But seriously, was that her inspiration?

Do you think Garp ever told Ace about Baterilla, about the island out in the South Blue that was Ace's birthplace? Do you think Ace ever visited that place during his travels? Do you think he avoided it for so long because he just couldn't right now, until one day he had to just before he left for the New World to finally take on Whitebeard? Do you think Ace found the town he was born in and his mother lived in? Explored every nook and cranny of a place that, in a different world, could've been his hometown? A place he would know like the back of his hand like Mt. Colubo and Foosha Village? Do you think Ace would evenutally find his mother's grave in the town graveyard, the headstone baring her name and the dates she was born and died on? That it's Ace's own damn birthday staring back at him forever carved on stone? Because I do. I think about Ace standing there for hours, the sun once high in the sky now slowling setting, looking at the grave of the woman who had the misfortune to meet Gol D. Roger. I think about Ace wanting to talk but not knowing what to say. Just what can he say anyway? Sorry for killing you? Sorry for being the reason you died? Sorry for being his son?
In the end, he just promises her that he will make her name remembered. He swears he will make the name Portgas even more famous than Gol. It's the least he can do for the woman who died birthing him into the world. Just imagine Ace finally meeting his mother after all these years, even if it's just a headstone and a body in the ground.

Garp Rant #11543
Because I'm something of a Certified Garp Hater/extremely obsessed with this man, and because Tumblr people seem to like my Garp takes and/or find them extremely pain-inducing, here's another one for funsies! Again, Garp is an incredibly written character and I massively enjoy his moral failings and human shortcomings, hence why I won't shut up about how much he sucks. So we all remember Garp crying in front of Ace during his imprisonment and awaiting his execution, lamenting the fact that his son and grandson could have maybe avoided this horrible horrible fate that awaits them at Marineford if they'd just become good marines like he'd tried to press them into. Every time he says it, he sounds more desperate, sadder, and angrier, like he's experiencing the stages of grief and going through denial, anger bargaining all at once, lashing out at his grandkids for supposedly causing him grief by defying his wishes, or maybe praying or wishing for a world where they could have followed in his footsteps and lived happily ever after. And when Ace hears that again at Impel Down, he says this:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Here's the thing though: Ace is unequivocally correct Garp should, by all rights, know this. He lived through the fallout of Roger's execution. He knew long before that exactly what would happen to Roger's loved ones and anyone the government could get their hands on who'd ever associated with him. Even before they started committing femicides/infanticides in Baterilla trying to end Roger's bloodline, he knew that the Marines were going to target completely innocent people in the name of purging the bloodline and cementing their "victory" over the greatest threat they'd ever faced. He specifically had to smuggle Rouge out of there so she could give birth to Ace, and all the while dozens of families were being brutalized by his peers and having their lives torn apart. That was the cost the Marines were willing to incur to kill a hypothetical infant, and years later, when that very same child is set to be executed, Sengoku goes on a remorseless public tirade about the necessity of killing babies and the horrible trickery and audacity Rouge displayed by dying so that they wouldn't kill her baby too.
Tumblr media
Garp knows every single piece of this information in painful, excruciating detail. He's so horrified by it he feels the need to fulfill this wish of Roger's because he knows blameless people will die. He has Ace raised in secret to protect him from Marines who are figuratively and literally out for his blood. And yet, throughout this boy's childhood, he clings to the notion that maybe, just maybe, the people he knows regularly commit atrocities, who have carried out at least 3 genocides that we know of in Garp's lifetime, who were willing to commit mass infanticide for a woman and child they hadn't verified the existence or identity of at the time, would have accepted him within their ranks and turned a blind eye to that information when it eventually, inevitably surfaced. That Ace can find salvation from the people who stole every loved one he ever had before he was even born, who slaughtered his mother's community and pushed her to her death, and were slavering at the opportunity to kill her. That even though Ace was born in direct opposition to them, has had a target trained on him before he was born, these people who tried so goddamn hard to kill him would surely welcome his presence and not murder him the second they found out if he could just be a compliant model soldier and make himself useful. It's hammered home pretty effectively–especially in the manga– and One Piece has never been known to be subtle in its messaging, but I swear to God I see so many people echoing the notion that Garp's attempts to force his grandchildren into serving the Evil Empire was done because he knew was their only shot at safety from the WG, and I fucking despise this take. Ace saying that he could never be a marine here in Impel Down isn't some young man's rationalization for his (beyond valid) desire not to subscribe to the preset path Garp laid out for him; it's literally the only logical conclusion if you know literally anything about the circumstances of his birth and upbringing, and Garp only thinks that the leopards wouldn't eat Ace's face because he's fucking delusional This in and of itself is extremely telling of how horribly warped Garp's perception of the Navy is, and how deeply he's willing to buy into the Marines and their warped propaganda no matter how many glaring examples he sees throughout his life that counter his worldview, but let's not forget that this applies to Luffy too. This is slightly hairier, in that if Luffy was a) the sort of person who could willingly accept a career in the marines and b) managed to cling really, really tightly to his grandfather's coattails and legacy, there might have been a very, infinitesimally small chance that he could have joined the Navy. The higher ups know that Dragon is Garp's son and therefore Luffy is Dragon's by logical inference, but I could see some AU where Luffy is a fundamentally different person and manages to build himself up in the Navy if not for two things I think warrant examination. It's pretty evident, and Dragon explicitly confirms, that Luffy being known as his son would have put him in incredible danger, only feeling comfortable with acknowledging it and the possibility of actually reuniting with his child after Luffy was both publicly recognized due to factors beyond his control, and proved that he was more than capable of holding his own. But I want to draw attention to this one otherwise pretty silly little gag moment between Garp and Sengoku when they learn that Luffy's broken into Impel Down, and present a theory that's kind of a reach but also not really
Tumblr media
Now the phrasing here kind of interests me, in that it ties back to earlier demonstrated patterns that the Navy uses repeatedly in collective punishment for the families and loved ones of their primary targets. Rouge and Ace barely escaped the mass murders intended for them because of their connection, but Tom was also originally sentenced to death for having had a connection to Roger, and ultimately chose that as the offence he wanted to be sentenced for at Enies Lobby. Law, as a child survivor of Flevance, has multiple hospitals try and turn him in to the World Government to be killed when Cora tries to find someone to treat him because their policy is to pull out the roots and salt the earth whenever they deem a person or population politically inconvenient. Robin's flashback shows us Akainu blowing up a refugee boat on the off chance that one of those people that they were planning to evacuate might have gotten past their initial screening for archaeologists/poneglyph readers. At Marineford, Akainu specifically targets Luffy not because of his prior offences or even his attempt to rescue Ace, but because he's Dragon's son and his and Roger's bloodlines need to be eradicated. This is not an institution that is in any way reluctant to destroy anyone tangentially affiliated to a designated enemy, and Luffy being the son of the worst criminal in history seems to put him right in line with all of those other cases. In light of this, and Garp's massive blind spots and wishful thinking regarding his peers and employers, it's not that much of a stretch to assume that the only reason Garp's exempt from being targeted like Dragon is because of his popularity/symbolic importance/utility, and that Luffy likely wouldn't have been safe even if he weren't a pirate. Garp's circle of confidantes/friends in high places is powerful, but clearly there are factions (Akainu, Ryokugyu etc) that would be substantially less willing and who are given preferential treatment by the Elders and Celestial Dragons. There might be something to read into based on the fact that Garp is the only known person from a D bloodline who's achieved massive success in service to the World Government and not defected from the Navy after realizing its true nature (props to Saul), and therefore he might project the fact that he's been rewarded by the system despite being a "sworn enemy of the Gods" onto his family, but that still doesn't account for the massive, delusional arrogance he displays in insisting that, despite everything–especially, especially the murders committed in pursuit of Ace, that robbed him of his birth mother and community–the Navy is the best and safest place for either of those boys. TLDR Garp not wanting his grandsons to have a bounties on their heads is one thing, but it says a lot that in spite of everything he knows, he's willing/determined to put Ace and Luffy in an environment that's extremely dangerous for them –and in Ace's case 100%, unquestionably fatal– because he's so convinced that compliance and the platonic ideals of "justice" and military service/hard work being rewarded by the system could supersede all of that.

featuring : gn!reader + Zoro, Mihawk and Ace

Tumblr media
Roronoa Zoro
His heart suddenly beats more rapidly whenever he sees you smiling, laughing, or even doing the most random thing. On top of that, Sanji's overly complimentary remarks towards you make him want to reach for his swords. No, this can't be. He's stared death down a thousand times, cut through countless enemies. Yet, this new feeling blooming for you – it's terrifying.
Zoro coming to terms with his feelings for you? Buckle up, because it's going to be a hilarious journey. Denial will be his middle name for a while, trust me. This dense swordsman will be in for a wild ride before he finally connects the dots.
Thanks to Nami's interrogation skills (and a little sake), the whole crew knows Zoro has a thing for you. Now, expect endless teasing from Luffy and Usopp, who'll probably try to spill the beans before a certain mosshead gives them his best glare.
Zoro finally figuring out his feelings for you? Great! Now comes the real test: talking to you about them. Because let's be honest, under that tough-guy act, he is probably a nervous wreck, sweating bullets at the thought of rejection.
Zoro's not exactly the Romeo type. So expect a confession that's straightforward, maybe a bit awkward – but heartfelt nonetheless. If you feel the same, a weight will lift from his shoulders. But if not, he'll respect your decision and try to keep things smooth between you.
Tumblr media
Dracule Mihawk
Don't be fooled by Mihawk's stoic facade – because he is quite aware of his feelings for you. Years have honed his instincts, and unlike his pupil, he has no time (and he is too old) for childish denial. His emotions are clear, even if unspoken.
That man has a very calculating mind. He'll dissect every interaction, every glance, searching for a sign that you love him as mush as he loves you. Despite his solitary nature, his mind might already be constructing a future by your side – a future dependent on your response.
Mihawk is probably one of the few men in One Piece who are very romantic (Oda told me so). His brand of romance is subtle yet charming. Imagine leisurely strolls through his gardens or watching the sunset with a glass of wine by his side. A subtle offer of his arm, a hint of a blush from you – that might be all the encouragement he needs to take things a step further.
Once confident your feelings mirror his own, Mihawk will approach things in an (VERY) old-fashioned way. Be prepared for a carefully crafted dinner invitation, where he can formally request the honor of courting you. His pride lies in being a gentleman, and rushing into things is simply not his style. He prefers to court you slowly and respectfully, allowing your relationship to develop naturally.
After a series of thoughtful dates, Mihawk will finally take the next step and ask you to be his partner (Perona and Zoro might have placed a bet on the timeline, of course). Like everything he does, Mihawk will approach this new chapter with utmost seriousness. Your well-being will always be his top priority.
Tumblr media
Portgas D. Ace
Ace isn't the denial type. The ache when you're gone, the quiet competition with Marco and Izo for your laughter – these are the clues that tip him off. Ace falling for you? It's written all over his flustered face. He stutters and turns red like a tomato when speaking to you unexpectedly.
The entire crew is a nuisance and teases him constantly about his love for you. They have grilled him mercilessly – “When will you confess?” they ask, convinced you feel the same.
Denial ? Once again, not Ace's style. But baring his heart, admitting his love for you ? That's a terrifying vulnerability he fears more than anything. On top of that, I believe he is also afraid of losing your friendship by making things awkward if you don't feel the same about him.
Thankfully, Marco, ever the voice of reason, is there to guide this lovestruck dummy. And honestly, this old man is tired of watching you two pining from afar. A stern talk from Marco might be just what Ace needs to understand that silence could lead to a missed opportunity for a great relationship.
Ace's confession? A masterpiece in the making, at least in his head. Daily mirror pep talks and a meticulously planned romantic gesture – that's how he plans to declare his love. Just imagine the blushing, the stammering, the potential for minor explosions (caused by Ace's nervousness, of course).
Dinner over, Ace reaches for something hidden in his pocket. His nervousness is palpable, a sheen of sweat forming on his brow. But then, with a determined glint in his eye, he throws caution (and the letter) to the wind, ready to confess his true feelings directly from the heart.

The best thing about OPLA is that they decided to focus on the friendship aspect of the crew and executed it perfectly.
They talk about their past, they share intimate fears, they are open about how much they care for each other - and that's so refreshing!
The scene where Usopp asked them if they think Kaya actually likes him? Him getting visibly hurt when Luffy mentions his dad?
The one when they send Zoro to talk to Luffy about Garp, because they can tell he's upset?
The whole sequence before and after Zoro fought Mihawk? Nami being concerned to the point of crying? Her reading him stories while he was unconscious and getting mad at Luffy for letting it happen? Her calling him a friend after she said she never had one?
The way Luffy was worrying about him so much that he refused to eat and asked Sanji to make Zoro's favorite food for when he wakes up? How hard it was for him to start talking and how easy it was to admit that he needs Zoro?
Sanji defending Nami even when all of the evidences were against her? Luffy proudly saying she's their friend?
That scene with Nojiko where Usopp calls Sanji the best cook?
The banter between Sanji and Zoro that starts from the moment Sanji first speaks and keeps going even as they fight back-to-back?
We get a glimpse of those things in anime and manga, but it's never this raw. The amount of hugging and touching and overall closeness? How Nami and Zoro get annoyed by it in the beginning and how it brings a more prominent smile the more it happens?
I'm so glad they pushed that narrative instead of trying to directly translate the plot for the 3rd time.

𝗭𝗼𝗿𝗼 | 𝗣𝗶𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴
pairing : Zoro x gn!reader
warning : one-sided love (oops)
masterlist
Tumblr media
As a new member of the Straw Hat Pirates, you found yourself constantly observing the crew's dynamics. One thing that particularly struck you was Zoro's temperament. His calm exterior and occasional bursts of ferocious fighting spirit were a fascinating combination to witness. Self-doubt sometimes crept in, but Zoro always had a way of lifting your spirits. Whether it was a word of encouragement, a silent gesture of support, or simply his unwavering confidence, he knew how to chase away your worries.
You couldn't resist stealing glances at Zoro whenever he trained. The rhythmic clang of his swords echoed through the air. His muscles rippled beneath his worn shirt, each swing infused with a passion. It was as if his swords were an extension of himself. His grueling training sessions always ended with a surprising sight: Zoro sprawled out in a peaceful slumber. The fiercest swordsman on the seas reduced to a softly snoring giant - it was a sight that never failed to amuse you.
But one day, will you were watching the young swordsman, Robin caught you by surprise. « Those lingering glances you steal at Zoro, (Y/N), » she said with a knowing smile, « they seem to hold a deeper meaning than mere curiosity ».
Robin's words hung in the air. You knew your daydreams about Zoro weren't just friendly admiration. But admitting it, facing the vulnerability of rejection, sent a tremor of fear through you. Pride, that stubborn shield you held so tightly, threatened to suffocate the budding feelings you desperately tried to suppress.
The unpredictability of pirate life wasn’t really compatible with the romantic illusions you dreamed about. For now, you valued Zoro's unwavering friendship above all else, keeping your deeper feelings carefully guarded.

Tumblr media Tumblr media
pairing : Luffy x gn!reader
warning : Luffy being annoying in a funny way
Tumblr media
Luffy doesn’t care if you give him permission to eat the food you’re preparing, he will eat it no matter what. You are testing a new sauce ? He will drink half of it. You are making a cake to celebrate a new victory with the crew ? He will pester you to eat the dough.
Sanji tries to keep Luffy out of the kitchen to prevent him from bothering you, but it's a losing battle. As soon as he smells anything edible, he's already trying to eat it.
Your culinary creations aren't the only targets. If you're enjoying a tasty snack, expect Luffy to be hovering nearby, eyes fixated on your food and a rumble echoing from his stomach.
A craving for yakitori struck you one afternoon, and you decided to whip some up for you and your love.
As soon as Luffy heard you say the word « kitchen » he was already following you like your own shadow.
You were humming along, rhythmically chopping boneless chicken into bite-sized pieces, when a sudden presence loomed behind you. A startled gasp escapes your lips as an arm wraps around your waist. You glance back to find Luffy practically upside down, peering over your shoulder with a mischievous glint in his eyes.
“When's it gonna be done already? I'm starving!” he whimpered.
“Be patient, you idiot!” you said, banging his head with a kitchen ladle (lightly, of course).
“Ow! Y/N, you're so mean!” Luffy whined, rubbing his head dramatically with a pout. “But that won't stop me from eating soon, right?”
Luffy's appetite was legendary. No amount of pleading or threats could stop him when food was involved. But this time, you needed an honest opinion, and despite his reputation for recklessness, your lover was always brutally honest.
“Ugh, fine! You can have a bite… but only because I need your feedback on this new recipe. Don't blame me if it's not perfect yet!”
The mere mention of food was enough to set Luffy off. A guttural growl escaped his throat, and a sheen of anticipation formed over his eyes. You swore you could see tiny cartoon meat dancing in their depths.
You carefully placed a steaming piece of grilled chicken on a plate and set it in front of Luffy. The savory aroma filled the air, and his eyes gleamed with anticipation. “Alright, Luffy,” you said with a smile, “what do you think? How does it taste?”
Luffy devoured the chicken eagerly, his eyes twinkling with delight. “Mmmmm, this is amazing!” Luffy exclaimed, eyes sparkling. “Can I have another one already, Y/N?” He tilted his head innocently.
“Alright, alright, but only if you can tell me what kind of peppers I used in the marinade!” You replied with a teasing grin on your face.

Sabo [ A+H : sfw alphabet]
sfw headcannons with sabo
alphabet template
Tumblr media
A = Affection (How affectionate are they? How do they show affection?)
Sabo craves quality time more than most. Perhaps it stems from a childhood starved of genuine affection from his parents or his own experience with his brothers. Whatever the reason, being by your side fulfills him in a way nothing else can. Whether it's the thrill of exploring new territories together, the quiet satisfaction of working on reports, or the adrenaline rush of fighting alongside you, his happiness thrives on shared experiences. As long as he's connected to you, engaged in a shared purpose, it feels like everything falls into place.
He is extremely affectionate in private. After a long journey, he'll pull you close, spooning you with a sigh of contentment. As you drift off to sleep, you'll hear him whisper his admiration for you, his voice husky with exhaustion and love.
H = Hugs (Do they like hugs? How often do they do it? What are their hugs like?)
Unlike Ace, he doesn't crave constant physical touch. However, hugs hold a special meaning for him. After long stretches of time apart, a hug becomes a powerful way to reconnect and feel close again. Similarly, when he's feeling vulnerable or unsure of himself, a hug acts as a source of comfort and reassurance. It's a silent way of saying "I'm here for you" and offering him the emotional security he craves in those moments.
Initiating physical touch might not be his first instinct, but when he does hug you, it's a revelation. His devil fruit imbues his embrace with a warmth that seeps deep into your bones. It's a silent promise of protection, a way of wrapping you in his strength without a word needing to be spoken. And then there's his playful side. Gentle kisses peppered along your neck are a sure sign he's feeling particularly affectionate. It's a delicious brand of teasing, a prelude to something more, or simply a way to show his affection.

It’s been a while…
College has been really tough lately, but I'm back! I've started rewatching Bleach and might write something because the lack of contents on Tumblr is frustrating (Is the fandom still active?).
For one piece I have a lot of headcanons in my drafts, they might appear on my blog some day…
I've also decided to make some changes. I've updated my blog and username, so you can now find me at @hericaslibrary. My requests are open, so feel free to send me some!
