#mycroft's relationship with his family is the most compelling part of this entire show to me#but also the most frustrating#I very much want someone to yell at mycroft's mother for everything she's done to him#all that pressure she put on him to protect his baby brother#forcing him into a parental role at an early age#using him as a scapegoat#always pushing him to do better do better do better#because nothing he did for sherlock was ever enough for her#nevermind that both her younger children would be dead if it weren't for him#sherlock especially would have died a thousand times over if it weren't for mycroft's constant vigilance and unwanted interventions#killed by his own sister or overdosed or died on a case or in some reckless experiment#does mummy holmes even know about the drug abuse?#she strikes me as the type to deny that her golden child could ever be an addict#(even if she did acknowledge it she would probably blame it on mycroft somehow)#what a twisted reality she must live in to ever believe that sherlock was the ''adult'' in the family#that has to be the most insulting line in the entire show#mycroft deserves better#poor man has only ever allowed himself an emotional connection to his family#and what have they done in turn?#dismissed him demeaned him parentified him resented him#no wonder the man has so many issues regarding things like affection and control and emotional vulnerability#anyone would growing up in that environment#mycroft holmes#mummy holmes#sherlock#meta and commentary

One of the most under appreciated thing in BBC Sherlock is how much emotional burden of his family Mycroft carries around and yet he’s never truly appreciated. Least of all my his mother. His childhood was stolen from him and he was forced to be mature prior to his time. He wasn’t given any chance to be coddled and cosseted like every other normal kid and sometimes you can see him envying Sherlock for being the centre of their mother’s attention and a part of him secretly wishing that to be true for himself too.

Done for the Sherlolly 2016 Remix Challenge, I’ve FINALLY provided more illustrations for this fic. I have a well documented weakness for Victorian!Sherlolly AND arranged marriages, and this was one of the joys I managed to work on since it indulged me in all kinds of ways. Speaking of indulging, @writingwife-83 managed to put up with my often unwarranted input for this story and I’m very proud to have been a part of it.

Wanna hear about the kind of delicious subtlety that I’d love to see on screen with sherlolly like in the hypothetical s5 that I don’t even want lol? Well, I’m gonna tell you…

I want a moment of crisis or stress, and Sherlock is under pressure or on the clock. Maybe it’s a case and he’s becoming increasingly frustrated because he just keeps hitting a wall. And just as it seems like he’s is about to absolutely lose it, the camera shifts to this tiny, brief moment that’s unseen by anyone else in the scene…where Molly takes hold of Sherlock’s hand. Instantly, you see a change in Sherlock’s expression, like a calm washes over him. Her hand slides away as quickly as it had reached for his, but it’s obvious the effect that momentary touch had on him. Whether he then figures things out or not, the point is that he’s suddenly able to handle what’s going on. He’s not overwhelmed like he was only a moment before, and he’s able to keep going and stay collected. And it would just be another little way to show how she’s his rock.

I would pay money for that scene between them 🥺
