all the shit people on the internet say abt jk rowling tarnishing her legacy (DeStRoYiNg HeR rEpUtAtIoN) is really really funny to think about standing in line in a packed harry potter store where 90% of the people don't use twitter and don't give a shit lmao
me: is this observation i'm making about men too mean?
men:
daily reminder that like a whole lot of male saints are on record saying misogynistic shit
"any woman who does not give birth to as many children as she is capable is guilty of murder" - st augustine
"woman is defective and misbegotten" - st thomas aquinas
"the [female] is weak and fickle" -st john chrysostom
"the woman together with her own husband is the image of God so that that whole substance may be one image; but when she is referred separately to her quality of help-meet, which regards the woman herself alone, then she is not the image of God" -st augustine
"women's very consciousness of their own nature must evoke feelings of shame" - st clement of alexandria
"it is still Eve the temptress that we must beware of in any woman… i fail to see what use woman can be to man, if one excludes the function of bearing children." - st augustine
"woman is a misbegotten man and has a faulty and defective nature in comparison to his. therefore she is unsure in herself. what she cannot get, she seeks to obtain through lying and diabolical deceptions. and so, to put it briefly, one must be on one’s guard with every woman, as if she were a poisonous snake and the horned devil... her feelings drive woman toward every evil, just as reason impels man toward all good" - st albertus magnus
"woman is the root of all evil." - st jerome
"it does not profit a man to marry. for what is a woman but an enemy of friendship, an inescapable punishment, a necessary evil, a natural temptation, a domestic danger, delectable mischief, a fault in nature" - st john chrysostom
"so by such a kind of subjection woman is naturally subject to man, because in men the discretion of reason predominates" - st thomas aquinas
"woman is less qualified for moral behavior. for the woman contains more liquid than man, and it is a property of liquid to take things up easily and to hold unto them poorly. liquids are easily moved, hence women are inconstant and curious. when a woman has relations with a man, she would like, as much as possible, to be lying with another man at the same time. woman knows nothing about fidelity." - st albertus magnus
and this is a small collection. i'm just tired of all the idolization of saints
I'm curious, since transphobes think penis=man and vagina=woman, how can they tell apart mermaids from mermen? Merpeople definitely don't have penises or vaginas. Moreover if woman=adult human female and adult human female only, does that mean that elfs of the gestating sex aren't women, but another secret elf gender? Because elfs aren't humans. Neither are ogres btw, so who's gonna go tell Fiona that she's not a woman? Any volunteers? It's almost like word definitions aren't concrete things set in stone but just a learning tool, and that words can mean many different things depending on the context because language is complex, just like gender and about every other part of the human experience. HUMAN, just like trans people.
lesbians have a moral right to lives free from violence and we have a moral right to fall in love with each other and build cozy little lives together with our loves
i just want to fall in love with a girl and be happy and not have that be a controversial thing so unfathomable to everyone else that they think they need to rape, beat, torture, or murder me in response. the bar is low.
The number of trans people I know of who have presented this exact story (or a similar one involving the same amount of praying but with less demons) as some kind of gotcha where they pull one over on their homophobic family is… Well it's not zero :/
sorry to have to be the one to tell you this but trans women are predominantly narcissistic abusive men whose ex wives are the ones needing shelter services
The story goes that millennials lived, laughed, and loved their way into an unprecedentedly insipid environment, turning once-gritty cities into Instagram-friendly dispensaries of baroque ice cream cones that call back, madeleine-style, to the enfolding warmth of their suburban childhoods. But the contemporary built environment is not the millennials’ legacy; it is their inheritance. They didn’t ask for cardboard modernism — they simply capitulate to its infantilizing aesthetic paradigm because there is no alternative.
but also... It's a mix, isn't it? Yeah corporations stopped offering us alternatives, but were we buying the alternatives when we still had them?
The Josh’s steel railings are gray, and its plastic window sashes are a slightly clashing shade of gray. Inside, the floors are made of gray TimberCore, and the walls are painted an abject post-beige that interior designers call greige but is in fact just gray. Gray suffuses life beyond architecture: television, corporate logos, product packaging, clothes for babies, direct-to-consumer toothbrushes. What incentives — material, libidinal, or otherwise — could possibly account for all this gray? In 2020, a study by London’s Science Museum Group’s Digital Lab used image processing to analyze photographs of consumer objects manufactured between 1800 and the present. They found that things have become less colorful over time, converging on a spectrum between steel and charcoal, as though consumers want their gadgets to resemble the raw materials of the industries that produce them. If The Man in the Gray Flannel Suit once offered a warning about conformity, he is now an inspiration, although the outfit has gotten an upgrade. Today he is The Man in the Gray Bonobos, or The Man in the Gray Buck Mason Crew Neck, or The Man in the Gray Mack Weldon Sweatpants — all delivered via gray Amazon van. The imagined color of life under communism, gray has revealed itself to be the actual hue of globalized capital.
