This is will always tear me apart...

[Even amidst this desolation, flowers and their pollinators thrive. Only the region's human inhabitants appear to have vanished.]
Vanille: There are even more flowers than I remember—even though no one's here.
Fang: Thought there'd be more than flowers to greet us.

Never trust guidebooks for narrative interpretations, and I don't think I would regard them as gospel for gameplay tactics, either.
"Worse still, [Lightning] makes a terrible Sentinel, only possessing the ability to draw attacks and attempt to dodge rather than counter."
Dodging is better than countering, and she dodges (read: doesn't take any damage) a whopping fifty percent of the time. When she does take damage, Elude allows her to mitigate that damage just as much as Steelguard or Mediguard. The fact that she doesn't learn any other guarding stances means that she's always sure to defend this way, and this certainty will be a boon to you and your team.
"Snow is a terrible Medic, and cannot even Raise KO'd allies."
He may not learn Raise but he does learn Curasa, and his cast time is noticeably superior to both Lightning and Vanille. And Lightning can't even learn Curasa, despite majoring as a Medic!
"Sazh's main problem is that he is a lousy Commando, which means that he never shines when called upon to inflicted decisive damage."
This one I can't even fathom. Do you know what the Blitz attack is?

given the people who complain about ffxiii's combat tend to talk about auto-battle like its a mandatory function, i'm curious as to how much people (especially actual ffxiii fans) use it!
speaking for myself, i had fun using just auto-battle on my first playthrough, but when i did an all manual run for my second it was so much fun that i can't go back, even if pulling out auto would make finding elemental weaknesses easier lmao
(for the sake of this poll, using the "repeat" command does not count as auto-battle)

A few days ago, Georgia Van Cuylenburg (voice actress of Vanille) posted on her twitter that she worked on an acappella version of Final Fantasy XIII’s Dust to Dust.

I love that in Oerba "Dust to Dust" still plays in the background even during combat encounters, which makes fighting the Cie'th more emotional and a reminder that these monsters were humans before they turned to this more torturous fate than death, and the party may face the same fate.

It fell out of the sky. Quite violently, in fact! All of the fal'Cie that were used to construct and maintain it were either destroyed or rendered inert, and its human population was entirely reliant on those fal'Cie to provide necessities like light and food.
And just imagine the inherent energy crisis without Kujata. Or how war-torn places like Palumpolum would be after the l'Cie incursion of chapter seven. There are a lot of things to take into account here!
Could Cocoon have been made habitable again? It's not out of the question, but it would have taken a lot of time and resources to rebuild things so that they could function independently from the fal'Cie that were so thoroughly embedded in their society.
The thing is, would we want that to happen? At the end of the game, Cocoon and its crystal pillar were a monument to Fang and Vanille's sacrifice, the two of them enshrined at the center of that once-floating sphere. And it was so fitting, too, after the two of them said in the final chapter that they'd make Cocoon their home after it was all over.
They sure did, didn't they? And that was the end of our protagonists' journey: the use of Ragnarok as a means of rejecting their apocalyptic Focus, as a means of saving Cocoon.
If there was any place that should've been left abandoned and treated with reverence, it should have been Cocoon!

"the end of the protagonists' journey" Either this is a mis-translation of what was said, or the devs had some interesting ideas about the village of Oerba. The protagonists may have renewed their resolve at the end of chapter eleven, but that wasn't true for all of them lol Fang, and last I checked, some pretty significant things happened in the last two chapters of the game that I think would better qualify as the end of their journey. This reason just rings hollow to me.

I read this on FF Wiki and it's frustrating...
I kinda get the point of this but Oerba is so IMPORTANT it's the place where it all started and there should have been more about it before the war at least flashback or something.

The Sanctum ensures that there is no poverty on Cocoon. This really only makes sense given how Cocoon is meant to keep its human populace comfortable and complacent. It also explains how Lightning was able to raise her kid sister starting at the age of 15.
