SUMMARY: Sanghoon finds a breath of fresh air with Hak Bonghwaâs daughter and HBH producer-in-training, Hak Subin.
SERIES: NEW_DECADE
PAIRING: Sanghoon + Subin
WORD COUNT: 1.3kÂ
WARNINGS: Swear words!
Sanghoon wouldnât say that he has the best pokerface, but he surely is better at hiding his emotions than Hak Subin.Â
Hak Bonghwaâs only daughter sat in a third chair off to the side while the two main producers at HBH, Fren.z and LeeBoi, worked at the soundboard. Sanghoon was squeezed into the recording booth with Yeetai, Longwei, and Taehyung. Sanghoon didnât think that chanting one verse together would take this long, but theyâve been recording this same part for thirty minutes. He himself was starting to get agitated, Subin looked straight up homicidal.Â
âYou guys need more energy.â LeeBoi critiqued into the microphone.
Subin snorted. âTheyâd have more energy if you gave them a break to rest their vocal cords.â Her statement was overheard through the speaker, but neither of the producers acknowledged the commentary.
âLetâs try it from the top. Remember, more energy.â LeeBoi talked over Subin, ignoring her like usual. Subin rolled her eyes and played with the ends of her hair, her frown somehow drooping more than before.
The recording finally ended when Fren.zâs alarm went off. Their time in the recording studio was up. The trainees exited the studio, thanking all three producers as they passed.
When Taehyung dipped into a bow for Subin, Fren.z chuckled dryly.
âSheâs younger than you, Taehyung. No need to break your back in half.â He laughed. Subin narrowed her eyes at the older producer, giving him a look so icy it made Sanghoonâs eyebrow twitch. Taehyung let out a weak chuckle before leading the other boys out of the studio.
âGod, theyâre awful to her.â Taehyung whispered as soon as they left. âI should have stood up for her, shouldnât I?âÂ
âNah, Subin can fight her own battles.â Longwei reassured his friend, giving the other trainee a clap on the back. A mischievous smirk spread on his face. âI bet she appreciated that adequate bow, though.âÂ
âShh.â Taehyung chuckled, rolling his eyes. âI had to show my appreciation somehow.â
The four boys made their way to the elevator, taking it back up to Trainee Town to complete their training for the day.
When most of the trainees filed out of the practice rooms, Sanghoon decided to stay behind. Lately the stress of showcases, trainee events, and upcoming debut team announcements has been getting to him. He wanted to take some time to do what he really loved: creating his own music.
He knew that all studios were free after three. He took the elevator down to The Dungeons alone, his bags slung over his shoulder. Heâd only stay until four, then heâd head to the dorms and get some shut eye before another day of practice.Â
Sanghoon headed to his favorite recording studio, the Green Room, at the very end of the hall. As he walked down the hallway, he heard a familiar beat coming from the Red Studio. He slowed his pace, wondering if Fren.z or LeeBoi were still here. Sanghoon contemplated turning back just to avoid any awkward encounter with the producers, but then he heard a feminine sounding growl of annoyance.Â
The trainee furrowed his eyebrows and glanced into the studio. At the soundboard was Subin, running her hands through her platinum hair. Suddenly, Subin wheeled the chair she was in back, turning around sharply. Sanghoon and Subin made eye contact, both of them jumping in surprise.Â
Subin, with a hand still over her racing heart, opened the door.
âSanghoon, donât do that again.â Subin sighed, but the corner of her mouth twitched upward ever so slightly into a ghost of a grin.
âSorry⌠I justâŚâ Sanghoon fumbled for the words.
âNo worries, man.â Subin shook her head. âI get sketched out after three anyways. Yâknow, witching hour and shit.âÂ
âYeah,â Sanghoonâs fingers fidgeted with the straps of his bags. He spends so much physical time with Subin that he forgets that they donât really know each other. At all. He wasnât quite sure how to respond to his bossâs daughter.Â
âWhat were you working on?â Sanghoon asked, his eyes darting to the soundboard that Subin was previously sat at.
âOh, yeah,â Subin looked over her shoulder at the equipment. âThe demo you guys recorded earlier sounded like ass once Tweedle Dick and Tweedle Dumbass layered it onto the backtrack. Iâve been trying to fix it, but they created a monster.âÂ
Subin looked back and Sanghoon with a small grin on her face. âWanna hear what Iâve got?âÂ
Sanghoon felt like rejecting the founderâs daughter was not a good idea, so he nodded. Subin let him step into the studio, offering the spare chair next to her at the soundboard.
âSee, this is what it sounded like before I got my grimy little hands on it,â Subin pressed play on her computer. The song that they had recorded earlier sounded so manufactured. So bland. Sanghoonâs dislike seemed to have shown on his face, because Subin clapped her hands together and cackled.Â
âSee? Itâs booty isnât it?â She asked.
âYeah, that sucks.â Sanghoon agreed. Subin chuckled before typing on her computer again.
âAlright, but now this,â She pressed play. âIs how I think it should sound.âÂ
Subinâs version was much better. There was more dimension, more personality. She kept the more messier recordings of them chanting rather than the robotic and uniform chant the other producers preferred. The track sounded exciting and fresh.
Sanghoon tapped his fingers to the beat. As good as it was, it was missing something.
âUh-oh,â Subin turned the volume down. âYou donât like something?âÂ
âNo, no. It sounds great. Really great. ButâŚâ Sanghoon tried to search for the words.
âSomethingâs missing, right?â Subin asked.
âYeah.â Sanghoon nodded. âI think you need some like⌠Adlibs or something.âÂ
Subin nodded. Her eyes darted to the empty recording booth, then back at Sanghoon.
âYouâre a rapper, right?â She asked.
âYeah.â
âDo you think you could improv some cool adlibs?â She asked, a smirk appearing on her face.
Sanghoonâs plan to stay until four was tossed out the window once he and Subin started bouncing ideas off one another. Even if Sanghoon noticed how late it was, he couldnât bring himself to leave. He really enjoyed spending time with Subin. She was chill and took things so simply. Being around Subin was like taking a break from reality, and Sanghoon wasnât ready to return back just yet. It was nearing five in the morning when Subin finally recognized how late they had stayed.Â
âHoly hell, look at the time.â Subin gasped, holding up her cellphone. âWe should probably go. You have practice in a few hours.âÂ
âDonât remind me.â Sanghoon groaned.
âHey, debut announcements come out soon. Hopefully youâll only be a trainee for a little while longer.â Subin comforted him. âJust enjoy the ride. Soon youâll be looking back on your trainee days with nostalgia.âÂ
Sanghoon nodded, taking in her advice. He was just about to leave when a realization hit him.
âHey, are you walking home alone?â Sanghoon paused in the doorway.
Subin chuckled. âDo I really look that weak?â
âNo, but Iâll still walk you to the subway or something.â Sanghoon shifted his bag awkwardly.Â
The producer pouted. âYouâre cute, Sanghoon. But donât worry about it. Iâm ordering an Uber to come pick me up in a few. Itâll be right outside the company, donât you worry.â
âOkay. Cool.â Sanghoon nodded, shifting his weight on his feet. âI guess Iâll see you tomor- in a few hours, then?âÂ
Subin grinned. âYeah. Iâll see you soon. Sweet dreams.â
âYou too.â Sanghoon smiled before closing the door to the studio. He felt as if he had just jumped between worlds. Everything felt a little dazed to Sanghoon as he made it to the elevators, exiting the building on the main floor. As he crossed the street to the subway station, he couldnât help but daydream about making regular late night visits to the recording studios.

SUMMARY: Songgye makes friends with someone he never thought heâd talk to: Hoyong.Â
SERIES: NEW DECADE [HBHT20]
GENRE: Blooming friendship, some emotional stuff too.
PAIRING: Platonic!Songgye + Hoyong
WORD COUNT: 1.5k
WARNINGS: none? if you can spot anything that might be triggering, let me know!
A/N: this oneâs a long one. I just really wanted to build up Songgye and Hoyongâs characters & got carried away. Enjoy!
Songgye wondered if his patience had melted as he gained years or if these kids were extra annoying.Â
âIf you angle your head like that, Iâm not going to be able to get a clear shot!â Kyungchul, who was supposed to be the leader of their practice, whined to his friend Hoyong.Â
âDude, what do you wanna do? Hold my cheeks?â Hoyong rolled his eyes. âYou can make it, just use your lungs to propel the air.âÂ
âAlright... You canât yell at me if I get water on your shirt though.â Kyungchul prefaced before bringing his water bottle up to his mouth, tipping his head back. Once his cheeks were filled with water, Hoyong opened his mouth wide, squatting a little bit. Then Kyungchul did the grossest thing Songgye has ever witnessed. Kyungchul spit the water out from his mouth in a fountain-like curve, the water splattering into Hoyongâs mouth.Â
Daisuke let out a low âoohâ of amazement, his cellphone recording the whole thing. Longwei chuckled and stopped stretching to watch the horrific act. Was Songgye the only one deeply disturbed right now?Â
Jaehwa cleared his throat, causing Kyungchul to stop abruptly, spilling some water down his chin.Â
âKyungchul, maybe we should resume practice.â Jaehwa advised. Kyungchul wiped the water from his chin and swallowed whatever water was left over.Â
âRight.â Kyungchul clapped his hands together and rubbed them anxiously, just now realizing that the attention on him carried a different weight now that the show was over. âLetâs uh... Letâs do Mirotic again.âÂ
âGood idea.â Jaehwa smiled. Jaehwa moved towards his position and everyone else followed in suit.Â
After running through the routine for Mirotic several more times, putting emphasis on the parts they struggled with the most, Jaehwa finally suggested to Kyungchul that they end for the night. Kyungchul then dismissed everyone.Â
Songgye, on the other hand, was not going to go back to the dorms with everyone else. He wasnât able to focus when all of them were practicing together. There was just too much going on. He wanted some alone time to really get the moves down.
When the other boys left, Songgye started the music up again, breaking down one step at a time. He was about an hour into practice when the door opened. Surprised, Songgye jumped back, halting his movements. In the doorway was a messy-haired Hoyong.Â
âJesus,â Songgye placed a hand over his heart. âYou scared me.âÂ
âSorry! Iâll practice next door! Sorry!â Hoyong bowed several times as he backed out of the practice room, closing the door behind him. Songgye shook his head, but resumed his practice.
Only thirty minutes had passed when Hoyong stuck his head into the practice room again, a sheepish smile on his face.
âHey, hyung...?â Hoyong called out from the doorway. Songgye sighed, stopping his movements again.Â
âYes?â
âCan I practice in here with you?â Hoyong asked, his voice a little higher pitched than normal.
âWhatâs wrong with the other room?â Songgye asked, only realizing how rude his tone was after the words left his mouth.Â
âNothing! I just... Itâs late and being alone in that big practice room... The lights sometimes get a little wonky, you know?â Hoyong hesitated. Songgye let out another huff of air. Unfortunately he knows exactly what Hoyong was talking about. The practice room next door was lit a little dimmer and always seemed a little gloomy at night.Â
âYeah, I know.â Songgye nodded. âCome on in.âÂ
Hoyong exhaled deeply, like he was holding his breath this whole time. The younger boy scurried in, closing the door behind him. He placed his stuff on the opposite end of the wall from Songgyeâs belongings. Then he took over the other side of the dance room, focusing on his own routine.
Another hour or so passed. Songgye had practiced not only the HBHT20B routine, but the two other routines he had to know for HBHT936 and HBHT1314. Exhausted and sweaty, Songgye waved goodnight to Hoyong, who was still practicing, before heading to the showers.Â
Songgye sighed contently as the warm water hit his sore muscles. He started humming the tune to Mirotic, having it be stuck in his head after listening to it all day.Â
âJogeum dachyeodo neon, kwaenchanha Oh,â Songgye sang, lathering shampoo into his hair.
âNeon nareul wonhae, neon naege ppajyeo,â Another voice sang along with his own. Songgye froze, his blood turning cold with shock. He slowly peeled back the curtain. Sitting on the sink, kicking his feet and still singing along, was Hoyong.
âHoyong.â Songgye frowned, arching an eyebrow. Hoyong stopped singing, his legs still swinging back and forth.
âYes, hyung?â
âWhat are you doing?â
âWaiting for you...â Hoyong gave a weak smile.
âWhy?â Songgye asked bluntly.
Hoyong sighed, looking up at the ceiling. âIâm hungry and I want to go get something to eat at a convince store, but Iâm afraid of the dark. And itâs not like thereâs anything good at the dorm because Taehyung went shopping this week and he only buys whole grain things. If I wasnât afraid of the dark I would already be at the convince store by now but Iâm terrified and youâre like, six feet tall and strong so you feel safe to walk with at night because I donât think anyone would mess with you. Me on the other hand...â Hoyong finally looked back at Songgye. âI have a perm.â
Songgye bit his lip. After a speech like that, he couldnât turn the kid down.Â
âFine. Give me five seconds to wash my hair.â Songgye offered.
âSure. Iâll wait here.â Hoyong resumed his leg kicking, humming TVXQ under his breath.
Songgye has never seen anyone inhale tteokbokki so fast in his life. He was convinced he was going to have to reach across the picnic table and give Hoyong the Heimlich maneuver any second now. But Hoyong seemed to be very skilled in shoveling rice cakes into his mouth. He didnât even cough once. In about five minutes, the empty cup of tteokbokki was placed down on the table with a dull thud.
âWoo!â Hoyong grinned. âThat was so good. You should have gotten some, hyung.âÂ
âNah, Iâm fine.â Songgye pursed his lips. In all honesty, he just wanted to go home so he could get some shut eye before practice in six hours.
âWhatever you say.â Hoyong shrugged, standing up from the picnic bench. âI know Iâve been really annoying tonight. You were really nice to me though. Thank you.âÂ
âYeah, itâs nothing.â Songgye shook his head, standing up as well. Hoyong tilted his head at the older trainee, his eyes scanning over the facial features that were illuminated by the street lights above them.
âWhat?â Songgye asked.
âYou seem sad.âÂ
âJust tired.â Songgye insisted.
âNo, like... You have that look on your face all the time.â Hoyong frowned. âLike, even when youâre hanging around Jaehwa and Saito.â
Songgye hesitated. Suddenly the younger boy seemed a little bit more intimidating now that he was analyzing him. He shifted his weight, debating on whether he should just start walking home or not.
Then Hoyong exhaled. âSometimes I feel like that too. Like, grey.âÂ
âGrey.â Songgye repeated the word. He had a hard time believing that this little ball of light ever felt dulled, especially compared to his previous actions of the day.
âYeah. Like you feel like you sink into the background, like no one sees you, or cares, or understands.â Hoyong shrugged, looking at the ground. âYou just gotta remember that loneliness is a choice. Someoneâs always going to listen. You just have to, like, find them.â
Songgye let the sudden dump of emotion sit there for a moment, unsure what to do with it. Heâs never been good at comforting or conversing about ones emotions.
Hoyong snapped himself out of it, straightening up instantly. âWe should head back. Iâm getting sleepy. Iâm sure youâre even more tired than I am.âÂ
The two finally made it home safe and sound. Hoyong was right, no one did mess with Songgye, except for maybe Hoyong himself. Besides the jumbled mess the younger had left Songgyeâs brain in after psycho analyzing him outside the convince store, Hoyong had tried to make Songgye laugh the whole way home.Â
When they reached the dorms, it was almost four in the morning. They had to wake up for practice in about four hours.Â
âDo you want me to walk with you to your room or can you handle going down the dark hallway?â Songgye asked, not intending for the question to come out as condescending as it did. Thankfully, Hoyong didnât notice.
âI can do it. Thanks though.â Hoyong whispered with a grin. âIâll see you in the morning, or uh, in a few hours.âÂ
âGood night, Hoyong.â Songgye whispered. Just as he turned on his heel, he heard Hoyong hiss his name again.Â
âHyung?â
âYeah, Hoyong?âÂ
âI may be younger and act childish, but I can handle a lot.â Hoyong spoke into the darkness. âIâm good at being a friend.â
Songgyeâs eyes widened and he was once again at a loss of words. He swallowed thickly and nodded his head before realizing that Hoyong couldnât see him in the dark. âThank you, Hoyong. Iâll keep that in mind. Goodnight.âÂ
âGoodnight.â Â

NEW_DECADE [EP_9]
SUMMARY: Erii, Saito, Daisuke and Kotori model for an online Japanese clothing store. Saito and Erii discuss dating scandals among HBHT20 members.Â
PAIRING: Platonic! Japanese Line
Erii placed her chin on Saitoâs shoulder, angling her neck upward and parting her lips slightly. Another flash of light. Erii blinked the dots away from her vision before changing up the position.
âHow about you wrap your arm around her shoulder?â The photographer suggested. âAnd give us some laughter.âÂ
Saitoâs eyes connected with Eriiâs, and two identical smiles stretched on their faces. Saito slipped an arm over Eriiâs shoulder and Erii couldnât help but burst out laughing. There was nothing funny at all, he hadnât even said anything to prompt the laughter. But when youâve been friends with someone for a very long time, eventually you just have random laughing fits for no reason.Â
Saito, forcing back laughter, spread his arms in confusion. âWhat did I do?â
âSorry, sorry!â Erii apologized, shaking her head and holding a hand out to the photographer. âIâm not sure why Iâm laughing, Iâm sorry.âÂ
âNo worries, that pose is actually cute. Saito, keep your arms out. Erii, try tilting your head back to the ceiling a little. Donât be afraid to let out some genuine laughter!â The photographer responded enthusiastically.Â
After a few more shots, the photographer called in Daisuke and Kotori. The younger kids stepped forward. Kotori and Daisuke were dressed in the same style as the other two, except Kotori was sporting a purple color scheme white Daisuke was in green. Erii was very thankful that they dressed Kotori in something age-appropriate. Her hidden mom mode was always turned on when she was around the younger Japanese girl.Â
âAw, lil Koko.â Saito grinned, patting the top of Kotoriâs head fondly. Kotori wrinkled her nose and dodged his touch, sending the crew into a chorus of laughs at the sass that the tall girl was exhibiting.Â
The four of them had a very fun shoot. There were shots involving them group hugging, which resulted in Kotori getting sandwiched between all of them. There was one where Erii and Saito were playing âtug of warâ with the sleeves of Kotoriâs sweater while Daisuke appeared to be shocked in the background. They also had shots where Kotori and Daisuke were getting pushed around in shopping carts, looking like they were about to collide.
When they were finally finished with group shots, the trio was able to view the previews. They huddled around a monitor with some other staff members, looking at an array of pictures that were taken.Â
âThis one looks like a family portrait.â Erii commented, pointing to one where Saito and Erii were standing next to each other while Kotori and Daisuke sat on stools in front of them. Eriiâs hand was on Kotoriâs shoulder, smiling brightly.Â
âBaby Koko!~â Saito teased, reaching over to give Kotoriâs cheek a pinch. Kotori moved away, sticking her tongue out. Erii chuckled, watching Saito pretend to be disgusted with Kotori. Saito rounded to give Daisuke some love, but Daisuke swiftly stepped backward, avoiding any personal touch.
After confirming that they were satisfied with the shoot, the three Japanese trainees were released. They thanked the staff before heading to their managerâs car.Â
Once inside the car, Erii checked her cellphone for the first time since the shoot started. The group chat with all her trainee friends in it was blowing up.Â
âJesus, I should have muted them.â Erii complained, showing Saito how many messages were popping up on her phone.Â
âWhatâs going on with them?â Saito asked out of curiosity.Â
âWho knows. Probably boy drama... Jiahâs been a little restless lately.â Erii shook her head, already feeling a headache coming on thinking about Jiahâs recent decisions.Â
âYeah... Longwei might have mentioned a thing or two about her.â Saito shared.
Erii shook her head again, this time in disappointment. Sheâs been a trainee for a long time and sheâs seen a lot of wild shit. None of it ever ended well. Her friend, Soyeon from Promise, slept around when she was a trainee and all that was exposed a couple years after her debut thanks to an ex-trainee that never liked her. Jiah isnât exactly the most likable person at HBH. If she isnât careful, someone would do the same to her.Â
âI think you and I are the only two trainees from HBHT15 who havenât let our hormones get the best of us.â Saito joked.Â
âHaeun hasnât slept around, has she?â Erii asked. Saito shrugged, furrowing his eyebrows.
âWhy would I know that? Iâm not a gossiper like you, Erii.â The man teased.Â
âIâm not a gossiper! Right, kids?â Erii looked over her shoulder to get the opinion of the younger trainees sitting behind her. Kotori and Daisuke both had earphones in, scrolling through their cellphones without even looking up.
âNevermind.â Erii shook her head, knowing better than to disrupt the 02 liners and their screen time.
Saito chuckled. âBut no, can we just talk about how many of our friends are fucking right now?â He asked.
âI thought you said you didnât gossip?â Erii teased.
âIâm also a liar. Câmon, you know me.â Saito shrugged. âAnyways, I cannot believe that Jiah is fucking not only Hanjae and Longwei, but Iâm pretty sure sheâs gonna start messing with Sanghoon too.âÂ
âSanghoon? He seems too innocent and nice to have a friends with benefits situation going on.â Erii contemplated.Â
âThink again. Heâs nice but he wants to get his dick wet just like any other boy his age.â Saito rolled his eyes.Â
âLike Yeetai?â Eriiâs grin quirked.Â
Saito hesitated, a smile forming on his face. âWait what do you know?âÂ
âNothing confirmed but... Have you seen him and Seolhee interact lately?â Erii asked. âTheyâre like in that stage where they donât get along but they clearly like each other, you know? Kinda like how elementary kids flirt.âÂ
âOh man.â Saito ran a hand over his face. âI told these fuckers when the season started: âdonât mess around with other trainees, it always ends badâ. Now I find out that my own son, the one I raised from when he was a wee baby, is going down the same path as other trainees before him.âÂ
âTragic, I know.â Erii sympathized with her friends dramatic distraught. Â
âAt least our maknaes are still pure.â Saito angled his head towards Kotori and Daisuke.
âActually...â Kotori suddenly spoke up, taking an earbud out. âKijung has a huge crush on Suwei.âÂ
âItâs true. Heâs whipped.â Daisuke sighed.
âMother-â Saito burried his head in his hands. Erii cackled, leaning forward as the laughter rolled through her body.Â
âThis is gonna be a looong season.â Saitoâs words were muffled by his palms.Â

NEW_DECADE [EP_8]
SUMMARY: Linyang hates everyone, but not everyone wants to hate Linyang.Â
GENRE: Budding friendship?Â
PAIRING: Platonic! Linyang and Suwei
WORD COUNT: 0.8k
WARNINGS: None
Linyangâs routine used to be very simple.
She would walk into HBH Entertainment at eleven, coffee in hand. She would flash her ID and a forced, thin-lipped smile to the woman at the security desk. Then she would take the elevator up 3 floors, unlock the private practice room, and wait for her very expensive private vocal lesson to begin. Her parents have been paying a hefty amount of cash for Linyang to take vocal lessons at HBH. If Linyang was your average girl, HBH would never accept someone with no intention of debuting. However, Linyang was not your average girl, and she will not allow you to think of her as such.
Linyang comes from a line of very wealthy Chinese business people. Linyangâs father is the head of a textile manufacturing company while her mother works as the head publisist of a fashion magazine. The rest of their family works as CEOs, international businessmen, actors, models, and film producers.
Linyang did not want to be an idol until about a month ago, when the idea crossed her mind after listening to one of her cousins brag about the new CEO position she had obtained from her father. What was Linyang supposed to do, let her cousin have the whole familyâs attention? She requested idol training at HBH the following morning instead of her usual private vocal and dance lessons.
Now her schedule involved actual effort. Now she had to be in the practice room at six in the morning. She couldnât use social media as freely as she used to. She had to live in dorms with girls she barely knew. And, the worst of it all, she actually had to work with these people.
âLinyang. Iâm not gonna say it again.â Rushi clapped her hands together, the little patience that the Chinese trainee had was clearly wearing off. âItâs so important that you donât just stop dancing when you forget a move. It looks even worse when you stop.âÂ
Linyang rolled her eyes. âIf you actually taught me the steps, I wouldnât forget them. You move way too fast.âÂ
Rushi arched her eyebrow. Haeun let out a low whistle.Â
âItâs not my job to accommodate for your incompetence, princess.â Rushi adjusted her cap, narrowing her eyes at Linyang. âWeâre starting from the top. No stopping. Keep your moves clean.âÂ
The music started again. The phrase âprincessâ echoed in Linyangâs head throughout the whole routine. When the girls finished, Rushi called for break.Â
Linyang marched over to her designer gym bag, which she kept far away from everyone elseâs stuff. She didnât trust any of these rats with her belongings. While the other girls chatted and laughed, Linyang touched up her make up and stretched out her limbs.Â
While she was reapplying her concealer, she felt something a little off. She glanced to her right and saw that in the reflection of the mirror, Suwei was watching her while she chewed on the rubber straw on her water bottle.Â
Linyang arched an eyebrow.Â
âWhat?â Linyang asked in her foreign tongue. Suwei blinked, slowly raising her finger to her cheek, pointing at a faint red mark.
âWhat concealer is that?â Suwei asked, responding back in Mandarin.
âLa Prairie. And no, I donât know any drugstore dupes.â Linyang frowned at the girl through the reflective glass.Â
The younger girl didnât respond. She still watched as Linyang blotted the concealer with her fingertips, concealing any small imperfection on the womanâs face. Linyang usually wouldnât complain about someone staring, but now it was getting a little awkward. And the small spot that Suwei had pointed to on her own cheek only seemed to be more and more noticeable to Linyang.Â
Finally, her nerves snapped. Linyang turned around, narrowing her eyes at Suwei.
âCome here.â She commanded. The younger of the two stepped closer, her eyes wide. Linyang placed a drop of product onto her fingertip and blended it into Suweiâs skin, instantly covering up the small blemish.
âThere. Is that what you wanted?â Linyang asked, crossing her arms and arching her eyebrow. Suwei observed the spot where her blemish previously was, touching the skin lightly.
âThank you.â She said breathlessly.
âHm.â Linyang responded with a short huff before Rushi called everyone back to finish up practice before dinner.
When the practice finally broke, Suwei made her way back to Linyangâs side as they gathered their things. Linyang frowned, looking sideways at the younger trainee.Â
âLinyang, if you want... we can work on dancing together.â Suwei offered, a smile on her face.Â
Linyang exhaled through her nose. Sheâd rather fling herself in front of a moving car than accept help. Especially not help from one of these lowlifes. But if she didnât do better next showcase, her time as a trainee could be cut short. And having a connection who can speak both Korean and Mandarin well would not be the worst thing.
âTonight, then.â Linyang said shortly.Â
âTonight. Okay. See you then!â Suwei nodded, giving the older girl a thumbs up before jogging over to Kotori, who was waiting for her friend by the door.
Linyang watched the younger girl go with a shake of her head. This better be worth it.Â

CHRISTMAS EVE, 2014. THE FINALE.
The camera flash left an after-image on the inside of Injungâs eyelids, causing him to be temporarily blind for a minute.
âAlright, thatâs the last one, I promise!â Hak Bonghwa, the companyâs founder and main producer promised, lowering his camera at last. The rest of the trainees sighed in relief, but still bowed respectfully to their boss.
The company Christmas party was something else this year. Everyone was dressed up nicely, all in silver and gold to match this yearâs theme. The turn out was bigger than Injung ever remembers it being, mostly due to the large influx of trainees over the past year. Looking around, he realized that he no longer could name every face he saw like he could just 12 months ago. It really felt like everything was changing right in front of his eyes.Â

Red flared up Yerinâs vision as she stormed through the HBH building. The nerve of that man. He promised her that everything was going to be okay. He promised her that theyâd find a way to work out. How were they going to work out now?
She flung the boyâs locker room door open, ignore the high pitched scream coming from Chungheeâs mouth, his hands hurriedly covering his lower regions with a towel.Â
âWhereâs Jaehwa?â Yerin demanded, ignoring the fact that Chunghee was partially nude.Â
âDamn, couldnât you have like, knocked or something?â Chunghee questioned, curling his body away from Yerin self-cautiously.Â
âWhereâs Jaehwa?â Yerin asked a little louder, her patience running thin. Chunghee flinched at the volume and pointed to the left towards the showers.

No one knows how the fight started, but here they were, standing in the living room, screaming their heads off at each other. Hanuel had her hands over her ears, tears streaming down her face as she curled up on the couch. Nari was standing in front of Hanuel, as if her physical being could block out the arguing.Â

âPerfect, perfect, just like that!â The dance teacher complimented B.A.D as they finished rehearsing their stage. The others were allowed to go back to the dorms early, but the subunits were staying back to practice their new stages. This stage was a bit more important than before. This time, sponsors would be coming to watch to determine if they wanted to support their debut groupâs funds. They had to be spectacular. If the sponsors could see how good they were, they could get a hefty donation.
âThatâs a wrap for today, ladies.â The dance instructor called out. The girls tiredly mumbled a thank you and weak bows before sitting on the ledge of the stage, drinking water from their water bottles.
âLooking good,â Jaehwaâs voice complimented before slinking next to Yerin. She placed the bottle down, nodding appreciatively.
âAny criticisms?â She questioned, quirking her head to the side. He was in his stage outfit; a button down silk shirt, slacks, and dress shoes. He looked his age for once. Sometimes Yerin forgot about the three years that separated them. His childish and laid back behavior used to stress Yerin out, but sheâs grown fond of it over the past couple of months. Being around someone twenty-four hours a day makes you see them in a different light. Now heâs shining in Yerinâs eyes.Â

After a long week of busking events, preparing for their second trainee showcase, and other promotional activities, a trip to Lotte World hit different.
The joy that a little cat ear headband gave Calvin was almost laughable, but after the stress that the whole team had been under these past few weeks, he figured he deserved some fun time with his friends.Â
âYo, dude, take a picture for me.â Calvin asked Songgye, who obliged, taking the yellow disposable camera from the younger and snapping a picture of the boy in front of the Lotte World entrance. Changmin stood behind Songgye, giving Calvin a thumbs up.

â¸Â A/N: this oneâs kind of a big post, but thatâs because itâs their first showcase and I had to write for their whole day instead of like, an hour of their time. Enjoy!
âWhat are the chances of our showcase falling on Friday the 13th?â Eunha chuckled as the girls piled into the companyâs minivan.Â
âDude, please donât jinx us.â Rushi groaned, settling in the farthest back seat with Haeun. Haneul nodded in agreement, looking a little frightful. In fact, everyone looked a little nervous this morning.
âDonât worry, weâre going to give our best possible stage. Weâll all do well.â Yerin insisted, sensing the otherâs distress.
âEspecially since weâve been training so hard,â Nari added. Yerin nodded to that. They were extremely well prepared. The last week of rehearsals went by very smoothly with barely any mistakes or mishaps. If you asked Yerin, they looked ready for debut.
âWe got this ladies, weâre gonna crush it.â Soyeon clapped her hands together just as the minivan started rolling out of the parking lot.
Ten minutes before the show started, Jaehwa and Yerin pulled everyone together for a brief moment.
âAlright, this is what weâve been working towards our whole training period.â Yerin stated, looking everyone in their eyes. âWhatever superstitions you may have about today shouldnât hold any weight. We are all talented and skilled enough to make this performance run as smoothly as practice. Donât get nervous. Weâre all here together.âÂ
âYeah, exactly. Give it your best shot.â Jaehwa followed up simply, placing his hand in. Everyone else laid their hands on top of his. They pulsed their hands once, twice, before letting them fly in the air with a âHBHT14!â

âTwo weeks from today, two weeks from today.â Changmin and Songgye chanted together as they squeeze toothpaste onto their toothbrushes.
âTwo weeks from today?â Daehyun played along as he entered the bathroom, taking up the remainder of the space in the relatively small restroom.
âTwo weeks from today.â The other two boys confirmed through frothy mouths. The countdown the boys had mentally been keeping in their brain was for their very first trainee showcase. In an hour, their manager was going to be driving them to their first rehearsal at the venue where the stage would be held.

Jaehwa clapped his hands together, signaling the end of practice. The other eight young men in the practice room all collectively let out a relieved sigh, all of them being exhausted from the all-day practice.
âGreat work today guys! Go rest up!â Jaehwa dismissed them, letting the other members filter out before quickly cleaning up the floors with a mop from the maintenance closet. As he was cleaning, he heard the faint bounce of the bass from the speakers in the girls practice room next door. He sighed and put the bucket away. It was just like Yerin to keep the girls practicing later than usual.

In the lights of the city, Micha could almost pretend that she was dancing on a stage instead of a square of pavement. She finished the dance routine, trying to maintain her gaze while she evened out her breathing again. The clapping and cheers made her heart leap with excitement. When the other girls broke their pose, Micha allowed herself to smile, enjoying the spotlight.
âSince more people have joined us since we began, weâd like to introduce ourselves again.â Yerin said into a bullhorn. The nine girls lined up before bowing forward.
âHello! We are HBHNG!â They said with a wave of their hands. The crowd responded positively, a few flashes from cell phones went off. Micha tucked a piece of hair behind her ear, hoping she looked decent in the photos.

A scream erupted over the bass of the music blaring from the dance room speakers, interrupting the boyâs dance practice. Everyoneâs attention diverted from their reflections in the mirror to look over at the source of the noise. Instead of picking up who screamed, all the boysâ eyes landed on the small brown mouse that was scurrying across the floor by the wall.
âOh hell no!â Chunghee screamed before racing over to the couch in the corner, getting off the ground immediately. Yeetai also ditched practice to join Chunghee on the sofa, his eyes wide.
âGuys, itâs just a-â Daehyunâs words were cut off with his own strangled scream when the mouse suddenly changed direction and came at them at full speed.
