Jin let out a heavy sigh. Damn, looks like he won this round. She could feel Nalu’s self-satisfied grin and look of amusement boring into the back of her head.
“Alright, alright, lead the way, kid.” How long would it even take to get a permit? Knowing Hylian bureaucracy, too long, probably. Maybe they could head to Kakariko instead of tomorrow’s performance. Or find somewhere technically outside city limits? “I’ll play by your rules, lawman.” She couldn’t stand not having the last word, so she added that with a bit of a pout.

Damn, this kid was good. She took the paper, more for authenticity’s sake than anything. She wasn’t planning to lodge a complaint and she had a feeling nothing would come of it if she did. Time to switch tactics.
She took on a more casual stance and dropped her shoulders back. If intimidation wasn’t working, it was time to try and flatter. “Well aren’t you professional.” She considered ignoring his question about the permits, but it seemed like he wasn’t going to let it go, so she decided to go instead for some half-truths. “Look, we both know those permits are just a way to leech money off of people trying to make an honest living, right? Maybe we can work something out, we’re just leaving anway.” She left out that they were performing again tomorrow. “We’ll have this all cleaned up and out of your jurisdiction in no time, so how about we figure something out here?” She would never outright say she was offering to bribe him–she knew better than that–but the implication was there. “What’ll it take to make it right?”

“Tanzan? I like it! It’s got character.” Goron names were always so interesting.
A letter? She briefly scanned the front of it--some kind of work order or something. Well, it wasn’t unusual for fans to just grab whatever they had on them for autographs. She took the pen from her and flipped to the blank side of the paper.
She got through the ‘To my friend’ and paused before writing the name. “How do you spell Tanzan, by the way? I’m pretty good with Gerudo names, but not so much Goron.” She was a professional, after all, and she wasn’t about to screw up on something as simple as a name’s spelling.

A Goron! That was unusual. She made her way over, taking her time on the way to wave at people here and there. She couldn’t resist working the crowd at least a little.
“Autograph? Yeah, sure.” Some people charged for autographs, she was one of them, at the Fortress. But in Rohylia, having another piece of paper floating around with her name on it was enough free advertising that she was willing to make exceptions. She patted her pockets–wait, these pants didn’t have pockets. Damned lazy tailoring.
“Uh, do you have a pen? Something to write it on?” At the Fortress there was a little booth that sold headshots, but not so here, so she was going to have to improvise. “Great to meet a Goron fan, by the way. What’s your name?”

Duck left. Swipe the legs. Get your shoulder under her armpit and–
Payday.
The other Gerudo woman was flat on her back, and Jinyla placed her foot on her solar plexus in a grandiose show of self-satisfaction.
The crowd gathered erupted into applause and Jin helped her opponent up. They took a bow together, all smiles, far from the women who had been at each others’ throats just moments earlier.
“My friends, if you liked what you saw today, please consider coming to see us soon at the Gerudo Fortress!” Jin’s voice boomed through the crowd, surprisingly loud considering the open space and how many bodies were gathered. “We have caravans coming and going all the time, so please, come and visit us soon!”
Jin grabbed a towel out of her sack, which she’d set off to the side of the makeshift arena they’d thrown together on the edge of the city markets. They didn’t exactly have a permit, but so far no one had bothered them to take it down. She wiped the sweat off her forehead and grabbed a waterskin, dumping half of its contents over her head before drinking the rest and offering it to her cofighter. She accepted, and after a short conversation, the other woman left to go take down the stage–that was the deal, after all. Loser strikes the set.
Jin ran the towel over her head sloppily, messing her hair up even further, then flung it over her shoulders and wandered to the few stragglers still lingering after the fight. She did enjoy the attention. Maybe someone wanted an autograph.

“Dæ dimay.” Jeez, drunk people could be inconsiderate, sneezing right in her ear. She looked to her right.Well, he looked pretty confused by her comment, and not like a person who had just sneezed. Jin downed the rest of her drink, not breaking eye contact.
Friggin’ drunk people. Not even realizing when they’d sneezed.

Immediately, Rana started sniffing at the girl, and Jin let out a hearty laugh. She knew there was food nearby, and she wanted it. Direct, just like her rider. “Sorry, Rana thinks you have snacks, I think. Malon, you said? Jinyla Shieru. Nice to meet you.”
She clicked her tongue at Rana. “Oi, leave the lady alone, she’s not here to feed you.” She laughed a bit. “You spend a lot of time around animals, right? Rana here is competing in the Gerudo Horse race with me soon, I want to make sure she’s up to snuff.” She patted the large wallet hanging from her belt. “I can pay whatever you need, so if you or someone could make sure she’s good to go, I’d be grateful.” She flashed a smile, which contrasted a bit with her fairly demanding tone.
Check-Up || Jinyla, Malon
The annual Gerudo horse race was coming up, and Jinyla was itching for some competition. She’d entered a few times in the past and quickly discovered she didn’t have the natural proclivity for horseback riding that she had for fighting. Not that she was bad–she was a Gerudo, after all, and one did not grow up in the Fortress without learning to ride. She always owned her own horse, too, and made sure to have them checked by an outside professional before buying.
Because it was not in her nature to lose, Jin assumed she would have to try and control all of the other factors of the race–clearly the problem wasn’t with her skill level, but something else. Perhaps her horse wasn’t in great health? She’d rode her current horse, Rana, in the race last year and lost. Maybe that was it. So she made a plan to have her horse checked by a professional before the race.
She usually tried to set up her annual promotional tour for the Gladiatrix business around the time of the race so she would already be near Rohylia when it started, so one day when she didn’t have a fight scheduled, she grabbed her horse and headed over to Lon Lon Ranch, which she’d heard was well known for its healthy horses. Maybe someone there could look over Rana.
She dismounted by the gates of the ranch around midday, leading Rana by the reins and looking around for someone who worked there. “Anybody here?” She bellowed. She could see animals, but not too many people about at the moment.

Awesome. Even if he wasn’t a guard--and let’s be honest, he probably was, and the kid next to him definitely was--it sounded like he would turn them in anyway.
“You think we’re here illegally? What, is it because we’re Gerudo?” She scoffed. Okay, so it was a stretch, but she was going to work whatever angle she had, here. “We’re not all thieves, you know. Tch. Racist.”
I’ve Got Your Permit Right Here || Jinyla, Link
“Yeah, that’s me. And you are?” She looked him up and down. He was probably a guardsman, but he wasn’t in uniform, so maybe she could work that. The fact that the other person with him was in full uniform didn’t register as a concern. He probably still had his baby teeth. “Someone who needs to see my permits…why?”

Maybe it was karma from breaking that lady’s parasol. Or maybe it was the lighting. Or the fact that Jin’s eye had caught someone talking to the referee partway through the match. Certainly the reason she was currently pinned to the ground had nothing to do with her legitimately losing to Nalu, right?
She tried to wrench free from the shoulders, but Nalu gave her no purchase, and before Jin could process the reality of the situation, the count had been done and Nalu declared the victor.
Nalu finally removed herself from Jin’s chest and jumped to her feet, bathing in her hard-earned victory. Well, statistics said it had to happen sometime, right? Jin grasped at her sword, grabbing the hilt and stabbing the blade between two stones in the pavement, and used it to pull herself up. Frankly, she thought Nalu was being a little show-offy about her victory, but whatever. Next time. (She was absolutely not pouting. Why would you say that?)
She saw the referee motion discreetly for her to come over. What now? She was already going to have to take apart their set up here and she was not in the mood. She begrudgingly went over and she explained the guard was here. Oh, great. This happened sometimes. Usually she let Nalu field the complaints, but she was too busy showing off to help, it seemed. Typical Nalu.
She walked over to the young man she’d indicated. Jeez, she probably had bruises older than him. “Can I help you, sir?” She put on the sweetest face she could in the mood she was in, which was, in fairness, not particularly sweet. But it would have to do.

CRACK. Jinyla hit the ground and felt something beneath her break. She must’ve landed on something. Sometimes onlookers would leave their things on the ground in front of them, umbrellas and the like. Ah, well. Not really her problem. They’d warned people before the match not to stand too close, so as far as Jin was concerned, she had more important things to worry about. Like the fact that she was rapidly losing this match.
Nalu was in top form today, coming at her relentlessly. Usually, Jin could read Nalu like an open book, but there was something in her eyes that told Jin she was determined to win today. It’s not like she couldn’t afford to lose once in a while--helped make it more believable that Nalu was, in fact, her rival, and not some assistant--but it had been so long since Nalu put up a real fight that it shocked her.
Frankly, she was shocked enough that she barely noticed the referee starting to count down. But, thankfully, she did, and she leapt to her feet, picking up her sword and shield and charging back in. Let it never be said that Jinyla Shieru was a quitter.

Oh, great. Friends don’t leave other friends. Did he mean ever? She was pretty sure he meant ever. Did she now have a dragon stalker?
In addition to this alarming information, she was further alarmed by how quickly his moods changed. She hoped that was a normal Child thing and not a specifically Dragon Child thing, otherwise she was concerned. That, or he was faking the tantrum. Kids did that, right? She was pretty sure kids did that, at any rate. So should she be angry? Call him out?
Well, he seemed calm enough for the moment. It would have to do for now. She’d work on a solution to the whole A-Dragon-Imprinted-On-Me thing later. Assuming there was a solution. (She made a mental note to pick up a book on dragons.)
“Good.” She held back her words, not sure what else to say at this point. She tried giving him a somewhat lopsided grin. “Keep that up. And don’t fall behind, we have places to be!”
Rohylia Promo Tour || Jinyla + ??? (Open)
Jin suppressed a small groan. Any other fan she would have flung halfway across Rohylia by now. She silently gave thanks that most of her fans weren’t small children. She could deal. Slightly ahead, Nalu was snickering. Apparently she found Jinyla’s circumstances entertaining.
“Sometimes friends spend time apart.” How to approach this without getting frozen? “Just because you’re not within ten feet of your friends doesn’t mean you’re not friends anymore. That’s not how it works.” She was trying to be patient, but truth be told, she wasn’t a terribly patient woman. “And besides, I didn’t tell you to stay, I said you might be happier that way. Not the same.” She was no longer really making an effort to disguise her irritation.
“Now cheer up. Who ever heard of a mopey dragon?” She tried to put the encouraging tone back in her voice, and had some moderate success with it. The little acting she’d done in the arena was helping here, she thought.

From anyone else, Jin would have snorted and laughed at the display, but child or not, she was pretty sure the dragon was stronger than she was. Or, at least, that it had ice breath and a club tail that she did not want to get on the wrong side of.
“Calm down, kid, I didn’t say you couldn’t. But remember, Gerudo don’t tolerate whiners, so if you’re coming, no complaining.” Was it true? Not even slightly. Gerudo could bitch with the best of them. But why would he know that?
“So quit it with the stomping. You’re scaring people.” She eyed the people that had scattered from the street–if he kept this up, she was going to end up with a citation, at least. Wait, why would she end up with it? It’s not like she was responsible for the dragon-baby. Was she?

“Sorry, buddy.” She laughed a bit. “That’s where we’re going, if you’re that set on coming. You don’t have to if you don’t want, though.”
She laughed–it always entertained her to hear what other races thought of the desert. Soft, the lot of them. (Though, admittedly, she had expected dragons to be a bit more robust.) “We’re made for the desert. Frankly, as far as I’m concerned, nowhere else beats it.” There were things she didn’t like about it, sure– she’d probably eaten more sand than food in her life–but all in all, she’d never live elsewhere. If for no reason other than it would be far too cold.
“Maybe you should stay back, if that’s how you feel about it.” She shrugged. “You can come with us until we’re headed back and then go do…whatever it is dragons do.” He did say he had nowhere to really go, but he was a dragon. Surely he could figure out some way to entertain himself. He wouldn’t meet her mother, but was that really such a huge deal?

“Oh? You don’t have any other dragons to ask…?” He had said he didn’t have a home, and… Was he an orphan dragon? “Uh…Well, I guess we’ll just have to make do not knowing, then!” She tried to put an encouraging tone to her voice. It sounded like he had a tough life. And his whole village was gone? Just how old was he?
“So you just go wherever you want? That must be nice.” She rarely got to leave the fortress, and though she was perfectly happy there, she sometimes got the itch to explore more of Hyrule. Then again, she wasn’t obscenely famous outside the Fortress. (Maybe at least mildly famous, though.)
“I live at the Fortress, yeah. Same as my mom. Have you ever flown over the desert?” Even if he hadn’t been to the Fortress itself, maybe he’d been in the area?

“Huh? Oh, sure.” She handed the bag over and shifted the box on her shoulders to distribute the weight more evenly. Even if he was a slightly annoying dragon, he seemed to be a helpful one. Besides, it’s not like he was going to be following her around forever, right? She could hang out with a dragon for a few weeks if it meant she would be hanging out with a dragon for a few weeks. Seriously, that alone was cool enough for her that she could get over some things here and there.
“So, Savi,” she began, “where do you usually…nest, is that what dragons do? You a big city dragon or do you live near here?” She assumed he would have somewhere that passed as a home. Or was it called a roost? “Do dragons even live in one place or do they move around? I don’t really know much.”

The force of an incoming affectionate dragon nearly knocked Jin off her feet, though she managed to catch herself in the middle of her backwards stumble. Thankfully, by the time she had corrected, she had figured out that this was not, in fact, an attack, but some kind of nuzzle. What she had first assumed was a growl she was now realizing almost sounded like a purr. …Was he part cat?
“Woah, calm down there, buddy! You nearly knocked me over!” She was trying to keep her tone relatively light–he was a kid dragon, after all–but she was a little irritated, and it showed on her face.
Though, some help moving things would be nice. Maybe even get Nalu off her back. (It wouldn’t.)
“Sure, you can help! Follow me, I’ll show you which way to go.” She hoisted a box onto her shoulders and picked up her bag. Nalu muttered a string of curses under her breath. “Next I’m fighting…Uh… I don’t remember. I’ll check the schedule when I get back!” Hopefully not Nalu, she might actually kill me, she added in her head.
