A Whole Cake

A/N: so in australia, we have a saying where if you fail at something or fall over/trip etc, we say “i ate shit”. It makes sense to me but just in case you’re puzzled, I’m sorry this is down under yeehawhaw. All images do not belong to me.

There were several moments that reminded you of how much you love him. Standing off-stage, you discovered such a moment watching over the boys. your boys, as you’d put it. Shuffled out of the way, you recalled how the day began; rushed and chaotic as ever with all eight of them. Having been around them for so long made your love for them grow even more, loving even the chaos from time to time. The bustling day seems a stark comparison to the readying bodies beside you, undoubtedly preparing to go on stage one more time. Your gaze settled on Seonghwa, standing behind the group as a protective older brother, his gloved hands clenched into a nervous fist. His lips lightly puckered into a pout as he fidgets with his earpiece for the tenth time in the past minute or so. Wanting to remain professional, you snuck toward his side and calmly nudged his hip with your own, offering your boyfriend a reassuring smile.

“Don’t eat shit out there,” you say with the warmest, sweetest smile, a juxtaposition to the crude tease that was thrown at him.

Seonghwa laughed, the sound muffled by loud music. He leaned slightly closer and said, “I won’t if you won’t.”

You jokingly squint at him and offered your pinky. “Deal. Loser buys cake-“

He was always quick to trust you, already looping his pinky with yours before you could finish your sentence. “Okay-“

“-a whole cake,” you grinned, watching his smile and eyes go a little wider. As one of your company’s managers walked by, you quickly took one agonising step away from the pink-haired idol, not wanting to get either of you in trouble. You were completely oblivious to the way your boyfriend stared at you under his tousled hair.

Seonghwa’s eyes softened at your bright disposition, noticing that you were trying to make him feel better before going on stage. He knew right then that you were one of the good ones. “I’ll see you after.”

You nodded quickly, watching him enter stage with determination. It was as if Seonghwa had a competition with himself to outdo his previous performances each time. You always admired his work ethics as a fellow idol, but it was the way he achieved such heights with compassion and grace that really won you over. A memory that stood out to you was the busy week last October where you were suddenly overwhelmed with work, spending most nights at the studio until the sun rose. Seonghwa never failed to bring you dinner despite his busy schedule. Nobody had ever done that before. Small gestures were what lead you into falling in love with him, which grew into loving all of him.

After the performances finished, all of you gathered on-stage for one last announcement and closing segment from the hosts. You couldn’t help but watched how serene Seonghwa looked under the lights, even with sweaty hair sticking to his face. You barely remembered your own performance and the bet you had, the shade of pink on Seonghwa’s lips making you suddenly senile. It was only in the empty garage of the building that you heard footsteps jog toward you.

“I heard you stumbled on stage, are you okay?” He asked softly, hands linking with yours.

“Yeah, why wouldn’t I be?”

“You have room for cake after eating shit?”

Your puzzled expression shifted quickly into feigned annoyance, biting your bottom lip as a smile betrayed you. “Ha ha, funny. Okay, fine, cake’s on me,” you surrendered dryly. “So you’re cheeky today, got it.”

Seonghwa opened the van’s door for you, lightly smacking your butt which earned him a yelp from your lips. “Only because you started it.”
