why don’t you, little miss safe-from-sirens-twice-over.”
At this point, Galahad had heard more than well enough. “It scarcely matters who is safe how many times. Sirens are an old wives’ tale and you should all know it.”
“Easy for you to say,” John said.
“Quite.”
I would love to know about the Te'ijal weather fic!
this is my oldest unfinished fic concept, I think - I came up with it in 2015, and keep scrapping and restarting drafts. The idea is it's a 3-parter, where each chapter explores Te'ijal's relationship with a different party member based on her experiencing a new weather phenomena with them for the first time!
I was originally going to make it canonverse, but somewhere along those drafts it became a Rhenegade fic, because I think Rhen and Te'ijal's relationship in Rhenegade is fascinating and tense in a way that I wanted to dig into.
Excerpt:
Elini’s shoe is gentle, but decidedly pressing into Te’ijal’s side. “Vampress,” she says, “wake.”
Te’ijal rises from the floor, hardly seeing another option. Elini steps back as she does, almost bouncing. The glint in her makes her smile seem calculated. Te’ijal can tell she’s planning something. She wants in. “What’s going on?”
Elini hands her her sunblock. “Apply this and then follow me.”
Te’ijal raises an eyebrow. The marina inn they stand in features a long row of beds currently filled with the rest of their numbers. Elini is making no move to wake any of them. “Are we deserting?” She hopes they’re not. She’s only just joined these humans, and she’d rather not leave so soon. They charm her.
Elini laughs softly. “No. We’ll be back in an hour. Get ready.”
At that, Te’ijal sees no point to protest. She changes from her nightwear to her traveling garb quickly, applying her sunscreen in between the steps. She reaches for her bag where she keeps her hair product, but Elini raises a hand and speaks before she can grab it.
“I told you, vampress,” she says softly, “we will return. Let us make haste. I’d hate to be late.”
oh my gosh i'm going back to answer the rest of these & realizing i forgot the part where i'm supposed to share EXCERPTS lol
here's one from magpie (actually, the beginning):
Vampires don't get married. The more cynical among them (or realistic, depending on who you ask), say it's foolish - only mortals, with their sub-century lifespans, have the gall to bind themselves to someone for their entire existence. The more romantic argue that it's dismissive to commit to your partner once and expect it to sustain your relationship indefinitely.
So instead, they hold grand parties every so often – ten years, fifty years, centennials. Te’ijal has heard stories about couples lasting a millennia, but she’d never seen it herself. They reaffirm their love in front of their friends and gladly take an excuse to dress up and dance. She likes visiting, likes seeing the outfits and putting on her best. Parties are easy – she can laugh and tease and play up her own eccentricities and charm a whole room.
But she can’t stop thinking that she wants a wedding.
and here's one from i want all that is not mine:
It isn’t quite, so Ingrid narrows her eyes, frustrated. “Marriage, actually. You can tell me, you know, one witch to another. I already have a marriage curse, of course, but just between the two of us it doesn’t do everything it ought to, so I’m in the market for–”
“I am not a witch, and you cannot replicate what I have done to
Galahad.” She says it definitive and dry.
Ingrid pushes anyways. “Try me.”
"magpie" and "i want all that is not mine" intrigues me the best among your wip titles <3 and also all your wip titles are better than some of mine
aaaa thank you omg!!! (also that's very flattering but i'm sure you have some excellent ones too, mine tend to just be song lyrics jksdflsd)
magpie is a WIP te'ijal character study that is very near and dear to my heart <3 i headcanon her as aromantic & autistic, and with those things overlapping in how they influence her (plus vampirism), and magpie is about all of that! it's based off ishti referring to how te'ijal is into people as "magpie attraction"
i want all that is not mine is an aveyond 4 fic about te'ijal(&galahad) and ingrid(&boyle)! te'ijal and ingrid have a scene together that i like to interpret in a very specific way, so this fic is me exploring that more explicitly
