#6 tsunami

Behind her, panting defiantly, was the SeaWing dragonet, Tsunami. A red-gold scale was caught between her sharp white teeth. She spat it out and glared at their teacher.

“Stop picking on Clay,” Tsunami growled. “Or I’ll bite you again.” Her deep blue scales shimmered like cobalt glass in the torchlight. The gills on her long neck were pulsing like they always did when she was angry.

who DOESN’T adore tsunami? powerful, loyal, and angry

her design is pretty standard although i always have trouble imagining the starburst swirls royal seawings have so i just kinda.... went for it. what more can you do?

#5 clay

Clay didn’t think he was the right dragon for a Big Heroic Destiny.

Oh, he wanted to be. He wanted to be the MudWing savior of the dragon world, glorious and brave. He wanted to do all the wonderful things expected of him. He wanted to look at the world, figure out was broken and fix it.

But he wasn’t a natural-hatched hero.

everyone’s favourite kind heroic boy!!! i love clay so much he is SO SWEET but im sure everyone does. also the first dragon who isn’t facing to the left because of the side his scar is on haha /sweats

i also wanted to make him Soft and Chumby and Powerful and i think i succeeded?

“I stand with the Talons of Peace,” hissed a voice in the shadows. “Kestrel? Is that you?”

“We await the wings of fire,” answered the red dragon. A blue-green SeaWing emerged from a side cave, and she tossed the eggshell at his feet. “Not that it’ll do us much good now,” she snarled. “Hvitur is dead.”

webs!! poor webs. poor pathetic webs. the best of the guardians for the DOD but thats not saying much. i accidentally put his scar on his belly at first before realising it was on his tail, i gotta say it looks much less dramatic but i want to be accurate with that kind of thing.

also he has floppy fins which i imagine happens when seawings are depressed/sick. i think other dragon’s spines would also droop but it’s only really noticeable on seawings and sandwings

#3 kestrel

Some time later, far below, a large dragon the colour of rust crawled over the rocks to the broken body of the ice dragon.

you really recognise the strength of kestrel’s characterisation when you realise she was only alive for one book and yet she feels like she’s there the whole series.

getting her design down was hard, i needed her to be scary and threatening but not in a villainous way, but more in a tired and angry way. it’s all about the eyes man.

#2 queen burn

The enormous dragon on the mountain ledge had pale gold scales that radiated heat like a desert horizon. Her black eyes narrowed, watching the gleam of silver wings far up in the clouds.

i LOVE this evil old lady and her design is so fun... i gave her a grey mane with an army-style cut to showcase her brutal militaristic nature. the scars were also really fun to do, its cool to have irregular bumps/dents in the skin, makes her feel more 3d

#1 hvitur!

A dragon was trying to hide in the storm.

Lightning flickered across the dark clouds. Hvitur clutched his fragile cargo closer. If he could make it over the mountains, he’d be safe.

this is a simple design because i was initially going to make these designs animator friendly but then i kind of forgot that with #2 so this sweet boy will be the outlier

i gave hvitur a yellowish tinge since he’s described as “moon-pale” and moons are kinda yellowy.... ya!

hello and welcome to my new blog where i’m gonna post a design for every wings of fire dragon in the order they make an “on screen” appearance in the books! i’m not sure if anyone else has done it in this order, but i’m planning on making a page which has the list order if anyone else wants to try it/follow along!

there is no need to request canon characters as I am planning on doing all of them, unless you believe there is one I have missed!

also this is my wof-sona, a sandwing called hyena! i might post other wof fanart here including ocs, and at some point may even have oc requests, but not currently as i am super busy.
