i think my main problem with marauders meta at the moment is that (and this has always been a problem) a LOT of people underestimate the sheer insanity that was sirius and james' relationship. i think people play it off as like 'aw how cute, best friends! :)' and its like ... I DONT KNOW HOW TO TELL YOU THEYRE SO MUCH WEIRDER THAN THAT. in whatever way you take sirius and james platonic romantic WHATEVER you HAVE to realise they were NOT NORMAL about each other. they were cathy and heathcliff. i think the word that describes james and sirius' relationship to each other is OBSESSION. not like a cutesy best friends forever kind of way i mean talking about how they want to be buried next to each other kind of way. i mean that canonically their relationship exists outside the bounds of morality sirius thinks its FUNNY that james bullies people and vice versa. james only bullies snape because he wanted to amuse sirius. i think sirius LIKES all of james awful qualities (being conceited, arrogant, self-centred) which is a stark contrast to lily who canonically does NOT like the fact that james is a spoilt rich boy strutting around the castle hexing people for fun. i think james wouldnt even ... CARE if sirius HAD ended up killing snape at the whomping willow incident. not really. because it was sirius and every single moral value goes straight out the window when its sirius. do people realise that they were doing the most INSANE acts of magical devotion for each other as TEENAGERS that ADULT WIZARDS couldnt do if they tried for YEARS? why dont people talk enough about the fact that they had such an intense relationship that they excluded everyone else from it? why doesnt anyone talk about the fact that the two way mirrors WERE ONLY FOR THEM. like they didnt give one to remus or peter or lily. it was THEIR thing. sirius went to JAMES' house after he ran away. james made SIRIUS harrys godfather. QUITE THE DOUBLE ACT. NEVER SAW ONE WITHOUT THE OTHER DID YOU? the fact that people from their time MULTIPLE PEOPLE described them as jamesandsirius. .... idk i just think. its a shame people dont really talk very often about how insane and weird and unnormal james and sirius were about each other bc to me its the most fascinating part about the marauders era.

mother fuck, while doing research for my james potter essay for @annabtg, I came across THIS quote:

And then what did he do when he broke himself out of Azkaban? He forgave Remus in an instant. He rejoined the Order. He trusted Dumbledore enough to willingly stay locked up again. He handed his house over to be used for the Order, welcomed people to come and go as they pleased, to stay long-term if they needed -- even Snape, who had recently been eager to have him killed. And in a matter of two years, showed Harry more parental love and support than anyone had before -- to the point of dying for him, exactly as his parents did.

So when you actually look at canon Sirius, I think it's very clear why he was the last person you'd expect.

The blacks when they know voldy is a half blood and he's creating horcruxes through regulus if he dares to tell them, they'd be like: oooh that's nasty we're fooled, anw reg, can you call sirius? We need to have a talk with him

Then sirius kicking the door in with james behind his back keeps mumbling like "if your parents fuck with you, I'll fuck with them too": HEYY MOTHER FATHER HOW ARE YA DOING??? Finally realize you're dumb hah? I thought so too. So we're teaming now? Do we need to drill this into bella's head or we throw a surprise party?

Can I just have a bloody James laying on the ground looking up at some random medic and just "dang, if you ask what my type is, I'd say black hair silver eyes pretty face and a charming smile loves to steal my omelette and polishes my gear before my big quidditch match, wears my jersey all the time even though it's old and its left sleeve almost tears off, has all the amazing shampoo but still chooses to use mine because it will make us smell like each other, there are still many things I'd like to tell you but can you call Sirius here for me it kinda hurts in the belly I want to see him maybe his kisses will make me better? Can I have a fic written from a muggle pov, for specific, a police officer who usually patrols around that area where sirius likes to race his motorbike. Ofc he catches sirius a few times and manages to fine him but for some reason when he turns around to give sirius his last warning (again), sirius would ✨magically✨ disappear

So this guy has met sirius quite a number of times actually and he finds that sirius is extremely gorgeous and funny although his jokes may be cruel and hard to understand sometimes. Gradually, poor guy has a crush on sirius and to be able to meet him more, he literally volunteers to patrol that area every damn night. Everything is absolutely perfect, till one day, when he gathers his courage to ask sirius out if he ever catches sight of him, he sees sirius with james across the street, holding hands and kissing before hoping on the motorbike speeding down the road to home.

Bro is devastated, his crush has already have a lover and ofc james is fit as hell how could he ever be compared to that amazing man. He comes to work the next day looking like shit and his co-workers notice this "Uhm, hard to say this but you were too busy looking at his face the whole time so ofc you didn't notice the ring on his finger"

Bro is even more devastated bc that hot dude riding the coolest motorbike is married and his husband is hot too like where are these hot people even coming from?

I'd like to add this. Sirius actually mentions james a lot when that police guy is writing a fine like "oh no officer can you let me go? I'm on the mission to buy the tastiest chocolate mousse for my jamie" or "prongs is gonna laugh fucking hard at me again for getting a fine thrice this month" or "you know what, on second thought, I'd love to ride this baby and my jamie over you, bc you can't even let me go for once, I didn't even reach the speed limit, I was just there trying to buy my jamie some goddamn flowers!" and the police guy is just too dumb to realize or is he enjoying the sound of sirius' voice and his presence being near him 😭😭

The Blacks being French is also cool ngl especially with their motto Toujours Pur since England in the Middle Ages was invaded by French so I guess their origin can come from there?? I have one in my wips that the Blacks whisper in French behind James' back bc they still hold grudge against him, and James knows cuz Sirius's been teaching him some nasty things to say back. And ooh boy their reactions are hilarious.

Of course Sirius is lowkey their favorite, they're just too strict on him to say it out loud, cuz who wouldn't if you have an heir that only comes once every few generations, all beauty and brains. I'm working on Regulus's POV about the whole heir thingy after Sirius left, and he understands why he won't ever be as best as his brother.

I don't know what to do about Sirius and Orion painting tho, I think Orion is more of a whiskey daddy and he can tell which alcohol by the scent alone (bro is an alcoholic), but I think he'd spend time drilling pureblood agenda into Sirius's brain or helping him with spells, I wholeheartedly believe they love practicing dueling with each other, sometimes Walburga will join and teach him some advanced potions. Like aside from all the yelling and throwing curses, they're deeply care about Sirius' studying to the point they'd send letters asking him if he needs any materials to practice with bc Hogwarts is bleh in nasty hexes. And they're lowkey proud af when receive his results all in Os like
