Hey I don’t know if this is being talked about on Tumblr but thankfully the AO3 subreddit has a conversation going about this app that just went live.

TikTok user unravel.me.now has just launch an app (lore.fm) she is calling “Audible for AO3”. It’s an app that uses AI voices to read out fics.

🚨She is requiring any authors who do not want their fics to be on this app to OPT OUT by emailing [email protected] 🚨 🚨She has not given an actual template or how you’re supposed to prove you’re the author or said how her team will process this or how she will keep these requests secure🚨

I do not have this app. I haven’t seen anyone use it yet. According to Reddit users, unravel.me.now’s earlier TikToks stated she envisions the app being able to create libraries stored on that app and to have version of “Spotify wrapped”. That implies that eventually data collection must happen, if it’s not happening currently.

I don’t know the actual capabilities of this app. I don’t know the legalities. I do know that it personally feels like this app is trying to turn AO3 into a content generation source and I haven’t heard of the app allowing you to leave a comment or kudos or interact with the original work.

I’m just sad about this.

I already have…SO much back story and so many character notes for this AU. I am, in fact, a pro tennis fan and I am LIVING for the details in this fic.

Francis used to be a doubles CHAMPION with JCR—they were especially famous for winning the Australian Open multiple times. But Ross retired young and became a commentator because Ann didn’t want him to travel for tournaments 300 days a year and it SHATTERED Francis (he’d never been great in singles and can’t find another partner he clicks with) so he turns to coaching but he’s WILDLY inconsistent and increasingly drunk but then he takes on young rising star Tom Jopson and mysteriously suddenly gets sober and becomes a REALLY good coach.

And James is starting to age out of the upper levels of competition—he’s hung around in the top 30 for most of his career but has never made it past the quarters in a major (and was hampered by a freak injury at the Shanghai Open). Nobody expects him to make it anywhere at Wimbledon this year but he miraculously wins his Round of 16–and his coach, Sir John Franklin, is literally so surprised he has a heart attack and DIES.

So here James is, most important opportunity of his CAREER, it’s WIMBLEDON and he’s (sort of) British, people are FREAKING OUT and he has NO HEAD COACH.

Coincidentally, Jopson twisted and ankle and is out of the tournament, so Francis is suddenly without a player. He’s always been prickly with James, in a way he isn’t with any other players, but James has always secretly admired (lusted after WHOOPS) him and shoots his shot. Francis agrees—he will coach ONE match, and James will likely lose anyway.

Also James made a promise to himself when he was younger that if he ever got as far as the quarters at Wimbledon he would wear a skirt for the match 😈
