The first rule of Hike Club is: you do talk about Hike Club. The second rule of Hike Club is: you DON'T HAVE to talk about Hike Club! Third rule of Hike Club: if someone yells “stop!”, goes limp, or taps out, the hike is over. Fourth rule: Only two pies to a hike
Parc Natural dels Ports, Catalunya - Part 2 I was close to running out of my 2.5 litres of water at this point and probably on the verge of seeing mirages of Wetherspoons. Then I found a refuge hidden in the woods with a gift of water waiting for me!
After a climb and a spectacular ridge walk I came down the other side of the mountains range. The other side was very different. During the climb the landscape was dry, and unforgiving. The other side was wooded and green, a bit cooler because of the shade but still hot.
At this point I was close to running out of my 2.5 litres of water and probably on the verge of seeing mirages of Wetherspoons. Then, as if by magic, I found a refuge hidden in the woods with a gift of water waiting for me! That was enough to get me back to the car.
Parc Natural dels Ports, Catalunya - part 1. 27.07.18
Wild bulls, eagles and exhausting heat. I didn’t see another person apart from an old man in a cowboy hat outside his home where I parked the car. Spectacular views!
I didn’t see any wild bulls, only a wild cow and calf running out of a cave. At one point I dislodged a stone as I walked over it. The sound of it rolling behind me sounded (to me) like a bull charging and I braced myself ready to throw myself into a bush.
I also spotted about 10 eagles/birds of prey circling above me, and a solitary Ibex. There were also hundreds of bugs, mainly crickets (cicadas?), buzzy things, and lots of butterflies. I was surprised I wasn’t bitten more than I was.
Snowdon, the long way. Part 3 Spectacular walk taking in two peaks, starting with Moel Cynghorion before joining the Ranger Path up to Snowdon’s peak. Weather started clear for the most part until we reached the summit of Snowdon when we got about 10 minutes of clear views before the storm clouds rolled in. Needless to say, the descent was a bit on the soggy side. Very busy at the summit! Lots of people didn’t seem to have waterproofs. And we saw some Masons starting out as we were finishing, heading straight into the eye of the storm.
