grace marie garrett ( born fiorentina marie descoteux; doppelganger, deceased as of 2022 ), was the first known doppelganger of desdemona godfrey, mother to bastien and beatrice mikaelson and one of the top known hunters. in much of reality she eventually turned into an extremely mentally troubled woman.

born into a low class family and in the cold of the mountains, from a young age, grace was taught how to take and fend for herself against the harshness of the world. isolated from most others, with the nearest town being at least a couple hours walk. grace was the older sister of her younger brother, bastien. for the most part, the days were normal. surviving in the cold, and on their own, grace was well aware of wolves that lurked around their home. so did her parents. but her parents hid the fact that wolves were not the only thing that were a danger to them. grace’s mother grew particular plants, that she only ever remarked were to keep them safe. one night, grace’s parents quickly left the home, remarking that they’d be right back and to not leave the house. her brother bastien didn’t listen. for some reason, in the one split second grace wasn’t watching him, he left the safety of the house and went into the snow. grace bundled up and went after him. she never found out why he walked into the snow that night.

wherever her parents had set out to go that night, they never made it there. she found their bodies in the snow. or what was left of them. panic began to seep in, as snow began to cover the foot prints of her brother. her mother had a weapon on her, and grace had never seen her with one of them before. she didn’t understand, but with the fact that something was clearly dangerous, she took it from the snow and quickly began to search for her brother as snow continued to fall. by the time she found her brother, it was too late. and he was in the same state that their parents were. grace saw the wolf dart off, leaving large prints in the snow. but her attention was towards her brother who was severely bleeding out.

after her brother took his final breath, it pounced upon her. the encounter left grace with a scar that takes up the entirety of her back, but she was able to stab it with the weapon she’d taken off from her mother. both grace and the wolf left with scars that day. she burned their bodies when the snow let up the following day. for a few days, grace remained in her home, processing all that had happened. she didn’t know what to do, where to go. consumed with sadness, rage, then determined to make the beast pay for taking her family away from her.

her parents had clearly been keeping something from her and her brother.  she began to go through everything in the house, hoping for more information. she found a journal kept by her mother, and eventually, grace left her home. to be abandoned, to fall to pieces, she didn’t care. that was the day that she started going by grace, rather than her birth name. she tried to leave it all behind. she’s not so sure it worked, really.

grace took to hunting. she learned most through trial and error. despite being human, grace built up quite a reputation for herself.

at some point, grace encountered desdemona godfrey, the woman of who she was a doppelganger of. she was the first ever doppelganger that desdemona had ever met. and desdemona was curious. she was friendly. and grace metaphorically spit back in her face, overcome with an urge to wipe desdemona out from existence. the first meeting between them would cause desdemona to hate, and attempt to take out all of her doppelgangers after her. grace fired an arrow at her, a scar desdemona still carries, and the two began a game of cat and mouse.

eventually, grace encountered klaus mikaelson ( @sanguinelupus ), of the original family. for two people on opposite sides of the chess board, it didn’t stop the two from perusing a relationship. and klaus trusted her, loved her, and even told her about his family. when grace became pregnant, she feared klaus’s family and the enemies he had created. grace faked her own death, and months later, bastien and beatrice were born.

she kept their father a secret from them.  grace having children didn’t stop her from perusing the revenge she so wanted from her family, but she also wasn’t against teaching her children how to keep themselves safe. however, at a young age, bastien was kidnapped. despite everything she had done, it wasn’t enough. and beatrice never, ever, forgave her for that. beatrice would grow up with an estranged relationship with her mother, which only got worse when beatrice discovered who her father was and what grace had kept from her.

beatrice and grace both dedicated what they had to finding bastien, however. but it wasn’t the only thing on grace’s mind. her priorities were finding bastien, finding the creature responsible for her family’s slaughter, and tracking down desdemona. her hunting priorities outweighed taking care of her children, and providing them a stable life.

at some point, grace was in new orleans. her quick presence there would eventually lead to the mikaelson family calling the city home, despite the fact that klaus never found her there.

new orleans grew to be a big bustle of activity for supernatural creatures and beings. and eventually, desdemona showed up there. and in turn, grace. beatrice was there. it was the first time grace, beatrice, and klaus had ever been in the same room together. and it went as well as you could have expected it to go. klaus was furious with her, and he had every right to be. but grace also allowed him to see the inside of her head. just what was happening in there. that something wasn’t right. it didn’t excuse her actions. but she wanted him to understand. and she wanted him to end her constant misery. in reality - grace had been mentally tormented by the entity responsible for desdemona's immortality almost the entire time she'd been alive mostly for it's own amusement. her mind hadn't been her own in years.

grace was mercy killed by klaus, and put to rest. what she had of belonging went to either klaus, beatrice, and bastien. she specifically gifted her bow and arrow to klaus out of sentimental reasons, and personal reasons. she gave her journals to bastien.

➤ her eldest, bastien, is named after her deceased brother. ➤ she never found the wolf responsible for the murder of her family. ➤ had a large werewolf claw scar over the entirety of her back. ➤ she was a terrible mother. some people just shouldn't have children, but also combined with her mind being basically inhabited, she couldn't think straight. and never had the nerve to ask for help until it was too late.

reynard ( trickster deity, alive ? ), was desdemona's first "boyfriend" and also responsible for desdemona's first ever death - at his hands. much of his history is unknown, even to desdemona who can be described as someone who "knew" him the most. out of a small number of deity's still alive, reynard could be considered the outcast of them. quite literally - cast out.

after being cast out, reynard had the idea of gaining more power to get his revenge. and this idea of his was having extremely powerful children - and using them to his whims. but his fraternization with regular humans often resulted in the mother's death - unable to handle the pregnancy of his children. that is until he discovered desdemona and her immortality.

he began to manipulate her feelings, showing her sweet affection she had never had, which only furthered her "love" for him. he is the father of desdemona's first two children, which eventually didn't make it due to reynard's abuse.

when desdemona finally realized the situation she was in after her children's death, she fled from him. she'd eventually meet the witch delphina - who realized that she was fleeing from something and was more incredibly scared than she let on. she learned of reynard and desdemona's history with him and began to work on something to keep him contained and from going after her.

using desdemona's heart, her blood, the sacrifice of many, and a dark object, ( and almost killing herself in the process ), delphina locked reynard up. which he has remained for centuries. the dark object containing him is one of the many variations and inspirations for what would become elliot's pandora's box. delphina keeps said box, and by association, reynard, in her possession. it helps ease some of desdemona's worries.

he is incredibly impulsive, murderous, and powerful in his "tricks" ( which usually end in death ). he murdered an entire party's worth of people when originally meeting desdemona, simply for his own entertainment. he is literally all red flags. not a single green flag in sight. as a deity, delphina was unsure if he could be killed, which is why she created something to try and contain him which still almost killed her due to magic overload.

➤ reynard was eventually "caged" by a spell the witch delphina d'aurville cooked up and used extremely powerful ingredients to do so, and almost killed her due to magic overload in the process. it's a part of the reason desdemona and delphina are still close regardless. ➤ he will eventually get free - going after desdemona's new child, viktoria. a unique demon and witch hybrid with power uncontrolled and untamed. this will obviously put him into elliot's crosshairs, and tug at elliot's own desire to have more power - and reynard is a walking billboard of it. ➤ despite his abuse of her, reynard quite very much is obsessive and views desdemona as "his" and that he made her as she is. ➤ he has twin curved daggers he uses to kill people. desdemona has had them in her possession since. he will steal them back when he makes his return. outside of his hands, they are cursed objects.

abigail godfrey ( witch; resurrected ), is the middle child of the godfrey family, and the favorite of isabella. she is the older sister to tobias godfrey, and younger sister to desdemona. desdemona used her life in exchange for her immortality deal. she is an aunt to ase, ursa, and henrik ( tobias’s children ) and sergius and viktoria ( desdemona’s children ). she is not percival’s biological child but rather the result of an affair between her mother and another man. her actions and being so close to her mother is what created desdemona’s deep seething resentment towards her.

from a young age abigail was under her mother’s manipulation. anything her mother viewed, she shoved those views onto her prized child. mostly this included isabella’s feelings and hatred of desdemona. abigail would begin to take part in this hatred towards her older sister, but a part of her also knew that if her mother hated her so much – she didn’t want to enact her ire when her mother seemingly adored her.

things would continue like this for abigail’s entire childhood, with her being a completely dependent “momma’s girl” and following her around like a puppy. desdemona’s jealousy and feelings would eventually result in her murdering abigail. abigail’s blood as a witch and a sacrifice would help desdemona get her immortality deal. and abigail’s death would result in tobias feeling the household, setting them on their path to becoming a vampire and the grudge that desdemona would then hold against them.

and abigail would remain deceased for hundreds of years, lingering on the otherside as a ghost.

when the veil was momentarily down ( the vampire diaries ) abigail made it a point to come back and terrorize her sister as much as she possibly could for the first time. having gained that kinda access between worlds, abigail set it her goal to revive herself and her body.

for this, abigail would whisper into the ear of another witch. one that she..felt close to. felt a connection to. marjorie felwick was a young woman who was lost on her own after her mother died, leaving her grieving, and was as abigail viewed it, a perfect opportunity. using what magic and connections she could from the other side, abigail manipulated marjorie to feel sympathy for her, and to tap into her magic and help bring her back – with abigail’s help of course.

marjorie would be able to successfully bring abigail from the veil and back into her body. she would later learn of some of the "mistruths" abigail had told her, but also she felt connected, and that she could trust abigail. it would result in the two being distrustful of each other, but at each other’s side none the less. something else was forming between them.

one of the first things abigail did when feeling well enough to – was to bring her mother back. which would result in her and isabella attempting to “fix” their family, mainly what they viewed to be tobias’s and desdemona’s indiscretions. this ends with isabella being killed for a second time when she attempts to take tobias’s children away from them, and abigail flees the city and goes under the radar.

while she seemingly vanished, abigail takes to staying under the same roof as marjorie. someone she feels safe with, close with, and the only person who has been at her side and heard her side of the stories. she begins to realize the things she feels for marjorie are romantic in nature and she deals with the inner conflict of knowing her mother would hate her as much as she hated her siblings if she were to indulge in her feelings. it is marjorie's persuasion that gets abigail to reach back out to her siblings years later.

➤ abigail eventually figures out that her mother not only lied about her father, but also killed him. which drives a wedge between them. this wedge is furthered increased when isabella learns that abigail likes girls, and abigail overhears her mother talking about her in a disappointed manner. ➤ after isabella’s death at the hands of tobias, abigail seemingly vanishes off the grid. she is exceptionally well at avoiding death and those who would want to see her dead. ➤ she is an extremely powerful witch. though abigail spent much of her time deceased, she spent much time observing magic and mingling with other spirits. she is very knowledgeable and tries to remain in control of her emotions. however there are glimpses of a little girl distressed inside. her magic can often get out of control if she lets it. ➤ due to being recently deceased and only alive for a few years in the modern century, abigail doesn’t quite get most references, and things about the modern era. she talks and often dresses in an “out of time placement” fashion. ➤ abigail’s body ( or more so her bones ) were originally buried on the godfrey’s family home’s plot of land. burying her body was one of the last things tobias did before they fled. ➤ she is extremely closeted, likely due to her mother. she has dealt with severe internal homophobia, and it caused complications with her feelings towards marjorie. she is currently working on that – and taking careful steps into the water of a relationship with her. ➤ upon finally being able to separate herself from her mother and her manipulations, abigail goes on to learn how to be her own person, alive, and mend her relationships with her siblings. though that will take time, and actions proving that. ➤ her presence can often be warned by the appearance of death moths.

isabella ( belmont ) godfrey ( witch; deceased but has a habit of not staying dead ), is the matriarch of the godfrey family, wife to percival, and mother of desdemona, tobias and abigail godfrey. she is the grandmother of ase, ursa, henrik ( tobias's children ), sergius and viktoria. ( desdemona's children ) she is the catalyst for the family. born the youngest of four children, isabella was also one of those gifted with the ability of witchcraft.

but isabella's ambition and desires would twist that ability and isabella would become one of the nastiest, and phobic people to ever exist. if it's not about her, or her wishes or how she wants things, it is a grave error. isabella originally used magic to force love between herself, and desdemona and tobias's father, percival for his status. this would result in isabella's connection to magic being cut off forever. isabella is far from mother material, being heavily abusive to all her children in different manors. from downright ignoring, neglecting and physically abusing desdemona, to mentally and emotionally manipulating abigail since her birth.

while isabella had her relationship with percival for his status essentially, isabella did have a shred of kindness and sweetness in her life. she fell in love with someone who was just as poor as she had been, jack. she began an affair with him ( which is in surprise considering percival was likely having his own affairs ), but the affair would result in the birth of abigail godfrey. which isabella would play off as percival's child. jack was no idiot and attempted to get isabella to leave with him and their child. she shot this down, wanting to keep her comfortable life. she made the wrong decision now, she knows that. but at the time it was right to her. regardless, abigail was her favorite and "could do no wrong" child, while she still abused her other two children and it only got worse over the years as they grew into teenagers. when jack threatened to out abigail as his child and not percivals, and ruin isabella's web of lies, she murdered him.

the godfrey home life was a complete mess, and something neither desdemona or tobias prefer to talk about. history goes as it does, with desdemona eventually snapping and murdering abigail for her immortality and tobias fleeing his family and elder sister out of fear.

at some point isabella eventually had her first death. neither desdemona or tobias know what happened due to their lack of relationship. though this was after tobias had come back home after being made into a vampire and murdered percival.

cut to mid two thousands, and abigail godfrey has been brought back to life. and one of the first things she does to cause strife with her siblings is to bring back their mother, someone she loves and adores and cannot see her mother's manipulation. isabella is even more so disappointed in the lives her children lead, and makes it her goal to make things right, and "fix" them. this is mostly isabella's homophobia towards both desdemona and tobias being in queer relationships. isabella causes problems, with abigail being able to do magic and act as the protection over them both. it isn't until tobias has their children and isabella attempts to take them that she ends up deceased at the hands of tobias for her second death. as far as godfrey family members go, she is one that there is little empathy or redemption for. she's a vile woman through and through. her death at tobias's hands shortly after their children were born has kept her dead -- for now. which unironically means tobias has killed both of their parents. at least once.

isabella is incredibly self centered, narcissist, manipulative and there is no limits to the things she will do. she even attempted to take tobias's children to "raise them better" than what she viewed tobias would do. she also attempted to destroy the queer relationships both tobias and desdemona were in and attempted to get tobias's back under her thumb by using her relationship as their mother to her advantage ( it didn't work ). if you think you can appeal to her and get her to do the "right thing" you cannot. the only thing that has been used against her and worked is threatening to harm abigail, will usually get isabella to back down. that is until she discovers that abigail is into girls, and only girls.

➤ abigail will eventually find out the truth about her father. and while being alive without her mother's influence, she'll finally get used to not being under her mother's constant manipulation. leading to her own path of discovery. and perhaps - eventually, mending the relationships she has with her siblings. although her and desdemona's relationship will be the hardest for obvious reasons. ➤ she's made the remark that she never wanted children in the first place. espeically when they all turned out to be disappointments ( except for abigail ) which she finds out isn't true either because abigail is an extremely closeted lesbian. ➤ isabella had little involvement in tobias's life as a parent, with him being greatly controlled and abused by percival. isabella has attempted to use tobias's desire to want to have a relationship with their mother to manipulate them. it didn't work. ➤ isabella had three older siblings, all who wanted nothing to do with her when they realized why her magic was stripped away. she was out casted from her family but in her eyes she gained something so much more valuable with percival's status. her older siblings all remained respectful belmont witches to their deaths. ➤ she's remarked to not having a great relationship with her own mother. desdemona laughed in her face. though this was true. one of four children with the ability to do magic ( and different ambitions between the four of them ), isabella was almost always scolded for what she wanted to do with magic - something her mother found extremely disrespectful. and a severe reason her mother disowned her when she found out what isabella did to "earn" percival's love and attention.

i think the way elliot treats his wife and gives her his undying love, attention and support is a big marker for how des's personality slowly evolves to being better ( along with alot of other things ) but. that too.

desdemona currently has two children alive, though early in her life she experience a miscarriage of twins.

two unamed children with trickster deity reynard: the first children desdemona would have had, these two would have been immensely powerful. being the children of a deity, reynard took interest in desdemona for singular reason that her immortality would allow her to handle the pregnancy of his children. he was a complete asshole otherwise, emotionally and physically. this abuse is a reason why desdemona lost these children, toppled with her own distress. they are currently represented by white roses in desdemona's green house. sergius godfrey: a child she had during the roman empire. his father was a gladiator and someone desdemona did genuinely love. he died quite soon after sergius's birth. sergius has no extra abilities besides his immortality from his mother. viktoria warlow: in the timeline, currently very young or a newborn. viktoria is the first child between herself and her husband, elliot. viktoria is extremely powerful having abilities from both her mother and her father.
