Southern Vermont Golf
Vermont is known for a few things: It’s beautiful, scenic countryside, fall foliage, delicious beer, and great skiing in the winter.
But when people come to Vermont in the summer for a relaxing getaway, they often times forget to pack their golf clubs.
Southern Vermont is home to variety of courses that will challenge any skill level. If you thought skiing in Southern Vermont was tough, wait til you play some of the courses.
Eight courses are within reach of the Southern Vermont's best bed and breakfast -- the Fullerton Inn -- with a well struck driver. Let’s take a look at some of the courses.
Tumblr media
Tater Hill – Just a 15 minute ride, Tater Hill is part of Okemo Mountain Resort, which also runs Okemo Valley. This course though is a challenging 6,400 yard course features lots of rolling hills that features lots of nature’s beauty, with wetlands, gardens and tree-lined fairways. A few of the greens were recently redesigned, as the course is challenge to the low handicapped players, but also playable for the beginners. For rates, which are very reasonable, click here.
Okemo Valley – The excellence that you would expect from the famed Okemo Mountain Ski Resort, is the same for this public course. With accolades like Golf Digest’s vote for best public course in Vermont in 2011, listed on Golfweek’s Best Courses you can Play, this scenic course is a par 70, and features the elevation change you’d expect in Southern Vermont. With the Green Mountains serving as your backdrop, it’s truly one of Vermont’s best courses. For rates, click here.
Woodstock Country Club – If Okemo Valley isn’t Vermont’s best courses, then Woodstock Country Club may take the cake. Named one of the worlds "top 100 golf resorts" by Golf Magazine, it features challenging play with sand traps and water hazards abound -- and that's not mentioning Vermont’s rolling hills. Prices are expensive -- $89/109 weekday/weekend rate, but after 3 p.m. the price drops to $49/59. It's a once in a lifetime course.
Crown Point Country Club – This member owned golf course in Weathersfield, only 25 minutes away, allows public play with tee times, and it’s something the public has greatly appreciated. Bent grass lines the picturesque fairways and greens,  and with 6,125 yards from the white tees, this makes it a worthy course for all levels of golfers. Great $35/$50 weekday/weekend rates, or any time after 4 p.m. play for $22/$25. Are you an active clergy or military serviceman or woman? Play for only $8.50.
Tumblr media
Killington Resort – It’s a long drive away (45 mins), but like skiing at this resort, it’s totally worth it. In the heart of the Green Mountains lies Killington Resort golf course, making for some elevation changing and blind shots. The Roaring Brook meanders through eight holes for some added beauty and hazards. It’s a challenging course, but rates are reasonable at $50/60 weekday/weekend, with a $39 twilight starting at 2 p.m. The course is expected to open May 24.
Green Mountain National Golf Course – Very close to Killington, it offers the same, scenic, yet challenging natural beauty of the Green Mountains. Hole 16 is the gem of the course, so take it in, or take a picture and make your friends jealous. Rates start at $49/59 weekday/weekend until June 20, then rates increase to $59/69.
Stratton Mountain -- With Stratton Mountain serving as the backdrop, this 27-hole course is one of Vermont's prettiest and challenging courses. The course once hosted six LPGA tournaments, so you know the caliber of the course is first class. It's just 40 minutes Southwest of Chester, but well worth the trip. Click here for rates.
http://www.clublarkin.com/  – If you’re just looking to get a quick round in, JP Larkin offers a challenging nine hole course in Windsor, just 40 minutes north. It offers the slopes and beauty you’d expect from a Vermont course, with half the holes. $15/20 weekend/weekday rates make it reasonable, or if you love the course, play 18 holes for $25/30.
So don't forget to pack your clubs when you come to spend a weekend at the Fullerton Inn. Instead of making ski trips to Vermont in the winter, you'll be adding golf trips in the summer.

Time to ski!
The hustle and bustle of the holidays are finally over and now it’s time to enjoy some time on the mountain!
The Fullerton Inn is located within an hour to six, that’s, right six of the best ski venues in North America, including the world renown Killington Mountain, which is home to the largest ski area East of the Mississippi  -- 141 trails and 22 lifts. We’re just 40 minutes from Killington.
Here’s the list of ski resorts we’re near.
Killington – 40 min drive. Killington is one of the most recognized ski resorts in the East, it ranks No. 7 this year on Skinet.com’s 2013 ski resort guide. There’s a reason it’s nicknamed the Beast of the East for a reason. It has lots of challenging trials and really has something for everyone.
Pico Mountain – 50 mins. Pico is kind of like Killington’s little brother as it’s only down the road. But ever ski resort in Vermont is kind of like Killington’s little brother. It features a big mountain with small hill charm.
Stratton Mountain – 35 mins. – Skinet.com pegged Stratton as the sixth best resort in 2011-2012, and No. 14 on its resort guide in 2013. No matter how dry or unseasonably the winter season brings, Stratton does a fantastic job of getting the mountain ready in any conditions.
Bromley – Sun Mountain -- 30 mins. A half hour drive to a place where kids can ski for just $15? It’s a steal. And $49 for an allday pass during the week is worth it too. Eight lifts is enough to have fun.
Magic Mountain – 15 mins. The closest place to ski from our bed and breakfast is just down the road in Londonberry. The ski resort had fallen on rough times, but its revival is worth visiting. Four li
Okemo Ski – 20 mins. Skinet.com has Okemo ranked as its fourth best ski resort in the East in the 2011-2012 season, and No. 15 for ski resorts in 2013 -- and it’s just 20 minutes away. They do a lot of grooming so the trails are great for those looking to enjoy a nice, easy run instead of a challenge that other mountains provide.
There’s no better way to spend your time skiing than with us. We’re a close, scenic drive to any of these ski venues, plus, you get to enjoy a quaint and quiet atmosphere at a southern Vermont Bed and Breakfast without the hustle and bustle of a huge ski resort like Killington, Okemo or Stratton.
