I’m having patches made professionally for one of my cosplays (FPA commander) and I’ll have to order more than I need. I’ll post again when they’re done and I can calculate a price for shipping them overseas if anyone is interested.

Sidenote: Thanks to the respective creators of these images, they were a big help.

Edit: I just realised the IRGF has an error with the background circle not being coloured in. That should be easy to fix in a future run.

AI Image Echo Chamber

We have an image recognition AI that generates a description (the same engine that powers @picdescbot). And now we have an AI that can draw you a picture from a description. So what happens if you keep going back and forth between them?

We start with Wikimedia Commons’ Image of the Day (for today 2018/08/17)

This is “a castle surrounded by a body of water”. It’s actually a monastery, and I think the water is only on one side, but I can definitely see what the AI is thinking.

This is what AttnGAN thinks a castle surrounded by water looks like:

Well, I can see some castle-like features, and some water-like features. What Microsoft Azure sees is “a view of a stone building”, which seems fair.

Put that back in to the image generator and you get:

I’m not sure I see anything, but the other AI does, identifying this as “a tall building in a city”. 

That gets turned into:

Hey, it’s recognizable again. It’s unusual looking, but I would totally buy this as a photograph of a building somewhere. And the image description AI calls this one "a tall building in a city”, too. The AIs have reached agreement!

Everyone in our family has a musical talent which we are very proud of. However, we were highly disappointed in our son Mario who hadn’t inherited a good ear for music and is awful in playing the instrument he chose. He hadn’t inherited my wife’s wonderful voice as well. He sings horribly. But his teacher has discovered that he’s a mathematical genius. We thank the Virgin of San Juan for our son has a talent.

1Kirjoittajan pitäisi aina antaa lukijalle tilaisuus hermostua ja harmistua. Ei lukija lue, ellei hän voi tuntea älyllistä tai muuta henkistä ylemmyyttä kirjoittajaan verrattuna. Juuri siksi tenttiin tai kokeeseen lukeminen on sein niin katkeraa. Oikein mieluisaa on lukea sellaista, missä kirjoittaja paljastuu itserakkaaksi hölmöksi. Eikä aineisto lopu.
