I really like the collage image that you use. I can see some sense of humours on it. Also relating it with background is also great attempt and it really works well!

WEEK 11. ZINE DEVELOPMENT:
This week I started to develop the inside content of my zine with maintaining the theme of my front cover. With this design I included 2 of my own drawings that reflect the surreal style of Dali as well as Dali’s paintings. I decided to use the newspaper background as the border to complement the use of newspaper in the front and back cover.
I received feedback this week on the layout especially the use of imagery to represent the work of Salvador Dali. I will improve the zine by mainly displaying  the works of Salvador Dali and maybe even using a image of my own incorporated with Dali’s

Summary of the ‘Communication Design Studies’ course
Tumblr media
The 12-week Lecture covered the entire lesson learned this semester. This reminded me of what I had learned, and most of all, I am grateful for the Tumblr assignment that allowed me to record them. I was very sorry that I couldn't continue the face-to-face class because of the COVID-19. The Communication Design Studies course helped me understand the overall knowledge of Communication Design. Workshops, Lectures, and assignments stimulated my creativity. I had the experience of thinking out of the box, especially, the process of finding letterforms among the things around me, which was the first task, was interesting. This has changed my view of the world. I could broaden my design perspective. In fact, I didn't have much knowledge of design, however, I was able to see the overall historical flow of design through Lecture. Hence, ‘Online Reflective Journal’ was a useful task as I could objectively evaluate myself by writing my work process through Tumblr and expand the knowledge I learned in Lecture. The reason I was able to challenge the collage animation was that this class made me feel comfortable. The fact respecting my individuality made me love the design. It was fortunate that I could start the first semester of my university life with this course. I plan about my mid-break schedule to improve design knowledge by reading books and watching videos recommended by Karen.

Sarah Morris, a Contemporary American painter
Tumblr media
Sarah Morris was born in 1967 in the UK and lives and works in New York. Since the mid-1990s, artist Sarah Morris has produced a large body of abstract paintings and films, that explore the physicality and psychology of cities. Her works contain factors that complement and connect to one another, creating an endless back-and-forth play between the two. She describes them as “urban, social and bureaucratic typologies”.
Tumblr media
Their vivid colours and geometries seem to be inspired by each city's unique aesthetic feature and palette, as well as its character and multiple histories.
“She wants to be both author and protagonist, and to her that means using compromised personalities and places as portals into entanglements of power, generating a sense of dizzying simultaneity that she translates into motives and resources for her paintings and a flow of images for her films, all of which add up to topologies of a moment in the life of power and style.”

Progress of Project 3
Tumblr media Tumblr media
This week I worked on the final process of working on music and subtitles. The working time was longer than I thought as it's been a long time since I worked on the ‘Premiere’ program. What was most regrettable was that the subtitle feels a little faster as the running time has to be within three minutes and there's no voice recording attached. The final video will be uploaded on YouTube and additional references will be attached.

I can see more advanced layout configurations than last week. By lowering the opacity of some images they naturally permeated to the white background.

Basically, I re-did my zine again, the compositions, background images… I got the feedback that I could do the left justifying rather than the full-justifying one. And I am still working on my covers.

This part caught my eye the most in this lecture. I didn't know there were various Movie barcode works. With the addition of impressive videos, more diverse information can be obtained.
Week 11 Lecture - Moviebarcode&Metapolator
Tumblr media
This week’s lecture was really interesting. I learned a couple of things related to design.
Moviebarcode - every frame in a movie compressed into a line, giving an idea of the colour palette used by the filmmakers.
I think that by looking at the movie barcode, we can learn the main tone of the film (Especially Sin CIty’s movie barcode) and see each frame’s time…
I searched for some nice movie barcodes that I like:
@moviebarcode 👈 👍 🤗
This Star Wars movie barcode looks like the Morandi color, which is very popular recently.

It is impressive to have further investigated from a point of view I have not thought about. I really like the Glass printed sculpture by MIT Media Lab. If I look at it from a place without light, it's just a plain object, but it's beautiful to be reflected by the light.
Parametric Design
Week 11 \ Lecture: exploration
Talking about parametric and generative design has me thinking about my future jobs and the things I ought to (and want to) be learning. I could understand the use of generative design and think the things produced in this method is really cool but I need to know more about it.
A site that helped me best to understand the concept of parametric design (mostly in industrial design), was from a design studio Robazzo. Pictured is The Nobu Light designed by Robazzo. This light is so pleasing and makes me feel really relaxed.
Tumblr media
This quote from the page gave me insight as to why we would adopt this kind of design and the benefits of it.
“With computational design, we can explore so many creative possibilities—without exhausting resources.”
Parametric design can be used in so many fields: architecture, art, clothing, even jewellery! (pictured below). I recognise that it will be an integral part of the future of design and I am keen to learn more about it and how to use it in my time at RMIT.
Tumblr media
This topic also brings me back to someone I quite admire: Neri Oxman.
It’s funny because in this weeks Image and Identity specialist class: Image Media, Neri and the MIT Media Lab were mentioned as well which delightfully reminded me of her. I first came across Neri when watching the Netflix series “Abstract” and was instantly amazed by her, her knowledge and projects.
Tumblr media
The aspect of bio-architecture and striving for a more sustainable approach to living as human beings was what I am interested in. Neri is so intelligent and her passion for designing using principles of nature is what makes me admire her so much. She uses computational design and digital fabrication and applies it across disciplines: architecture, fashion and product design. She started off breaking the mould and I respect that she has the determination and passion to create such a change and pioneer “Material Ecology”. I intend to do more learning about what she has done/ is doing to give me direction on my own path.
Material Ecology: Considers computation, fabrication, and the material itself as inseparable dimensions of design. Products and buildings are biologically informed and digitally engineered by, with and for, Nature.
Included are examples of her using applied parametric design.

The realisation that there is a whole world dedicated to generative/parametric/computational design, with people like Neri trying to connect it to nature to benefit the world has lit a fire in me, perhaps one that will guide me to my own career. I can connect this to my Image and Identity project on sustainable fashion and what I’ve learnt researching that, where the fashion industry is the fasting growing category of waste and second to the oil industry in pollution. There is a gold mine here that I want to explore now.

Progress_Ask Me Anything
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
After receiving the feedback last week, I add the scene which displays Andy Warhol's works. This brief requires to make five questions. However, my two questions are related to each other, hence I chose one more question. This question will be put before the last one.
S. As you are famous, there are many criticisms about your work. What do you think about your work that leads people to overspend and materialism?
A.That's ridiculous. This era itself is already full of consumerism and materialism. Don't pass the buck to me. I just visualised this era as an art. Art should be equally served, as both rich and poor drink the same coke.Anyway, whatever anyone else says has no value to me concerning my work. I don’t need approval. I have confidence in what I’m doing.
Tumblr media
This is the title scene using the collage technique. The title is WHAT'S IN ANDY'S BOX? I chose this as his time capsule box is the main stage of the film. The highly unique mood was represented by using collage. The running time of animation will be approximately three minutes.

The Colors Magazine
Tumblr media
The ‘Colors’ magazine was established in 1991 by Oliviero Toscani and Tibor Kalman and funded by high-street fashion store Benetton.  Their main motto is that diversity is positive, and all cultures have equal value. Therefore, its topics are ranging from the social issues, such as environmental issues, disputes around the world, or the AIDS, to lighter themes like shopping, fashion, toys and collectors –with a critical perspective. Creating a strong, crisp visual style, which is shocking to the public, makes them aware of specific issues seriously.
Tumblr media
The most interesting image of ‘Colors’ magazine was the ‘Black Queen Elizabeth’. As you can see, the ethnicity of the Queen completely has changed. It gave me a fresh shock. Others would feel the same way as me. It completely changed the typical image of the Queen so far and also broke my prejudice. Especially, the question 'What if?' made me consider more about the issue of racism.

The Futurist Cookbook
Tumblr media
In 1932, Filippo Tommaso Marinetti, the Italian poet and editor, published ‘The Futurist Cookbook’. This book became a huge sensation at that time. In the introduction to the 1989 edition, British journalist, historian and travel writer Lesley Chamberlain calls it “a provocative work of art disguised as an easy-to-read cookbook”.
What made this cookbook so revolutionary was that it illustrates on food as a raw material for art and cultural expository. Besides, it reflects the Futurist idea that the presence of art in daily life gained and liberated from human experience. In fact, Marinetti regards food as the optimistic supreme promise. He insisted that “men think, dream and act according to what they eat and drink.”
These are the outlines of the 11 requirements for the ideal Futurist meal: One perfect meal requires:
1.   Originality and harmony in the table setting (crystal, china, décor) extending to the flavours and colours of the foods. 2.   Absolute originality in the food. 3.   The invention of appetising food sculptures, whose original harmony of form and colour feeds the eyes and excites the imagination before it tempts the lips. 4.   The abolition of the knife and fork for eating food sculptures, which can give preludial tactile pleasure. 5.   The use of the art of perfumes to enhance tasting. Every dish must be preceded by a perfume which will be driven from the table with the help of electric fans. 6.   The use of music limited to the intervals between courses so as not to distract the sensitivity of the tongue and palate but to help annul the last taste enjoyed by re-establishing gustatory virginity. 7.   The abolition of speech-making and politics at the table. 8.   The use in prescribed doses of poetry and music as surprise ingredients to accentuate the flavours of a given dish with their sensual intensity. 9.   The rapid presentation, between courses, under the eyes and nostrils of the guests, of some dishes they will eat and others they will not, to increase their curiosity, surprise and imagination. 10.  The creation of simultaneous and changing canapés which contain ten, twenty flavours to be tasted in a few seconds. 11.  A battery of scientific instruments in the kitchen

I can see the poster that breaks all the traditional rules of composition. The letterforms are freely arranged, and its form is highly dynamic. It seems like letters are making sounds.

It is a work that I came to recognise through lecture. The whole wall is filled with letters. It's neat and easy to read. I haven't been very motivated lately, so I should put this phrase on the wall of my room. These are phrases applicable to anyone. I especially like the last part ‘Smile’. I hope I finish this semester with a smile whenever I have a hard time.

Activity: Making Booklet
Tumblr media
In this activity, I learned about the principles and how to make booklets. It was interesting as it was manual work such as cutting and drawing using paper. Among them, it was beneficial to learn more about the importance of trim. If I unfold the paper and draw a flower-shaped or line in the middle, I can see how it is shown in the booklet. We were divided into teams and gave feedback to each other about the final project objectively.
Tumblr media
Although there was no direct need to learn about making magazines as I’m working on the animation format, I worked out a rough layout of a zine. Through this activity, I learned how difficult it is to make a booklet. Karen said that she always uses this method before starting to make art-books. Hence, I hope I also have a chance to use it for my next project.

Week 11: What’s Next for Design?
Tumblr media
Various technology has been developed in modern times: The Fourth Industry. Many of us must have heard a lot about VR, 3D Printing, AI and so on. I learned a variety of design techniques in this lecture, titled "What's Next for Design?". There is something in the design that helps mankind, like the ‘Eye-writer’. The most striking design work for me was the ‘Movie Barcodes’. This is a barcode made from the average screen colour of each frame, and it gives me a fresh shock. Moving to the "Generative Design" section arouses a question. Of course, as technology evolves, humans become more convenient. The same is true of design. However, is there only the advantage of reliance on artificial intelligence? It feels like just pursuing convenience will make creativity disappear, or robots will take people's jobs. Although experts predict that art-related occupations will not vanish, in my opinion, all occupations except those in the IT industry will disappear. In this reality, how should we respond? The answer is " developing discernment." For instance, a knife can be used for cooking, but it can be used for killing people. Therefore, as a designer in the fourth industrial era, technology should be used appropriately.
