Today I made a new friend! Really, I think half the reason I keep going to concerts here is for the social part of it. I’ve met some of the nicest, sweetest people at concerts in Tokyo.
Already excited about going again next week! ^^

I am a bad bad blog-keeper
I haven’t updated for... 4 months? I am so so sorry.
This whole “writing about all the things I’m doing” is really hard, so I think I’m gonna keep it to small stories instead of huge updates.
However, you’re always free to ask about what I’m doing. And also to follow my twitter or Instagram where I’m slightly more active!

Was going for a few quiet drinks...
... ends up staying out until 7am.
Me and some friends from school wanted to do something fun on friday night, so we planned to go to  Shinjuku Golden Gai. This is a place known for tiny tiny pubs, in fact there are as many as 270 squeezed into 7 small streets.
We were a gang of 8, so we ended up having to go to completely empty pubs and just filling them completely up. The pub we went to had a old school movie theme, so there were posters everywhere, and loads of cd’s and dvds. Super cosy.

We were having such a good time, that some of us decided to go crazy and not take the last train home - but rather party all night.
Ended up having great fun, went to both clubs and karaoke. I sang several songs I had never heard before with people I didn’t know (when life gives you a microphone - sometimes you just have to improvise), talked and laughed and met some new people.
By 6am me feet was killing me and I took one of the first trains home (which was already packed with both people like me heading home and business people on their way to work).
All of Saturday my whole body hated me, both for drinking for 12 hours straight and for staying up all night. Pretty much the hangover from hell. I Finally got out of bed by 6pm, took a shower and ate a little, and went back to bed at midnight. Was that my body’s discrete way of telling me I needed some rest?!

"I'm probably not gonna get interviewed" I said, and boy oh boy I was wrong! The staff at my school said that the camera crew was gonna stay in the third floor to film the classes there, and interview people who knew more Japanese, but I guess they changed their mind. Our entire last hour were filmed while we were told "just continue like they weren't there". It is freaking impossible to try to look cool and cute for a camera while stuttering out bad sentences in Japanese!!!! AAAND THEN I had signed up for a cooking class done by one of the teachers at school, AND DONT YOU THINK THE CAMERA CREW WAS THERE AS WELL?! However distracting I still manage to make some lovely kazari norimaki (will post photo in a sec) ... And then obviously after we had eaten they wanted an interview with me! "Just speak as much Japanese as you can" they said and asked me how it was. "Oishii desu" I said... And then they realized they needed to do the rest of the interview in English! ...it also included me writing in katakana (THAT I HAVEN'T EVEN LEARNED YET) and me blushing a lot!

friday
Had such a busy and fun Friday I thought i’d write a little about it. Started with a good day at school, on Fridays we have Usui-sensei and she makes everything fun. Even a grammer test wasn’t too bad (even if I only got 85%, which was annoying as I got minus 10 for writing “to GO home” instead of “to COME home” and -5 for writing an I instead of an U, but OH WELL).
After school, we’ve become a little gang who often goes out for lunch. At most places around our school you can get a huge lunch from anywhere between 500 and 1100 yen (30 - 75 NOK / 2,5 - 5 pounds) which is often cheaper than making it yourself, so why not.
Time is ticking towards 2 in the afternoon so why WOULDN’T we buy some drinks and go to Karaoke?! What a great way to shake things up after a long week! After singing for about 3 hours, it was time for a change of scenery so we walked to Tokyo Dome where they have a small amusement park. The rollercoster they have there called the Thunder Dophin is one CRAZY ride. It’s over 80 meters tall, and runs through a part of a mall, and through a ferris wheel.

Also finally got to do a photobooth thingy who are so popular here. It’s like a tiny room you can maybe 5 or 6 people in there, and it makes you “prettier” (which really just means overly photoshoppes), and after you’re done you can add things and edit some more. It’s great fun. Naive as we were we said that we were 5, but instead of giving us 1 paper each, it gave us 5 TINY copies on one piece of paper - but i still love it!

Suddenly there was evening and we ended up in Shinjuku at a gaming bar, where they had all these fun Nintendo stuff, and you could play mario cart by the bar. The bartenders were super nice, and even complimented our (drunken attempt at) japanese.
The only downside to my fantastic friday was that even though i got the last train home it terminated two stops away from where i live. Now that doesn’t sound like THAT much, but it was a longer walk than i wanted to do alone at 1 in the morning. And obviously I didn’t understand that the train was terminating, so I just politely stood there waiting for the train to start moving again, when a slightly older business man came up to me. I thought it was borderline rude when he said that I had to get off the train, and even ruder when he started to talk about hotels (I might have had a couple of drinks but I sure wasn’t going to some sleezy hotel with a stranger from the train). But after a long and confusing 10 minute conversation (my drunken japanese is far from as good as the bartenders told me), I understood that he was telling me that there were no more trains, and could point me to several cheap all-girl hotels/hostel if it was hard for me to get home.
I was tired and cold and explained that I didn’t live too far away, so he kindly walked me to the taxi stop, and after about half an hour in the taxi queue and a 15 minutes drive I got safely home.
Next time I’ll make sure to take an earlier train home!

Are cameras following me?
By popular request I’m updating! WOHO!
I already wrote about my shocking first meeting with Tokyo airport having three guys with a camera wanting to talk to me.
Well, last week I was in Shibuya, buying shoes and CD’s and whatnot (really trendy area - love it), when a super happy enthusiastic woman and a camera man runs up to me wanting to do a short interview. As the positive sunshine I am I always try to - ofcourse I said yes,
Wasn’t a big deal, just a couple of questions about what I liked about Japan, my favorite japanese food, and things and what other cities I wanted to see. ... I almost said that my favorite japanese thing was starbucks because I had just been there enjoing a matcha frappechino, BUT i saved myself. The interview will be posted sometime online during the next month - I did get the link, but can’t remember where i put it! If I find it I’ll post it.
Tumblr media
I asked if I could take a photo with the interviewer as a memory. She thought that was funny - but she said yes.
She also said I look like Japanese singer and superstar Becky, but I think that’s just a normal compliment they say to white girls when trying to be nice. NONE THE LESS, I’m taking it as a super compliment, and pretending it means that if I wanted to I could totally be a superstar.
Tumblr media
Now there is a camera crew coming to my language school tomorrow to do a story about japanese language schools and foreigners. I’m probably not gonna get interviewed, but it will air on national tv in april, so maybe I’ll be in the background or something! haha!
