in light of recent events, i think i should explain my gut reaction to the episode a little better
i’m not shaming anyone for being scared
it’s just not what i was expecting, based on the buildup, and i wrote before i thought about my tone
i personally adore bats and don’t find them the least bit frightening, which led to the confusion
ryan’s a brave man, much braver than a fair few of us
he faces his fear for entertainment, for us, and is willing to be vulnerable in the spotlight, fully admitting when he’s been so shaken as to bow out or cry
he is not afraid to be scared
i understand being terrified to tears of being in a space populated by something you hate (i’ve lived in spider-infested rooms for years)
so though i may not entirely get why it was so terrifying for him (and shane), i admire the courage and dedication

So there’s this chinese phrase: 那些年 which roughly translate to “Those Years” - which I think this picture captures. The phrase encapsulates the idea of a memorable period of time in your life which you will look back on and remember. They are the photos that capture an unplanned, and almost intimate snapshot of your life. You might not be doing anything particularly memorable in the picture - you could just be hanging out with your best friend on a couch, your hair’s messy, your posture’s probably terrible and he’s not even looking at the camera - but it is also kinda beautiful in its own understated way.
I had so much fun drawing that. Doing something digtial after inktober is great. I’m planing on slightly animating that, but unfortunately open toonz isn’t working anymore
