Little Updates
As mentioned, I had to take a hiatus to get some paid work done so not much progress has been made over the last two weeks. However, I did spend some time playing with various engines. How many versions of the game I have ready a year from now will largely depend on how much time I have aside from writing the actual thesis. Since it does discuss how the advantages and limitations of various game types impact how the story is told, I’d like to have three (*coughs* over-ambitious). So far I’ve played with Twine and Inform 7, both of which I already have some experience with (though not for a few years), but also Story Nexus -- the engine that Failbetter Games created to build Fallen London. It certainly has some interesting mechanics. But since it’s no longer supported we’ll see how good of an idea that is. I also tried Quest on a friend’s recommendation and did not like it at all. it seems Inklewriter is no longer going to be supported (wasn’t quite appropriate for what I wanted, anyway).
That’s it. That’s my impressive update. I’m hoping after Christmas I’ll be able to afford a tablet and I can at least draw a new logo and banner. Assuming I can figure out how to draw.

My first viewing of Johann Lossel’s art was this very piece as it hung in my friend’s gallery (KrabJab in Seattle). I stood in front of it for a very long time. For me, it perfectly encapsulated my inner world. I have been a devotee ever since.
Of course, a few years later I actually met Mr. Lossel and no one told me at the time that’s who I was talking to (never having seen a picture of him). Image how--shall we say miffed?--I was when I found out I’d missed the opportunity to thank him for his work.

The Changeover
Wow, what amazing support, thank you! I guess I’m doing it! I will be rededicating this blog to the Twine game I am creating for my dissertation.* Hopefully, it will grow far beyond that.
I will start by saying to those who follow me for what I currently post: I will still be doing that over at my main blog, @mythandmayhem .
Important question: apart from what I have listed below, what would you all like to see here?
I will continue to have this blog named Fen-Uliet for a month or so, then I will probably rename it for the game itself (sadly “immram” is already taken by an unused blog but I’ll work it out).
This blog will henceforth have things like art that inspires me for how I want the game to look, maybe some music, challenges I have overcome in the writing/twining, and hopefully some playable sections if things go that well. Oh, and maybe my really crappy drawings that are placeholders for the real art (seriously, I am not an artist. I took some drawing classes in high school, but heed my warning: if you don’t use it, you lose it).
I will also continue to share and support art created for other games because there is a lot of incredible work out there that deserves to be seen!
I may also post articles on mythology, narrative, and gaming, as well as share things I have written on my website (if I can make myself do it).
*For those who missed my last post, said dissertation is on the use of digital storytelling in cultural conservation. To this end, I am writing a game titled Immram in an effort to educate players on Irish Otherworld mythology.

Full Article, more informations, and more pictures available here (Page en Anglais et en Français) ______________________________ [ENG]    When I had the idea of painting this subject, I had named it “The Fall”, a reference to some books I was thinking about at that time (Nietzsche: “The Joyful Wisdom”, “Thus spoke Zarathustra” and Alain Damasio: “The WindWalkers”). I contacted a model to work from solid visual references. She perfectly embodied this “Fall”, I knew she would feed the feeling I wanted to create. We met for “The Fall”and we fell
in love. I decided to change the title of this painting, I wished it to be a “Rise” for her. I dedicate it to Psyche, my model, my muse and my love. «Three metamorphoses of the spirit do I designate to you : how the spirit becometh a camel, the camel a lion, and the lion at last a child.1» _____________________________ 1 Friedrich Nietzsche, Thus spoke Zarathustra [FR]    Quand j'ai eu l'idĂ©e de peindre ce sujet, je l'avais nommĂ© «La Chute» (The Fall), une rĂ©fĂ©rence Ă  certains livres auxquels je pensais Ă  l'Ă©poque (Nietzsche: «Le Gai savoir», «Ainsi Parlait Zarathoustra» et Alain Damasio: «La horde du Contrevent").

Hi all! It has been a very long time since I was active. and I have ideas. I know this was a fan-based video game blog, but I’m writing a Twine game for my doctoral thesis and am considering rededicating this blog to it. I’m not sure what that will entail, but I’m open to ideas if anyone has any. First question though: Would anyone even be interested in that? It’s a game about Irish mythology, based on my thesis topic about using digital storytelling as a tool for cultural preservation.

I tell my students, ‘When you get these jobs that you have been so brilliantly trained for, just remember that your real job is that if you are free, you need to free somebody else. If you have some power, then your job is to empower somebody else. This is not just a grab-bag candy game.‘

Interactive Map of Thedas v.2.0
An update! A bit later than I anticipated because I discovered that tumblr removes input fields from custom pages and had to find another hosting solution.
New Features:
Ability to hide/show features (borders, labels, etc.)
Deep Roads Map (many thanks to higheverrains, who allowed me to extrapolate from their Deep Roads theory and add it as a feature to the map! It is hidden by default but can be viewed by checking “Show Deep Roads Map” under Show Features.)
Two different distance grids (each with 30km/60km versions based on average walking/riding distance in a day) based on different theories.
Labels on the oceans and seas!
Added a handful of additional locations from DAI
Improvements / Bug Fixes:
Zooming in/out functions more smoothly now
West Hill is now in the correct location (
 also thanks to higheverrains)

Rivain no longer gets chopped in half when you zoom in on it.
Coming Soon(ish):
My next goalpost is to refactor some of the code to make the map load more quickly. Once that is complete, I’ll probably gradually move into adding additional detail based on the location maps from DAI. Let me know if you are interested in helping out! (No coding experience required, just a basic image editor and some patience)
Interested in seeing more?
Let me know what you’d like to see! If you go the extra mile and give me rough coordinates for the location on the map + the zoom factor you were viewing it at when you got the coordinates, I can have it up much more quickly!
Let me know if you see any incorrect/outdated information.

AMERICAN CARNAGE: a zine to benefit the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) and Planned Parenthood is accepting submissions!
On January 20th, we were painted a picture of America in desolation, of ruined infrastructure and a grim public in immediate danger.
Let’s paint a different picture. We want to hear about your American experience - show us what has already made this nation great to you!
AMERICAN CARNAGE is a zine by the people, for the people and is looking for both visual and literary artworks to put into a digital pay-what-you-can ($2 minimum) zine that will benefit the ACLU and Planned Parenthood in a 50/50 split.
Send your work to [email protected] by March 31st, 2017.
Guidelines:  - Safe for work submissions ONLY, please! We want this to be an all-ages zine. - Please submit in a .pdf or .png format. .jpegs will be accepted, but .png preferred. - Please submit your name/handle (however you’d like to be credited) with your work. We can keep you anonymous, if you’d like.  - If you’d like, send us some demographic information (that you’re a member of the LGBT community, a Muslim-American, immigrant, etc.) so that we can show the many faces of our melting pot nation. - Remember, keep it positive! This is about why America is already great.
We will be more than happy to answer any questions on this blog or on our e-mail!
Please reblog and spread the word!
