It’s totally still Christmas, I haven’t fallen asleep yet so it’s still the 25th
Feliz Navidad, @iamtotallycool! Thank you so much for the wonderful one shot, it’s absolutely adorable!
I was going to do something Navidad related, but then I read your Marvel AU one shot, and I knew I had to draw Black Jaquin Elena! Her design is based a bit off of Shuri’s Black Panther costume in the comics, with a little Elena flair thrown in~ I hope you like it, and that you had a wonderful Navidad!

Feliz Navidad @maruvian !!!
EOA Secret Santa Gift
Merry Christmas and happy holidays to all!!! @eoa-secret-santa-2018
Silv @maruvian I hope you enjoy this gift to you and have a wonderful day!
Thank you to all that have made me feel welcomed into this fandom that I just joined not too long ago
Enjoy!!
It should be a surprise to no one that Queen Elena could still proudly admit that her favorite holiday and time of the year was Navidad. From the delicious smells of her Abuela’s tamales, to the vibrant poinsettias, and beautiful tinikling of silver bells, it all never ceased to take her breath away.
And this Navidad was no exception. In fact, this year was even more special. The many friends and familia that Elena had gained over the years were all gathered together on one of the castle’s more private beaches.
The Royal Sirena family lounged on the shores, munching on kelp tacos as they conversed with Val and Alanso. The Jaquins, on the other hand, had decided to show off some fancy flying work with Isabel’s new and improved sky painting invention.
“Luna, Skylar, You’re going to throw out your backs again.” Migs warned as he stood beside Elena on the ground.
“Oh lighten up Migs!” Luna yelled back as she did some large red swirls.
“Just because we’re still young at heart doesn’t mean you need to ruin our fun!” Skylar exclaimed as he did a tight and reckless barrel roll.
Migs just closed his eyes and took a deep breathe. “He’s your King Migs, he’s your King.”
Elena just chuckled and stroked back some of the agitated fur on Mig’s neck. “Don’t heal them Elena if they get hurt, or else they won’t learn their lesson.”
“As long as you take time to enjoy the party as well.” Elena pointed over her shoulder, “I’m pretty sure Dulce could use some help with the cubs.”
“You’re right,” Migs said. Of course Elena was right, this was their third litter and their largest one yet.
“Try to enjoy yourself Pookie bear.”
Migs groaned loudly, “Not you too.”
Elena smiled as Migs went over and joined his mate and rambunctious children. And once he was settled on the ground and looked a little more relaxed, Elena decided to inspect how the rest of the festivities were going.
She immediately scoped out for her Abuelo and let out a sigh of relief when she caught sight of him. Old wounds and days as a reckless young vigilante were catching up to Francisco more and more, now confining him to a wheelchair, but that didn’t mean he had lost his dramatic flare or guitar producing skills. Her daughter Bianca and nephew Damian were sitting comfortably on his lap and Rafa sat next to him with Elena’s son Julian in her lap as Abuelo seemed to be regaling them with some epic tale of his youth.
Her Abuela was still in a little better shape, as she was kicking an olaball back and forth with her other daughter Ana Lucia and Isa. All their skirts were hiked up high, but Elena was so glad that she decided not to get Lulu a really expensive new Navidad dress like Bianca, lord knows how long it will be until this one was covered in dirt and torn.
Estaban was the most surprising as he was playing and wrestling around with the younger boys, with Damian’s twin Dante clinging to one leg and Naomi’s son Bay on the other. Mingo had his paws on Estaban’s shoulder and was leaning heavily against his back. Elena had asked Estaban once why he decided to not marry or to adopt any children of his own, since despite his pompous exterior, he had the makings of a great father. His only response had been:
‘If I have ever had children, I would hope that would just be like you and your friends. Which is probably why I decided not to reproduce, so I will just stick to watching over and guiding your little ones instead.’
Well, it had mostly been a positive comment.
Elena was relieved that everything was going so well. She had planned many balls and festivals before, but she really wanted this to be something more simple and cozy, something to brighten all their spirits for the next year.
“Gotcha!” An arm wrapped around Elena’s waist and she was pulled into a warm and familiar chest.
Elena looked up to see the loving face of her husband and also caught sight of Naomi and Gabe as well.
All of them were together around a small fire that Naomi had not doubt built, keeping the ocean chill at bay.
“The King has caught the Queen?” Gabe said in a cheeky tone, his daughter Daniella passed out in his arms.
“Just Royal wizard and you know it,” Mateo replied. “Unless you want to start being addressed as Lord Gabe and Princess Naomi.”
Elena laughed loudly at the disgusted looks that twisted on their faces.
“Seriously though Elena, don’t be so busy that you can’t stay with us for a couple of minutes,” Naomi said as she passed her a mug of champurrado.
“I can’t really help it, I’m just so excited that we’re all together for Feliz Navidad,” Elena said as she took a long sip of the chocolatey drink. “We haven’t really been together since the Spring Love Festival.”
A strong breeze then blew in, causing Elena to shiver slightly. Mateo instantly brought her even closer to him, rubbing her arms to warm her up and nuzzling his face into her neck.
“Ugh, I see your kids haven’t stopped you two from being so gross,” Naomi said in a haughty tone as she pushed back a lock of colored hair, that was one strand of purple, dark blue, and bright blue. Something she had gotten not too long after she began her not so secret romance with her Sirena lover.
She was such a hypocrite.
Speaking of which. “How did Marzel do on your guy’s voyage to Corona? Does he finally have his sea legs?”
“For the most part,” Naomi said as she looked over her shoulder to see Marzel being utterly confused by some ornately crusted and designed piece of jewelry that Val was showing off. “He’s working mostly in the rigging now to work on his balance now that he’s not the clumsy Cabin boy anymore.”
“You would think he would’ve jumped pretty high in the ranks by now,” Elena noted.
“You know me too well Elena to know that I don’t give handouts to anyone, and he’ll have plenty of practice when Marzel, Bay and I head out to Norburg.” Naomi took another sip of her drink, “After that, we are heading back to Coronado since Marisa and Marzel want to start teaching Bay on the politics and landscape of the Kingdom.”
‘I see now,’ Elena thought to herself.
Though many had placed bets on it, Marisa had never shown any interest in marriage or even having children of her own. It didn’t mean she was any less a kind, compassionate, and wonderful Queen, but there had definitely been talk about who would take over once she served her reign. It seemed that they had made their decision on the matter and Elena was ecstatic to hear the news, though she did send her friends good fortune and strength about any challenges they may have from naysayers about having a ¼ Sirena heir on the throne.
“And what about you,” Naomi said as she turned to Gabe. “Are you going to be enjoy being a stay-at-home dad while your super smart science professor wife works at the academy?”
“Hardly,” Gabe said as he readjusted Dani. “Royal Preparatory Academy is a school full of other little royal students besides just my boys, with my wife, the princess, as faculty, and our Jaquin guardians.”
“Translation: Gabe is going to keep being the heroic soldier and Captain of the Guards at the school and they’ll never have to worry about safety again,” Mateo explained.
“And what about this little sweetheart?” Elena said as she motioned to her niece, “Is she going to be known by your new comrades as ‘Nina Captain’ as well?”
“She wouldn’t be my daughter if she doesn’t immediately make that first impression,” Gabe said as he kissed Dani’s forehead.
“Itchy papi,” Dani moaned in protest to Gabe’s stubble as she adjusted her head away from his face.
“And here I thought you would have finally gotten a dad haircut to go with that dad beard of yours,” Naomi jested.
“Just because you have a midlife crisis thing going on doesn’t mean you need to drag me into it,” Gabe joked as he pointed to her undercut. “And this hairstyle still goes with this facial hair. I would only need to change it if I grew a patch like Mateo.”
“Say whatever you want, but I’m proud of this,” Mateo said as he rubbed his facial hair. “Though the girl’s certainly loved pulling on it, thankfully Julian wasn’t as grabby.”
“How’s Olivia enjoying her new student?” Elena then asked, knowing full well that her son’s ‘they’re fine’ response to how his lessons were going wasn’t exactly the whole truth.
“Well,” Mateo said as he looked away from her. “He’s may have blown up the courtyard fountain the other day.”
“That sounds about right,” Elena responded, it only seemed natural that the poor fountain be abused a little by the next generation of magic users.
“So who’s taking over for you then while you’re gone then?” Naomi asked.
“Ricardo is.” Gabe then puffed up his chest slightly, “But I already told Isabel we’re not leaving until he can do everything forward, backwards, upside down, and blindfolded.”
Elena quirked up an eyebrow, she hardly believed that Isabel easily agreed to all those terms. But, she knew her sister probably had some tatic up her sleeve in case Gabe really did go too hard into soldier mode.
“Ricardo’s acting just like a new recruit,” Elena then noted, she had been quite surprised with the soldier’s change in personality since he usually seemed so high and mighty. “It’s actually kind of adorable.”
“Oh is that so?” Gabe said with a sly grin.
“Do not do anything Gabe!”
“You better not Gabe,” Naomi said, “Ricardo’s going to have his hands full with the still very reckless and gravity defying Queen.”
“Hey, I can keep count how many times I actually do anything that extreme.”
“Oh boy, now there’s a drinking game for you,” Naomi said not-so-subtly to Gabe.
“And die of alcohol poisoning?” Mateo added.
“Hey!” Elena said as bumped her hip against his, “You’re supposed to be my backup. That might be considered some treasonous behavior to your Queen!”
All three of her friends though just immediately busted out into roaring laughter, not taking her threat at all seriously.
Elena of course laughed along with them, but in the middle of her giddiness, she felt some realization that stabbed into her. This may be one of the last navidads she had that felt…routine? Traditional? Whole? She wasn’t entirely sure. There were already so many changes going on, who knew what this new year would bring.
“What’s wrong?” Mateo then asked.
“Why would anything be wrong?”
“Your eyebrows are scrunching together and your nose it twitching,” Mateo said as he tapped her forehead. “You only do that when something is bothering you.”
Since when did he get so perceptive of her? Then again, she was never one to hide her emotions very well.
“It’s just weird to think that we’ve reached a point in our lives where we’ll all separate in different directions, but still come back together.” Elena looked down bashfully into her mug, “It’s just not for very long anymore.”
“But you know you’re not getting rid of me that easily,” Naomi said proudly. “Especially when you’ll need someone to take over as Supreme Commanding Master Chief Admiral once my mom steps down.”
“Are you really keeping that title?” Gabe asked.
“Well, we will have to throw Grand Council Member somewhere in there too.”
“I guess all we can really do is just to focus on the happy moments and make sure we can preserve them,” Mateo then said. “That way we can pull them out and use them as a source of power and goodness for when the bad times do come. Otherwise we’ll just keep ourselves worrying and stop moving forward.”
And with just that one sentence, Elena felt immense comfort. She smiled as she laced her fingers with his, “I believe you just earned a pardon from your Queen, Royal Wizard.”
Mateo returned her smile and leaned down to kiss her forehead.
Elena then turned towards her friends and proudly held her mug out. “To always being together.”
The other three immediately joined her in festive toast.
“To always being together.”

Also, I didn’t realize until I saw the stuff being posted today that, since this was a Secret Santa exchange, it should probably actually be Christmas themed. I hope you like this anyway! I guess you can sort of handwave it since Navidad stuff was banned during the Shuriki era?

Feline Navidad @cartoonfangirl1218 !!!
Happy Navidad, EoA Fandom!
I’m very happy to participate in this Secret Santa! @cartoonfangirl1218 i was very excited to be your SS so I hope you enjoy my gift as I enjoyed yours.
Also @eoa-secret-santa-2018 thanks for doing this event. And I wish all of you a happy Navidad! <3
This could be a little angsty bc i couldn’t help myself. I love my baby Esteban </3
Summary: No decorations or food, but at least he had good company that Navidad.
Esteban blinked when he heard what Captain Turner’s daughter had said to him before he left the port. Daniel Turner gave the chancellor an awkward expression and soon apologized about it, but the chancellor was deep in his own thoughts and simply corresponded the farewell of the young girl, wishing her a merry Christmas although with a less enthusiastic tone than the one she had used.
It was almost six in the afternoon when he left the harbor, and returning to the castle would take him less than fifteen minutes if he got into the carriage. But still thinking about what the young Turner had said, he decided to send the driver back to the castle and take a walk around the kingdom. Shuriki was in the castle, but he was sure she would not be waiting for him unless she needed something from him.
Thinking about Shuriki brought him back to what had caught him off guard. Navidad. It was Navidad! He had completely forgotten the date, too focused on his usual duties as chancellor. It was not something that happened often, he was usually aware of dates, being responsible for planning events, visits and trips for the queen; Esteban was especially aware of the holidays, because those were the dates on which he should be alert that there was no music, laughter or any kind of celebration in the streets if Shuriki decided to take a tour of the kingdom in her carriage.
There wasn’t much Esteban could do about it. It saddened him to see Avalor so dull and discolored, when it had once been one of the liveliest kingdoms, famous for its traditions and carnivals attended by the royalty of other kingdoms. But Shuriki despised such celebrations, and there was nothing that he could do to change her mind.
Walking through the streets of Avalor, as everyday as the rest of the year, he couldn’t help himself and bought some buñuelos in the Nuñez e Hijo bakery. Upon entering he could notice a sweet aroma that enveloped the whole place, but there was no pot with punch or hot chocolate in sight. It was not difficult to suppose that the inhabitants of the kingdom continued with their traditions in secret whenever possible, although always being aware of the guards that were truly loyal to the queen.
“Oh, Chancellor! What brings you here this afternoon?” Mrs. Nuñez greeted him with a smile, the same one that some villagers who didn’t hate him like they hated the guards who walked the streets making sure that the queen’s word was fulfilled. There were very few who greeted him with a smile on their faces, but he couldn’t blame the rest for not trusting him at all. He also had reservations about trusting other people for a long time.
“I’m only passing by, señora, although I must admit that I would like to take something for the trip. Do you have something sweet, perhaps?” Esteban said, and although the woman didn’t seem suspicious of his presence in her business, he felt a little uncomfortable given the events of two weeks ago.
“I think I have just what you need, Chancellor,” the woman said, and took out a tray full of buñuelos to put them in a bag. There were only five left, and they were undoubtedly delicious. Although Esteban felt a small weight in his conscience knowing that he would never enjoy them like the ones his grandmother used to prepare. “It’s what’s left. I would offer you punch, but we sold the last few liters before you arrived. ”
Esteban smiled, taking his paper bag and looking in his pocket for some coins. “It’s better this way. How much…?”
“No, don’t worry. They are a gift,” assured Mrs. Nuñez, and before Esteban could say anything, she added. “I insist. It’s a ‘thank you’, after what happened with the guards.”
Esteban would have preferred that she didn’t mention it, but it had been inevitable not to remember it. The new generation of cadets had many outstanding members, some of them came from families full of soldiers who were not entirely happy with the change of administration or with the way Shuriki ruled. Even then, most of these cadets wanted to continue with their lineage and simply fell silent and were content to follow the orders of their superiors.
Cadet Gabriel Nuñez was an exception. The son of the baker who had shown the talent and discipline to join the royal guard. And he had not bothered to hide his disdain for the authority of the queen and the abuses committed by some guards who patrolled the busiest roads in the kingdom. Because of this, the young man had become the center of attention of some guards, older than him, who fortunately decided not to tell Shuriki about it.
Armando had run into his office to alert him of what the cook had heard when he returned from the market, and Esteban had to take a horse and pray to arrive in time before those barbarians destroyed the Nuñez bakery. And he hadn’t even thought about it, he always tried to avoid the damage that this new era could cause, or amend it. But stopping and confronting a small group of soldiers hadn’t been very characteristic of him once he could think about it moments later. In fact, just thinking about it brought to him the memory of his cousin Elena, or his aunt Lucia. Because without a doubt they would have done the same.
He had felt fear at that moment, fear that the queen would find out what had happened at any moment. Although he had acted perfectly, scolding the soldiers for making a scandal on a public road in broad daylight. He could imagine his family proud of him in the same way that Mrs. Nuñez was grateful, but Esteban felt shame about it.
He did not deserve that confidence.
“Feliz Navidad, Chancellor!” the woman exclaimed as he decided to accept the small gift and walk away as fast as possible.
Remembering what happened and thinking about his family at Navidad was filling him with the huge weight of guilt that he tried to ignore on a day to day basis but it was impossible to do so. Not with Avalor extinguishing in front of his eyes, not with the fear of being punished for having avoided retaliation against a cadet who defied Shuriki, much less could he get rid of his guilt by being forced to spend every day in front of the tapestry that covered the painting where his grandparents and Isabel were trapped, unconscious, lifeless.
He didn’t deserve a Feliz Navidad, nor the trust of the few people who had seen his efforts to lessen the consequences of what he had caused. The whole kingdom was suffering the consequences of his mistake and that could never be taken away from him, no matter how hard he tried.
He couldn’t return to the palace in that state and he couldn’t stay in a place where anyone could see him. He decided to hurry up to the only place where he could stay until he calmed down, just a few blocks from the bakery.
Upon entering Doña Paloma’s Emporium, he didn’t hesitate to close the doors behind him even though it was still sales time for her.
“Esteban! What do you think you’re doing?” Doña Paloma shouted behind a desk where she was leaning on, making notes in a notebook. He immediately approached the chancellor but her initial anger turned into confusion when she saw Esteban trying to hide his face with one of his hands, trying to contain an expression of terrible pain without success. “Are you alright?”
He took a moment to recover, trying to stop breathing so heavily and pressing the bridge of his nose as if he felt a migraine, although in reality he was trying to contain his tears.
“I’m fine. I just… I just came to bring you this. I thought we could have a coffee or something”, he commented, still not daring to remove his hand from his face, showing her the paper bag. Doña took it, knowing that Esteban was lying. It wasn’t the first time she had seen him break that way so she decided to give him a few moments to recover.
“Put the 'Closed’ sign. I have some punch in my office.” She walked away in silence, and Esteban was grateful for it and for allowing him to stay.
He forced himself to compose himself as quickly as possible, but the feeling of heaviness and guilt continued to haunt him.
When he entered Doña Paloma’s office he found it as neat as usual. Beautifully decorated and with a plate of buñuelos and two cups with punch on the table where she used to invite her friends to tea. She didn’t rush him forward, but remained silent as she watched him from her seat.
“I cannot believe it’s Navidad. The days pass very fast” Esteban commented as he sat in front of her, bringing his hands to his cup. The sweet aroma of the punch filled his nose and he recognized it as the same that Mrs. Nuñez had wanted to offer him.
Doña let out a small snort, moving her spoon into her cup. “One would think that you would have gotten used to it, after so many years.”
Sometimes it seemed that way. Esteban had committed himself to his role as loyal servant to Shuriki, trying to be useful to secure his place in the throne hierarchy and thus help his people, make Avalor prosper as it should.
Some days were easier than others, when that tyrant was easy to please and disasters could in fact be solved if he tried hard enough. But it wasn’t always like that. He couldn’t please the witch all the time. He didn’t have much power to protect the citizens, the merchants, and the cadets frustrated with the woman from whom they received orders. He was afraid, and he felt weak. The slightest provocation could unleash even worse consequences. Any disobedience would result in more wounded people, more severity, more prohibitions or more threats to throw the last of their family into the ocean.
And although it wasn’t the first time it happened, Esteban felt the anguish of thirty-six years in the witch’s service fall on his shoulders. So much time. More than three decades and it seemed that it would continue that way.
Realizing that he has thirty-six years of his life as a servant of Shuriki, hiding that he had been the cause of her taking power hit him hard. More than half of his life being that witch’s lackey. He spent more Navidades and Día de los Muertos beside that harpy than he had with his family. And there was nothing he could do to fix it.
“I can’t. It was decades ago but I still miss the old Avalor. The carnivals, the parties, the music… my family,” he said to himself, observing the fruit punch and wishing it was the hot chocolate he used to prepare with his aunt Lucía every Navidad since the year his parents had died.
Doña pressed her lips lightly, thinking of memories that she preferred not to bring up. The only positive side she saw in restricting parties was that she avoided thinking about the family she had failed to save. She could pretend, like the rest of the merchants, that the dinner of each year was a formality to celebrate the end of a successful time for sales. But that wasn’t Navidad, not for her.
“Elena would have been an… excellent queen, you know? I know she would have liked you,” Esteban continued after taking a sip of the steaming liquid. His voice betrayed the knot in his throat, but he seemed to speak more easily.
“Of course. How could someone not like me?” she joked, and Esteban smiled. They had that kind of conversation before, and he always managed to relax having someone to share his memories with. Doña Paloma was that someone.
“Oh, no. Elena liked everyone, and everyone adored her,” he clarified, smiling. “It’s the Flores charm, you see.”
Doña Paloma smiled, and Esteban continued talking about his family. His voice showed pride when talking about his grandfather, fondness when remembering his grandmother, sadness when mentioning Isabel and guilt when referring to his uncle and aunt, King Raúl and Queen Lucía.
And although those same feelings were there when he said something about Elena, there was also something different in Esteban’s eyes. A small glimmer of hope, as if in the background Esteban believed that it was possible to put an end to the situation of the kingdom, that perhaps the legitimate heir to the throne could come back to life and save them.
And it was silly, really, but Doña Paloma wouldn’t mention anything about it. Much less when it was evident that even Esteban wasn’t aware of that little hope in his eyes when he spoke of his cousin, the young princess with whom he had grown up since childhood.
They continued talking until the punch and the buñuelos were over. Esteban continued talking about his family and Doña Paloma made little mention of hers, as usual. When Esteban left the Emporium it was almost ten o'clock at night, the streets were almost completely empty, and he said goodbye to Doña without any mistletoe on them. It was Navidad and in Avalor it was just one more day, apparently.
Walking back to the palace Esteban could appreciate again the monotonous appearance of the kingdom. There were no decorations, no inns or anything that was there before. At home his family wouldn’t be waiting for him, nor gifts under the tree, nor special food, much less the affection he had needed for thirty-six years.
It had been an empty Navidad, except for the small dinner with Doña Paloma. And next year would not be different, he was sure of that. But that little talk while allowing himself to trust someone else and sharing a snack had meant a lot to Esteban.
That night he went to sleep thinking that he should continue with his duty and amend as much as possible the mistake he had made. For Avalor and its people. For his family and for himself, too.

Feliz Navidad!!!
Feliz Navidad @princessgina88 !! I am your Secret Santa!!!! You have NO idea how hard it was to write this @eoa-secret-santa-2018 gift for you, but t will be worth it to see your incredible reaction here.
So, without further ado, your gift!!!!
P.S. Try not to get a sugar coma from the ending.
                                  A Very Special Navidad Morning
T'was the morning of Navidad and Estéban was still sleeping in his bed. Dreaming of singing and dancing and family in his head. Estéban had a pleasant smile on his sleeping face. All was peaceful. All was in place.
“ESTÉBAN!” Estéban’s peaceful sleep was disturbed as his door slammed open and standing there was Isabel in her nightgown. She ran towards the sleeping chancellor and started shaking him. “Wake up Primo, it’s Navidad morning! We get to open presents!”
Estéban groans as he turned to Isabel, opening one eye. “Do I have to?” He mumbled tiredly.
Isabel giggled as she rolled her eyes. “Yes Primo, you do. Now get up, we have presents to open!” She starts pulling him out of bed.
Estéban chuckles a bit and starts to sit up on his own, stretching out all the kinks. “Fine, I’m up.” But before he could fully wake up, Isabel grabbed his hand and pulled him along to the entrance way of the castle. “WHOA!” He yelped as she pulled.
The two ran all the way to the Navidad tree in the palace entrance way. Isabel immediately dove into the tree searching for, what Estéban assumes, her gift. She stood up and ran over to him, holding out a present wrapped in yellow and red. Estéban rose a brow. “Do you need help opening it?”
Isabel shook her head as she continued holding the present to Estéban. “It’s yours. It’s my present to you. Open it already!” She whined the last sentence.
Estéban chuckled a bit at her childishness and decided to let it slide, since she rarely acts like this and it’s Navidad, and sat next to the tree and opened his present. What was inside melted his heart.
Inside the present was a picture frame that held a drawing. But not just any drawing. It was a drawing of a young Estéban smiling with his parents, and he knows it’s a drawing because the art style was the same as the drawing Isabel did of her parents a couple Día de Los Muertos ago.
“Isa…” Estéban was almost speechless. Isabel, drew this, for him?
“I asked Abuela why she and Abuelo had the only picture of Tío and Tía, and she said you also have one, but you only use it for Dia de Los Muertos. Like, you only have it out for that time only. So, I asked if I could borrow hers to draw a copy for you so you can view it whenever you want to.” She then grew sheepish. “Do…you…like…it?”
Estéban glanced at her. “Like it?” He then slowly smiles as he’s chuckling and laughing. “I love it!” He put the picture down and pulled Isabel onto his lap to hug her. “Thank you, Isabel.”
Isabel giggled as she hugged Estéban’s neck. “You’re welcome, Primo.”
“Oh, Estéban~!” Elena singsonged as she smiled mischievously. Then she pulled out a familiar looking plant and held it above the three cousins. “Guess who’s under the mistletoe~?” She singsonged again.
Estéban had no time to defend himself from the brutal attack of Isabel kissing him on the cheek, then pulling back while giggling mischievously. Elena knelt and kissed him on his other cheek then pulled away, also laughing mischievously.
Estéban laughed. “You two are awful!” He then pulled them both in a hug before they could get away and kissed them both on their cheeks, both girls squealing in surprise and delight.
And the rest of the morning was filled with the laughter of the three cousins, teasing and loving each other.

Feliz Navidad @shasta627 !!!
EoA Secret Santa 2k18
@eoa-secret-santa-2018 @shasta627 !!! My state mate !!! Merry Christmas !!! I felt so happy when I got matched with you for this and I hope I did ur OTP some justice ❤️ sending you all the best and warmest Christmas wishes ❤️
Isa had always felt like the odd one out. Well, not when mama & papa were alive… Glued to one of their hips she was always their constant company. But lots has changed since then & time doesn’t fill in the gaps.
Snuggling into her oversized covers, staring out her window to the dark night sky, it was almost 10:30 and the noises of the Christmas eve party were still carrying clear.
‘I would be the one to get sick right before Navidad..’
She closed her eyes and sighed trying not to think about it all.
But was hard when the bands sound was her favorite Navidad songs & she swears she’s heard Elena’s laugh atleast a dozen times.
The Castillo-Flores have always been great hosts. Mama & Papa would throw parties like no one had ever seen & Elena was following in their footsteps like a pro. There was always music, games, presents, & FOOD.
Tamales, Flan, Ponche Navideño, Pozole, Pavo, Ensalada de Noche Buena, Bunuelos, Rosca de Reyes…
it all looked amazing in her mind & she felt her eyes watering at the thought of missing out and not being missed.
Everyone, Abuela, Abuelo, Esteban, Elena, Mateo… Gabe.. she knew they were only a hallway and staircase away. Yet the heavy ness in her chest made it feel like it was so much further.
//
At the stroke of midnight the big grandfather clock chimed deep and low & the muffled cheers from the party rose back to Isa’s ears.
Feeling sorry for herself earlier she had squeezed her eyes shut and practically forced herself into a nap.
“Dumb idea Isa… now you’re not even close to being tired,” she had scolded herself out loud.
“What’s a dumb idea?”
The deep yet recognized voice made her jump in her bed and turn her whole body to face the door.
“GABE! W-what are you doing here?!”
Single handedly Gabe closed the bedroom door with a gentle click & put a finger to his lips to shush her.
“Hey I’m sneaking here, gotta keep it quiet or I’ll get caught.”
“Get caught? By who? What’s behind your back?”
Still in his soldiers uniform Gabe chuckled and approached the bed. “For being sick you sure do ask a lot of questions.”
When he was next to her bedside he took a bow revealing his prize.
“Surprise!” He whispered with enthusiasm.
A plate full of DESSERTS.
Isa felt her breath escape her looking down at all the sweets. It was late.. and she knew she shouldn’t eat even one of them, but she also knew in her heart that every single one of them was as good as gone.
“Gabe, thank you.. so much.” She looked up at him with sparkling eyes, her hands clasped beneath her chin. She reminded him of the porcelains dolls in all the window shops. It made his heart skip a beat.
“Ah no worries, it’s the least I could do while you’re cooped up from the party. Besides, I know you gotta sweet tooth.” He winked at her and if he hadn’t mentioned the party she was sure she would have melted right then.
“Yeah the party sounds amazing. You guys are having a blast downstairs huh?”
Gabe placed the plate on her lap and sat himself on the edge of the bed. “Hm, it’s ok.” Hunched over he looked at his hands and Isa got the feeling he was holding something back.
She picked up a cookie and nibbled on it pretending to feign not caring. “It’s ok I know it’s been fun. I’ve heard Elena laugh more times than I can count.”
Gabe looked Isa over and considered her words, “You know, Elena and your cousin are good at putting on a show. They know how to be ‘on’ when they have to be.”
Isa had not been expecting that response and her curiosity was intrigued. “What do you mean by that?”
Gabe played with his hands again clearly uneasy about something. He was silent a moment longer before answering. “I mean… I guess that… well any party is just going to be ok if you’re not there. Hard to have a good time when I know you’re not feeling well and alone.” He was blushing furiously at the confession and Isa could barely believe what he had said.
Was this a freaking Christmas miracle sent by Cupid himself?
Their relationship had been hanging in a strange balance. Constantly swaying between friends and something more… but ultimately stuck in an uncomfortable middle. She had been trying her best to show him how she felt and the Christmas Eve party was supposed to be her chance. She had picked out the grandest ballgown and was planning a waltz with him… but all that flew out the window when a nasty flu had settled in. This… however… so unexpected.. she’d never think he’d come to her first… this changed everything. It felt like a magical energy was in the air.
“I’m sorry, I should probably go now.” He was just like a little kid, standing up suddenly unable to bear the attention.
“Wait!” She tried to push off her covers in an attempt to follow him. She didn’t want to lose this moment!
“Isa, I really shouldn’t be up here. I don’t want to get caught. Plus you can’t follow me out, I want you to get better not worse.”
“I won’t follow if you don’t go. Who are you so worried is going to catch you Mr. Captain of the Royal Guard?”
Gabe crossed his arms and took a deep breath. “I’ll stay but only a little bit longer. I-I want to do this right Isabelle. I don’t want your family to get the wrong impression of me.”
Isa managed a simple “Oh.” and that carried more meaning than anyone could ever know.
“I’m a little fuzzy on how this all goes.” He confessed. “But I want your family to know I can be trusted and that I respect you above all else. That’s.. that’s why I should go. I don’t want you to be the gossip for the new year.”
Isa nodded her head, self consciously brushing her hands over her curls.
‘He would tell me all this when I haven’t brushed my hair and when I’m pale as a ghost!’
“I understand. You should know though, that my family loves you. They do trust you. And I know you would never hurt me.”
Gabe smiled and seemed more at ease. “Goodnight Isa, I’ll visit first thing at sunrise. I promise.” He made his way to the door and turned back for one last glance.
She was still fiddling with the ends of her curls, a slight blush on her cheeks, from the fever or something else he wasn’t sure, but she raised her warm eyes to him full of faith in his promises, “It’s a date.”
//
A/N: I struggled with this ship cuz I don’t really ship them but I see their potential a lot! I guess my headcanons are that Gabe is super traditional with her, wants to court her the right way & be her protector but is also kinda hard headed about how to go about doing it all. And I can see Isa being the girl who wants that & is more girly girl domesticated house-wifey than Elena haha. That’s just me tho.
