It's okay if you weren't able to get the right words down on paper.
It's okay if your reader doesn't have the same picture in their head that you have in yours.
It's okay if you didn't get the reaction to your creation that you hoped you would get.
It's okay if you didn't get a reaction at all.
No matter what the end result is, you still started something. You still made something when there wasn't anything there before. You had an idea or a feeling or something else that energized you, and you acted on it.
That's something to feel good about, and I hope you do. ❤

I have realized that the perfect form of media must have a delicate balance between absolutely heart wrenching pure emotional devastation and the most ridiculous nonsense you have ever seen in your whole life

🟢 You are still a writer even when you haven't written in a while.
🟢 You are still a writer even when you feel like you aren't writing enough.
🟢 You are still a writer when you feel like your work isn't good.
🟢 You are still a writer when other people don't like your work.
🟢 You are still a writer when you aren't published.
🟢 You are still a writer when you only have works in progress.
🟢 You are still a writer if all you write is fanfiction.

Hiii sorry to bother you again (I’m that person who has asked about Belonging and Believing a couple of times). I just went to re-read Belonging and Believing but I can’t seem to find it on AO3. Have you removed it?
You aren't a bother; you're amazing and kind! I actually never transferred it to AO3, but this will give me the kick in the pants to do so.
(And I don’t want to get hopes too high, but I have been rereading and maybe can finally get through this block? Maybe?)

As it is Passover again, it is time for the annual debate as to whether the frog plague, which thanks to a quirk in the Hebrew, is written as a plague of frog, singular, rather than the plural, plague of frogs, was in fact, as generally imagined, a plague of many frogs, or instead a singular giant Kaiju frog. This is an ancient and venerable argument that actually goes back to the Talmud because this is what the Jewish people are. If we can't argue for fun about this sort of thing, what are we even doing.
In that spirit, I would like to submit a third possibility, which is that in fact it was one perfectly normal sized frog, who was absolutely acing Untitled Frog Game: Ancient Egypt Edition. One particularly obnoxious frog, who through sheer hard work, managed to plague all of Egypt.

Which is the whole point! Not to hijack your post, but this is one of the very important things fiction lets us do. We feel very real emotions that we will have to deal with in life in a way where we still have control and some emotional distance.
I have cried over video games and TV shows and books and movies. I will do it again. I will share grief and despair and depression and horror with fictional characters, and also glee and pleasure and love. And hopefully it will make me a little better at sharing those things in life, too.
It's good practice! And it's practice where we can say "actually this is too much for me right now", and close the covers, and be free for a bit. Whereas when Death actually comes calling, no amount of bargaining or begging for please, just a little more time will help.
(Plus it lets us pick models for how we want to act in Situations. Stoic? Angry? Depressed? Kind? But that’s a whole 'nother post.)
It’s just a show, they said. They’re just fictional characters, they said. None of this is real, they said. Well these emotions that I am feeling a very fucking real.
