A commonly overlooked symptom of depression is anhedonia, the inability to feel joy or pleasure. The reason that it's easy to overlook is that it's easier to miss the absence of something that's not around all the time than it is to miss a symptom that causes active distress, such as feeling tired and miserable all the time.

Anhedonia is good at being a persistent undercurrent to your life. My aunt, who has major depressive disorder, related to me that she figured out that something was wrong when she looked at the daffodils she had planted blooming, and couldn't recognize the emotion that she felt when she looked at them. It had been long enough since she had felt happy that she lost the ability to recognize the emotion.

It's a particularly dangerous depressive symptom, because it robs you of the ability to feel those little spots of joy that keep a lot of people going, while not doing anything to impair your ability to function. If you don't know that this is a treatable symptom of depression, it's easy to assume that your ability to feel good is permanently broken, and decide to commit suicide because you don't want to live like that. It's not an irrational conclusion, but it is an uninformed one, and everyone deserves to have all the information when making a major decision.

This is what a lot of questionnaires are trying to look for when they ask about "loss of enjoyment". If you can't remember a loss of enjoyment because you can't remember enjoyment, then you probably have anhedonia. If you struggle to define how it is to feel "happy", "content", or "good", or how it feels when you feel those emotions, you probably have anhedonia. If you can't remember feeling any of those emotions for a week or more, you probably have anhedonia.

Symptoms commonly co-occurring with anhedonia are fatigue (often the cause), clear and thoughtful consideration of suicide, loss of desire to socialize or do activities that used to make you happy, and weight loss (due to lack of enjoyment of food).

This section is anecdotal. In what I have observed, anhedonia due to fatigue rarely responds well to depression treatment unless depression was causing the fatigue. If fatigue and anhedonia are co-occurring and are not both alleviated by depression treatment, consider other causes for the fatigue.

I’m putting together a book of all the short comics I’ve drawn over the past year to have for sale at my spring conventions! Not sure what the title will be yet, but the uniting themes of all the stories seem to be Girls and Magic.

I drew this selkie comic really fast and it bounced all around tumblr which was cool, but the messy lettering and simple coloring bugged me so I cleaned it up a bit.

playing around with an older form but giving it a new texture and glaze. it's interesting trying to translate the forms i usually underglaze into textured glazed forms. they need to be treated quite differently and don't always want to make the switch

I finally drew my kintype! It took some time to find what felt right, but I'm happy with the result. I'm not sure what kind of dragon I am outside of being a feathered one, so if anyone more versed in dragonology can identify my kintype I'd appreciate it!

My kintype is cold blooded, with birdlike feet to grab prey and perch on branches. Building dens in caves feels right; as I've made dens since I was a little kid. My kintype is an omnivore, my main diet being berries, fish, certain plants, and the occasional deer or elk. My ideal environment is a temperate forest with mountains and rivers.

My kintype doesn't do much roaring; they live in large groups called clans and communicate mainly through birdlike chirps and squeaks. They are very social creatures, with a high regard for their clan. They build large burrows (like rabbits) and have different rooms set aside for different things. Some are dedicated to food storage, while some are used as community nests.

When you were sent to slay a dragon you didn't expect the deadly thing that you bared witness to. You expected a medium sized creature, with a body like a crocodile, instead something much stranger and more ancient was what you were met with. A massive entity, with dozens of snake like heads, on a body bigger then a fortress, with massive wings like an angel, living in a pit that leads all the way down to the lands of the dead.

When you pointed your sword to it it didn't react. It didn't attack you. It just watched. When you stabbed it it didn't notice. Your sword couldn't cut its scales, and your arrows couldn't break its belly. You felt so very small, after having felt so powerful for far too long a time. Its burning eyes were just looking at you, a hundred burning eyes all seeing you as so small.

It could have killed you without effort, but instead of breathing fire it breathed smoke, and put you to a dreamers sleep, until you woke up somewhere deeper and darker within its lair. It kept you safe, for it decided it better that you should live.

The dragon spoke to you softly with its many mouths, and told you that you were not a fool even if you have been fooled. The riches of kings and glory of murder have made you into a creature that is not what humanity evolved to be. It pet you gently with a hand that was larger then your entire body, and told you it would cause you no harm as long as you made no attempt to harm it.

It told you that it sheds its heads and grows them back just as sharks shed teeth and humans shed eyelashes. So you could take one of its many discarded heads back to your king, and win the lords bounty for having 'slain' it, just like all the other poor boys who've tried to make their fortune slaying dragons.
