( 🐮 ) ― "Please, no need to be so formal with me. You may simply call me Askr. We are all allies here, after all." He offered Grima a warm, genuine smile before continuing on. He appreciated the respect they had given him, yet he found no need for such a title. Askr did his best to be an equal to the other Heroes who had been summoned to the kingdom of Askr. He saw little reason to be referred to in such a regard; though he would always respect those who enjoyed the use of titles.

"Well, it is...quite a bit more complicated than whether I agree with them or not. And quite the long story." Askr began, his face turning a touch more serious. This was anything but a simple topic, after all. The god paused, his ear twitching slightly as he pondered on how to continue.

“If you would like the short version - it is because I trust my people to act in a way that reflects the core values of this land. To be kind, and always strive for peace. To never give up hope. However, I am very aware that peace doesn’t always come easily. Forces far beyond my control continue to seek out this prosperous land to threaten it. Some seek it out to destroy it. Some for power, or control of the land, others…simply because they want it gone.” The very concept seemed to trouble him deeply. His eyes fell to the wayside, deep-rooted sorrow taking hold of his sky-blue eyes. He didn't stay looking away long before his eyes returned to Grima.

“In any case, whatever the reason they may have, I believe it is my job to aid and protect the people of this kingdom. The Divine Weapon the Summoner wields has the ability to summon Heroes…but without my power it would summon them without their souls. There is reason for that. I wish for those who are summoned to this land to truly be themselves, and that means they need their souls. It would not be right of me - of anyone - to summon soulless shells of people to fight our battle for us. With their souls, they’re allowed to forge bonds with other people here. They are allowed to express their wants- their desires, including the desire to not fight or to go home. Those who are summoned here have a myriad of reasons for staying - but at the end of the day, it is their choice." To Askr, it was far kinder than using regular soldiers or soulless husks of heroes. If there was to be a fight for peace, he preferred it to be by people who truly wanted to fight for this cause.

"It is a mutually-beneficial partnership, for however long they are here in Askr. They are allowed to train and fight, to learn an untold amount of knowledge, to feast on meals from realms untold, to relax and enjoy grand festivals…some heroes even get a second chance at living! If they truly do not wish to fight…I believe they could simply say so, and the Summoner would surely do their best to send them home. The heroes here believe in what they are fighting for, or at the very least have some reason they continue to fight, otherwise…they wouldn’t.” Askr finished speaking, pondering the situation for a moment. That was the shortest way he thought he could explain it. The longer version included history of the land, how things came to be like this…and that was all quite a lot for him to dump on Grima at once, though he wouldn’t mind if they had further curiosities...he figured he had spoken quite enough.

“If you were in my position,” he began, his signature warmth and bright smile returning to his face, “do you think you’d do things differently - what would you do?”

- The god of connections was strangely intimidating. Grima would not admit that aloud - or even to themself, really - but something about his cheerful, honest demeanor was making them uncomfortable. Perhaps it was simply because they typically preferred to not speak to those types of people? Or perhaps they just weren't used to being addressed by anybody in such a way, let alone another dragon....

- "...Normally it may bother me," they admitted, crossing their arms as they gazed up at him, "but for one such as yourself I suppose I'd prefer if you continued to do so... Best if we did not misunderstand each other, after all." They wouldn't squander an opportunity to talk openly, especially with the very god they were practically summoned to serve, by making him hold himself back.

- "That being said, I fear I misunderstand you to begin with, Lord Askr. If I may be so forward myself... How is one such as yourself okay with this arrangement, exactly?" There was a surprising lack of disdain in their voice, a slight tilt of the head and even slighter raising of one eyebrow showing they were more legitimately curious than furious. "Summoning countless people from countless worlds to fight your conflict... I admit I've wondered for a while, now, whether or not you agree with your chosen humans on that course of action."

( 🐮 ) ― "Perhaps so." The quite-tall god responded with a wide smile. He wasn't exactly known for being subtle - especially not with how he felt about things. He didn't feel particularly ashamed to let others know when he had thoughts or opinions, and that wouldn't stop with strangers. Askr was himself, through and through. That being said, he wasn't opposed to toning things down for the sake of easier discussion on his conversation-partner's behalf.

"Does it bother you for me to be so straight-forward? If you'd prefer, I suppose I could always settle it down while we are chatting." Ever-polite, the god didn't want to miss the chance to chat with such a fascinating stranger. If that meant he would have to hold back for a time, he would do so. The chance to freely talk was more important than being blunt, after all.

"Truly, I do not mind either way. You need only say the word." Perhaps it was because the god adored talking to the many people summoned to his bright kingdom, but he never wanted to let go of a chance to relax and speak to the many, many fascinating people there.

( 🐮 ) ― "It'd be my pleasure." Askr smiled earnestly at the other hero standing with him. One of his favorite things about being summoned to the kingdom that shared his namesake was simply killing time. Spending time forging bonds with others, learning of the other realms and worlds out there...he would never tire of such a thing.

"Where to begin..." He hmmed softly, thinking for just a brief moment before going on. Perhaps he would start at the beginning - that seemed like the most logical place to start, after all.

"Well, I am Askr, the god of the kingdom...Askr. As proud as I am to have this beautiful kingdom named after me, I will admit it can get rather...mm...troublesome, at times, to share a name. Nevertheless, I am incredibly proud to be the one who got to watch this wonderful realm grow and flourish. Even in duress, the mortals in this land always push on and persevere. I am amazed by them - truly. I suppose I've always held a deep fondness of them. " Askr never seemed to stray from praising the mortals for long, it seemed.

"I am quite old now, however. I think I've begun to lose count of how many years I've been alive. There is quite a lot to know of me - did you have anything in particular you'd like to ask about?" The old god would feel quite remiss if he rambled on for too long and Kamui never got the chance to ask about something they wanted to. As a god, it wasn't uncommon for heroes to approach him asking to talk about what that was like or asking for advice on one thing or another. He would understand if Kamui had a curiosity like that.

Of course, he wouldn't mind continuing on even if there wasn't anything they had in mind. He simply felt it polite to check. Perhaps if there wasn't anything they had in mind, he'd return the question - and ask them to talk of themselves for a moment.

( 🐮 ) ― "Not this time, Embla. Opportunities like this only come once a year, after all." Grinning from ear-to-ear, Askr pulled his companion along by her hand. They wandered quietly through courtyards decorated brilliantly for the new year celebration.

"I've heard rumors of a tradition people share with their friends and family. At midnight on the evening of New Years, people gather with their loved ones to make a wish to ring in the New Year with hope. I want to make this New Years wish with you. I want to wish for your everlasting happiness." Askr spoke to her casually. That was all he truly wanted for any of his friends or family members - everlasting peace and joy. This year especially, however, he wanted to wish for genuine peace in her heart. She deserved it. Especially after all she had been through.

"You're welcome to make a wish as well, but know that you don't have to. It's just for fun, after all." Askr's feet slowed to a stop in a clearing. Quiet, distant chatter of excited heroes faintly filled his ears. They were far enough off he wasn't worried about them interrupting ; they were just close enough to fill the air with a pleasant ambiance.

Standing in the clearing, he let go of her hand, and sat down in the grass on a small blanket he had placed there previously in preparation of this moment. He pat the space on the blanket next to him, beckoning her to sit with him.

"Do you know what you want to wish for, yet? I have some spare ideas, if you'd like a suggestion or two." The god's brilliant blue eyes shone with excitement as he spoke to her - truly - he was happy to share this moment with such an old friend.

( 🐮 ) ― The bright god gave Embla a cheery smile. He was exceptionally amused at the implication of what she said. Fruit teas - for a fruit bat! It was, perhaps, one of the cutest things she had said in a long while. It was further proof that she had some sense of humor under that harsh exterior.

"I am almost certain they'll have an arrangement of teas - fruit included. Some of the heroes here are quite fond of brewing - so it is only natural our summoner friend keeps a stock of teas for such heroes. Is there a particular one you'd like? I can surely find it for you in a jiffy." Running errands for others was something Askr had grown quite fond of. It wasn't something most people expected of a god, but he reassured him each and every time that there was nothing more special about him than anyone else.

"Perhaps I am being a bit fretful." He admit, still smiling as wide as ever. "Though I do not see that changing anytime soon. You are my oldest companion, Embla, and it wouldn't be right of me not to worry over you. You may not need me to check on you, I know that. It's not about needing me to. Is there really something so wrong about wanting to spend time with an old friend?" Regardless of her answer, he would likely never change the way he acted around her. Even if she never changed how she acted, it would be...alright, to him. Being summoned to Askr gave him a renewed chance at helping her - and he'd remain remiss for the rest of his life if he squandered that.
