Chapter 9 of Cost of Canon has been posted. https://archiveofourown.org/works/47933326/chapters/130073863… Yo, this is the big climax of my fic, so if you haven't let me know what you think/comment/or kudos, I'd really appreciate it on this chapter via ao3. <3 I put everything i had into this one. bye all <3
Chapter Snippet:
THEN
Peter had heard the cry for help before Gabi had. He was on his feet, rushing to the bathroom, as she followed him. He'd done his best to convince her that her Dad was merely ill, but her pale expression told him she was more concerned than any child should be.
"Miguel?" Peter knocked on the door. They had a rule for going through this detox — no locked doors.
No answer.
Peter slowly raised a hand, preventing Gabi from coming closer. The air under the bathroom door came hot, the fan ran loudly, and yet Peter could not hear Miguel on the other side.
"Gabi, I think you —"
Peter shoved her back down the hall before he could say another word. The door to the bathroom burst off its hinges, sending splinters flying. Gabi cried out as she hit the tiles, and Peter exerted a pained grunt as ten long talons dug into his chest.
Miguel had thrown himself through the bathroom door, pinning Peter to the adjacent hallway wall.
"Miguel!”
He did not respond. Miguel's eyes were wide, ravaged with red and ill-intent. He bent over Peter, digging in deeper to secure him like a wall hanging to the plaster.

Author notes: Chapters moving forward will be monthly-ish, as I've mostly run out of my backlog. So if you think a chapter is a while coming, it's not an abandoned fic, just a slow process.
Chapter Snippet:
"Miguel," Peter said, reaching forward. "We need to get you help."
"No." Miguel turned to face Peter.
His gaze was weary and heavy with bags. Even in the low light, Peter could see the intense red glow of his eyes.
"You need help."
"Funny, that coming from you," Miguel said, leaning his weight to stabilise himself against the bathroom sink.
"I don't have a kid," Peter said intently.
"You would," Miguel mumbled, and Peter glared, both alarmed and curious. "You do. If you stayed with MJ," Miguel kept talking, as though unaware Peter was standing before him. "You just need to go back to her."
"That's not going to happen."
"Then you're going to die."

I’m so moved by @heavybreathingcatt ‘s digiboys that sometimes I totally forget they’re not in the canon and… sigh… We’re missing out. They’re good boys.

Chapter 6 for my Spider Dads fic Cost of Canon is out. Special thanks to @MitsuMango on Twitter for helping out with the Spanish and any cultural questions I throw their way :D It's so appreacited!
Chapter Snippet:
Peter had taken too long to respond, and the silence that prevailed crushed over Peter as though he were back in his studio bathroom — a place he so desperately and regularly needed to escape from. Peter returned to pulling at the thread in his pocket and did the only thing he was accustomed to in awkward situations. He talked.
"Yeah, so... You said not to come — like ever. But weird thing, hey? Got this distress call on the watch-eo-thingy. So... I came. Yeah. I'm here."
Miguel said nothing. He simply stared at Peter as though he'd just arrived by walking on water.
"That's why I'm here," Peter said slowly, as though Miguel had not heard him and judging by his expression, he hadn't.
"Peter," Miguel said and appeared almost pale. "You're…"
Peter waited while Miguel stared ahead, lost: the expression so surreal upon his usually stern features.
"I'm?" Peter raised a brow. The waiting was painful. Miguel spoke slowly at the best of times, and now after months of no word, every syllable from Miguel's mouth was both precious and agonising.
"— Here… You're here. Right." Miguel shifted awkwardly in the door as though unsure whether to open it further or close it behind him. "Of course you would be."
Peter stood quiet in bewilderment. Miguel was mumbling. He never mumbled.

Chapter 5 of Cost of Canon is now posted! You can read it on Ao3
Chapter Snippet:
It was always going to end like this.
Peter gripped his neck so tight that his nails ripped the skin.
First, it was the other Miguel, then him, and now you.
Peter swore aloud and leaned forward, resting his head against his knees.
They all have this in them. This fury. This animal instinct to hunt.
A violent shiver tore up Peter's spine, and he shoved a hand over his mouth to smother a whine. The pain in his neck was rippling across his body, causing his hands to clench and his legs to tremble. His body could not fight off the venom.
He knew what Miguel was capable of. He'd seen it: All of it.
The venom must have reached his mind, and the colour of the car park swung to a sickening red, like the blood that painted the pavement of the dying Miguel. Peter was forced to watch it all again. How the dying man's eyes strained, making the brown of his iris contrast greatly with the red vessels.
The flickering lights slowed down to a rhythmic beat: pulsing at a heart's rate. Peter buried his head into his knees; though his eyes were closed, he could still see — still sense — the world around him.
Everything was red, and he wanted to scream.
Instead, Peter drew a long, pained breath and slammed his fist to the ground. It made contact with the growing puddle of blood and splashed at his sides.
