SHEN QUANRUI ricky stared at you from across the hall, laughing and joking around with your new friendgroup. he scoffed in annoyance; he was jealous and his ego was bruised. he gritted his teeth as he watched another boy putting his arm around your shoulder and telling you something that was apparently funny, considering the way you started giggling as soon as his words hit your ear.

ricky only rejected you because he enjoyed the attention he received from others too much- girls and boys were sticking around him at all times, not even trying to hide their romantic interest in him. officially dating someone would've meant that he couldn't tolerate blunt flirting anymore, and he did not want that.

after turning your confession down you started to pull away from him, surrounding yourself with different people, not paying attention to him and not even sparing him a single glance whenever your paths crossed. it helped him realize that he'd rather have you than any of his admirers… but considering the attitude he showed you when rejecting you, you surely wouldn't give him a second chance. it pissed him off.

KIM GYUVIN it was pretty much a dilemma in his case. he didn't think he would ever find himself in some lame kdrama-fit situation like that, but there he was. ricky, y/n and gyuvin- best friends since day one and attached by the hip. but the second romantic feelings got involved everything got messed up- and the friendgroup that once was, wasn't anymore.

gyuvin only rejected you because he knew that ricky was in love with you. while gyuvin too harbored feelings for you, he couldn't bring himself to break his other best friends heart like that. "feelings like that destroy our friendship," is what he said to you, in hopes that you'd understand and maybe just suppress your feelings in order to protect your platonic relationship.

feelings like that did destroy the friendship. after gyuvin rejected you, you reached out to ricky for comfort- and after that it was simply not the same anymore. gyuvin really regretted it. he did not know what he should've done differently in order to save your friendship, but he wish he did whatever it was instead. he not only missed you as his crush, he even more missed you, and ricky too, as his best friends.

PARK GUNWOOK gunwook didn't know much about love. all his life he mostly focused on school and platonic relationships, not really caring about romance. he worked hard to make his always busy parents proud and not cause them trouble and stress; that's why he was constantly at the top of his class, the class president with the perfect record.

you changed that as you transferred schools to his. you showed him that grades weren't everything in life and made him want to discover what exactly romance is; even though it kind of freaked him out. the act of showing your true and vulnerable self to others, that is. that's why he first rejected you when you came forward and told him about your feelings for him, he asked you to please give him time and space to think and collect his thoughts.

you understood and gave him the space he needed. but once gunwook was given the space he thought he needed, he realized how much more he needed you. he only took 2 days to think before he went ahead and confessed to you this time. do you accept?

HAN YUJIN you used to be best friends, known for constantly goofing around with each other. feelings changed, everything changed. yujin had to move away. it wasn't planned for a long time, it was a rushed decision his parents made one tuesday evening, the moving already happening next week. yujin did not know how to tell you about it and he always backed out last second when he was about to; driving you crazy in the process, making you think he was trynna confess to you but ultimately being too shy, which wouldn't be off-brand for him.

so you took matters into your own hands and finally confessing to him, one day before he was supposed to move away. that poor boy was already overwhelmed enough with trying to come up with a way to tell you the truth, he did not need that extra load! thousands of thoughts were rushing through his mind, not a single one sticking for more than a few seconds. and before he could properly process it, the word "no" just slipped past his lips, lingering in between you, causing a deafening silence.

everything went so fast. before he knew it, yujin was on his way to his new home, leaving you and conversations he should have had but didn't, behind. it's not like he didn't feel same way. he liked you, a lot. but it was for the better. he was overwhelmed and panicked. that's what he tells himself at least, to calm his nerves down. he left without saying anything to you and he knows a heart to heart talk is long overdue; but he also knows that he fucked up, real bad.

He definitely has a private server in arsenal and would 1v1 with his friends (other zb1 members) and he always wins against them

However when 1v1ing YOU, he always lets you win

He would also offer to play horror games with you to try to make fun of you when you’re scared

Plan backfired, he’s the one screaming. Especially if you play the mimic.

Gyuvin would make you carry him and he would just follow you around

He would scream at every little thing and would probably be scared of his own shadow

At the first jumpscare he got he probably would alt + f4 immediately

Stopped playing for awhile until he sucked it up and asked you again. You doubted him at first like “Are you sure 🤨” he then follows it up by saying “I won’t scream or leave this time I promise” (spoiler: he did scream but he didn’t leave)

I feel like gyuvin would have one of those troll avatars

Gunwook wouldn’t play much but when he does I think he would play obby games

He’s good at them definitely

kim jiwoong he's not as open about being a zb1 as the other boys. it's more like his secret identity. kim jiwoong at day, zb1 at night, he's basically like batman. he writes a lot of fanfictions but nobody knows about it, he uses a different name on the internet. he's part of the zb1 discord and gets roasted for his age regularly. he likes buying the zumblr albums and loves listening to their music, especially when he's jogging or cleaning his apartment. he's waiting for the day that one of members acts in a kdrama. his bias is elif.

zhang hao he's always uploading covers of zumblr songs. if singing covers, dance covers or violin covers doesn't matter. he uploads them and is fairly popular in the fandom. listens to every song the second a new album drops and is also big on streaming. he's also really into 'drama' surrounding zumblr. he still laughs about the way mnet tried evil editing "RAWRR turkish alpha wolf" elif into making it seem like she eats kids because they didn't want a furry in the line up. elif still made it as P04. hao can't decide for a bias.

sung hanbin he's the most well known zb1. he went viral for 'hating' on zumblr member venom (everybody knows he's utterly in love with her). he also writes fanfictions but he's more open about it. probably cries every night thinking about zumblrs future disbandment. he works in a coffeeshop and makes sure to regularly play zumblr songs in order to promote them further. he has like hundreds of fellow zb1 friends and moots online. he claims that he biases somebody else, but everybody knows that his bias is venom.

seok matthew he's the sweetest fan for real. he streams and votes a lot, he would feel guilty if not. he likes buying the albums and always makes sure to preorder them so he could receive extra benefits. he always has a photocard in his phone case and changes it regularly. he cried while watching the dp999 finale, even though his pick made it. he likes to upload funny videos about zumblr onto youtube (zumblr out of context eg) and has a big following too. his zumblr lightstick is his most beloved possession. his bias is chou, obviously.

kim taerae he's literally the most delulu out of all of them. he might not seem like it, but he definitely is. while hanbin and jiwoong are the ones writing the fanfictions, he's the one who's constantly reading them. he loves covering zumblr songs and uploading his singing onto youtube and tiktok. taerae rewatches delulu planet 999 often and is constantly sad about all the eliminated trainees. he really likes to trade his photocards for no specific reason. he's incredibly bad at voting and streaming though. he is an ot9.

shen ricky he's the kinda stan that owns EVERYTHING. he rich fr. albums? owns every single version of every album. seasons greeting? he has it. merch? best believe he buys every piece possible. concert tickets? he's spoiling himself with vip tickets. he has won multiple phone calls too and every other broke stan is incredibly jealous of him. he's talked to every member so far and literally went viral on multiple platforms for his obsession with zumblr because he posted about it. his bias is irene, as she's just as rich as him.

kim gyuvin he only speaks in zumblr references and has annoyed friends into becoming zb1s too. he runs a meme page / very popular fan page for zumblr. every other zb1 knows him. zumblr has even mentioned him in lives before. he buys every album (but only one version. he's kinda broke.) and decorates his room with some fan articles. he likes learning the dances. he goes to karaoke bars regularly and always puts zumblr songs on, his favorite being 'never', the solo song from chou. gyuvin changes his bias like every single day.

park gunwook he's the friend gyuvin annoyed into becoming a zb1. he started watching delulu planet 999 when it was already too late and almost ending and he really regretted not tuning in earlier. he's a big zb1 now even though his #1 pick (tea) didn't make it. but he's still a bit more chill compared to some other members. he doesn't buy albums because he wants to save up to go to one of their concerts instead. he streams zumblrs music kind of unintentionally as it's always playing on loop while he's his doing homework. he doesn't bias anyone in the group. (missing tea hours)

han yujin he watches all youtube videos about them while he's doing his homework. he once scribbled the zumblr logo on a test sheet and got an extra point because the teacher is also a zb1 (biased). he cries often because the maknae- eris- is younger than him. he likes to do dancing covers and uploads them on tiktok. he always saves up money in order to buy some albums or merch. he reads zumblr fluff whenever he's sad. has won a phone call once and made the member 'fall in love' with him as he's just too cute. his bias is eris.

bonus:

terazono keita really doesn't give a fuck about zumblr. he only cares about misa who sadly didn't make the cut and only placed P12 in the dp999 finals.

Despite not being one to party, you couldn't turn down the invitation after Jiwoong had let you know Keita would be there. So far you'd done your best to avoid the infamous Jackson Wang parties, but it had been two grueling months of no Keita and there was nothing lined up in the near future for you to bump into him either. So Jackson Wang's house it was.

The anticipation of seeing Keita was enough for you to forget about any nerves while getting ready with Jiwoong. But once you rolled up to the mansion Jackson called a house, you came back to reality. You were about to venture into a lawless place, or so you'd been warned.

Before you even got out of your seat, Matthew and Zhang Hao yelled out for your best friend.

"We recognized your car!" Matthew exclaimed as he ran up to hug Jiwoong.

"You're late, we already did the first hit" You looked at Jiwoong with an eyebrow raised to ask "hit of what?"

"Ricky got ahold of some DMT..." Jiwoong explained.

"There's not enough for you" Matthew said quickly. He'd always been curt with you for some reason. It didn't sting anymore, as it had when you'd first met him. You'd been disappointed that his sunshine smile for some reason was never directed at you, instead his expression whenever he looked at you was more akin to a thunderous storm.

"Sorry, you aren't interested in that stuff anyway, right?" Jiwoong said as Zhang Hao pulled him away from you by the wrist. He knew you were worried about the party, and it annoyed you that he would leave you stranded like that. You considered going home, but the desire to see Keita was stronger than your social anxiety. You walked into the lion's den.

It was both what you expected and completely different. It was still early in the evening, but the house was already in shambles. In one corner of the gigantic living room you saw people doing a wheelbarrow competition; moving closer you recognized Sana as she zoomed towards the beer cup on her hands while Bangchan held her feet up, beating the other team by a landslide.

There were couples making out all over the couches; Jennie and Taehyung being one of them, Wang Zi Hao and Haruto another. You anxiously looked for Keita, but thankfully he wasn't in any of the pairs neck deep in each others throats.

"Enjoying the view? Didn't take you for a voyeur" You turned around. Jay Park, the one guy you wanted to avoid, was grinning at you. You had dinner with him, Keita, pH-1, and a couple of others last month, and he'd kept pouring you drinks you couldn't turn down due to your age gap while sitting uncomfortably close to you. You'd been saved when Keita asked Jay Park to join him for a karaoke duet. But Keita wasn't around to save you now.

"Oh, I was just- taking in the scene."

"First time at a Jackson Wang party?"

"Yeah"

"Don't worry, I'll take care of you" He said. I'd rather you didn't, you thought.

"Let's get some alcohol in you- or? Would you prefer other types of personal enrichment?" He gestured to the tables you now noticed held mountains of white powder.

"I'm good with alcohol, thanks" He slid an arm around your lower back. Your body tensed up. You had to get away from him. Should you shove him or would it be better to simply cuss him out? Was this inappropriate enough to warrant any of that? You couldn't make up your mind all the way over to the bar area. He let go off you of his own volition to get the attention of the bartender.

"And you'll have?" he asked you. At least he cared about your drinking preferences, but it'd be even more nice if he cared about your personal boundaries.

"Vodka soda, neat" You wondered how you could get away from him. Realizing how big the place was, you became fearful you'd end up spending the entire evening staving off Jay Park's advances without speaking to Keita even once.

You got your drinks and he guided you yet again, hand right back to the small of your back. He took you to the patio behind the house. It was larger than your entire apartment. It was dark out and the fairy lights barely helped. You tried to see if any of the shorter silhouettes belonged to a man. Finally you saw a small but wide figure.

"I saw someone I know, I'm just gonna go say hi" You said and slid out of Jay's grasp. You didn't give him a chance to answer. You quickly stalked over to who you believed to be Keita.

Standing right behind the short man, you suddenly grew uncertain. But Jay might still be watching, so you had no other choice but to introduce yourself to whoever it was. You walked the final step to get next to the person that hopefully was Keita.

It wasn't. Instead, the guy who hated you the most was looking at you with his usual disgruntled expression.

"Oh, hi Matthew" you said. He nodded towards you. Not even a hello?

You looked around for Jiwoong, but to your disappointment, Matthew was talking with people you didn't know, only knew of; Somi, Dayeon and Hanbin.

"I can't believe he dared to show his face here" Somi said. Uh oh, they were having what seemed to be a private conversation. You looked behind your shoulder, and saw Jay Park staring at you from the place you left him. You'd have to stay.

"Does he even have any friends here? Why was Ciipher even invited" Hanbin said. Oh, so they were talking about Won. You had only met him twice but he'd been a sweetheart. Knowing how much Keita liked his maknae, their shit talking left a bad taste in your mouth.

"Sorry, I invited Keita who probably invited his group members... I thought he'd know better than to bring Won though" Matthew said.

"It's fine, I don't even care about him anymore. I don't wanna date a broke nobody anyway, his group is about to disband and he's gonna be too old to ever make it" Dayeon said and the others laughed.

"Isn't Kep1er disbanding soon too? And you're the same age as him" You instantly regretted saying anything. The conversation stilled and they all looked at you.

"I'm sorry, who are you?" Somi asked. You wish the earth would swallow you whole.

"I'm just- I'm gonna, I'll go"

"Yeah, you do that" Somi said. There was nothing to do than return to Jay Park.

To your delight, he was gone when you went back to where you'd stood. To your horror, this meant you were all alone.

After getting another drink at the patio bar, you went to the railing of the balcony and lit up a cigarette. The ocean below was calm in the blackness of night.

You never should have come. Was Keita even at the party? Although if Won was, Keita surely must be too. You hadn't seen Won though. You took one last look around the groups of people, but there was still no sign of Keita anywhere. Tears began forming in your eyes.

"Wow, am I really gonna cry while smoking alone at a party?", you muttered to yourself. How pathetic. You took a deep breath and decided to finally throw in the blanket and go home.

You kept looking around as you made your way back down the stairs and into the main living room. Mostly to avoid Jay Park, but also partly to make one final effort to find Keita. Although you weren't sure if you wanted to see him in the state you were in.

Chris Brown was blasting through the speakers. The white mountains on the tables had shrunk into rocks, but were in the process of being refilled by the host himself. Jungkook and Jimin seemed set on making Jackson work all night like Sisyphus though, faces whiter than the snow app could make them.

"Y/N!" Your heart skipped a beat. You'd know that voice anywhere. You turned around.

"Hi Keita," you said. He looked stunning. Maybe even more so than usual. His hair was dyed dark blue, which gave him a completely different aura from the gray hair he'd had last you met him. It paired well with the midnight blue blazer he wore over a black print screen T-shirt. He was also wearing glasses you knew he didn't need, his vision was good, but god if it didn't make him see better it sure made him look fine as hell.

But you were in such a sour mood you got even more nervous running into the only person you wanted to see - the last thing you wanted to do was cry in front of Keita.

"You good?" He asked. So he could tell. You cursed your inability to hide your emotions.

"I am, yeah. I was going to head home now though"

"Aww, but I finally found you" He pouted.

"You were looking for me?" You wondered if your heart was beating faster than Jungkook's, who kept inhaling cocaine in the corner of your eye.

"Uhm, I mean-"

"Keita hyunggg~" You just couldn't win tonight. Matthew appeared seemingly out of nowhere and embraced Keita from the back.

"Hey Matthew!" Keita grabbed Matthew's hand around him. It looked to you as if Keita's smile at his friend didn't reach his eyes, but maybe you were misunderstanding something. You knew Keita was very close to Matthew. Had he heard about the Won slander earlier? You wondered if you should tell him, but that might make you look bad in the eyes of Keita. He might even think you were making stuff up about Matthew since the two of them were a lot closer than you were.

"Whatchya doing~" Matthew said without letting go of Keita. Your eyes met and he smiled, the first time Matthew had smiled at you, but it didn't look like his sunshine smile at all. Was he taunting you? Oh my god, he was. He knew exactly how uncomfortable he made you.

"I'll be on my way then" you said. Keita stepped towards you quickly, making Matthew trip over his feet and finally let go.

"Do you wanna have one drink before you go? My treat" Keita said, ignoring Matthew complaining in the background.

"It's an open bar, what do you mean your treat-" You said. Keita smiled and you melted immediately.

"OK, yeah, one drink" You said. He'd always been nice to you, but never as forward at initiating contact. Come to think of it, he did actually seem to try to start conversations with you quite a lot, but somehow you were always interrupted.

"I want one too!" Matthew said. Ah. You remembered why you were always interrupted.

"Let's go" You weren't sure if drinking was a good idea, the two cocktails you already had had been mixed pretty strong and you were beginning to feel them. That was probably why you were feeling so emotional too. You were usually good at handling Matthew's snide remarks, but now they made you feel like shit.

"Should we do soju bombs?" Keita asked you.

"Yes!" Matthew shot in. A flash of emotion went through Keita's face. Did he look... annoyed? Could Keita even be annoyed? He had always been bright and happy when you'd seen him in the past. You didn't think his small frame could fit negative emotions.

"I'd like one, yeah let's do that" You said. Keita caught the bartender's attention and ordered three soju bombs. So he wasn't so angry with Matthew that he'd flat out ignore his request at least.

"I'm sorry for forcing you to stay for a bit" Keita said once you got your drinks.

"It's ok, it's been a while since I've seen you. How's everything been? Did you finish the track you were working on with Soyeon?" You asked. Keita's eyes lit up.

"Yeah! So, we actually ended up changing the sound completely. We were gonna go for a tropical electronica type of vibe, right? But then we figured, since it'll be coming out in the fall it didn't make much sense to do a summer song and with the lyrics too, and either way it just wasn't hitting, so then-" Keita went on to describe his process and you did your best to keep up with the little knowledge you had of music production. You were interested in learning more though, and it was easy to stay focused when Keita was speaking so passionately about it.

Matthew suddenly yelled out.

"SOMI!"

Oh no. Somi, Sung Hanbin, Zhang Hao, and Chaeyoung walked up to you. You felt like a caged animal. If only you could reach out for Keita's hand.

"Heyy Mattchew, missed me much?" Jeon Somi said and gave him a side hug. Zhang Hao went to hug Keita and tried standing between you and him, but Keita stepped behind Hao to keep being at your side. You were immensely relieved.

"How was your trip?" You asked Zhang Hao. He had been somewhat polite to you and you really didn't want to stand there awkwardly in silence.

"You went somewhere?" Keita asked him. You chugged a bit of your soju bomb to make the time you could leave come faster.

"Me and the others tried out DMT earlier. It didn't really hit for me though"

"Why would you fuck around with that shit" Keita said. You silently agreed but thought you had criticized enough idols for the night. Better avoid making another enemy.

"Ricky kept talking about how it totally changed his worldview" Zhang Hao defended himself.

"It didn't change anything for me but it was fun!" Matthew said.

"I wanna try too" Chaeyoung said, scrunching her lips together.

"I'll sell you some, we have some left over" Zhang Hao said. Hadn't Matthew said they were almost out? It wasn't as if you wanted to try, anyway. But it didn't feel good to know he purposefully lied to get Jiwoong away from you. And that Jiwoong just left you to fend for yourself. You knew and accepted that Jiwoong was ditzy, but he should have known better, and been a better friend. Or maybe it was rude of you to expect him to babysit. Maybe Jiwoong was just as sick of you as Matthew was, and the reason why he took the first chance to get away from you was that you were a bother to be around.

You really needed to leave. This whole night had been a disaster. The only reason you weren't in tears yet was because of Keita's calming presence next to you. You looked at him and immediately met his gaze.

"Do you wanna go for a cigarette?" Keita leaned in towards you and asked in a low voice. Yet again you were way too transparent with your emotions. How could he read you so well?

"Yeah, let's-" Matthew suddenly grabbed Keita's hand.

"You don't hate me for trying drugs right?" He asked and looked at him with a sickly sweet puppy expression.

"I don't, what do I care what you do with your body" Keita replied, trying to shake Matthew off him.

"I was peer pressured by Jiwoong and Ricky!"

"Ok" Keita said.

"Don't you think that's so mean of them? I really didn't wanna do it" Matthew wouldn't let go of Keita.

"It's none of my business" Keita said and this time you were sure of it, he really looked annoyed with Matthew.

"If only you had debuted with us, I wouldn't have been dragged into this sort of thing" Keita's jaw clenched. You knew he was still hurt by not making it to Zerobaseone's final lineup, yet he'd always been supportive of his friends who did. You admired the way he set aside his own feelings like that, but when Matthew brought it up so nonchalantly you didn't blame Keita for losing face, even if it was only for a split second.

"What are you acting all innocent for Matthew?" Zhang Hao interrupted.

"You were the one to convince Jiwoong"

"I just wanted to help my hyung! He's been so stressed out lately! Yet his friends keep texting him to meet up without checking in with his wellbeing..." Matthew shot a quick glance at you. It was obvious who the "friends" he spoke of was. But you didn't even blame Matthew for this shot at you, in fact maybe every comment he'd been making were justified. All along Matthew had just been frustrated on behalf of his friend who you'd been bothering without meaning to.

Jiwoong had been overwhelmed and you'd been pushy. Had you been? In the past month you had asked him a couple of times if he wanted to meet up, and he'd declined until tonight when he said you could join the party. You'd thought that he'd be sad if you stopped inviting him to things. You thought he'd be glad to be invited. But all this time you'd only been adding to his stress. So it wasn't Jiwoong who was the terrible friend, but you.

Your throat started to hurt. Oh no, you really were going to cry. You had to get out of there.

Your vision began to glaze over. You tried to put your drink on the table, but blinded by tears you instead bumped into Somi, who was holding a glass of red wine-

"Hey?!"

“What the fuck?!"

The wine spilled all over Matthew. Just like before, the conversation stilled and everyone stared at you. You rapidly blinked away your tears but they were coming too fast now.

"I'm so sorry, so so sorry, I- , I'll pay for dry-cleaning I really didn't mean to-," you choked out.

"Can you even pay for that? How much is Jay Park even paying you?" Somi said.

"What?"

"I mean- aren't you his escort?"

"She isn't" Keita said.

"She sure looks like it" Matthew said. Keita took off his glasses and put them on the bardisk.

"What did you say"

"I mean, didn't you see how they were walking around together earlier? Is that how you know Jiwoong too? Although I would have thought Jiwoong hyung would have gone for someone a bit more-" Matthew was cut off by Keita's fist hitting him square in the jaw. Somi and Chaeyoung screamed.

"Wha- Did you just hit me?" Matthew asked.

"I don't give a shit that you're hopelessly in love with me. It doesn't give you the right to treat Y/N like that. Keep her name out of your mouth, and while you're at it, mine too. I don't need childish celebrity sick people around me" Keita said and grabbed your hand.

"Let's go home"

Keita dragged you away from the others without looking back. More people had gathered around seeing the commotion, but he shoved past them until you all of a sudden found yourself outside.

He kept holding your hands as you walked further away from the party, down the long winding road until Jackson's huge house became a dot on the horizon. You'd halted crying from the shock of Keita punching Matthew - that really had happened, right? You stopped dead in your tracks.

"We have to go back and apologize," you said.

"There's nothing to apologize for" Keita turned around to face you, still holding your hand in his.

"I- I ruined Matthew's clothes.. and you punched him!"

"He deserved it"

"He... It was all my fault. He's right, I've been bothering Jiwoong all month, or maybe longer, and he just took pity on me bringing me here-" You began crying again. Just what you'd been afraid of, being a snotty mess right in front of Keita. But at that point you'd made such a fool of yourself it hardly mattered. Keita took you in his arms.

"That isn't true, Matthew's just saying that because he's jealous of you. Jiwoong always speaks warmly of you" You held onto his chest. Keita rubbed comforting circles on your back and you put your forehead on his shoulder, your own shoulders shaking slightly.

"He's just saying nice things about me to you because he knows I-"

"Knows you what?" Keita asked and stopped his movement.

"That I... Wait, why is Matthew jealous of me?" Keita pulled back. He put a hand on your face, wiping your tears with his thumb.

"Isn't it obvious?" Keita asked. Time seemed to slow down. You looked into each other's eyes for a split second or an eternity, you weren't sure. Then he looked down at your slightly parted lips, before closing the gap between you.

His soft mouth seemed to barely touch yours, yet a million sparks shot through him and into you, warming your whole body. You closed your eyes and let your hands slide up to his neck. He pressed down harder, then let go for a moment, gently touching your bottom lip with his thumb, before strenghtening the grip on your cheek, leading you back to him, this time the reservation of the first kiss nowhere to be found.

Your breath hitched. Keita took a small step back, one hand still resting on your hip.

"I'm sorry I just.. Fuck, I've wanted to do that for a long time" he said and pulled a hand through his hair. Your head was spinning.

"You like me?" You asked. Keita looked at you for a moment.

"Of course I like you, I've been trying to get close to you for months"

"I just- That's. Wow. I didn't realize. You never said anything"

"I've been TRYING to ask you out but there's always some jerk next to you, or next to me..." You saw the annoyance return to Keita's face as the thought of Matthew reentered both of your minds.

"So Matthew likes you? And you punched him"

"Just because he's got a crush on me doesn't give him the right to pick on you. He's been awful to you for months and every time I tell him to quit he just gets worse."

"I didn't realize people could tell Matthew's been... I thought you were close?"

"We were close and I do have love for him but.. The way he's been acting has really changed my perception of him"

"Wait you aren't..."

"What?"

"Because Matthew is a guy..."

"What? Oh, of course not, fuck, do you think people think like that? Hold on- are people gonna think I just committed a hate crime" Keita looked genuinely afraid.

"We should go clarify so you don't get cancelled," you said and took his hand.

"Nah, it's ok. I'll just leak the pictures of me and Matthew- uhm"

"You and Matthew what? His crush IS one-sided, right?"

"Yes, yes it is. We just made out drunk one time and Ricky took blackmail photographs... Matthew's cute and all but I'm not interested in him, which I've made clear. I only like you" Your heart skipped a beat. He looked shyly to the side. You grabbed his hand.

"I like you too, Keita" You smiled. He smiled too.

"It isn't as if your physical assault on Matthew was the most illegal thing that went down over there," you said.

"Yeah, I'll be good. Still gonna post some selfies I've taken with Seowon and Woonggi to stay in the clear from those types of rumors though.. I mean I can't stop the rumors about the actual assault since well, I did really hit Matthew, OK in retrospect I do regret it a bit. But I don't want to apologize to him after he made you cry" You groaned.

"That was so embarrassing. I must look like a mess right now, I can't believe you kissed my snotty face"

"It's OK, your snot didn't taste to bad"

"Did you really taste my snot?!"

"Maybe a little bit."

"Kill me now"

"How about I take you home instead? And we'll circle back to committing seppuku together tomorrow"

"Ok, sounds like a plan"

It didn't matter that you'd both gained several enemies that night. You finally got each other.

shen quanrui the two of you are on a date in the city. eating ice cream, doing some shopping- ricky insisted on spoiling you- and then just wandering through the streets talking about whatever comes to mind. while walking ricky noticed that your shoelaces became untied, he told you to stop for a second and kneeled down to tie them for you. that alone let your breath hitch, but when he looked up and had THAT look on his face? your heartbeat skipped several beats.

him tying your shoelaces and looking up at you.

kim gyuvin silly boyfriend here. he wanted to take you out on a fancy dinner date and really wanted you two to dress up fancy as if you were going to a fucking wedding or something. you were getting ready in the bathroom as gyuvin called out for you, his voice desperate. you found him in your bedroom, a tie in his hand and a big pout on his lips. park gunwook gunwook took you to the cinema to watch a movie you wanted to watch since the first trailer dropped. he insisted on driving you back home after the movie ended and as a thank you for the wonderful date, you gave him a little suprise hug. mind you- you haven't been dating for that long (2 months) and weren't big on pda yet and you weren't sure if gunwook would mind or not. but by the way his heartbeat sped up the second your arms wrapped around his torso and your head hit his chest, or by the way his face was flushed bright red when you pulled away, he probably didn't mind it that much.

han yujin he may be your boyfriend, but first and foremost he's still your best friend. his company makes everything better; even the most dreadful and boring math class becomes bearable thanks to him. it was the last period of the day and yujin has claimed your non dominant hand while you were busy taking your (and yujins…) notes. a weird feeling on your hand however made you stop in your tracks; yujin was doodling a bunch of hearts onto your skin. he shot you his cute, innocent signature smile once he realized you were watching him.

for the past few days, y/n has been absolutely hopeless.

it's been almost a month since the end of boys planet, yet he still curses at himself for not winning, for disappointing not only himself but everyone who rooted for him as well. he can't process the fact that he didn't make it.

he didn't make it, but taerae did.

he remembers taerae simply falling into his arms, immediately clutching onto his shirt, y/n had told him that he was proud of him, tears still clinging to his eyes as he told him that he'll miss him, that he loves him, that he hopes to see him again around the wakeone building.

he really cursed himself with those words didn't he?

y/n loves each of his fellow wakeone trainees, don't get him wrong, but it's always been different with taerae. they've always been particularly close, having known each other even before auditioning for wakeone.

they seemed to be attached by the hip, doing pretty much almost everything together. y/n would always offer to help him when he didn't get a certain move during practice, but then they would end up giggling about stupid stuff for four whole hours.

they simply fit together, like the two final pieces of a puzzle.

too bad the universe didn't agree.

y/n swore he wasn't gonna cry, really, but then taerae mentioned him in his speech and he broke down into tears. he cried into his hand the whole time, devastated.

it's probably his fault for deciding to join a survival show.

y/n can't escape the image of taerae, pretty pretty taerae, his eyes shining as he stared at him with so much love, appreciation.

he will never forget the small whisper. taerae pulling him into a hug and whispering a small; "i love you" before he walked up the stairs, winning sixth place.

he can't get rid of the absolute disappointment he feels for not debuting.

the days after were horrible, he simply can't do anything without being reminded of taerae. the two of them are still friends, obviously, but everything is so different, because now he's no longer with him.

he can't do anything without hearing his voice, his pretty voice, his guitar strumming as he sings, like he always used to do when they were trainees.

it's like y/n is there, but he isn't, he's just constantly in a state of disassociation, listening to his friends speak but not really hearing their words, speaking but not really making sense.

trust and believe, y/n has tried, but he can't bring himself to talk to taerae. this makes no sense, because they always talk so effortlessly, but every time he sees him around the wakeone building, he freezes and immediately walks away.

he could text him, yeah, but he always gets nervous whenever he opens his contacts list and sees taerae's number.

he hates it, he hates this problem he's having.

he feels like an idiot, a fucking idiot. after everything he did, all the training, all the scolding, all the bullying, all of those times he collapsed from overworking himself, and he couldn't debut.

he's cried so much in the past few days that he feels as if he physically can't anymore.

it's clear that hanbin wants to say something, but whenever he tries to bring it up, y/n just lies, giving a fake smile then locking himself in his room for three hours.

everybody notices the spiral of depression that y/n is currently falling down. he never talks anymore, instead resorting to chewing on his nails, he always fidgets, doesn't sleep properly, doesn't even like eating.

it's safe to say, he's been a mess.

he sometimes just spends all day in his room, none of the wakeone trainees wanting to go in because he's just gonna lie again. it's not like their company cares, and taerae, the only person he wants to see, is busy, having literally flown to another country for kcon.

everything is messy.

but he can't just stay like that forever.

that is exactly what jeonghyeon thinks as he walks into his room, having pushed the door open because he knew if he knocked y/n still wouldn't open the door.

he frowns at the sight before him. "y/n".

said boy looks up, smiling, before he throws his badtz maru plushie across the room, it landing right in front of his closet door. "hi" he says quietly, crossing his arms and sighing at his computer.

jeonghyeon sits down beside him, sighing. "y/n, when do you plan to leave your room?"

"what do you mean?" y/n asks in that tone of obliviousness he always used when he would deny his feelings for taerae. jeonghyeon blinks, shaking his head at the older.

"y/n, all you do is sit in your room, listen to love begins with a confession on loop, cry into that badtz maru plushie you just threw across the room, then sleep in your bed and not make it afterwards".

y/n deadpans, but jeonghyeon is right, that's all he's been doing this past week. he huffs, crossing his arms. he enjoyed doing those things, for jeonghyeon's information!

"okay, and?" jeonghyeon laughs at y/n's tone, shaking his head once again.

"and, you've rewatched every episode of pucca seven times already".

y/n scoffs; jaw dropping in shock. "what do you want, jeonghyeon?"

"y/n, you have been trapped in your room for a whole entire week" jeonghyeon states, and y/n immediately looks away. "i'm worried, hanbin's worried, junghyun's worried, woonggi's worried, even seunghwan's worried! and he isn't even in this company—"

"just get to the point, jeonghyeon".

"you need to finally get out again" jeonghyeon quickly says, and y/n bites his inner cheek, gaze moving towards the badtz maru plushie he'd thrown across the room.

the one taerae bought for him..

"alright y/n" the lee clears his throat. "to get you to finally leave your room, were going out tonight".

y/n raises his eyebrows. "going out?"

"me, you, hanbin, minseok, woonggi, seowon, haruto, seunghwan, a bunch of the eliminated trainees" he explains, but y/n still seems pretty hesitant. "were getting together for the night, for you".

"what about mun junghyun? don't exclude him, he's one of us too, you know" y/n responds, as if completely ignoring everything else jeonghyeon had said just to talk about the 05 liner.

"junghyun is a child, he can't go out with us".

"he isn't that much younger than haruto, though".

"that's off topic" jeonghyeon smiles. "come on, y/n, you've been cooped up in your room all this time, and we don't just want to sit by and not do anything about your depression".

y/n sighs, reaching over for his laptop, which is paused on episode 20 of pucca. he looks over at jeonghyeon, whose patiently waiting for a response.

"of course i'll go jeonghyeon".

jeonghyeon gasps, his jaw dropping, like he wasn't expecting that response. "i— i really shouldn't just be sitting here and doing nothing while you guys are worrying about me, so of course i'll go with you guys!"

jeonghyeon smiles softly at y/n, staring at his friend so fondly it looked like he might cry. "hey, don't get emotional now, lee jeonghyeon".

"i know, i listened to you cry over taerae for a whole entire week already—"

jeonghyeon gets a pillow thrown right at his face.

"shut up, jeonghyeon!"

"but it's true!"

"i still can't believe you guys made me spend all of my money".

hanbin continues to complain whilst jeonghyeon chuckles and y/n whistles. he had a seriously good time going out with his friends, it was nice to see all of his friends again, hear their loud voices and screams from doing stupid things.

it seemed that woonggi had agreed, because he continuously kissed y/n's cheek and hugged the hell out of him the whole time.

reuniting with the old trainees was nice, they were all insanely chaotic, which was oddly comforting to him, as he hadn't heard any loud voices in so long, being trapped in his room almost all week.

"your the one who said you could manage all the financial stuff" jeonghyeon replies, y/n nods, yawning as he hears hanbin begin to complain once again.

"yeah! but you guys wanted so much! i'm not ricky, you know?"

y/n giggles at the joke, stuffing his hands into his pockets as the trio continue walking. he couldn't deny, he really did have fun, he can't help but be thankful that jeonghyeon dragged him out of his room for the night.

"you guys, thank you" y/n states when they get to the front of the wakeone building. "i probably would've gotten worse if you hadn't dragged me out of my room, your seriously amazing friends for including me instead of just leaving me to rot there alone—"

hanbin and jeonghyeon exchange glances, a knowing smile coming to their faces as they stare behind their friend. y/n blinks, tilting his head in confusion. "what?"

hanbin chuckles. "y/n".

y/n doesn't get what the hell the two of them could be snickering about. "guys, what?"

jeonghyeon simply points behind him, unable to control his laughter.

"hi".

"ah!"

y/n jumps, immediately placing a hand on his chest. "holy shit, kim taerae, you need to stop scaring me".

wait— who?

when y/n turns around and sees taerae standing behind him, smiling, he jumps again, screaming. taerae laughs, and y/n covers his face.

"hi y/n".

"oh" y/n laughs, face burning with embarrassment as he looks over at hanbin and jeonghyeon, who whistle and look away. "taerae, hi".

"you two should talk" hanbin immediately says, grabbing ahold of jeonghyeon who squeaks in agreement as he allows himself to get dragged away by hanbin, waving at the pair.

"why are you so surprised?" taerae laughs, y/n simply stares, as if not believing that he's real. "did you think i wasn't gonna come see you?"

"taerae" he repeats. he's said his name so many times, but actually seeing him is so.. weird after the finale and him having flown to japan for kcon.

"y/n" taerae says, he walks forward and grabs y/n's hands. "what's wrong?"

y/n resists the urge to absolutely break down in taerae's arms, he tightens his grip around taerae's hands, staring at him for so long that everything starts getting blurry.

"oh my god" he whispers, and taerae laughs once again. he's in shock, taerae is here, yeah taerae trains in the wakeone building, obviously, but taerae is here, with him, holding his hands.

"y/n, i'm here, hi".

"shit, hi".

"i— i just can't believe your actually here, in front of me, it feels like it's been forever since i've seen you".

"jeonghyeon filled me in on your situation" y/n winces to himself as taerae begins laughing at his expression. "love begins with a confession on repeat? seriously? you were thinking of me, right?"

"wasn't it obvious?" y/n inquires back as the two of them begin walking together, hand in hand. "i sat in my room for a whole entire week, crying into that badtz maru plushie you got me, rewatching almost every single episode of pucca".

"you love that show!"

"exactly! it was comforting to me!"

taerae chuckles, staring at y/n with those fond eyes. "i thought you were in japan?" he asks, and taerae shakes his head.

"i was" he replies. "i only flew back a few days ago, and jeonghyeon called me to explain what was going on with you, and i felt bad".

"bad? for what?"

"because i was in a whole other country and you were here suffering because of me!" taerae yells, and y/n frowns, swinging their hands back and forth.

"i was just.. disappointed, because i lost" y/n mumbles, and taerae caresses his hands as he opens the door to y/n's room. "and i couldn't debut with you, it felt like i was empty".

taerae hums, closing the door. he frowns at the sight of the badtz maru plushie laying face down in front of the closet. "what happened to badtz maru? i got that for you, you know".

"oh" y/n pauses. "i threw it in a fit of frustration".

taerae snickers, nudging y/n, which makes him whine in complaint. "how rude of you, i got that for you as a good luck charm!"

"i mean— it was! but i kept getting reminded of you whenever i looked at it, and i cried into it most of the time so i was just frustrated and threw it!"

taerae lets go of his hands, crossing his arms and pouting. "i can't believe you, y/n, you have betrayed me".

y/n stares at taerae, smiling. this is kim taerae, his longtime best friend kim taerae, his one and only kim taerae, his love kim taerae. he can't comprehend the amount of love he feels, just looking at him as he laughs.

just like old times, huh?

"y/n" taerae calls out, making said boy snap out of whatever daze he was having. "you should've told me, talked to me, i would've been willing to listen".

"i know but—" y/n pauses, sighing. "i didn't think you'd have time for me, because you now have a group and schedules and i couldn't work up the courage to call you.."

taerae stares at his love, instead smiling as he grabs his hands again. "y/n, i love you".

"taerae, i love you more".

at his response, taerae giggles, his face turning a shade of red at the response. "okay, stop it".

"sing for me".

taerae blinks, staring at y/n for a long moment before smiling. "like the old times?"

"like the old times".

taerae hums, letting go of y/n's hands to grab the guitar he keeps in the corner of the room. "what do you want me to sing?"

"spring breeze" y/n replies, and taerae seems a little surprised, tilting his head.

"spring breeze?" he raises an eyebrow; he always liked that song.

"yeah" y/n nods happily, sitting down beside taerae on his bed. "it's the only way i'll go to sleep tonight".

"sounds like an excuse" taerae is quick to say, making y/n frown. he pushes taerae slightly, making the boy laugh once again.

"sing for me or i kick you out of my room".

"that in love with my voice, huh?"

"just sing, i need to relax".

so that my winter can end— we really love each other, you come to me like the spring breeze.

that's just how they were.

y/n couldn't find a better circumstance to be in that night.
