It wasn’t often you saw the great ship, Thew Jewel of Antigone, mack port in Nassau. He’s only seen in once other time and never this close. It was the ship of legends that anyone who sailed the waters knew. Yeah he admired and it awe was obvious to anyone. Spotted, he took a moment to take in the great ship one more time before looking at the other who questioned his presence there. “I’ve never seen the Antigone this close before. Admirer of the vessel.”
Tumblr media
Ivan raised an eyebrow at the man. He hadn't been expected a favourable review from someone in a *pirate port. "Hmm, it is a lovely sight," he agreed, glancing at the man and heaving a dramatic sigh. "But here I was hoping that you'd be admiring little ole me. Aren't I pretty enough to pay attention to?"

WHO: Open WHERE: The Tavern WHEN: Afternoon
Clem gave a sigh, shrugging as she looked down at the person she’d just knocked unconscious slumped on the floor. “I guess I made a bad call, but I have no idea what I could have done differently.”
Tumblr media
Ivan watched the altercation with his hands crossed over his chest. He'd probably have walked away if he hadn't recognised the blonde hair of Clementine. He had half a mind to wait and see if she at least got a black eye for her efforts.
"Well, you probably could have used your words instead of throwing the first punch," Ivan mused, raising an eyebrow at the woman. He was not her biggest fan. Too aggressive for his tastes. "Or maybe not have engaged them at all. They're clearly highly intoxicated."

WHO: Open WHERE: The Docks WHEN: Late Morning
Ivan hated hauling things to and from the ship, but well, someone had to do it. Plus, it was an excuse to *not to deal with some of the recruitment proceedings. Ivan wasn't a fan of recruiting in a pirate port. But they were desperate, he knew.
So instead, Ivan would haul crates and supplies. It was better that way. He stopped after getting back to the supplies and wiped at his brow when he felt like he was being watched. Looking around, Ivan found the source and narrowed his eyes slightly. "Like what you see? Or do you want a handout?" he asked, raising an eyebrow.

“I’m sorry–” Niamh glanced down at the parchement unsure of what she was supposed to be looking at. “Are you sure this is meant for me? I– I don’t know what this is.” Having been self taught, she would never admit that when it came to reading her knowledge was only that of which she appeared familiar with. Yes, she could read words but that didn’t always mean she had a clear understanding of what things meant.
Tumblr media
Ivan smirked slightly at the young woman, waving a hand at her. "Of course it's for you," he said, gesturing at the top line of the letter. "My dear, it's addressed to the Stowaway Aboard the Jewel of Antigone. That's you, is it not?" He'd known about the stowaway for a while, but she wasn't hurting much, so he hadn't said anything. "Of course, if I'm horribly mistaken, then there's a different little Irish lady that I need to find to give this letter to."

Jacob laughed at the male, shaking his head in amusement. “If only you were so lucky, maybe next time.” He joked with a smirk tugging at his lips. “Ahh, I see, well, let’s see how we get?” The male suggested with a crooked smile. “So you’re from the Jewel of Antigone.” It was more of a statement than a question. The next part was the bit that caught Jacob’s attention. A ship with no Captain and of all ships – The Jewel of Antigone. This would undoubtedly be an interesting situation to watch unfold. Jacob couldn’t help but wonder if it would end up in violence. He wondered whether any of the crew members were prowling around Nassau on the hunt. “Interesting.” He remarked with a thoughtful look.
Tumblr media
Ivan shrugged. He wasn't about to verbalise which ship he came from. Unless… "I've been sailing on the Warley since I was eighteen," he said with a nod. The Warley had been what the Jewel used to be called. Ivan wasn't the biggest fan of the new name, and he thought the former captain was a bit too zealous in her mission. Ivan would have preferred more precise strikes.

Jacob snorted in amusement at the male. He was funny he’d give him that, but he didn’t recognise the lad, making him just as curious as nervous, which was one of the reasons he’d told the man to come with him. “Something tells me I couldn’t handle being your daddy,” Jacob muttered as he studied him with a cool expression. “I’m sure you’d find the bar stool more comfortable.” He replied, gesturing to the barstool next to the seat he’d just sat down on. “So, stranger, may I ask what brings you to Nassau? Or perhaps I should ask for your name first?”
Tumblr media
Ivan laughed softly. "Shame," he mused, glancing at the man with a slight smirk. "Daddy's lap sure looks comfortable." But he didn't push it. Instead, he took the empty seat next to the man and ordered himself another drink.
"You may ask," Ivan allowed, glancing sideways at the man before bringing his drink to his lips. "Might not tell you without a little, ah, quid pro quo, if you catch the meaning." He paused, wondering if his odd fascination with Latin texts would be too much for the other man. "Ivan da Costa is my name, and I'm in port for... personal reasons, so to speak. I sail. My captain passed somewhat recently. And there's really no other on the ship capable of functioning as a captain, at least, not without an appropriate vote. So we're here until we hold the said vote."

WHO    :    open WHERE    :   the tavern WHEN    :    late afternoon Quiet in his seat, Jacob continued to watch the scene between the two in front of him unfold as he nursed his drink. He’d had a busy day and wanted nothing more than to just enjoy a tankard of ale and his own company but it would seem that the two arguing in front of him had another idea in mind. Looking down at what was left in his tankard, he chucked his neck back chugging what was left, leaving a pleasant burning of alcohol in his throat. Taking a stand as he noticed them getting more aggressive with each other, he let out a sigh and began to walk over. “Enough.” He stated, his voice calm yet with a sharpness to it. Jacob looked at them both straight in the eye as he put an arm between them. “If you’re going to behave like children, then I will be your daddy. Now, you go that way and you come sit with me.” The male instructed with a warning look that told them it would be safer not to argue with him.
Tumblr media
Ivan figured they should have hung signs. The tavern should be public domain, not a pirate establishment. Ivan had only wanted a drink when the man next to him started accusing him of pirate hunting. It wasn't inaccurate, but that wasn't what he was here for. Besides, it was his late captain that was the hunter. Ivan had just read some charts.
Ivan was about to throw a punch when an arm appeared between him and the pirate. He raised an eyebrow. "You want to be my daddy?" Ivan asked, unable to help the cheeky grin on his face. "Do I get to come sit on your lap, Daddy?"

HISTORY
TW: Death of Father Ivan was born in Olinda, Brazil, to a Portuguese father and a Brazilian mother. He grew up in a small house that back right up to the ocean, and thus, the sea was always his backyard. Ivan grew loving the sea and her mysteries and the stars and their stories. When he was only six years old, his father's ship sank after a battle with a pirate ship. From there, Ivan became determined to learn to sail to find the pirates that killed his father and avenge the man. Twelve years later, Ivan got the chance. A merchant's vessel came to port in Olinda, and Ivan signed onto the crew, hoping to use the ship as a means to a privateering ship. He sailed on the Warley until pirates besieged it, and Ivan was faced with the dilemma of joining the crew of what he wanted to hunt or die himself. So Ivan surrendered himself to the captain and became that which he hated: a pirate. Ivan sailed on the same ship, as the captain took it over, renamed it. The newly named Jewel of Antigone needed a navigator, and Ivan filled that role. He uses the position to try to track down the pirates responsible for his father's death, but he's starting to lose hope that he could personally enact that vengeance.
