Severus Snape had always been quite gifted at reading in between the lines and catching tone. It was what helped him greatly in becoming a skilled legilimens. Starting from the simplest aspects such as body language, inflection of the voice, etc. to the point where he hardly ever had to use the skill unless another was specifically preventing them from gathering their needs, fears, or desires. As such, when Celeste made her request clear as day, Severus merely nodded as he turned to go to the cases in the back.
Quickly, he gathered up some supplies for her. Veritaserum, its antidote, and other significantly useful potions that were hard to come by - and especially painstaking to brew oneself. Coming back into the main part of his shop where Celeste was, Severus organized her collection in a wooden case, "I hardly believe its difficult for a witch such as yourself to make your way through the world, Celeste," and began gathering other, less rare, but just as useful potions for her.
Tumblr media
@caelestiasolis
The world they lived in had become an odd place over the recent years. Around every corner the need for the more intricate, more desirable types of magic and potions was on the rise. Celeste herself could not claim to be free of such a need, browsing the little potion shop rather frequently when it came down to it. Perhaps it was his connection with the Death Eaters that caused the witch to see a hint of trustworthiness or the fact that she herself was oh so aware of how useful she could be to those connected to the one who fought the cause for the lot of them. Either way, time after time she found herself returning to visit Severus within the confines of the place he seemed to be, in her eyes, the most at ease. Perhaps it was the fact that for once he seemed to be in his natural element; a rare chance she herself had taken the moment it had been offered to her.
Tumblr media
“The usual, yes. Beyond that, if there is anything else you could think would be of use for a witch trying her hardest to make her way through the world, I’d be more than happy to stock up on that as well.” Celeste found herself turned toward the potioneer in question, head tilting to the side almost as she was questioning whether or not the other understood the underlying tones, the desperation masked with sincere determination. It was a dangerous mix, yet she made no mistake to actually believe that someone such as Severus Snape could ever misunderstand the intentions. Here, within these walls she did not have to worry being questioned about her intentions. Here, within these walls, with no one else around, they were quite clear.

The dry tone along with the tease brought a smirk to Severus' lips. It brought him back to the days when the pair were prefects. Finding new discussions during their patrols from schoolwork to their mutual disdain for a certain Gryffindor; one that smelled like dog and practically threw away his Pureblood lineage at the first chance. Either way, a friendliness between the two housemates that was looked at almost fondly now that Severus was thinking back. Still, back in the present, Snape merely nodded accompanied by the aforementioned smirk.
"Browsing for something new, then?" Severus asked, gauging what to bring her as many items were freshly brewed after a long trip like the one he'd recently returned from. "Interesting?" he asked with an arched brow and went to his desk to retrieve his journal. Once he had, he came back to Caitriona and flipped to a couple of pages with samples of various plants and quicks sketches of thestrals, "A bit darker than usual, but not many can see them. Starting with their diet and environment for my initial research."

halfblxxdprinc3:
For the first time in Severus Snape’s life, there was a sense of unbridled pride. To build a shop of his own from the ground up was nearly unheard of for those that came from similar circumstances as he. Not only as a Halfblood, but poor as well. From hand-me-down shirts and robes that didn’t fit - to someone immersed in Pureblood society and suddenly thrown into the fire of having to abide by all of its various intricacies. Including paying attention to gossip to find a ‘suitable match’ as his new friends called it.
Building his own shop and name for himself had been surprisingly easy. It seemed that raw talent and a penchant knack to prove himself a superior Potioneer took him rather far. The shop had been previously owned by a Halfblood alchemist who could sympathize with his background that it was easy to become an apprentice until it was time for the old man to retire. Once he did, Severus was able to use up his savings to get the building and fill the shelves with all his own work. Much of which he had created along side his housemates in school in the common room. Which included Caitriona Burke. Hearing the bell to the front door, Severus peered up from his work to find none other than miss Burke admiring his shop. While they weren’t particularly close, they were acquaintances and housemates. He even remembered early mornings and late nights as prefects together. Something Severus hadn’t thought about in quite some time. Coming around from his office, Severus gazed across the many shelves above her, “Anything in particular you’re looking for? Or is this a pleasant surprise?”
Tumblr media
@halfblxxdprinc3
Admittedly, it had been quite a while since Caitriona had made a point of seeking out Severus. In their early years at Hogwarts his friendship with Lily Evans had made her think he was more like her, secretly indifferent to the politics of blood prejudice, but then she’d realized she was wrong. While their time at school came to an end, Caitriona had quietly distanced herself from Severus as she realized his interest in the dark arts was more than academic. Once she learned from her father that he’d joined the Death Eaters, she understood that she and Severus had more differences than just their backgrounds.
These days they were truly acquaintances. They moved in the same social circles more now than they used to as Severus refashioned himself into a Prince and joined pureblood society, but Caitriona kept herself to herself more than she had. Today was probably the first time she’d sought out Severus’ company in quite a while, so she couldn’t blame him for being a little surprised. Nevertheless, his straightforward manner was refreshing, and even a little comforting. “My presence is always pleasant.” Caitriona’s tone was dry, but not accusatory; she was joking more than anything. “I’m just browsing today. Are you working on anything interesting?”

It wasn't fair. It simply wasn't fair. The way Lily didn't want to see him in pain, but didn't want the solution either - it was near maddening. In this case, there wasn't an option for both with Severus. If he allowed himself to show the emotions of what he was feeling, the Slytherin was worried it would break her. A rehash of old wounds. Re-opened wounds that he was even healing at the present moment. And if no break her, then certainly her heart.
That day, while so abhorred by Snape, was also the incentive for him to learn the ways of occulmency. A discipline hard learned and achieved. His anger and fear had gotten hold of him in the worst possible way. Lashing out at the one he loved. And no amount of apologies or sorrows would ever rid him of that guilt or that mistake. It tainted his very soul. And never, ever, did Snape want to lose himself to such emotions ever again.
While Lily watched his emotionless features, Severus pushed down his sentiments with a fearsome force. He could still feel them, that much was certain, but it was as though he were keeping back a tidal wave. Doing all that he could mentally to keep the flood gates from opening. All the while, whispering that spell like a sweet melody to heal the one he cared for properly. Watching as the enchantment stitched those horrid words together; words that haunted his nightmares and waking dreams.
As he finished the deed, Severus visibly relaxed. The words healed up well enough that he knew his potion and Andromeda's care would have her on her feet in no time. Although, the hand on his arm made him blink. For a moment, Severus searched her eyes and sighed, pulling away to put his wand back in his robes and reached for the vial he'd set down earlier, "It's not that I'm not feeling," Severus said softly, trying to find the correct words to explain, "In fact, sometimes I fear I feel much more than people give me credit for," he gulped, and brought out a handkerchief as he uncorked the vial and began soaking it with the cerise colored liquid, "To prevent scarring," Snape explained and asked for permission to continue with a simple gaze. One he'd given her so often back when they were children to silently ask if something was all right for him to do.
Once he received such confirmation, Severus began carefully tracing the faint lines with the soaked cloth. His eyes flickered up to see Lily's own expression, but knew he had to keep his feelings at bay, even now, "Proudly wearing my heart on my sleeve is not a luxury I am able to posses. I quickly realized that if I couldn't control my emotions, I would become easy prey," A fool, he thought to himself. For if any of his comrades suspected him, he would be seen as weak and stand no chance against The Dark Lord and all his power.
"Had I known..." Severus gazed away, a flicker of a mixture of anger and sorrow on his face before he composed himself, "No one would have come near you, let alone kidnapped you."
Tumblr media
@fauvehoof
It was as if the world went away and Lily existed in a space solely made from memory and emotion. His arms closing over her a shift in time, pulling her back to dim, nondescript fields and swaying grass- to corners of libraries and potion pantries. Quiet and vivid moments in time, that Lily had not dared consider for an age. The feelings they brought felt precious but secret, a favorite relic that if carelessly used could cause great harm in her. There was a weight to it all that would have felt suffocating and regretful on her own, but she wasn't alone, and it did not hurt.
As Severus' hand drew up Lily's back she breathed in, and as his hand dragged downwards she breathed out, shaking but even. She tried to focus on the rise and fall of his own chest against her temple, the muffled beat of his heart, but when she did it made her more aware of the hospital bed's sheets- that felt so scratchy they almost burned, the over-bright hallway beyond her door, the hum of footsteps, and she refused- preferring momentarily to visit her past, which had been so unbearable to consider alone, as a surprising, impermanent refuge.
What did it mean for him to be here?
The scratch of pen in margins of books, bergamot, sun filtering through hands or trees or curtains. Legs sore from walking all day instead of going back. The way ingredients were collected and stacked, the way records were. Not having to jump to tap his window as her legs grew gangly and long. A smile Lily was certain was shown to no one else.
As he spoke, Lily jumped lightly and felt sad. She was back in the hospital once more. A bitter soreness left by the return of her consciousness, a goodbye to the brief ability to hold her past in front of her awareness and not hurt. It hadn't lasted long enough. Lily winced as she felt like herself again, certain such moments would be painful and anger inducing once more, kept at bay.
His promise of I won't pacified her slightly, but the next comment caused her to pull away from him, to look up into his face, her gaze fierce with something between concern and willfulness. "No-" she breathed, shaking her head. Show it. Lily thought, teeth clenching. Show it and just be plain with me. But she couldn't say it. Even as anger filled her, Lily felt unable to say it. If she asked for reason, for honesty, could she bare an answer?
But even as her mind fought itself to summon the wherewithal to ask these questions, her exhaustion and the potions worked to keep her numbed over, sedated, uncertain of how much was really happening. As Severus wiped away her tears with a brush of his fingertips, Lily felt another wave of exhaustion. She felt him push back her hair, a flicker of a frown passing over her face. As asked, she held still to the best of her ability. It was unpleasant to feel her skin stitch together, even though the pain of it was potioned over, so she focused instead on looking up to watch his face as Severus murmured the spell. Her heart sinking deeper and more deeper still into something narrow and remote as his expression became stonier.
When he'd finished, Lily felt her hand grip his wand arm as she stared up into his face. "Where do you go when do you that...? When you're not feeling?"

The flush on the other's countenance did not go unnoticed by Severus. A rarity that the Halfblood got to see - even as he continued to see his old housemate more often now that he was being integrated into the Pureblood way of life. Snape knew that, at the end of the day, he would never be seen as 'one of them' and didn't expect to. It was one of the main reasons he had made him so useful towards 'the cause' in making himself invaluable in both his knowledge of the dark arts and potion-making. If it weren't for Lucius and his other friends so high up in that society, Severus would have distanced himself from that part entirely.
"Indeed," Severus nodded at the journal, stuffing it away in the lapel pocket of his robes. While it was 'nothing of particular interest' to others, it was rather instrumental to his work, "Recently toured Spain and a bit of the highlands. Much less downcast than here," he explained, knowing that they were in the same position on a few things. Submerged in high society and all the duties and expectations that came with it, as well as the side that went hand-in-hand of such a caste system they were being thrown into.
"Rather doubtful if it's garnering that reaction from you."
Tumblr media
@regulusblacx
Regulus had shared a House with Severus in their school years, but it seemed that lately he was seeing the other man more often than ever. It wasn’t just in their Death Eater duties either. Much to Regulus’ bemusement, it appeared that the halfblood was being assimilated more and more into Pureblood culture. He supposed that was the only way to cling to survival in the War. Yet as much as Severus may try, Regulus knew what the elites said behind his back, amongst themselves. He’d never be one of them, as far as Regulus was aware of.
Regulus flushed as he was probably displaying more outward emotion than was suitable. He wasn’t one for outbursts or a hot temper; other members of his family were better known for that. “You’re a potioneer, if I recall. Research?” He asked lightly, raising a brow, trying to move the topic away from his mood. Regulus clenched his jaw and sank slightly lower into his seat. “Nothing of importance,” he drawled.

That much was true: the world was dark. Much too dark for some. And others, like Severus, thrived in it. Not because he cared much for chaos or lusted for war, but it a sense of comfort for him. Used to such dwellings as a child, in his own home. Darkness was something he was accustomed and could call friend. Light, much like some had tried to guide him towards, was - not quite - foe, but a stranger nonetheless. One, Snape sometimes wondered, if he'd ever greet. As Emmeline glanced down at the lavender sprig and mentioned her father, Severus nodded. Flashes of moments from so long ago. Happy moments. The manor. Dancing lessons. And everything else that came that during their breaks in school when he got to visit the Vance home. "A very comforting scent," he commented. At the mention of tulips, Severus let half a smile flicker on his face. During their time together in school, after a bad day, somehow there would always be that little flower placed in one of his books. Which, of course, included the journal he had with him today, "And that fondness seemed to find its way into my belongings and often spring up from my books," Severus said in almost a teasing manner as he flipped through the journal. Once he found the bookmarked page, the oils from the flower had discolored the pages slightly from years of being compressed within the pages, but the tulip petals were still clear s day in their unique structure - with even a hint of yellow from its withered sepal.
Emmeline's smirk brought one to his own lips, "I suppose both would be quite befitting for you."
Tumblr media
@fidemaledicta
The smile remained in place even when her eyes went searching, to find the very same memories within his as they were reflected within her own. Hogwarts had once been her home, the friendships forged within its walls holding strong even to this day. But there was more, some connections and bonds formed that allowed the witch to feel at home every now and then. Many fond memories connected her with Severus; the evenings in front of the fireplace, reading away at tomes neither of them should have considered reading material. The dull yet comforting sound of rain hitting the surface of the lake. Emmeline could have listed a hundred more yet dared not to think that far into the past, worried it may catch up with the present in ways entirely unforeseen. Still, the smile remained.
Tumblr media
“Is that so?” Emmeline glanced down at the lavender sprig within her glass. “Then let us hope only the good memories remain. The world is much too dark as it is.” A chuckle. There was clear surprise evident within that small sound. “I take it you remember the scent. We used to have it with every tea at the manor and my father had it planted all over the gardens. I suppose that’s where my odd fondness of that purple, little flower comes from. That and tulips of course. Another thing my father loved.” It was the first time in quite a while Emmeline had mentioned the man in question. For the most part she seemed to pretend his existence be nothing more than a ruse. Yet the truth was far different from the scheme meant to keep her going.
She was almost grateful when his words distracted from the thoughts threatening to darken the mood. “Why can’t it be both?” The smile had been replaced with a most mischievous smirk. “Both, definitely. Picked up a tome about ancient curse breaking methods and a couple of other ones to read by the fire.” It seemed that habit had survived beyond her years at Hogwarts. @halfblxxdprinc3

Fear in the goblin teller's eyes. Nothing unusual about that. Bellatrix and Rodolphus Lestrange were profound and enigmatic in their own rights. As a couple, the Pureblood pair were royalty among their society. That alone would make anyone quake beneath their station. Yet, they were also lethal. In many regards. Proud, cold, cunning, and vicious were a mere few words Severus would use to describe them. However, Snape knew that Bellatrix would not challenge him unless he had spoken out of turn or done something to annoy The Dark Lord.
As such, seeing that familiar challenge awakened a long-time buried hatred. It bubbled up within him like a pot starting to simmer from the heat below it. Feeling it in the pit of his stomach like a sickness. There was only one person Snape knew who gave him that expression when they wanted a challenge. Sirius Black. Masking that anger quite well with his skills in occlumency, Severus let his curiosity get the best of himself. Following them into the darkness.
"Madame Lestrange," Severus called calmly in an attempt to speak with her on her own. Coming up to her, he folded his hands behind his back. His own eyes flickered her over. Nothing out of the ordinary on the surface, but he had to be sure, "Care to explain why we're being graced with you and your husband's presence?" he asked with an arch of a brow, "I presume our orders are still in place, but if there has been a change in plans..." he drawled, fishing for an answer he would expect from her.

Unlike most of their missions, this one seemed rather unclear compared to the rest. Guarding a vault with a hidden object he had no knowledge of its importance. Perhaps those who had been in the inner circle longer knew, but as Severus stood next to Mulciber, the younger Slytherin couldn’t help but let his mind wander.
Even more so when he caught a glimpse of a certain most-loyal-right-hand for The Dark Lord appear in the gilded halls. There was always something striking about her. From her eyes to the wicked smile and, of course, that stroke of violence that was a brilliance all on its own. A quality he admired much in his comrade; one he’d looked up to.
And yet…
There was something…different. A challenge in her eyes that Severus hadn’t seen in years. And certainly not from her. Usually, Bellatrix paid no mind, or was cold and calculating. This was different. Watching the pair carefully, Severus stuck to the shadows until they came up to the goblin teller at the grand podium. Keeping an intense, watchful gaze.

Staring at the figure across the hall, Sirius felt a weird sensation stirring within him. He was looking at a mirror image of his older cousin Bellatrix Lestrange, yet he was in her shoes, clad in her customary dark, intimidating attire. He felt a weight of unease settle within him, as though he were playing a role he didn’t understand in a play he didn’t want to be part of.
Observing Snape from afar, Sirius attempted to channel Bella’s cruel grace, her haughty confidence. It was unsettling, the way he saw Snape’s gaze linger on him—Bellatrix—with what seemed like a mix of admiration and caution. But he also saw something else, a glint of curiosity that intrigued him.
In an attempt to maintain the façade, Sirius’ gaze drifted to the goblin teller at the grand podium. He felt a pang of relief as he moved away from Snape’s scrutiny. This was a part of the mission he could do—cold, impersonal, calculated. Sirius was good at acting, a trait honed from years of navigating his complicated familial relationships.
As Sirius approached the teller, he let Bellatrix’s infamous smile stretch across his features. It was a smile that promised danger, a smile that had haunted his dreams on countless nights. He hated it, hated the person he was pretending to be.
But right now, he had a mission to complete.
Playing with the fear in the goblin’s eyes, Sirius felt a flicker of regret. He wished he could reveal himself, wished he could pull off the mask and be Sirius Black, not Bellatrix Lestrange. But he couldn’t. Not yet.
As Sirius turned to leave, his gaze locked with Snape’s once again. The Slytherin’s stare was intense, watchful, as if he were trying to solve a puzzle. Sirius met his gaze with equal intensity, hoping the younger Death Eater would see the challenge in his eyes.
A challenge that said, ‘I’m not who you think I am.’
Sirius couldn’t help the urge that he wanted to act out towards Snape, but he couldn’t. Bellatrix might, being who she is, but not randomly, without reason. He had to focus on the mission, to make sure they got what they had come to do. To steady his heart, control the whirl storm of feelings that made chaos in his mind by donning the likeness of his older cousin. And with that, he stepped back into the shadows, swallowed by the darkness.

Snape almost scoffed at the manner of which Lupin was reacting. He knew it wouldn't take much for a confirmation that it was him. After all, they had years of experience of mutual disdain for one another under their belts. Nevertheless, Snape still kept his guard up. Out of all the Gryffindor lot he often dealt with, Severus knew that - while he was quiet, but complicit - Remus was also quite gifted in dueling. Eyes narrowed as Snape took notice that the other was hardly phased by the knockback jinx. Behind the mask, he sneered. If the other completely ignored it, then something was tipping the scales in Lupin's favor, somehow. Yet, quickly on his feet, Severus blocked Remus' counterspell with ease. Then, seeing the imminent explosion, the Slytherin got out of the way quickly as he sent another nasty hex toward the other that would bring a horrid ringing of the ears and blurred vision to disorient the Gryffindor.
However, the explosion still managed to effect Snape, cursing as a piece flew and hit his shoulder. In angered retaliation, he then used one of this original spells that Lupin and his friends loved to torment him at school with once they stole it, "Levicorpus!" he managed calmly, searching for whatever was helping Remus now in this fight.

The masked figure stayed silent and he had to wonder if it was because he didn’t want to give himself away. They altered their voices slightly but he would know Snape’s odd manner of speaking anywhere. So despite the fact he didn’t get confirmation in the way of words he felt the silence spoke volumes.
Held back anger sizzled beneath his skin remembering what Lily had told him, that Snape had dared to see her, to comfort her after his group was the one that had taken her. Was he there watching her in the room they held her? Doing nothing like the coward he was? And then slithering to her bedside once she was out of danger…
He countered the spell with a flick of his wrist shooting one back in return aimed at his legs to take them out from beneath him, to take him down a peg. He fired off an expulso curse at the statue just behind Snape causing it to explode, pieces of it flying in every direction.

Something was certainly off with their mission this day. After the suspicions of Bellatrix and Rodolphus, Severus went to The Dark Lord - who called and sent out their rest of their ranks immediately. Sensing the urgency - even without knowing the value of what they were protecting - Severus knew he didn't want to stick around to find out; quickly apparating himself back to the bank.
Originally, Severus' goal was to find Mulciber once more. However, not even a moment after placing on his mask, it seemed, his attention was being called. Behind those hooded eyes, Severus peered to find an old foe. A smirk spread on Snape's lips as Remus called him out and deflected the spell aimed at him. The pair had quite the history, interwoven in numerous ways. Some of which caused Severus a bit of glee to finally be at odds; standing with wands facing one another. Snape's heart and arm were held steadfast. Concentrating on what one of his school rivals would do next. He kept silent, knowing there was nothing he could say that wouldn't waver the other more than he already was. At least, for the moment. Instead, his skills worked in volumes for him, sending a loud message as he conjured a nasty knock-back jinx wordlessly to test the waters.

Where: Gringott's Bank Who: @halfblxxdprinc3
Remus watched Sirius appearing as Bellatrix walk into the bank and down to the vaults, things starting out as planned. Almost. He noticed Snape lurking about with Mulciber just as he was with Priya and he had an uneasy feeling about it but they couldn’t stop now. Why was Snape here on this particular day? Did a death eater always keep watch over Gringotts and the vault or was there something different about today? He didn’t like waiting, especially under the watchful eyes of the goblins but it was all they could do. He and Priya were idly chatting, for the sake of covering acting as if they were waiting for someone as he watched Snape out of the corner of his eyes. If they had people stationed at the bank it was likely any visit to the vault would be informed in advance which their imposters obviously weren’t… He felt restless a pit of unease in his stomach sensing this would not go as planned. Sirius as Bellatrix along with Alice as Rodolphus came striding back into the lobby and it was then that all hell broke loose.
There was a crashing sound and his head whipped to look for the source, things being knocked over as figures in masks stormed the bank. Civilians unlucky enough to be here, that they couldn’t clear without raising suspicion were backing away from the advancing figures forming a loose clump near the tellers’ desks, looking for cover no doubt. His head whipped back around to look for Snape who had been there just a moment before but instead, there was a masked figure coming from a different direction than the others. He wasn’t about to let him join his friends and he stepped in front to intercede. “And just where do you think you’re going?” he asked shooting off a spell his way, sparks sizzling at his feet in warning. “Off to join your friends?” His thoughts went back to his last conversation with Snape, leaning heavily on the word friends, a taunt. There had been two separated from the others both Mulciber and Snape he just hoped he had the latter in front of him.

Who: Sirius as Bellatrix & Severus @halfblxxdprinc3
Where: Gringotts
For: The event
Under the guise of Bellatrix Lestrange, Sirius moved through the stately, gilded halls of Gringotts, his stride purposeful and slightly menacing. He had mirrored the haughty tilt of Bellatrix’s head, letting her raven curls shield part of his face. His eyes, now a cold, sharp blue, scanned the room with practiced indifference. He took in the sneering goblins counting heaps of Galleons and the customers waiting impatiently in line.
Beside him, Alice, wearing Rodolphus’ stormy expression, moved with the same feigned aloofness. He shot her a quick, sidelong glance, the only visible sign (he hoped) of his apprehension and determination. A heavy silence hung between them; words were unnecessary when the stakes were so high.
In the corner of his eye, Sirius spotted a figure that sent a spark of recognition through him. Severus Snape. His presence was like a shadow that seemed to darken the grandeur of Gringotts. Sirius felt the pull of their shared history, a dark mire he had no wish to wade into at present. But, given the role he was playing, ignoring him wasn’t an option. He let his gaze drift toward Snape, a glint of wicked mirth in his eyes that he hoped was sufficiently Bellatrix.
Time seemed to stretch interminably as they waited for their turn, the goblins attending to the patrons with excruciating precision. He clenched his hands, nails digging into the palm of his hand - a reminder to keep Bellatrix’s characteristic impatience in check. The delay was grating, yes, but Sirius knew better than to make a scene. Not when they were so close to their target.
The goal was simple: infiltrate the Lestrange vault and secure Helga Hufflepuff’s cup. But its simplicity belied the gravity of the situation. This was no ordinary theft; they were stealing a piece of Voldemort’s soul, a Horcrux. As Sirius stood there, the magnitude of their mission pressed upon him. They were on the brink of striking a significant blow against Voldemort, a thought that brought a spark of anticipation.
Being at Gringotts, impersonating Bellatrix, was as far from Sirius’s ideal situation as it could get. Yet, he felt fascinated by it. The impersonation, the embodying the cousin he once had admired so. It made him miss her and even, maybe, slightly understand her. But as he stood there, on the precipice of making a crucial move in this war, he found a sense of resolve settling in. They were here on a mission. There was no room for error, no chance for hesitation.
As he stepped forward, Sirius steeled himself for the trials to come, casting one last look at Snape, a silent challenge in his eyes. He would not falter. They had a Horcrux to steal, a war to win, and Sirius was prepared to see it through.

Lily & Severus | But Life Is Never Like That
I have no idea how this happened. I don’t even ship them - I swear I will love Jily until my dying breath. But inspiration struck and then my ego wouldn’t allow anything other than a three-minute-long, heartbreaking tribute… you’re welcome, I guess? And while I hate Snape… the same can’t be said about Aneurin Barnard. I think I kind of fell a little in love with him while making this. I hope you like it.

The narrowed eyes before him did little to deter Severus. In fact, he thought of it a bit like a game: how far could he push the other? With a smirk and a quirk of a brow, the Slytherin asked, "Cozy? Is that what you call it?" That word would never cross Snape's mind when considering Lupin's...condition. He then nearly rolled his eyes at the other's reply and stood, "Be that as it may...one should be wary of flowers like belladonna," a hint at the fact nothing as it seemed. And with that, Severus turned away from the Gryffindor and swiftly made his way out of the establishment.

His eyes narrowed as Severus dared to bring up his secret, not that he was surprised, it was only a matter of time until he did. “Not sure what you’re on about, my memory is perfect, and I’m quite cosy really around the full moon,” he assured him not missing the implied slight from the potions master. It wasn’t lost on him that Severus would be the perfect one to brew the very potion he needed. “Such concern, but you needn’t worry I have all the flowers I need,” he said, eyes narrowing. It wasn’t totally true, but with all the help he had it was true most months.

A scoffing laugh surpassed Severus' lips. On the contrary, Severus knew friendship quite well. More than those Gryffindor boys could ever fathom that Snape would. And that notion made him bitter, internally. Back in school, many thought he either was a coward or was always underestimated in some aspect. Especially by them. However, now, Severus was respected by those who could provide something for him in return. "Perhaps those pesky full moons have been deteriorating your memory, Lupin," Severus sneered, "Or did you forget a certain flower?"

“I know it’s a hard concept for you to wrap your head around but that’s what it’s like to have friends. I don’t happen to know a mutt though,” he replied cooly. He didn’t like the smirk on the other's lips as if he had gotten something over on him or gotten under his skin. Did he feel bad about attacking him back in the day despite the circumstances? Of course, even given who it was. It did bother him that the other knew such a secret about him, but he had seen Severus ridiculed enough that it wasn’t like he came up empty either. “No one has ever been attached to your hip.”

The moment Lily placed her forehead against his shoulder, Severus wanted desperately to wrap his arms around her. However, he knew it wasn't right. Not when she was in this much pain; this terrified. It made him silently vow to hex whomever hurt her in this way - no matter if they were comrades. In their battles, it became rather hard to distinguish the spellcaster from the magic. But he quickly shook that thought away, concentrating on comforting the woman before him. Only wanting to take her pain away. Once Snape felt Lily calm down and press against his chest, his arms enveloped her in a loving embrace. An act he hadn't done for years, yet it felt so natural. A hand began to run up and down her back gently, careful of any injuries he could see in plain sight, to comfort her. Her next words nearly broke his heart, closing his eyes briefly before pulling from the embrace to search her eyes; black meeting green. "I won't," Severus said without hesitation. Not because he didn't believe he'd feel it, but he could mask it. For years, Severus had perfected the art of occlumency, knowing when to use it to his advantage. If, in some way, it could help Lily now, Snape would use it in a heartbeat, "And any that I do feel, I promise not to show it." As Lily pulled away, Severus gulped; silently putting his mask back up. His expression became neutral, allowing himself to experience the inner turmoil without showing it. And luckily, it gave him something to concentrate on as the wound was revealed. Filthy Mudblood. Those accursed words that haunted him over the years. A painful memory he wished he could rip away.
Gulping, Severus gathered all his will to keep his emotions calm and collected outwardly, as to not worry her. The last thing he wanted was for her to try and comfort him when she was the one who needed to be taken care of; when he didn't deserve it. Silently, Severus brushed away her tears and her hair, "Stay still, love..." the endearment from a lifetime ago surpassing his lips. Taking a deep breath, Severus took out his wand, pointing it to Lily's chest. His countenance remained still, focusing on the task at hand. Then, Severus began to utter a spell of his own creation - the incantation almost sounding like a song as he repeated it - watching the injury begin to heal, "Vulnera Sanentur..."

Lily felt dizzy from breathing so fast- but she couldn't help it. Her heart was pounding so hard it felt like if she didn't find more air she would die. Goosebumps erupted over her skin, shoulders shaking as Severus closed his hands around them.
Nothing felt real. Nothing felt real until her mind refocused on Severus' voice, his breath. Lily leaned her forehead against his shoulder, shaking her head. She wanted it to stop. She wanted her body to stop hurting.
With great effort, Lily forced herself to breath more slowly, doing her best to match his rhythm. She pressed her face against his chest, helped by the feeling of his lungs rising and falling.
It was because she knew this would hurt him. Lily winced, trying not to think about the feeling of them going into her mind, pushing through her. It had been worse than any strike. Their sounds of amusement, their gasps and scoffs of her memories.
She hadn't done it, but she still wanted to apologize for it. Surely, it would bring his own recollection to the surface of his mind. "I don't want you to feel pain-" she cried, her voice a broken moan. She hoped that was enough, that explained why this was so difficult.
Pulling back from him, Lily tugged at the bandage across her chest feebly, hands shaking horribly. Lily let the bandages fall to her lap as another sob caught in her throat. She was more self conscious of herself crying like a child than she was about the exposure. Nevertheless, it was hard for her to not bow away, to not let her hair fall over her shoulders, hiding the phrase carved against her chest.

Seeing Emmeline's smile brought back many memories. Much of them were good. Or stemmed from one of the various 'incidents' he ran into during school, where thereafter, Emmeline would sit beside him. Drinking tea. Reading together. Staring out at the lake in their common room. And even if the memories originated from a place of bitterness, the addition of Emmeline after set it to a much better one that he recalled from time to time. A mixture of laughter and lavender. With a nod, Severus replied, "Indeed they are. Some even blend into others. And many can even be revived with a familiar scent," his eyes went to her cup, "Lavender honey?" he asked intrigued. Something that reminded him of his visits to their manor during their breaks. He could lose himself so easily in those memoires. A shadow of a simpler time. Severus then glanced to the begs Emmeline tapped and chuckled, "All work then? Or some books for pleasure as well?"

There was thorough amusement within each word coming from the one across the table. Emmeline couldn’t help the smile that spread at the idea of pureblood society finally having rubbed off on her. Had she ever been outside the reach of said society? For the longest of time, it felt as though she’d been busy living in its shadow to the point where it had melted into one and become her very own. Not many people knew of her heritage and for what it was worth, it took quite a bit to convince her to share said knowledge with any of the ones not in the known already. “How dreadful. I might just fit in properly. Whatever will the world think of me now?” The chuckle showed just how little the witch cared about such matters. Caring about someone else’s opinion was limited to the few people that she actually cared about beyond the most basic matters.
Emmeline couldn’t help the nod, acknowledging that a lot of things had been ones she’d have given a lot to know, including the origin of the many elves and yet the world outside the walls of Hogwarts seemed like one where every little bit of ignorance was purest bliss. There wasn’t much left that they could ignore now and while some of their stories had started way back in their first year, stories yet to be written, she didn’t want to know all of them. There was something about knowing that took away from the magic of a place such as Hogwarts. How much easier had it been to pretend that all was well back then.

It was fascinating, how much had changed and yet how much had stayed the same. No matter the years, Emmeline always found herself interested in whatever paths Severus’ thoughts would take. “Memories are such a bizarre construct, aren’t they?” She glanced at him with a smile so very filled with nostalgia before her eyes focused back on her drink, her own mind spinning tales of bygone memories. An idle hand tapped the bags placed next to her, the books and other things safely tucked away. “I had to stack up on some supplies.” That, and the fact that she simply couldn’t walk past a bookstore without giving it at least a small peek. And not once had she ever left such a store without at least a book or two to go through. @halfblxxdprinc3
