i think its a matter of taste. technically, you only mash left click for normals, but i personally hate benny circle. just play her trial to see for yourself if you like it or not i guess

Yae being the one to send Sara into the mountains is mentioned in the Kagura’s Verity item description:

I knew a young and obstinate tengu warrior, and used the pretext of "training" to bluff her into asceticism in the mountains

sara's story says

"When she obtained her Vision, she had not yet been given a name or surname.

She originally lived in a quiet mountain forest that had, from a time unknown, become plagued by great evils that robbed it of its former peace."

because it says "originally", i read it as, well, her original home. and it says she has not been yet given a name, which implies she was completely alone and haven't been to human civilization yet. bc if she already was at the shrine, ofc she'd have a name

so i read it as yae bluffing her into mountain training AFTER she already first fell, as a part of yae's general fucking around process

yeah, hu tao's charge attacks have no ICD, so you vape every hit, and with arle i had to restart a couple times to get a cool high number on the first NA combo. in a vape i think yeah, she does feel like squishier hu tao sidegrade, but in benny's circle. like hu tao may seem also fragile bc you want to play her on half health for dmg bonus, but bc she's hp scaler, her half health is like 16k, which is just normal character health, so you're not actually worse off, and you can use her burst to heal and nuke, while using arle's burst to heal is damage fall bc it consumes her bomd of life.

arle should be more versatile bc she should also work with overload, which i cant test rn, but i hope its good, but yeah, for strictly vape just choose whoever playstyle you like more, both can clear basically with same times

okay, so i maxed out Arlecchino and tested her vs Hu Tao just for funsies, this is her build

and this is Hu Tao's build

I'd say they are close enough builds to be fair, and arle's artifacts are actually kinda better asdfghjk. i didn't use homa on her bc all guides say jade spear is better

so, the main differences between them is that Arlecchino has massive spike of damage at the beggining of rotation, when her bond of life is maxed and bennet's buff is up, but with time her damage falls off as you consume the bond of life and benny's buff goes out. hu tao's damage is consistent throught the rotation.

to the actual numbers, test is against overworld saimon, here's arle vv vape (arle-kazuha-yelan-bennet), biggest hit:

keep in mind, arle's attacks have different multipliers, and this is the 6th one, the last in the attack chain, the first 5 attacks ranged from like 40 to 50 to 60k

hu tao vv vape, hu tao-kazuha-yelan-benny:

so yeah, hu tao's damage per hit is just strictly better. arle can do more hits bc she's just doing normals and hu tao is doing charge attacks, but bc all hu tao's damage is consistently high, it averages out in her favor

i'm not a sweaty gamer tho, so i don't play vv vape in the abyss, so lets look at their most comfy teams with zongli

arle-zhongli-yelan-benny, highest hit:

average is kinda 20-30-60k

hu tao - zhongli - yelan - XQ:

oh yeah, hu tao does 2 instances of dmg per charge attack, small one and then the large, in vv vape small one just got lost in all the clutter, so actually vv vape does ~200k per attack, and double hydro ~110k

bc arle's numbers vary so much, i think its not fair to just compare single hits, so i tried them in the abyss second side with comfy teams and the same abyss buff of 80 EM

arle's team killed dendro chicken in 42 seconds, from 09:06 to 08:24

hu tao's team killed it in 39 seconds, from 09:07 to 08:28

basically 2 rotations for both

next, arle killed PMA in 1 min 15 sec, from 09:03 to 07:48

hu tao killed PMA in 1 min 4 sec, from 09:11 to 08:07

actually 3 rotations for arle and 2 for hu tao. caveat is that i restarted this chamber for arle 4 times, bc i just couldn't bring PMA down in 1 rotation, but it didn't work anyway. for hu tao, i played one time and it was a mess honestly, i was finishing it on physical asdfghjk

also, i did not animation cancel for hu tao AT ALL, so if you do, her ceiling for damage goes way up. but i've seen ppl say hu tao is only great if you do the cancels and like. no. shes great even if you don't

anyway, conclusion: in vape arle is as good as badly played hu tao. i do not have cop girl, but i have high hopes that i can play overload with arle once i do. for vape i kinda prefer hu tao, bc she's not tied to a benny circle and i actually usually don't play her with shield, but in like hu tao-kazuha-yelan-XQ or mono pyro or hu tao-xq-yelan-xiangling, bc hu tao is very tanky and can heal. but i wanted to have like the fairest possible comparison, so i tested with shields, bc arle without shield feels horrible tbh

My favorite example for how terrible of a person Yae is will always be her treatment of Sara. Based on the few descriptions of young!Sara that we have she was actually pretty similar to how Kirara is now—a rambunctious but friendly and well-meaning Yōkai girl who likes to help people. At least, she was until Yae sent her away to live alone in the woods to ‘train’, then promptly gave her to the Kujou clan when she came back seriously injured but with a Vision. She sent her to the Kujou clan because she wanted them to restrain her/reign her in. Yet now that Sara’s grown up as her stoic, probably-traumatized adult self, Yae thinks she’s a stick in the mud and begins doting on Kirara for expressing similar traits to those she had previously wanted suppressed in young!Sara.

Also, Yae is teaching Kirara all about Yōkai stuff—but she wouldn’t do the same for Sara. In fact, she won’t even tell Sara that she knew her birth father!

(Also Sara still doesn’t have a Hangout, but that’s just the dev’s fault, not Yae’s).

Do you think that the end of Arlecchinos quest was weird. Like it seemed like at the end they chickened out of making her actually immoral. Like the whole "No in the end Father was the real hero and she *could* have been horrifically abusive like the previous Knave but she's not therefore she's a great father and Clervie didn't have a single problem with any of it" idk if I'm phrasing it right but I just haven't seen anyone else talk about it and you seem like you would notice.

and arle can examine her prejudices which she obv has about like she had to go to duel in snowstorm uphill both ways and kids have it too easy these days, despite also thinking they should not know how bad it was before to not provoke gratitude, and she can show that she is actually rational by being like hm. yeah true i didn't think about it this way, you're right, and then she asks the rest of kids if they want out. which is exactly end point we get rn, but like, then it has a point and development and clervie isn't a wet blanket???

that would be cool tho, like arle makes a point of not letting emotions control her, but she DOES have them, she has regrets, she has attachment to clervie, she subconsciously held her shadow in this world, but warped by her own secret desire to be forgiven. and we could have a cool scene where clervie is like okay yay<3 im so happy you killed me ur soooo great thanks! and arle is like. i know this is not real her. i know she would not approve of what i've become. but i cannot let sorrow control me. and lets the ghost go.
