CHAPTER THIRTY-ONE (1.8k WRITTEN)

SYNOPSIS…. Gaming is a common hobby for college students nowadays, with Overwatch being the game of choice for both Lee Heeseung and his favorite streamer loved.venus. The boy shows his love for his favorite streamer behind the screen name lee.bambi, though he doesn’t realize it was the campus fashionista that he hated ever so much behind the screen.

“Heeseung seriously, why are you here? you’re soaked,” you exclaimed as you rush outside to meet the older boy. As you reached the boy he grabbed your hand, ignoring the unopened umbrella in your hand down.

“Come on let’s go,” he says as he begins to pull you, your hands intertwined as the rain beats down on your back. You’re confused, questioning why he didn’t drive or let you use the umbrella. He turned to you, noticing you lagging behind as you got lost in your thoughts. Heeseung stops in the middle of the campus courtyard, letting go of your hand opting to crouch down in front of you.

“You aren’t being serious are you,” you question the boy as he continues to crouch. When he shakes his head you let out a small sigh in response. You grab your umbrella once more, holding it over the both of you as you reluctantly get on his back. Heeseung takes a second to adjust you on his back before he begins to set off towards his apartment. m

“Honestly I came impulsively, it wasn’t raining when I left my apartment. I haven’t heard from you in over a week and I was beginning to worry… And I missed you,” the boy said as his focus stayed on the road in front of him. You could feel your heart racing in your chest, so much was happening between the quick sprint you just did to being very aware of Heeseung’s holding you up against his back. You hug the boy tightly, both to hold on but also to hide from the butterflies that threatened to escape your body.

The sound of the rain on your umbrella worked to sooth you as your head found solace in the crook of Heeseung’s neck. You could feel the exhaustion of these past few weeks surge through your body as the fatigue began to creep in. Closing your eyes for a few minutes before awakening to Heeseung nudging your side with his elbow.

“We’re here sleepy head, can you close the umbrella so I can bring us inside?” You nod in response, climbing off his back to shake your umbrella off before closing it. Letting out a yawn, you face the boy who is looking at you with a small smile. He leads you into his apartment complex, guiding you with a hand on your back.

After a short ride in the elevator to the 7th floor of the building, you were now behind Heeseung as he unlocked the door to his shared apartment. Once the door was opened he quickly dragged you in as he searched the living room for what you assumed were his roommates. When no one was there he went over to one of the bedroom doors, knocking on it.

“Yunjin, can I borrow some clothes,” the boy asked through the door.

“The fuck you need my clothes for,” a voice questioned as the door swung open revealing Heeseung’s ginger roommate. She didn’t notice you at first, more focused on questioning her roommate's request.

“It’s not for me, it’s for her.” Heeseung steps to the side, allowing Yunjin to finally meet you face to face. You watched as her face went pale as she let out a gasp quickly grabbing and leading you into her room.

“Heeseung you idiot! You’re gonna give both of you colds, go shower, I'll take care of her for now.” Before the boy could respond, Yunjin shut the door to her room in his face. She pushed you into her ensuite bathroom, turning on the shower for you and laying out some towels.

“I’ll grab some pajamas for you to wear, just focus on warming yourself up. I’ll leave them on the bed for when you’re done. I’m gonna go heat up some hot chocolate for you and that dumbass.” With that she leaves the room, her exit signaled by the door shutting.

You take in your surroundings, it’s a nice bathroom especially since it’s connected to her bedroom. She has plants hanging in the room while her skin care is carefully arranged next to her sink. You let out a sigh, getting ready to shower.

The hot water hit your body in contrast to the cold rain water that had soaked your skin just previously. Replaying your scene with Heeseung in the rain, how he pulled you along as the downpour covered your body before carrying you on his back. Not talking to anyone seemed like it was the easiest way to counter the infamous gossip page, only ever talking to your fellow fashion peers. Though it eliminated the outside stress, you felt so alone and isolated which only made you stress more.

Why Heeseung?

Couldn’t help but wonder as to why the boy that had always openly expressed his distaste for you was now the one by your side. You had been ignoring his messages, not to spite him but because you were ignoring everyone hoping that immersing yourself in your work would make the conflicts in your life disappear. Clearly though it wasn’t effective as you were now approaching the last 3 days before the expo and you felt at your lowest.

You scrub your body as you let out a frustrated sigh, you felt helpless to your situation. Turning off the water, you step out to dry yourself as your reflection meets your eyes through the steam in the air. You could barely recognize yourself, eye bags taking over your face as fatigue had finally caught up to you. Wrapping yourself in the towel Yunjin had set out, you venture out into the connected bedroom to gather the clothes she had laid out for you.

Quickly changing into the pajama shorts and sweater left out on the bed, craving the hot chocolate the girl had mentioned before. You pat yourself down before cracking the bedroom door open, being greeted with the sight of Yunjin and who you assume is Heeseung’s other roommate teasing the boy who had dragged you here in the rain.

“When did you get so bold Lee Heeseung,” the other boy said as he wrapped his arms around Heeseung. Rolling his eyes in response, Heeseung pushed the boy off of him before grabbing a mug of what you hoped was hot chocolate for the table.

Yunjin was the first one to notice you, ushering you over to her side as the two boys began to bicker. She handed you a mug of hot chocolate which you accepted immediately, taking a sip of the hot beverage before facing towards the two boys. They were faced away from you, neither of them picking up on your presence as they continued to push each other's buttons.

While you sipped on your hot chocolate, enjoying the dynamic between Heeseung and his roommate, Yunjin decided it was enough. The girl clearing her throat in order to catch the two’s attention, wide eyes meet yours as they turn to face their roommate. “I think we should properly introduce ourselves to our guest. I’m Yunjin and that’s Jeongin, we’ve both been friends with Heeseung since childhood and now we’re stuck living with him.”

”Hey you asked me to live with you guys,” Heeseung interjects with a frown on his face. You couldn’t help but muffle out a laugh at the dynamic between the three. Yunjin shakes her head, grabbing who you now know is Jeongin and started pulling him towards the bedrooms.

”Goodnight you two, we’re exhausted.”

”Speak for yourself Jennifer! I wasn’t done with Heeseung yet,” Jeongin argues as Yunjin pushes him into one of the rooms. Now it was just you and Heeseung standing around in the kitchen island. Silence engulfed the room as the both of you just continued to sip on hot chocolate.

“You can sleep in my bed, I will sleep out here on the couch.” Heeseung says as he finishes his cup of the hot liquid, meeting your eyes as he waits for your response. When you simply nod in response the boy walks out of the kitchen, leaving and then returning with a pillow and blanket. Shortly after his return you as well finished your cup of hot chocolate, make your way over to the boy. You gathered all the courage in you as you tugged the back of his sweater as he set up for the night.

“Thank you for dragging me out of my studio,” you quickly mutter out, your grasp tightening on his sweater as you spoke. Heeseung laughed in response, prompting you to push the boy away.

“Hey! You can’t push me after you just thanked me!” Heeseung turned to face you, a huge smile taking over his face. You roll your eyes at the boy before a tired yawn escapes your lips. “I think it’s bedtime for you.”

”I feel bad though, you went out of your way to get me and we aren’t even gonna spend time together.” You stared at the floor, biting your lip as if to show how ashamed you were of the words that keep coming from your mouth. ”We could watch a movie or something as we fall asleep,” you suggest to the boy.

”Yeah totally while we’re in different rooms.” His comment was met with you shoving him again.

“Well then let's sleep together,” You say, the boy's eyes widening in response. “Not like that you weirdo,” you say as you turn towards the room you’ve figured was Heeseung’s. You can hear the boy shuffling behind you grabbing what he had previously brought out followed by the sound of his footsteps. Once you reach the bedroom, you find yourself just flopping down onto the bed that took up the corner of the room. You pull the covers over your head before Heeseung even gets the chance to lay down in bed.

“You gotta share the blanket,” Heeseung says, tugging the large comforter from you as he shuffles into bed. As he lays next to you, the feeling of his arms wrapped around your waist overtakes your mind. You could feel his chest rise and fall as he is pressed against your back as you try to get comfortable in his embrace. You turn around, your chest is flushed against his and eyes searching for his.

“Hi,” you say quietly as your eyes finally meet his in the dark room.

“Hi to you too,” he says as he tightens his grasp around you. He begins to rub shapes into your back over the fabric of the lended sweater, the sensation lulling you to sleep. You rest your head against his neck, closing your eyes as he hums.

“Heeseung you’re something else you know...”

”That’s what you like about me though,” he responds. You only hum in response, feeling yourself fall asleep in the boy’s arms. Heeseung kisses the top of your head as he nuzzles his nose into your hair. “Goodnight name.”

CHAPTER TWENTY-THREE (written 1.8k)

Heeseung didn’t know it but on the other side of his bedroom door were two guests pacing back and forth, one holding a box that held his favorite banana bread whilst the other held a cat in his hands. The anxiety that stood on the other side of the wooden door was unknown to him as he hid under his comforter praying to just fall back asleep once more. Though the red haired girl on the other side of that very door had enough of it, shocking the anxious ridden boys as she started to bang on Heeseung’s door.

”Rise and shine princess! You have guests so be decent cause we’re coming inside in ten seconds!”

”Leave me alone,” is all that Heeseung could muster up to say, turning to face the wall. It had been over a week since the instance with his father and his drunken “scandal” that made its way around campus. He doesn’t have the energy to face the reality of what had happened that day, he finally stood up for himself but was disowned and embarrassed. Then his baggage being aired out to the whole campus by gossipers was a whole other cherry on top of his mess of a sundae.

”Ten,” Heeseung rolls his eyes at his roommate's countdown. He had remembered to lock his door after his shower the girl had dragged him out to take earlier that same day.

“Nine… Eight…” ‘Man, she is persistent’ he thought to himself as he only sunk deeper into his bed.

“Seven… Six… Damn it Heeseung I’m coming in there,” the frustration spewing out from Yunjin’s mouth. Heeseung sat up in a panic, facing the one and only Huh Yunjin, as she had just kicked his door open. Heeseung pulled the covers back over his head, curling up in a ball, wishing that the girl would go away. The peace settled before the true storm, suddenly the boy was met with a body crushing his own.

“Heeseungie~ I’ve missed you,” the youngest in the room says in a mocking tone and he pinches Heeseung’s body through the thick blanket between the two. Peeking out from his blankets he is met face to face with a laughing Niki, the boy being amused by Heeseung's frightened and disheveled expression. “We bring gifts!”

”We?” Heeseung’s expression shifts to one of confusion as Niki moves off him, ushering him to look back towards the door. There stood Jungwon in his door frame hiding behind Yunjin, he hadn’t met the boy in person but that was the least of his concerns when he noticed the small cat resting in his arms.

“Is that Artemis?” Heeseung was shocked and confused by the sudden presence of the small kitten he had rescued. Jungwon walked over to Heeseung’s bed, gently placing the cat in the boy's arms, not failing to notice how the boy melts as Artemis cuddles into him. “How?”

Heeseung’s bambi eyes were searching for answers among the faces in the room. That’s when Jiung walks in, Jeongin in tow, with a box from the bakery he loves so much. Tears started to fill the boy's wide eyes as he clung on to the kitten in his arms, not failing to miss the hiccup in his breath.

“You know, Jungwon here is close friend’s with Name, when she found out about how much of a loser you’ve been, not only did she send Artemis but she also got your favorite treats.” Feeling the bed sink as Yunjin sits next to him, resting her head on his shoulder whilst rubbing shapes into his back as she continues speaking. “Heeseung you may be a loser but you’re also the bravest person I know for what you did that day, you stood up for yourself even if that meant losing almost everything.”

”But I did lose everything,” the boy says between sobs, his eyes glued to his lap where the kitten was not curled up in.

“You didn’t lose everything, look around you, these are your people. We want nothing more than to see you do what is gonna make you happy, and if that means your family disowns you then we will be your new family. Heeseung we’ve been friends for years now and trust me if I was going anywhere I would’ve done it a long time ago.” The redhead girl let out a sigh, finally getting these words off her chest as they’ve been haunting her as she watched the boy retreat within himself.

“Yunjin’s right,” Jeongin chimes in. “The happiest I ever see you is when you’re making music. You hate business, everyday that you spent cramming it I watch you lose yourself to the person everyone else wanted you to be. It is not selfish to be yourself Heeseung, it’s you that has made everyone in this room want to be here, not the image of you your dad had created.”

DING!

The boy’s phone went off, notifying that his favorite streamer had just gone live. Usually he would drop whatever he was doing to tune in but the shame of the past week still consumes him as his friends surround him.

Once again he feels the bed dip, this time he is met face to face with Yang Jungwon and the box of delicious bakery items. Something about the boy had always felt oddly familiar to Heeseung, as if he knew the boy from somewhere but could never figure out where.

“Name got a bunch of banana bread, something about how she knows you like it,” Jungwon says as he pushes the box towards Heeseung. He reluctantly puts the cat that was in his lap onto his bed to take the box into his lap, opening the lid to find several slices of banana bread and a note.

‘I hope these treats find you well Heeseung! Jungwon says you haven’t been feeling too great so I hope a treat from Kim’s will do the trick, I know it does for me. Also about that day, I hope you aren’t being too hard on yourself.. Take care of yourself, Artemis needs you -Name’

The note hit him like a brick, he had only ever been an ‘absolute asshole’ to the girl as Yunjin describes it. The boy couldn’t deny that fact, his envy feeding the undeniable hatred he had for the girl he found solace on that night nearly 3 years ago. He felt awful.

The boy crumpled the note up and threw it across the room, stuffing his face with a slice of bread before the tears threatening to pour out once again could escape his ducts. Swallowing the treat you had bought him, Heeseung was met with a new resolve, getting out of bed for the first time in over a week to get ready to go out.

You were currently streaming with Jay, you two were attempting the 100 baby challenge on the sims. You were in the middle of seducing yet another sim when there was a sudden and frantic knock on your door. Making eye contact with your friend, you both wore a confused look on your faces. Looking back at your monitor you can see your chat go wild at the sound of a possible guest at your door.

“I’ll be back chat, it seems someone’s at my door.” With that you take your leave, hoping Jay would keep things moving as to distract your chat from your absence. You make sure to close your bedroom door before heading over to the door, half expecting it to just be Jake or Sunghoon here to harass your cat. That expectation being shredded as you opened your door to an out of breath Lee Heeseung.

“Heeseung? What are you doing here,” you ask the boy in front of you as he is slumped over trying to catch breath.

To Be honest Heeseung didn’t know why he was here, when he read that note he felt like he needed to see you again. He wanted to tell you that he didn’t mean the words he said that day or for all the nasty glares he sent your way. Building up the courage to face you is much harder when you’re now standing right in front of him, his impulses once again leading to the strange encounters with you.

“I just wanted to tell you-“

The boy is caught off guard as he begins to speak, also cuing him to finally face you full. Though he didn’t expect to be met face to face with you and the presence of a man.

”Hmmm?” You encourage the boy to keep talking, not noticing his sudden panic at Jay’s sudden appearance. Jay stepping closer to you made the boy take a step away from you.

Heeseung couldn’t help but wonder who this guy is to you. He’s seen you out on campus with him before but why is he in your apartment? The older boy so lost in his thoughts was pulled back to reality by Jay clearing his throat, almost as to urge the boy to speak.

”Well… Name… I just wanted to say thank you, you know, for the baked goods and for Artemis.” Heeseung could only look down at his hands as he spoke, too embarrassed to face you and the unknown man behind you. Though he is taken off guard when he feels you grab his chin, making him look you in the eyes.

You don’t know what has gotten into you but the chance to see the boy’s doe eyes was enough courage for you to make a move. As his big doe eyes stare done at you, you ruffle his hair hoping to show the boy that you forgave him.

“I’m glad you enjoyed them, let me know if there's anything else you need from me. Feel free to drop Artemis back anytime just shoot me a text when you do as I am kinda busy right now.” You’re aware that now your viewers have been sitting without anyone entertaining them, as Jay had come out shortly after you had said the name ‘Heeseung.’

Heeseung not knowing you were referring to the chat that he was typically a part of, he assumed that you were busy with the man that stood at your backside. Confusion, disappointment, and heartbreak flooded his mind, why did he care so much about what you did or who you saw. Deciding to just blame it on the same envy that has fueled his hatred towards you, as he scratches the back of his neck.

“Well I guess I’ll get out of your hair then for now,” the boy says as he turns on his heels towards the elevator in your complex. Getting a few steps away before he feels a tug on his shirt, turning around to face you.

“Don’t be a stranger Heeseung, let's be friends!”

CHAPTER SEVENTEEN (written .9k)

DING! DING! DING!

You were awoken by the sound of your phone continuously going off, at first you ignored it - letting your fatigue carry you back to sleep. Though after feeling Jake shove you and Sunghoon burying his head further into your pillows to escape the noise, you finally decided to search for your phone. Reaching around the space around your pillows, you finally find the device that had disturbed your well needed beauty rest.

Oh how you wish you would’ve just stayed asleep, now finding yourself sat up straight running your hands through your hair as you read all the notifications. The two others in your bed now stirring as you begin to panic, unable to believe you had missed the stream you had promised to do. Sunghoon sat up first, rubbing your back as your breath began to become sporadic and tears welled up.

When did streaming begin to become the stress that you had first tried to escape through streaming?

“Hey what are you thinking right now,” Jake says as he hands you the bottle of water that was sitting on your bedside table. When you’re reluctant to drink, the boy opens it for you, ushering you to take at least a sip.

You didn’t have the courage to take a sip, nor to answer Jake’s question. Feelings of guilt, fear, and frustration racing through your mind. You felt silly for feeling all this over a single missed stream, it wasn’t even the first time you had missed a stream. Though suddenly you felt like everyone was watching for the downfall of Venus, the downfall of you.

You suddenly felt a small presence lick your hand, Artemis saying ‘take your time’ in his own way. Holding the small kitten up to your chest, feeling it purr against your skin. You take a deep breath, closing your eyes before you speak.

“I don’t think I can be Venus anymore.”

It was like a weight was lifted off your chest, the stress of managing these two sides of you being dispersed.

“You never were Venus, Venus is you,” the voice of none other than Park Jongseong rang out.

Looking up you’re met with the new guests in your apartment. Jay and Tsuki climb into your bed, whilst Ningning sets down a tub of ice cream on your bedside table. Tsuki rests her head on your shoulder, wrapping her arm around you.

“I remember when you first started streaming, you were so happy. I was so happy that more people got to see you be you. You’ve been running from yourself for so long.”

You can feel Tsuki’s voice vibrating through your body as she says the words you didn’t want to hear but needed to. Looking down at your lap in embarrassment, a sudden face was in front of you.

“When was the last time you genuinely enjoyed streaming or fashion,” Ningning questions as her head rests in your lap, her gaze piercing into you.

Truth is, you can’t remember. You hadn’t enjoyed anything since the start of this semester. You have felt the weight of your future crushing you, desperate to prove to the world you’re more than the name you were born with. Venus was the way you escaped that name, and now that so many are trying to take it away from you...

Jay was right, Venus is you, that’s why she exists. She wouldn’t exist without you, but as of recently she’s become more and more of what you believe you should be.

“I wanna keep streaming, it makes me happy, or at least it did. I just want to be myself, I just feel like everyone has the predetermined idea of me and I don’t want that to be Venus’ fate as well. Ever since the gossip page started harassing me, as Venus, about my identity I’ve had so many more eyes on me. I can deal with the eyes when I have my guard up, when I’m acting as [Name], but that’s not me. I wanna be silly, I wanna go on tangents about games fashion, and I want to be able to make connections without there being an agenda.”

“Then keep streaming, it's the minority of people trying to unmask you. Majority of your viewers are there because they genuinely love you. They won’t care when and if they find out that you are Venus,” Jay says as he pulls the comforter over his body, ready to go to sleep.

Despite the tears still staining your cheeks, you find yourself rolling your eyes at the eldest member of your group. You know what he says is true, though it's hard to believe when you’re so stuck in your own head. You let out a sigh, looking up at your friends that are now squishing you into your bed. A lopsided smile escapes your lips, you felt loved.

Jake and Sunghoon were devouring the ice cream that Ningning had bought, earning an earful from the girl as she braids Tsuki’s hair. Jay was already well on his way into dreamland, truly amazed by how the boy could sleep despite the chaos around him.

These were your people, you were so happy that at the end of the day it is them that you can rely on.
