I am probably wording those thoughts weirdly, but upon re-reading the two chapters in questions, somehow Kaiba's comments of “You’re so caught up in your revenge on the Pharaoh, you’ve forgotten your brothers are here too! They’re guests in my ‘Kingdom’ too. You’re the one who’s sending them into the darkness if you defeat me. You’re the one willing to offer them up!” as well “They’re my guests, in my theme park. You win, you sacrifice them.” and Hanaq being forced to realize what this means for her brothers' souls in chapter 43, almost screams like a "NOT LIKE THIS!!"-response to Marik's words of that "sometimes there’s no choice but to hurt those you love!” from chapter 23. Or at least, NOT intended as as a possible soul lost forever in the Shadow Realm unless freed and returned to either living body or moving on to the Afterlife-sort of lesson in "Be careful what sort of stuff you say because you may invite that to happen to yourself or someone dear to yourself"

Oh yeah. Those words are haunting the Ishtars now. Hanaq chose her path and now is seeing the consequences and what it is costing her family. If she had realised what it meant for her brothers she wouldn't have done it, but Shadow Games have to be fair and if Seto winning meant he had to give up his reason for living, then Hanaq had to have the same wager and now she's grieving that cost.

"NOT LIKE THIS" indeed. She would never have wanted the power to crush Meisa if she had known this would be the cost.

But it's too late and now she has to wait and see if Meisa can defeat her...

I am honestly glad to see that you like the character. Canon doesn't do Yami Bakura or Thief King Bakura enough justice and I very much wanted to give my version the screen time and character development she deserved.

Also I needed the mood booster today, so thank you.

You wanna know the power of genderbending in fanfic? Characters I barely gave a shit about suddenly become much more interesting when their gender is flipped. Taking @enneadau for example, @joeytaylor made Y. Bakura/Thief King Bakura, a character I truthfully don't care much about, into a woman, and suddenly I adore the shit out of her? Something about the traits the character originally had, being put into feminine form, changed the appeal of the character themself! She's as snappy, sarcastic, and snarly as the original, but somehow that makes the character more likeable (to me). Idk if it's because don't normally get characters like that (or maybe we do and I'm just under a rock), but I love it. (Granted, Joey's done a lot more than just flip the gender, she's reworked Bakura's motive and place the story, but I just wanted to speak on the gender flip aspect.)

Author Update:

There will be a huge update on the 1st of May, one for Battle of the Gods, and two others that are Ennead related. I'm sure you can guess that one is a Side B but I won't spoil what the other one is.

Battle of the Gods will take a 1 month break while the second, incredibly important, thing updates once a week until the 26th of May, when the final chapter of four goes up.

Then Battle of the Gods will start updating again on June 1st.

As regards to my personal life, things are slowing down. I'm still not entirely mentally okay, but I'm back and updating, and there's nothing that can be done for my family.

Unfortunately, we've been given the warning that this is Game Over, and it's only a matter of time before we lose my grandmother. So please bear with me while I try and handle this news and the upcoming mega update.

Trust me, you're going to want to see what's coming.

There’s a fic on fanfiction(.)net that I’ve kept tabs on for years to see if it’s been updated or not. While I’m no longer even in the fandom it’s written for, it just has one of the greatest storylines I’ve ever read. Last time it was updated was 2011.

The other day, I decided to reread the entire thing and leave a very in-depth review of what I thought of each chapter. I also mentioned how I started reading it when I was 13 and am now 21, but always came back to see if it was ever finished because I loved it so dearly.

Today, said author sent me a private message saying that her analytics showed that the story was still getting views even after all these years, but no one ever bothered to leave reviews other than “update soon!!!”, so she never felt motivated enough to finish it. She said that me reviewing every single chapter with lengthy paragraphs made her cry and meant the world to her. She also mentioned that she felt encouraged to write the two remaining chapters needed to complete the story and that she would send me a message the night before she updates the fic.

I’m literally sobbing. I’m so excited :’)

Please always remember to leave a review when reading fanfiction!!! It means a lot to a writer.

If you want your readers to remember something, you need to REPEAT THAT SHIT SEVERAL TIMES

So therefore, The Quote from a main antagonist has been repeated 3 times, hopefully that's enough to make it stick

But I did have a five chapter gap between mention 2 and 3... so I'm gonna add another one to be safe
