A Silken Malice: Cover

I've been sitting on this for a while now and I'm still pretty happy with it, so! As I pick up my hopefully final read-through of ASM, I think it's time to share :D

As someone with less than zero artistic skills, I'm pretty proud of how it turned out :D

George's scenes are very much still being figured out, so I'm not entirely happy with how his character is portrayed yet. This has definitely opened my eyes to how little of his anxiety he lets slip in dialogue :'D

It's really amazing that the conversations have helped your outlook on yourself. You absolutely deserve that. 💞

There's a sentiment I've seen out in the wild a few times that women can't/won't let themselves get invested in female characters because they're subconsciously comparing themselves to them (and finding themselves lacking) and I have to wonder how common this is because it's a concept that would never have crossed my mind before now.

I'm aware that self-insertion is a phenomenon that occurs but I always thought it was relegated to the niche spaces of y/n reader fics, YA, and romance, not that women would be approaching media at large and trying to project themselves onto the female lead in general. I have to admit it's something I have trouble getting my head around and I can't quite understand the logic.

Keep Me Breathing - Cover Reveal

IT'S HERE!!! I can finally show you the cover for my debut novel.

I love it so much!! And a HUGE shout out to L00llaby for drawing the beautiful illustration for the cover.

I mean, I've had my hands on this illustration for a while now. It's even my phone wallpaper AND lock screen. And I still get all excited when I see it.

Fubuki Snow has everything. Her motorcycle, books, a job she likes and her family. Why would she ever need to leave her home? Besides, everything she needs to know about the world outside, she can learn from her best friend. Sakura Petal is nothing like her friend. She has always loved adventure and romance. Even if she only manages to get one of them, it doesn’t stop her from trying. When her son goes missing, the two friends set out into the cave system to identify the only clue they have. Even with Sakura’s knowledge and their newfound friends, the search for the boy only seems to create more questions than answers. Will Fubuki be able to get him home, before it’s to late? And who will still stand beside her when she does?

That's interesting and I wouldn't be surprised by it being true for people.

I, myself, I started to realize, a while ago, that many of the female characters that I find annoying isn't necessary because they are badly written/portrayed(some are), but rather because they have qualities that I hate in myself.

That said, I can't imagine myself going into a piece of media with the intention to project myself onto the female lead.

Somehow this has landed entirely in description which is a very rare feat for my dialogue-heavy writing :'D

Light:

The night was cloudy and cold, and Henry filled his lungs with the crisp late-November air. He was used to the cold—and at least here on land he was dry, and could count on a roaring fire or a hot drink or a warm bath to revive him. There were only two other people on the streets, but lights were still on behind the drawn curtains of Tunwick's sparse houses, lighting his way well enough.

Dark:

[Mack] was in the study when Henry found him—the last place he would have expected. He was sat at the desk, a lamp lit at his elbow, cleaning something small with a greasy rag. An array of tiny metal pieces of all shapes had been neatly arranged on the desk in front of him. Most looked dark and dirty and some even rusted, but a few had been set aside; these few had been polished to a gleam. Mack lifted his chin in greeting, but didn't move to explain himself.

Out:

The man on the porch was not what Henry expected. He was cleanly dressed in a dull brown suit, and had a mop of curly brown hair that barely kept out of his eyes. He carried with him a heavy-looking leather bag. A pair of thin-framed glasses were perched on a freckled nose, and he had a wide-eyed look about him as of one thoroughly out of their depth.

Within inside:

Mack grunted reluctant agreement and got up to open the safe. Inside were two books: one, a smart black journal marked in numerous places with paperclips. The other, a thick leather-bound book with gold detailing around the spine and over the cover. At the base of the spine was some sort of symbol; a series of overlapping gold loops. Henry recognised it, although he couldn't place it at all.
