the way when jude confronts locke in TWK and locke easily confuses her with taryn, but when jude pretends to be taryn in QoN, Cardan IMMEDIATELY recognises her

its pretty clear which one of them loves his wife more

crying screaming throwing up because i just saw someone point out that cardan didn’t realize taryn was pretending to be jude because she was wearing the magic earrings that enhance the wearer’s beauty, and to cardan jude has always been more beautiful than anyone else, so he didn’t see anything amiss when taryn wore them and it made her more beautiful than usual. that’s also why he was able to tell when jude was pretending to be taryn—because, again, he finds her more beautiful than everyone else, including taryn.

hate being the emotion Cardan can understand best and the one Jude is the most comfortable reciprocating. Out of fear the other won’t feel the same and they’ll be left powerless. Because of the familiarity they have with hate and how it’s expected of them. The vulnerability that comes from love that they aren’t willing to feel. To love and let yourself be loved is to expose your true self and nothing is more terrifying when you’ve been hidden for so long, when trust can be a weapon against you. So you use hate as a shield and speak it into existence to cover up the parts of yourself you can’t make sense of. That you don’t want to make sense of. I hate you because I don’t know what to do with love.

It's Jude and Cardan rant time:

Their ship name could have been duartebriar which is arguably awesome as hell compared to Jurdan

Jude isnt just a strong female lead in the sense of she doesn't need to rely on anyone; she is a strong female lead because she will literally consume a little bit of poison every day in preparation which turns out to be extremely useful when she poisons Madoc's cup as well as hers because she couldn't know which one he would take

Cardan's only hug was after Jude killed Snake Cardan (snardan????) And most people I've seen do fanart of it have Jude as the "weak" one with desperateness and sadness, but I see it as letting Cardan have his moment of weakness. Letting him break down in her arms and she will always be here for him, her being stoic and strong for HIM in that moment

Headcanon: Jude explains the concept of anniversaries to Cardan (immortal fae probably dont see much use of them) but because Cardan loves the human realm he immediately becomes obsessed with them and starts reading up really obscure traditions to impress Jude and on their anniversary Jude sees what he's done and just smiles incredulously because she thought he would find it silly and says "What ????" And he just rants about everything he's learnt and all the things he's planned for them to do for the day

and yes i understand the majority of their relationship involved heated threats and lots of daggers but i can imagine Cardan being an absolute simp for his "Hospitality of Knives" wife and High Queen.

THE QUEEN OF MIRTH SCENE

Locke, the master of creating stories and ruining things, has gleaned Cardan’s feelings for Jude at this point. Since he cannot steal Jude away from him, the way he did Nicasia, he devises a way to humiliate Cardan instead. By forcing him to admit his feelings for the foolish mortal in front of his entire court. And the way Cardan does it is so masterful. He’s so smart — he can’t lie, so he does admit his feelings for Jude but does it in a way that it can also be taken in jest. He dreams of her. Her beauty (he admits she is beautiful, that he thinks she is) is alarming, excruciating.

Just kill me.

This series is all about what isn’t said moreso than what is said, what isn’t happening moreso than what is. The first time I read it, I wanted a romance that was in-your-face, didn’t have to think too much about it, let’s get to making out already type of romantacy. But their love story is so consuming, internal, pining, and yearning .. IM AT A LOSS FOR WORDS.
