So, I know I just talked about the Old Capital Tavern a few days ago, but my husband treated me on valentines: A four course Valentine’s dinner! The chef at Old Capital Tavern really outdid themselves with their Valentine’s menu.

We started our meal with the beautifully baked local brie with mixed fruit preserves. Smokey, sweet, absolutely gorgeous!

Jordan enjoyed the roasted califlower soup which was simply garnished with bacon. We were so pleased that it was a cauliflower soup that tasted of cauliflower. So often soups like this are over burdened with heavy cream and butter that you lose the flavor of the real star. But the roasted cauliflower really shined!

I enjoyed a Pear and Gorgonzola salad, garnished with cranberried and candied walnuts. Light, sweet, and the little bit of creaminess from the gorgonzola was absolutely sublime!

For my husbands main course he chose the chicken breast with prosciutto. It was served with a heart helping of fettuccine in a burrblanc and garnished with beet microgreens. The serving was huge, so it me than satisfied my husband, not to mention he had the best lunch at work the next day!

I enjoyed the broiled grouper for my mains. It was topped with an absolutely delicious crabcake, beautifully grilled asparagus, and a tasty mix of fenel and parsley microgreens. It was served on a bed of fresh wild rice with a burrblanc as well. Absolutely gorgeous!

And for dessert we had, you guessed it, the toffee cake with vanilla ice cream. The wonderful people at the Tavern also treated us to complimentary glasses of champagne. A perfect end to a perfect Valentines day!

The beautiful cupcakes my husband brought home from his weekend trip! He certainly knows me, that’s for sure. He brought home a beautiful lemon drop cupcake which was eaten almost on sight (a beautifully simple vanilla cupcake with a lemon buttercream, filed with lemon curd and topped with a lemondrop hard candy), a champagne cupcupcake, irish cream cupcake, and a turtle cupcake! So delicious! I hope I get to go there myself one day.
