[Having lost one companion in Absolution, the Eighth Doctor was about to lose Charley Pollard, too. After an incredible journey of adventures, The Girl Who Never Was arrived. However, before deciding on the final story, Alan Barnes- who had introduced Charley in Storm Warning – had several plots in mine. He said: “There must have been five or six very different outlines for this one, as it changed an awful lot. Gary Russel had asked me to come up with a ‘writing out Charley’ story, which I was very happy to do.”
The original version featured the third Pollard sister, Peg, who had become a Secret Operations Executive spy but had gone missing in occupied France, so Charley took her place. It would have been set largely at the Grand Guignol Theatre in Paris and been purely historical. But Alan was never happy with it. A later version relocated the story to Singapore in 1942, and featured a character called Alex Grayle- related to Sebastian Grayle, from Seasons of Fear.
Alan said; “There’d been some talk of doing a Charley spin-off series, hence the Alex Grayle character- I thought we could do a wartime Avengers with Charley as a sort of Emma Peel, so they were going to go off together at the end.”
That ended up having a Philadelphia Experiment feel to it, in which the main villain of the story was a parallel universe Eighth Doctor whose own Charley had died- and he’d come to Singapore looking for a replacement. But then The Age of Steel came along, which had a very similar ending- companion Mickey going off to fight Cybermen in a parallel universe- so Cardiff didn’t really want Big Finish doing ‘parallel universe’ stories for a time.]

the simplicity of lactase supplements is so funny to me. it costs like $4 to circumvent evolutionary biology. want to eat dairy but your body doesn’t produce the enzyme necessary to digest lactose? the devs haven’t patched that yet but you can download a mod

“how dare you say we piss on the poor” is perhaps THEE best piece of vernacular to come out of tumblr dot com in the past decade. along with “what were you doing at the devils sacrament” (cheeky. inspired. relevant in every context) and “harold, they're lesbians” (timeless. funny as hell. gay)

all goofing aside I genuinely don't understand the urge to reimagine Taylor Allison Swift as a secretly queer icon when the pop music scene(TM) is like. literally overflowing with women who actually like women. Gaga and Kesha and Miley and Halsey are right there. Rina Sawayama and Hayley Kiyoko and Rebecca Black and Kehlani and Victoria Monét and Miya Folick if you're willing to get slightly less top 100. Janelle and Demi for them nonbinary takes on liking girls. like what are we doing here. like I'm not even saying you can't enjoy Taylor but why would you hang all your little gay hopes on her.

So, there's a lot of USians around who are very clearly fucking fed up with their political choices this election cycle, and planning to sit it out.
And I get it! What's the point of voting if there's no one to vote for?
The thing is, I'm Australian. In Australia, voting is compulsory. We don't get to sit out our elections, and I'll be real honest with you - we don't exactly get better choices than you lot. So how do you vote if there's no one to vote for? You find someone to vote against. And there's always someone to vote against.
Now, we have the pleasure of preferential voting in Australia - We get to rank every candidate from 1 to X, and I'll tell you, there's something so cathartic about putting the biggest bastard of the lot at the very bottom of your preferences. I understand that USians don't get that option - you get to mark one person, and that's it.
That means that you get one shot, so aim it at the biggest bastard of the lot. The candidate you most utterly detest. Put your vote in the worst possible place for them. Don't even think about who that vote's going towards, that's not the point. Remember, every vote is a vote against someone. Make sure you fuck up that someone's election day!

First you procrastinate on the task because it is not a big enough deal to get done urgently. Then you procrastinate on the task because it has become such a big deal that doing it is overwhelming. You would think that this implies a middle point where it is just big enough of a deal to get done easily, however the inherent perversity of the universe's causal geometry prevents this

You can donate to the Palestine Children's Relief Fund for as little as $1.00.
Tumblr media
There is a fee you can choose to apply to cover processing.
Tumblr media
Which if you choose to do leaves you with a total of ~$1.35 (USD) depending on the type of card you have.

PCRF has a score of 97% on Charity Navigator.
Adults and children alike are currently dying in Palestine due to starvation. (World Health Organization Link)
The Gaza Strip is one of two places in the entire world that is categorized as Phase 5 (the highest phase) on the Integrated Food Security Phase Classification scale.
So even if you think it isn't enough, remember that donating even as little as $1.35 helps! It's $1.35 they wouldn't have had otherwise. So donate if you can. 🇵🇸
