A journey of renewal and remembrance. My Indian Self ♥️ I've been raised in a Christian home but I was still exposed to the "usual" Indian lifestyle and never denied the fact that I am an Indian! Thankfully there's alot that I've learnt from my parents and extended family including my grandparents and great brahmin grandfather that was able to massage out almost any pain or issue and give out Ayurvedic treatments to anyone that needed it! 😊 But for some reason I felt that I was slowly drifting away from certain aspects of my incredible Indian heritage and that our current lifestyle and the absence of my grandparents amongst many other things had somehow over the years resulted in this feeling of not really being in touch with that part of me. Growing up hearing my parents and grandparents speaking in Tamil and even now my husbands family...they still speak Hindi but it seems to have slowly stopped with their generation for some reason and whilst I can sort of still understand it a bit .I cannot fluently speak it and that's just terrible! There's many other little but not so little things like this that seem to be slipping away slowly so I've finally heard the wake up call and have been slowly but surely taking it one step at a time to remember, grow and embrace as many elements as I can because once it stops here...what happens to the next generation?! I find that really frightening. It's things like this that contribute and build not just a person but a community . Don't mistake a religion for a culture or heritage. There's a difference . We are responsible for the next generation . I've realised the importance of investing in our lives by maintaining and Growing whatever knowledge that I've received along the years and how desperately our beautiful culture needs to be cherished ! So I've started with the little things like cooking more traditional foods that we grew up enjoying, remembering those wise lessons imparted to me over the years , being more involved like my elders have been in the community and learn our indigenous languages so that I'm able to speak them fluently too and doing more classical dancing !  "A people without the knowledge of their past , origin & culture is like a tree with no roots"
