There is a distinct technique used by capitalists to bypass the legal and contractual rights of workers which to my knowledge has no name currently - so I’m giving it one - Lunch Grinding.
Lunch Grinding is a manipulative erosion of worker rights both in and out of the workplace. It bypasses legal and contractual standards through informal social pressures which the bosses cannot be held directly accountable for.
Lunch Grinding is named after one of the most common examples. It begins by asking a few employees to skip lunch in order to finish a project. Workers who are already insecure about their position due to economic anxiety will see this as an opportunity to prove they are a good employee. Those who refuse to do so may receive blame for failing to finish the project on time.
The issue becomes compounded when the bosses begin to purposefully schedule less time to complete the same projects. A distinct class begins to appear ignoring their contractual right to a lunch break - who become hostile to those who refuse to work during lunch for being “lazy” or “the reason we didn’t finish on time.”
At this point the management no longer needs to influence anyone directly to work through lunch break, simply by keeping up the sense of constantly being a little late for the project they have ensured the lunch-grinders will apply pressure to their peers who aren’t working through breaks.
As workplace hostility increases towards the “unproductive” members who are expressing their formal right to a break - they will be replaced with new individuals who may not even realize they have the right to a lunch break because working through the hour has become normalized by their peers.
Thus formal written standards from contracts and legal code become functionally non-existent. After which a new standard will be identified by management for erosion some examples include:
+Accepting uncertain hours. +Working off-the-clock. +Staying “On-Call” at all times. +Finishing projects / responding to emails at home. +Never using time off or sick leave.
All of which are socially conditioned in the same format - starting with “The Good Worker” who does a little favor for their boss - and ending as a peer enforced pressure and a perpetual hostility from management claiming productivity isn’t as high as expected.

the generations to come will grow up using computers that resemble the touchscreens you order food at a deli from, no root access, not owned by them, only accessible via a few rigorously controlled and selected pathways allowed by the manufacturer, logging in will require a user profile with mandatory valid payment details which will be routinely used to access already extent functionality, their operations will be preempted while advertisements play, they will be taken to court if the electronic anti-tampering hardware is tripped. this will happen

If you’re not keeping up, Cartoon Network sold off most of its original programming over the last few years to run exclusively on HBO Max, but after a merger with Discovery, HBO has taken them all down, including those that were still in production, for what is long story short a big tax write-off.
And it’s not a simple matter of them just airing or streaming somewhere else now. It’s a very complicated issue of rights and contracts and money but essentially it’s very possible that these shows will never be available again in official capacity and their creators will never see another penny from them again, either. Some completed episodes may also be lost media, indefinitely.
For a couple of series, such as Mao Mao and Infinity Train, Cartoon Network has gone back and scrubbed all tweets, youtube clips or other mention of the series existence, confirming they likely no longer have the rights to take them anywhere else.
The tweet today by the art director of Tig N’ Seek made me saddest.

A lot of people this week have simply given up on their industry careers, seeing years of their life’s work just vanish into a corporate vault overnight. Being able to point to your work on a streaming service had apparently even become a pretty critical part of the portfolios they now rely on to get new jobs.
Streaming media went from an optimistic new frontier to even worse than cable TV so suddenly.

Yes, I've posted this before. It is super-relevant now.
If you are able to become pregnant, YOU HAVE NO SAY over what happens if you do. You have no right to make your own decisions about your own life and your own body.
YOU HAVE LESS BODILY AUTONOMY THAN A CORPSE.
Think about that.

I will continue amplifying voices like this re: the latest public health crisis, monkeypox, because the media isn’t. I’m not about to watch the LGBTQ community be victimized by our system’s incompetence or be villainized by the Right if this spreads further and we’re then blamed as we were for HIV/AIDS.
I hope you’ll help me spread the word.

so in the last 48 hours in uk politics, over 50 ministers resigned from their posts and sent in ‘strongly worded letters’ telling the PM to resign, boris johnson attempted to appoint new ministers which resulted in 3 different education secretaries in 2 days, somehow amongst all of this he still had time to fire michael gove, eventually he resigned as PM this afternoon, and a ton of ministerial interviews had the benny hill themetune in the background because a protestor blasted it outside parliament after HUGH GRANT told him to. welcome to britain

Okay I was simply scrolling because Sri Lanka is fucking trending but as usual international media is exoticizing  our struggles and focusing on the “people swimming in the president’s pool” instead of informing the world about why an entire fucking country (amidst an economic collapse) stormed to Colombo and asked the president to step down.
First things first. Know the context.
There is an economic crisis going on in Sri Lanka. We have declared bankruptcy.
Tumblr media
I’ve already made a post about what this means for the country. This means high inflation. No electricity. Princes are sky rocketing.
No fuel. I repeat. No fuel. People are fucking dying in queues.
Tumblr media
But even without fuel, people came to Colombo. People fucking walked to Colombo for miles and miles to join the protest.
There were attempts to stop the protest. We have the right for assembly. We have the right to freedom of expression. But no. The government stopped fuel dispense (as if we had fuel lol) to stop people. They imposed an unconstitutional “police curfew” to stop the protest. Why is no one talking about this shit??
But people still came. I don’t see the international media reporting about the effort and energy and passion that went into this.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
We built a city. Do you fucking know that? We built a city called “GotaGoGama (loosely translates to: Gota-Go-Home-Ville). We built a city months ago since the country collapsed.
Tumblr media
Recap of May 09th when GotaGoGama was attacked by Mahinda Rajapaksha (then PM) and his goons.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I repeat. The protest on 09th July is not the first.
We’ve been asked the president to step down so more competent people can take over and do something to help us. This protest yesterday was not new. It’s not random. It’s an act of people giving up. The storming of the presidential palace is not anger. It’s taking back of power.
As for the swimming pools? And People making fun of the protestors for working out in the president’s gym, eating the food in his kitchen and swimming in his pool?
What about this?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
For people making fun of the youth who are taking a dip at the swimming pool or playing the piano at the president’s house…For those are the condemning the protestors who set the PM’s house on fire (we still have no visual proof this happened) - all I have to say is this:
THIS -
Tumblr media
These leaders we asked to step down today (who still haven’t btw. No. Not yet. Nothing official yet), they are corrupt beyond compare. The president had “said” he “will” step down not he 13th. But we don’t know anything yet.
These are people who not only brought the country to economic collapse. But the Rajapaskhas are responsible for millions of lives that were lost during the civil war. These are people who have taken from my country until there is nothing more for us to give.
Tumblr media
I’m really grateful that you are all finally “talking about us”. I’m glad the international media and the whole world is finally watching. But your view is narrow. Your sight is short sighted.
International media. People of the world.
Do better.
Do fucking better.
Because we, Sri Lankans, are doing our fucking best right now.

So to recap (end of June - July 2022 edition) we got:
- 4th of July shooting in Chicago
- people with uteruses have less rights than an assault rifle in the U.S.; right-wing Scotus can get hit by a plane
- Edit: Native Americans have been added to the list of people with less right than an assault rifle in the U.S.
- a third of the British Parliament resigning cause of how much everyone hates Boris Johnson
- Edit: Boris Johnson has now resigned cause of how much everyone hates Boris Johnson
- Shinzo Abe, former Prime Minister of Japan, got shot while giving a speech
- Edit: *Former Former Prime Minister… he got Lincoln’d
-  a far-right French politician accidentally pinned the assassination of Shinzo Abe on popular video game designer Hideo Kojima, which a major Greek news outlet relayed, only furthering the idea that Kojima did it
- the war in Ukraine is still going on
- the state of Canada can be summarized by this image:   https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/862558639735046146/995130724791365652/unkown.png
- Hunter Biden got trending on twitter for the hundredth time and nobody gives a shit seriously who gives a shit conservatives get him trending for literally breathing why is this still happening-
- Baymax is a Leftist
- the Argentinian economic minister has resigned following an inflation crisis that is crippling the country, but all you’ll find on Twitter is people excited about the new futbol jersey for the next World Cup (no one is surprised by this)
- Elon Musk backed out of his deal to purchase Twitter for $44 billion; it was believed he didn’t know the meaning of the term “pulling out” so this was quite the surprise
- Edit: Twitter is now suing Elon Musk for not buying Twitter
- the Prime Minister of Sri Lanka pulled a Ted Cruz and has fled the country after citizens stormed the presidential palace in a mass riot following the announcing of the country being officially bankrupt
- Edit: The PM of Sri Lanka has agreed to resign his position as PM; that is two world leader resignations and one former world leader assassination in one week; I now have the sudden urge to drink myself into 2040
