Today one year ago one of my favorite shows aired their finale! This show got me to draw fanart again and made me fall in love with so many characters! Happy anniversary to The Owl House!!!
EDIT: Thanks to @anistarrose for typing this out for accessibility purposes!
[Image description: digital art of the cast of The Owl House in Watching and Dreaming. Luz and her friends are facing right with confident expressions, with Amity and Willow casting spell circles. King and Eda, the latter in her harpy form, have their backs to Luz, and King's letting out a powerful shout. The background is purple and dotted with stars, with Belos's face looming behind them. HAPPY 1 YEAR FOR TOH FINALE!!!!!!! (how have i only draw titan luz one other time 😭) as most of you can probably assume this show meant so much to me, and it also gave me so much to look forward to- i've met so many amazing people because of my own art as well as the work others have shared on here <3 Huge thanks to Dana Terrace for everything she's done, and for creating these characters in the first place.
beside what they've done for me personally, drawing these characters so many times has also helped me improve significantly, so slide 2 is a redraw of the first time i ever draw lumity, and the others are just color sketches i had fun with last week.
ALSO I WANTED TO INCLUDE OWLBERT WAFFLES AND FLAPJACK BUT I COULDN'T FIGURE OUT HOW TO DRAW BIRDS FOR THE LIFE OF ME ES
as always, i hope yall are doing great, make sure to go eat smth, and drink some water 💜💜
Oh wow, this is really good! I think overall it actually works better as a first episode. It obviously doesn't quite work with the final continuity but it would have been amazing if they'd kept a lot of what does work in the lore & continuity and made some slight adjustments to the things that don't so they'd work with the final show. There are so many details I love: an actual reason why only a human can open the chest, the chest actually being a locker luz knows how to open, the school rising out of the ground,...
And this introduction to Lilith was amazing. They obviously didn't want to introduce her right away and reveal she's eda's sister, and didn't keep her as headmistress so I get why they changed it but it's still so good wow!
Being introduced to hexside early makes for a good hook into the show, and seeing more of Luz at school in the human world is also great!
Oh and "only the emperor is allowed to wear a crown" is fantastic, I wish they'd kept that. It adds another thematic justification to the crown and shows that the emperor is petty yet controlling enough to ban a burger king crown.
That said, I do prefer the reason for Luz staying in the demon realm in the final show: her choosing to do so and wanting to learn magic. It gives her a good starting motivation.
after watching it, it seems like they were going to focus more on Luz's relationship with Amity, and less on Camilla and her Azura book. Eda was going to be more of a Grunkle Stan kind of character, being a good parent figure, but doing shady stuff behind everyone's backs. I'm sure we all knew that Lilith was originally supposed to be the headmistress, but I was not expecting her and Eda to have their Owl Beast forms. Eda seemed to have more control over it than Lilith. I'm guessing they would have a school storyline where Luz is disguised and well liked, and Amity tries to get her busted as a human. It also seemed like transport between the Isles and Human Realm was more common, and makes me wonder if someone else on Earth was secretly a demon. A historical figure, maybe? And I noticed that in the final version, Luz never ends up actually using magic. In this version, it looks like she used magic from Eda's staff in the end fight against Lilith. My overall thoughts: this would be a very interesting direction for the show to go, but maybe not better. I think I might like this first episode more, but I don't think it would make a better show in the long run. Some pieces and elements probably would though.
The way Luz's thank you drawing got rejected by the person it was for when she thought she finally found someone who wouldn't make fun of her for her eccentric behavior, that she is worthless..and then the drawing does get recognized, that it's beautiful and why would it get thrown away. She was finally understood (I am in shambles help-)
hands on the wall foaming at the mouth screaming and crying about how Surf's Up (2007) is the greatest movie ever . to think, i loved it as a kid, BUT WATCHING IT AT 19 YEARS OF AGE???? JESUS FUCKING CHRIST THE MOVIE IS SO GOOD i know JOY
So we all know that Tumblr is US-centric. But to what degree? (and can we skew the results of this poll by posting it at a time where they should be asleep?)
