A SPECIAL BOND
A year had passed since the formation of the legendary school idol group Muse. The nine young women who were part of the said group had experienced many changes since they decided to end all their activities. The then third years especially, who were now on the path of finding themselves and pursuing their future, were adjusting to their college lives.
Still, they all remained close to each other and would get together from time to time. Their friendships were as tight as ever, but some even became closer than before.
Maki, for example, found herself seeking for Nozomi’s advice more often than she’d imagined.
She didn’t really know when she became this close to the older girl. It was surprising, at least to her, that Nozomi would be the one she would come to when she had problems. It wasn’t that she disliked her though. And she knew that Nozomi was great in listening to other people’s problems. But she thought their differences in attitude and interests would give them a hard time in dealing with each other.
Once, Maki was troubled about Rin and Hanayo.
She noticed that her two friends were spending more time with just each other than all three of them. She felt left out. Although she couldn’t really blame them since she knew that they were childhood best friends. It’s just that, with Honoka, Umi, and Kotori busy with student council matters, she had been left lonely without those two. And she was not the best in socializing.
As always, she found it hard to talk and open up her problem. She couldn’t just go and tell them “I’m lonely without you,” could she? She felt like she would just bother them with her childish attitude.
She told herself it would be alright eventually. She’d been more or less alone in her entire life after all. What’s new? And it’s not like they’d completely abandoned her too. There wasn’t even an argument or the sort.
At the very least, she told herself she should be happy since her days had been quieter and nicer without the constant energy around her that was Rin.
But then, when all nine of them met for a little gathering at her place, Nozomi noticed.
Maki was alone at her veranda, gazing at the stars shining above her. It was fun to be with all of them, and it had been a while. But she was somewhat overwhelmed with everything and she needed some time to breathe.
Then suddenly, she heard Nozomi’s voice ask her. “Care for some company?”
Maki looked at the older girl and the latter gave a waiting look. She considered refusing but she didn’t want to be disrespectful and turn out as cold or unwelcoming. Nozomi wasn’t that noisy if she chose not to be too. So she nodded and said, “sure.”
For a while they just minded their own businesses. They both enjoyed the night breeze and its calming aura. Then Nozomi casually asked, “what’s wrong, Maki-chan?” She continued to watch the sky instead of Maki.
Taken aback, Maki turned to Nozomi incredulously. “N-Nothing.” She started twirling her hair with her fingers as she looked away.
“Has it got something to do with Rin-chan and Hanayo-chan?” Nozomi asked again.
Maki’s eyes widened as she looked at Nozomi again. “Wha-? How did you-?”
Nozomi giggled. “I was just guessing. But it turns out I’m right!”
“I didn’t say it was them-” then Maki saw Nozomi’s victorious playful smirk. She sighed, “fine.”
“So what’s going on with them?” Nozomi asked, although she might already have an idea why. “Did you have a fight?”
Maki paused before answering, “not really. It’s just...”
“Hm? Just what?” Nozomi urged.
“I... feel like they’re avoiding me?” said Maki. She too was unsure of the ideas she jumped onto.
“How can you say so?” Nozomi asked.
“Well,” Maki said, “they just greet me in the morning when they come to class and then in the afternoon before going home. Sometimes at lunch they disappear immediately. They used to stick with me and nag me all the time.” Even Maki herself was surprised at how much she was saying.
“Oh?” Nozomi said with a teasing smile. “I thought you don’t like noisy people who’s all over you all the time?”
Maki opened her mouth to retort but she was left speechless as heat crept up her face in embarrassment.
Nozomi let out a small laugh. “I’m just joking,” she said, “tell me more about it?”
And so Maki told Nozomi the details of her trouble. It was surprisingly easy to talk about it with the older girl. Although she was often teased by her, the embarrassment soon lifted off and she was able to talk smoothly. Maki realized she was enjoying the evening with Nozomi. They were just there together, talking about how to resolve Maki’s problem, all night until Honoka decided they should play some games.
A week passed by and Maki knew why she was being avoided.
It was her birthday and the girls all planned a surprise for her. There were tomato soup, cake, juice, and some of her other favorite food. It was held at the music room of their school and Nozomi, Eli, and Nico all came over. They all played games, sang, and danced together.
Rin and Hanayo were the ones in charge of arranging things, that’s why they were so busy and ended up seeming like they’re avoiding her. When Maki found that out, she turned to Nozomi who gave her a knowing grin before she hugged her two best friends.
Rin was so delighted with the redhead’s unusual action so she reciprocated so tightly and excitedly. “Maki-chan hugged us nyaaa! Happy birthday Maki-chan!”
Hanayo prayed she wouldn’t faint from suffocation. “Someone save meee!”
--
Weeks passed by and Maki found herself consulting Nozomi about her problems. It’s not that she had something against Rin nor Hanayo though. It was just so easy to talk to Nozomi. It’s like she could be all whiny and complain a lot and Nozomi wouldn’t mind listening at all. Nozomi’s teases and laughter comforted her too, for a reason she didn’t know. Maki’s secrets were securely safe with the older girl and she knew that.
They spent a lot of time together when Nozomi was free from university. Sometimes, they would go out to the park and stargaze. Oftentimes, they were just at Nozomi’s apartment or at a cafe. Maki was truly happy being with the older girl. She often found herself giving in to the prankster’s antics. Nozomi even convinced her to call her “Non-chan,” albeit it took a lot of pleads and washi washi threats.
It’s like they formed a special bond of their own, different from the rest of their friends.
Rin questioned it once, “why do you talk about Nozomi-chan a lot these days nya?” There wasn’t really anything wrong with what she asked. Even with them, it was unusual for Maki to talk a lot and about someone who wasn’t even there anymore for the past months.
At first, Hanayo thought nothing much about it since Nozomi was one of their closest friends. But then, sometimes, Maki would mention the older girl out of nowhere; so she became curious as well. She and Rin looked at the redhead expectantly.
“Eh?” Maki froze. Then she twirled her hair. “N-No reason! Nothing! She’s our f-friend, isn’t she? Isn’t it fine to talk about her?” She looked away, avoiding their sights.
Rin leaned closer to Maki. “Is that so nya?”
Maki nodded. “You talk about Non-cha-” She coughed. “I mean, N-Nozomi too, don’t you? And Eli, and Nico-chan, and Hono--”
“Non-chan!?” Hanayo exclaimed with eagerness.
“Oh! Maki-chan’s got a nickname for Nozomi-chan nya!” Rin followed up.
“Bueghh! Wh-What’s wrong with that?” Maki’s face reddened with embarrassment.
“Nothing nya!” Rin answered, imitating Maki.
“What’s that? I don’t get it at all!”
--
December was approaching and Maki was troubled yet again. And as usual, her feet brought her outside of Nozomi’s apartment door. Her breathing was ragged because of her rush. She knocked at the door and Nozomi came short after.
When Nozomi opened the door, a worried expression flashed on her face. “Maki-chan?”
Maki was looking down and didn’t respond. She continued breathing rapidly. She was frowning.
“Maki-chan, come in! It’s cold out here!” Nozomi ushered the younger girl into her apartment. “Are you alright?”
There was still no answer from Maki. She took off her shoes and stood in front of Nozomi.
“Maki-chan, what’s wrong?” Nozomi asked, worried about the redhead’s uneasiness and obvious... sadness. Was she pouting?
“Non-chan,” Maki finally said, looking at Nozomi’s eyes like a lost little puppy. “Tell me, is it true that Santa-san is not real?” she asked with tainted innocence. She looked so... heartbroken.
Nozomi paused and stared at her, a little surprised at the question. Then she held Maki’s hand. “Maki-chan, dear, who told you that?” She gave her a smile that she hoped could warm her up.
“Th-That’s not important,” said Maki, “just tell me if it’s true or not.” There was a hint of desperation in her voice. Her brows furrowed as if saying, ‘please tell me it’s not.’
Nozomi gave yet another smile. She squeezed Maki’s hand and said, “it is true...” She figured beating around the bush wouldn’t be effective in handling Maki and it might just worsen the situation.
The look of realization and sorrow that Maki wore broke Nozomi’s heart too. It hurt to see the sweet innocence of the younger girl being crushed. It made Nozomi want to take back her words, but that just wouldn’t do any good.
Tears threatened to burst out of Maki’s eyes as she looked down. “Oh,” was all she could utter.
“But it’s alright, isn’t it?” Nozomi suddenly asked. Maki brought her attention back to the older girl with confused eyes. Nozomi smiled and continued, “it means that someone really loves and cares for you that they’d give you a gift every year. Even though they write Santa-san’s name instead of theirs. In your case, it’s your parents who stand up as Santa-san. They love you so much.”
“But why did they lie to me?” Maki asked with a little irritation.
Nozomi paused to think of the right answer. “You see, Maki-chan,” she started, “it’s not that they really wanted to lie to you. They just didn’t want to hurt you. They knew that if you find out the truth about him, then you would be hurt so much. Just like now. They didn’t want your hopes to be crushed.”
“Didn’t they think I would realize it someday...” Maki uttered. She knew that maybe she was being immature and childish, but who could blame her? For 16 years she believed that every year someone besides her parents cared for her. Santa-san was her first friend. Even though she never really met him, she always appreciated the gifts she received and the letters that came with them. “Now I’m looking stupid, believing that some old man comes through our chimney every year.” Her voice was starting to waver. She pulled her hand from Nozomi’s as she looked away with sadness and pain.
“Hey, it’s alright,” Nozomi assured, “you’re not stupid.” She watched as Maki stomped off to sit on the couch of her living room. She followed after and sat beside her, making sure to keep a certain distance so as not to startle the younger girl. “Maki-chan,” she called. But Maki refused to even look at her. “Maki-chan?” Nozomi repeated.
“...ven you...” Maki eventually whispered. She bit her lip to contain her emotions. She was still staring down, not meeting Nozomi’s eyes.
But Nozomi didn’t hear what she said clearly so she asked, “hm? what is it?” She kept her voice soft and gentle, hoping that Maki would open up to her more.
There was a short silence as Maki contemplated whether to talk or not. Then she said, “I said, even you girls lied to me.” She clenched her skirt, bottling her feelings.
“What?” Nozomi asked, confused. “When?”
“Last year,” Maki answered, “on our Christmas party. You gave me another gift and said it was from... Santa-san.” Her voice cracked and a tear trickled down her face. “I’m sure Nico-chan and Rin, heck even Honoka, were making fun of me for believing such a stupid thing.”
Nozomi frowned. “That’s not true,” she replied. “Sure, Nicochi let out a laugh,” she admitted. No use lying now, right? “But that’s just because she found your innocence cute.” She giggled. “Those three were even the most excited ones when we made your present!”
Maki’s eyebrows raised in shock. “R-Really?” Ever the tsundere, she tried not to show the delight in her eyes.
Nozomi nodded with a smile. “Yup! So don’t ever think that we see you as dumb, or stupid, or an idiot, okay? We love you the way you are. Your innocence despite you being smart is one of your charms!” She gave a grin that was so genuine and full of love.
“O-Of course I’m not stupid!” Maki looked away while twirling her hair with her fingers. And her cheeks were painted red. Now there’s the Maki Nozomi knew.
Nozomi chuckled and wrapped her arms around Maki. “Yup!”
Now all that’s left was for Nozomi to find out who told Maki the sacred truth and give that person a washi washi of a lifetime.

More than Fate
Ao3 Link
Rating: General Audiences
Fandom: Love Live! School Idol Project
Pairing: Nozomi Toujou/Eli Ayase
Words: 2892
Summary: Eli doesn't believe in destiny at all. She's more of a worker than a believer. And that applies to romance too. She wants to fall in love on her own, to the person who will love her for who she is. She doesn't want anyone to feel obliged to be with her just because they're 'fated' to be together. However, her grandmother always reminds her that the force of fate is strong, and even if you want to go against it, it just won't always end up your way.
Eli Ayase had never liked the idea of destiny. She was more of a worker than a believer. She preferred giving efforts to make her dreams come true rather than waiting for it. She wanted to achieve success because of her own hard work and perseverance instead of saying that it’s fate.
Of course, that applied to romance too. She didn’t want to be stuck to someone just because they're soulmates or something. She wanted to fall in love on her own, to the person who would love her for who she was. She wanted to experience that process of getting to know each other up until they finally get married. She didn’t want to meet someone and say ‘hey, we’re soulmates so let’s get married.’
She had heard countless stories about destiny and soulmates from her beloved grandmother when she was young. The old woman would always remind her that the force of fate was strong. Even if you wanted to go against it, it just wouldn’t always end up your way. But of course, her grandmother said, if you truly think fighting it would make you happy, then it’s at least worth a try.
In one of her grandmother’s stories, she remembered hearing the phrase “red string of fate”. Ever the curious child, she asked.
“What’s that, obaa-sama?”
“It’s one of the guides that fate gives us,” her grandmother said, “when you grow up, you will see a thin red string tied to your left ring finger.”
“Really? Then why don’t I see yours?” she asked again.
“That’s because the string is only visible to you. Right now, I can see my own, but you can’t.”
“Oh! Then what is the string for?” she questioned yet again.
“The other end of the string is tied to your soulmate,” the old lady explained, “that string may have knots and it may get all tangled up or stretched far away, but it’s okay. That means whatever may happen to you and your soulmate, you’d always be destined for each other. You may be far from each other, you may fight a lot, you may even hate them, but that won’t mean you aren’t fated. You will eventually find each other as long as your string remains tied to your fingers.”
“Heh…” she hummed, taking in every word that came out of her grandmother’s lips. “How do you know when someone’s your soulmate then?”
“The moment your left ring fingers touch, you will feel a chill in your spine, and the next second, everything will feel warm and fuzzy.” Her grandmother wore a fond look, remembering the time when she found her own soulmate.
Eli nodded in understanding and amazement. Then a look of confusion graced her face. “But what if I don’t want to be with them? What if I love someone other than them?”
Her grandmother smiled. “That’s a good question dear,” she ran her hand across Eli’s soft blonde hair, “you see, when that happens, you have to take a risk and make a big, big, decision. And as much as possible, I don’t want you to resort to this…” She took a deep breath and continued with a more serious voice, “you can—”
“Eli!” Maki’s voice woke Eli up from her unintended nap.
“Maki..?” Eli asked, rubbing the sleep off her eyes. She looked around and then she realized… she fell asleep while working at the library again.
“I told you you need to sleep properly,” Maki said, irritated as usual, as she took a seat opposite the blonde. “You’re still not done with your thesis?”
“Not yet,” Eli answered, “I still need to revise some stuff.” She sighed. “What time is it?”
“About 4 pm.”
“Shoot. I need to go!” Eli stood up and scrambled fixing her things.
Maki just raised an eyebrow as she watched her best friend rushing off.
And that was when Eli met the beautiful, sexy woman that was Nozomi Toujou.
She was running, trying to catch the train, to reach her 4:30 pm class. It was then that she bumped into something, or someone.
“Ah! I’m so sorry!” Eli exclaimed.
When the stranger looked up and met Eli’s eyes, Eli swore she hadn’t seen orbs as vibrant as hers. It seemed to absorb her, and she was unable to move nor even open her mouth to speak more.
“No, I’m sorry,” the shorter woman said, with a voice as gentle as an angel’s. “I wasn’t looking at where I was going.” Her long violet locks flowed as she bowed her head in apology.
“I-It’s okay…” Eli finally found her voice again. “Um…” As much as she wanted to stare forever at this gorgeous woman in front of her, she still had a class to catch up.
Just as she was about to continue her way, she suddenly heard the stranger speak. “M-My name’s Nozomi Toujou!”
“Eh?” Eli whipped her head back to the stranger – Nozomi.
“I-I mean, I’m sorry, but can you help me? I’m… kind of lost…” Nozomi averted her eyes, looking uneasy.
“Where are you going?” asked Eli. She figured she should help and then dash to her university.
“O-Otonokizaka University…” answered Nozomi. “I’m new to the area and mixed up the trains…”
‘Did she just say Otonokizaka? That’s where I go too!’ Eli found herself happy and excited. Why though? Well, she might just have a teeny tiny bit of a crush on the lady. “O-Oh! That’s where I’m going to, actually! Let me lead the way!”
That’s where their friendship started.
Yes, friendship.
They were just friends.
No, actually they weren’t just friends.
They were…
…best friends.
Best friends who did everything they could to help the other - that’s what they were. Ever since that day when Eli learned that Nozomi was a transferee to her university, they became friends. Too bad they weren’t in the same course though. But that’s alright, maybe, because they at least had one subject together. Their buildings were just beside each other too.
Since Nozomi was new to the school and moreso the area, Eli volunteered to show her around. They would meet up every time they had the same break time. They walked home together at least until the crossroad where they had to part ways.
One time, Eli wondered why. Why was she so attached to the purple-haired? Why was she letting her in her life so easily? Was it because she was so kind? Fun to be with? Smart? No, no matter what the person’s personality was, Elu always had a hard time when it came to trusting them. She didn’t really want to interact with them. So why was Nozomi Toujou different from everyone else?
And then, after years of being best friends, she might have realized the answer.
She might have been in love with her.
Eli was unsure. She didn’t really understand the complex meaning of love. She was always unsure.
But every time, every damn time, she saw her smile… somehow, somehow, her worries subside.
Every time she looked at Eli with that ever so vibrant emerald orbs with such care and passion, Eli couldn’t help but be mesmerized. Every time she spoke oh so gently with that voice that sounded like music to Eli’s ears, Eli couldn’t help but feel giddy inside. Every single moment they spent together, Eli wished would never end. Because every time they're with each other, Eli felt all warm and fuzzy. It was almost like….
Almost like they were soulmates.
But no, Eli thought. She didn’t believe in soulmates. She didn’t want to feel constricted by that “unchangeable destiny.”
Eli glanced at her left ring finger. Now that she’s older, she could clearly see the red string tied to it. She traced it with her right thumb and tried to follow her gaze to the end of the string… but of course, she wasn’t able to. It was one of the tricks of the string. You couldn’t follow it to the end to find your soulmate, because it would gradually fade into the distance. The only truly visible part of it was the one on your finger.
What if Nozomi was her soulmate?
It wouldn’t be hard to find out. They just had to let their strings touch. It would only take a second.
What if she’s not?
Eli wouldn’t be able to stand seeing Nozomi leave her. She knew that the purple-haired strongly believed in destiny. She knew that Nozomi often relied everything to fate. She would always consult her cards whenever she was conflicted.
Eli knew that, so she made sure their fingers wouldn’t ever touch. She’d always keep her distance. Sometimes, Nozomi noticed it, but she would always shrug it off.
Nozomi… Eli knew she believed in soulmates.
That was why Eli was rendered speechless when suddenly, Nozomi confessed her love to Eli.
It was sometime after their graduation. It had been about four years since they met each other. Eli visited Nozomi’s apartment for an afternoon hangout.
She’d fallen asleep then, while they were watching some romance-comedy movie. When she woke up, she saw green eyes staring right at hers. Her own orbs widened - in surprise, in embarrassment.
And then, suddenly,
her world came into a halt when she felt soft lips press against her own.
But it left as quickly as it came.
“I’m sorry!” she heard Nozomi utter.
Nozomi was about to stand up when Eli caught her wrist and enveloped her in a tight embrace.
“Elichi? I’m sorry, I didn’t mean t-”
Eli cut her off with a shush. “You don’t have to… be sorry.” And then, she buried her face in Nozomi’s tresses.
Nozomi gripped Eli’s shirt and said, “I love you. I love you so much Elichi.” Her voice was still angelic as ever, full of emotions, full of love.
Eli’s embrace slightly loosened before tightening again. “I…” she paused, still overwhelmed by the confession, “I love you, Nozomi. I’ve always… always loved you…” She wasn’t sure why, but she felt tears escape her own eyes.
Nozomi pulled back a little to look at her. Her eyes conveyed a lot of feelings. She slowly leaned in for another kiss, but Eli suddenly looked away.
“Elichi?” Nozomi called. Her eyes wore a hurt look and Eli didn’t want to dare seeing it.
“I’m not…” Eli mumbled. Tears were threatening to fall again, and she gritted her teeth.
“You’re not..? You’re not what?” Nozomi asked.
“Your soulmate. I’m not your soulmate, Nozomi,” Eli answered, “we can’t be together.” She withdrew her arms, but Nozomi was quick enough to hold them.
“We don’t know that yet, Elichi. We haven’t tried linking our strings,” Nozomi reasoned. She raised her left hand to take Eli’s but the blonde whipped it away.
“No!” she exclaimed. “I’m sorry. I don’t want to know. I told you before, didn’t I? I don’t want someone to feel obliged to be with me just because of a piece of string. Nozomi, I don’t want you to love me just because destiny told you so…” A single drop of tear fell from her eye, and then another, and another… until she was crying in Nozomi’s arms.
Nozomi rubbed Eli’s back and whispered, “but I already love you without knowing…”
“I don’t... believe in destiny, but you do,” Eli said between sobs and hiccups. “What if… what if we find out we’re not soulmates? You’ll leave me for sure! What if you find your true one? You’ll leave me, Nozomi, you’ll leave me!”
“Eli,” said Nozomi. Eli flinched. It was the first time Nozomi called her by her name. “Listen… I do believe in fate. It was by fate that we met, after all; at least for me. But the fact that I loved you, that I love you, even without knowing if we’re destined to be together… just proves how much you mean to me. And if it so happens that we’re not, I promise you Eli, that I won’t leave you. Deciding to pursue my love for you was a very big step for me… I didn’t want to charge ahead with uncertainties. But I decided to gamble… for you… for us.”
Eli took in every word Nozomi had spoken, but still asked, “did you ask your cards about loving me?”
Nozomi gave a firm “no.” She cupped Eli’s face and said, “I don’t want to ask them. I want to love you just because I do. I want to love you for being Eli Ayase - my best friend, my family.”
Eli finally gave in, and this time, she was the one to lean in to meet Nozomi’s lips.
“I love you, Nozomi.”
Ever since then, they agreed not to check if they’re soulmates or not. They would love each other for who they were. They went on dates, they kissed, they held hands, but they made sure not to link their strings. Nozomi promised not to consult her cards for their relationship either. They believed in different things, but they compromised, all for their love.
They were happy with each other. They truly were.
Until there was a point that Eli realized they’re somehow drifting away from each other.
But there wasn’t really wrong with any of them. Their love for each other was still as strong as ever. They leaned on each other. They talked. There was no problem with them at all.
It’s just that… somehow, somehow…
Fate won’t let them be together.
When they go out for an outdoor date, it would suddenly start raining hard. Their work schedule always wouldn’t match up. Eli would slip and have her face all muddy on her way to Nozomi’s apartment. Their phone calls wouldn’t connect. The stuffed toy Eli gave to Nozomi as a gift was ripped to pieces when somehow, it fell from her balcony and a wild dog caught it.
It’s like they were slowly being pulled apart.
Eli didn’t want to believe in destiny, she didn’t. But how could they explain all these things? She knew that Nozomi was thinking of this as a work of fate.
Eli was thinking about it all when she remembered her grandmother’s words.
The solution to their problem.
“You can always cut your string, and then you won’t have to be tied up by fate…”
That’s it.
She scolded herself. Why did she only remember that now? How stupid. Nozomi didn’t mention that either. Maybe she didn’t know? Or was it because they agreed not to talk about it at all?
Eli was about to go to Nozomi’s apartment then. She called her to say she was coming, and they happily conversed. She didn’t mention the solution though. She figured she would tell her when she arrived.
Though being excited, she quickly grabbed a pair of scissors and positioned it to cut the string.
She breathed deeply, smiling to herself as she counted.
One.
Two.
Three.
Snap!
Eli watched as the string changed color from red to black, before fading away completely.
Then suddenly, she felt a warm sensation inside her.
But the next second, she felt a chill run up her spine.
She shrugged it off and smiled yet again.
‘I’m free.’
The walk to Nozomi’s apartment seemed longer than usual, and Eli didn’t know why. Eli found it odd that it was somehow cold even though it was summer. She was fond of the cold so why was she almost shivering? She also felt a little heavy inside.
She shook her head.
She was supposed to be happy now that she’s free.
When she arrived at Nozomi’s doorstep, she knocked on the door. “Nozomi?”
But she was met with silence.
Another round of knocks and Nozomi still wasn’t answering. Eli raised an eyebrow in concern. There was no way Nozomi was out, she called her to tell that she’s coming over. Nozomi told her she would be waiting for her.
Eli took out her wallet from her pocket. Nozomi had given her a spare key so she could come in anytime. She just knocked out of respect and routine. She used the key to open the door.
Nozomi’s shoes were there, indicating that shes home. The lights were all on too. Eli let herself in. “Nozomi?” she called again.
Silence.
Eli walked to the living room, and there Nozomi was, lying on the couch sideways, eyes closed. Eli let out a sigh of relief. ‘So she just fell asleep…’
She approached her slowly, quietly, being careful not to wake her up. She stared at her with a fond smile. She looked so peaceful…
Almost too peaceful…
Eli lifted Nozomi’s head up to take a seat on the couch and placed it on her lap. She stroked Nozomi’s beautiful long hair with her left hand. “I love you, Nozomi…”
A minute of silence passed, and Eli realized Nozomi wasn’t stirring at all. She wasn’t moving, and she was too quiet.
Panicked, she placed two fingers on Nozomi’s neck to check her pulse.
There was none.
Eli looked around, searching for who knows what until her sight landed on her left hand.
Eli’s eyes widened as it hit her.
“You can always cut your string, and then you won’t have to be tied up by fate… But be careful, because the moment you cut your string, your soulmate dies.”

Can you do some Anchan x Shuka hcs?
Ah, I love this ship. I always think about the what-if scenario in which Anchan has had a helpless crush on Shuka since the day she’s met her, so this is kinda based on that. Thanks for the ask!
- Ever since they first met, Anchan knew she would have a connection with Shuka. Something about the two of them just clicked instantly, and after that, they rarely ever left each other’s sides.
- Anchan first had a “friendship crush” on Shuka, where she felt the need to be with her 24/7 and it was the small period of time where she realized she was at max happiness when she was with her.
- Eventually, Anchan knew it was developing into something more. She knew from the beginning that she couldn’t act on it because of the idol rules and the chance of Shuka seeing her that way back was probably low.
- One of Anchan’s favorite things about Shuka is her smile. It could make Anchan’s day instantly. Anything about Shuka could really, and Anchan is painfully aware of this.
- There are moments when Anchan faces temptation with Shuka. Once, when they were alone and watching their favorite movie Burlesque (yes, this is canon- question 18) together, Shuka cuddled next to Anchan in a position that practically forced her to wrap her arm around her. Anchan remembers everything about this moment, from the flowery scent of Shuka’s hair to the racing beating of her heart.
- As Anchan is a fan of Christina Aguilera (2:21) and listens to the Burlesque soundtrack, her favorite song is “Bound to You” because it reminds her of her and Shuka.
- After developing her own feelings, Shuka pushes little hints to Anchan, just to see how she would react. This includes: cuddling during movies, going out to eat frequently and specifically alone, and hugs and affection whenever wherever.
- But because Anchan has somewhat of a low self-esteem, she doesn’t believe Shuka feels the same, despite all of the hints.
- Regardless of where their relationship stands, the two always have fun together and don’t plan on leaving each other’s side anytime soon.
