"Yeah!" If Kurthnaga was already excited, then Elise's excitement multiplies it by tenfold. Forget all of that nasty bit about judgement and everything was fine! Great even!
Once the doubts washed away, all that was left was a man - nay, still a boy - who was eternally curious about the world and would seek adventure wherever he went.
And where he was right now was a land, albeit scorched land, entirely unknown to him! He was going to explore it with all that he had!
Kurthnaga glances towards where Elise points, and begins running towards it with the gusto he had once had when he snuck away from his guardians as a child. Of course, he was far from old and weary like Nasir, but he was also far from being that young.
Poking his head in, a blast of heat escape from the tunnel between the rocks, blowing his hair back. A thin ashy flim now covers his face as he turns back to wave Elise over to join him.
"Come along! I'm sure we'll be fine with the spell to protect us! There's so much to explore!" He shouts excitedly, waving with an amount of energy that Gareth would probably sigh to see upon his face. He pokes a little futher, spotting a tunnel on the ground before him leading downward. It reminds him of the lava tubes he had been forbidden from after one... expedition, and he can't help but want to rush forwards headlong, "Ooooh! A tunnel! Elise, come look!"

End of Month Report (April): A Future Goldoa Could Have One Day
Drabble Series Between Nasir and Kurthnaga, Getting Together Once a Month to Share Information (Last Month)
"Nasir!" The young king excitedly opens the door to his dorm room to the older, ushering him inside with a smile. Kurthnaga blushes slightly as Nasir steps around the mess on the floor to make his way over to the desk chair, the white dragon raising a questioning eyebrow.
"I should hope it's not always like this. I would expect a little bit more out of you in regards to..." Nasir picks a book off of the tallest stack, "cleanliness."
"I... didn't have time to clean up?" Kurthnaga offers with a nervous smile and a shrug, knowing full well that Nasir would be able to tell when he was lying. He falls quiet a second later, sitting gently on his bed. His quarters are certainly cramped compared to the office they had shared some weeks ago, but almost cozy in a way.
He glances up at Nasir, checking the older man's expression. It remains as sly, though stoic, as ever, that constant thin smirk painting his lips.
"We best not delay, Your Majesty. I don't intend to keep a student like yourself up late into the night," Nasir folds one leg over the other, gently placing his slender hands in his lap, "So... I expect you have a report on your month?"
Kurthnaga laughs gently, "I feel like it's been rather quiet lately. Not that I mind! But I like it when the monastery is busy and bustling as well."
He pauses in thought for a moment. Perhaps it just a matter of everyone catching their breath after the excitement of last month's mock battle?
"I did go out to this place called the Valley of Torment though!" He sounds oddly happy to report about it for a place with such a grim name, "I know it sounds terrible, but it was oddly nostalgic in a way!"
"Mn, I do remember that you got in quite a bit of trouble once for sneaking all the way out to the lava tubes. You were lucky Gareth caught you before you got any further," The elder laughs, hiding his smirk behind one of his hands, "Why! Imagine what could have happened if you had gotten out so young! They wouldn't have known what to do with you!"
Kurthnaga feels his cheeks burn brightly as he ducks his head away. He had only been a curious child, but one young enough that he still needed to cling to his guardians at every turn. Nasir was probably right, he would not have lasted very long at that age before he would have run crying home, "Yes well... how about you?"
"There was this marketplace, you would have rather enjoyed it, I think," Nasir fiddles with a chess piece that had been lying on Kurthnaga's desk, "But that is not why I bring it up. It is something that I wish to see in Goldoa someday, the outside world and our kingdom mingling together. I hope that you will be able to make that possible."
The older man stands, heading back to the door as Kurthnaga stares at his lap, the burden of expectation placed upon him. Could he live up to such ideals? Could he even live up to the legacy left for him?
"Goodnight, Kurthnaga," Nasir says softly as he leaves, not even offering Kurthnaga a chance to reply as he shuts the door behind him.
"I... I hope to be able to... make that wish come true Nasir... I promise I'll do my best..." He says, even though the white dragon could not hear him anymore. But... was he really capable of such ideals? Only time could tell.

"Beorc, yes," Kurthnaga had grown used to people from outside of Tellius being unfamiliar with the words they used, but it was still a little bit strange to have to explain himself so extensively. Oh! But kind of exhilarating at the same time! Wasn't sharing knowledge fun! "We don't use..." he gestures, not wanting to repeat what Gerome had said, "unless we as laguz intend to offend beorc the same way they offend us."
Kurthnaga blinks in confusion at the other man's question, cocking his head to the side curiously - like a cute and confused little kitten. A beast tribe perhaps? He had never heard of any "taguel", not in Tellius.
He shakes his head, "No, sorry," He laughs softly, "Even if they did exist in my homeland, I... I spent most of my life isolated until recently."

"I don't," Kurthnaga remarks quietly as Naesala sets to work. He knows he was just teasing, how either of his older siblings might have, but...
It still felt like it needed to be said.
Naesala's fingers are quick and light, gentle as they drag through his hair. It's relaxing even, bringing a sort of calm to the young dragon's heart amongst all that he had endured in the past years. Sitting here like this, in this festival where beorc and laguz mingled together, with a friend by his side, well... it made him feel like everything might be alright someday. Maybe not today, and maybe not tomorrow, or the day after that. Maybe not even in a year, or two, or ten. But someday. Someday he would be able to feel that calm all of the time, a peace that did not come so easy anymore.
He stands up once Naesala is done, running over to the mirror as he had told him to. The young dragon lets out a giggle unbefitting of a king, and claps his hands together gleefully, "Why! Naesala! How lovely!"

Kurthnaga scowls, an unbefitting look on his small and youthful face. He does not move, from his place nor towards the ballista in any way. For once he feels as stubborn and steadfast as his father always had been, glaring up at the excuse of a knight.
"I would not consider myself a fan of yours. Nor would I wish to join you in any further... testing of weapons like these." He hides the way his hands tremble behind his back, dares not to look at the weapon of war before him. He is not suited to such things anyway, beorc weaponry made to shoot that out of the sky which they could not reach - were not meant to reach - with their own hands.
"No thank you. You have your fun. I'll just be..." He takes a few steps backward, "Over here."

Hunting a literal deer wasn't exactly on Kurthnaga's bucket list for his time in Fodlan, at least not this year. (He would prefer it to be never, but he did always have such a hard time saying no. Especially when it came to new experiences.)
Kurthnaga ignores the turn in his stomach and smiles at the beorc woman who has approached him politely, "I have never handled a bow before, but it would be an honor to embark on such a mission with a valued classmate." Bows were what beorc usually used for hunting, right? He assumed that was the case but one could not always be certain when it came to an area they were not experience in.
(He tries desperately to not remind himself that a hunt involves the killing of the prey, and killing involves blood. Would it be different if the blood was not beorc or laguz in nature? Kurthnaga did not think it was worth experimenting with, but it was a question that he could not help but to pose to himself.)
"Forgive my inexperience in that regard!" He says with a bow in apology. He quickly rises, with an odd hurry that may have seemed almost panicked, "What kind of... game? Does the vendor desire?" Was that right? Oooooo, he truly didn't know! But he was curious nevertheless, even if it may force him to face his fears. A hunt would be on!

"Young...?" Kurthnaga cocks his head in confusion. He may still have retained his youthful apperance, but he was far from young. Not that she knew that.
Even so! She didn't look that much younger than he did! If he reckoned, his percieved age and hers were about the same. She surely had no right to be calling him young'!
(For a startling moment, Kurthnaga is caught up in his youth, how small he had always been next to his father. His youth betrayed him, a visage that he sometimes did not think was fitting of Goldoa's king. He certainly did not command respect when he walked into a room the way his father had. Even Nasir seemed to still think of him as a petulant child, as if he looked down upon him both figuratively and literally.)
"Ah, nevermind..." He lets out a long sigh before returning once more to his usual smile. Her excitement, while not for something he would find himself normally interested it, is endearing and he can't help but want to indulge just a little, "Um... yes! I was taught it by one of the mages before I travelled here!"
As demonstration, he takes her hand and mumbles the chant for her somewhat clumsily, letting the shield from the heat wash over her skin. The sweat dripping from her forehead had not escaped his notice and once he is done, he looks rather proud of himself for only the second time casting the spell.
"It was not my intention when I came here, but I suppose there is no harm in training with you for a bit. Since you have asked..." He slightly prays for her to not ask him to duel her, "To seek new knowledge is, at the very least, something I desire as well."

"Ah. I suppose that is... ad... mirable...?" Kurthnaga isn't sure if she is someone to look up to or just a fool who is going to get herself injured in the pursuit of strength. He winces slightly, laughing awkwardly.
The very air burns around them, though Kurthnaga is not put off by it. He finds it comforting, rather. Like a warm sea breeze sweeping over his skin. He imagines that it wouldn't be quite so comfortable for a beorc though and his worry for the girl wells up again.
He didn't really get it, why one would put themselves through great pain if it managed to bring them strength. The idea is sickening, the idea to bleed, to be wounded, so long as it brought you strength. Though he supposed that beorcs did not have the luxury of natural strength. They were born into this world weak and crying, needing their parents to care for them every step of the way. They were fragile. It took years of training to be able to build up their strength. Perhaps that is why they fought so hard to achieve it.
"Avoid the usual... how interesting," He smiles gently, "Do you often seek out unusual techniques then? Ones that are not known to the general populace?"

"For... training? Oh!" Kurthnaga viciously waves his hands in front of himself in denial, feeling his cheeks begin to flush as she seemed to be completely fine rather than injured from her steps into the flames in any sense, "No! I haven't come here for training at all. I was just curious about the area and the rumors surrounding it!"
He doesn't know anything about what a "warrior" is like, other than depictions of them in books. She didn't seem like she was much of the powerful warrior type, but his perception could certainly be wrong. Perhaps she was the strongest person he would ever meet. That would certainly be interesting!
"Uh..." He continues to blush, either out of embarrassment or from the heat surrounding them, "I'm not much of a 'warrior', so I suppose I wouldn't know. I'm quite fearful of battle and all that comes with it actually. It never made much sense to me to properly train skills for something I despise and would wish to avoid at all costs." He nods in agreement with himself. He looks her up and down a few times in curiosity, ruby eyes twinkling gently.
"Why do you do such a thing though? If it was to pain you, would you stop in your pursuit of training? Is this a common method amongst beo- your people to train in this way or are you just emulating the monks of rumor in this area?"

Kurthnaga wonders if they'd had anything like this back in Goldoa, if his childhood self would have forced Gareth into playing with him like he had with so many other things. If Nasir would have been more willing to be coerced into playing if he had known there was a game of strategy involved.
He's a little jealous though, that Lianna would have had such an easy experience bonding with those in her kingdom. Not overly, but just a little bit.
He smiles down at the card she shows him, trying to follow her explanation as he nods along.
"Oh! Interesting! So there are cards that you do need something special to summon?" Again, he had read the rulebook, but he was still painfully ignorant in the intricacies. How wonderful that he had someone who knew so much to teach him! "Fascinating!"

Kurthnaga, giddy with the excitement of the festival around him, smiles brightly at his winged friend. (Were they friends? He hoped they were friends.)
He sits obediently when told, beaming up at the raven with an eager twinkle in his ruby eyes. As much as he forced his siblings to play with him when he was younger, he had been a fussy child when touched and had once cried his head off when his own beloved sister tried to pat his head. (He had been, admittedly, much younger and such behaviour had ceased soon after.)
Kurthnaga twirls a finger around his hair. It stops just a few inches below his ears, the shape hiding their pointed ends. He does wonder sometimes why he keeps it like that when he had never had reason to hide within Goldoa, when others like Nasir made no effort at all even outside of it. Perhaps out of habit at this point, and convenience.
"That sounds quite lovely," He smiles, softer and more contemplative, "I'm sure you're very skilled Naesala, I do not doubt that."

"Duel," Kurthnaga says flatly, "With the... rock?" He cocks his head in confusion. Were duels not meant to be something honorable between men and knights and the such? He could be wrong, but in the stories he had read before, it was always something about honor and revenge.
He can't imagine a rock being able to partake in such a thing. It's a rock. It cannot speak nor move - unless someone assigns those traits to it. It would not be much of a duel on the poor rock's part. Nor would it be on his either, as it would be over far too quickly. (Not that he ever wanted to have to partake in a duel, but his head may not have been in the right space right now to puzzle through that.)
He sighs, painting an awkward smile across his lips, "I suppose I can give it a try. Please be careful, I cannot guarantee how safe this will be even for bystanders."
Kurthnaga takes a deep breath, curls his hand into a fist, and slams into the rock with all of the strength he can muster so suddenly.
The rock shatters nearly completely. More than even Kurthnaga had been expecting. He blinks slightly in surprise before bursting out in stunned laughter.
"... Haha...! Oh my! How unexpected!"

"I'm not sure, I just wanted to look around. People have said that monks used to train here in days long passed, as well as it being a place for Fodlan's Goddess to send down her judgement," He says as Elise taps him gently on the arm with her staff. The spell, weak as it seems to be, is oddly comforting as it basks over him. Warm like the fires that burned around them with a slight chill to harden ones skin against being scalded.
He frowns, faltering slightly. Was the judgement of being burned to ash worse than being forever turned to stone? Who was to say what actions were right or wrong anyway? Who was to say what actions were wrong enough that one could cast judgment down from above?
He shakes his head, emerald hair fluffing around his face as he tries to shove away the bad feelings. He smiles at Elise and pumps a fist excitedly into the air, "Alright! Let us investigate! To find out if there is anything truly going on out here! And explore every last corner that we can!"
