I hate that planned obsolescence is starting to reach fandoms. I hate that fandoms are starting to die after two, three years, I hate that whenever you stop getting content that means the fandom will die and be gone.
I need people to stop trying to brush off old interests as being 'cringe' as soon as you lose interest, or worse: make it seem like it's imoral to like something that they themselves held so dear before.
Fandoms are meant to last for years and years, the moment content stops being created is the moment we truly thrive because we keep creating the content ourselves the way we love it and expand on the things that are already there for us.
I don't care if you lost interest on something, it's fine and normal even, but stop trying to blame and make fun of people who still do love the fandom and the content and the things we can create.
I need people to enjoy fandom again

Phil!!
Tumblr media
"He was a little shorter, with shoulder-length blond hair, piercing, ice-blue eyes, and fair skin. Faint scars decorates the man's cheeks and neck, breaking up the line of stubble along his chin, and bandages peeked out from under his shirt - souvenirs from a previous job, most likely."

made a d&g techno
Tumblr media
"Strands of pink hair fell loosely into Techno's face, the majority of it swept back into a thick braid. Techno's eyes were as red as blood, but they were soft at the edges and observed the river passively. Faint scars lined fair skin, and what seemed like tusks protruded slightly from Techno's bottom lip."

Honestly like one thing dsmp season 2 did so fucking well was the IMAGERY... Like the floating lanterns in NLM, the deterioration of cTommy's Minecraft skin, the compasses that would actually POINT to where the other was, cRanboo's obsidian panic room (despite how you may feel abt him it was kind of iconic), c!Technoblade's lone cabin in the snow as a safe haven, The wither skulls/hidden wall reveal during "Welcome Home Theseus, c!Tommy's completely empty beach party with a cake he can't finish by himself, the obsidian grid in the sky and the TNT dropped DIRECTLY on the bee apiary, the fight in the flooded rubble of the community house, and none of this is to even mention all of the disc finale imagery (the mountain, the VAULT, the bench at the end !!!) Like... It's MINECRAFT but the visuals that season were so strong <3

so yeah. if there are any serious discussions about this that are more coherent/better researched then my ramblings let me know. i do want to talk about it
have there been any serious discussions of the way both the dsmp and the fandom kinda came out of nowhere, took over everything and then ate itself and became completely irrelevant all over the span of like 2 and a half years. and now both content and fandom, as far as i can tell, are basically destroyed and unable to be preserved in any meaningful way. cuz i kinda want to talk about it

but it still makes me kinda sad. there's so much amazing art work and videos and animations that are (most likely) never going to get discovered by anyone new. cause the everything just imploded. and i know that there are things like smaller fandoms where some people just keep on making their art and fics and stuff regardless, maybe that's what dsmp is now? i don't know it's been a long time since i've be active. but that still feels different from having the biggest fandom around completely vanish over two years and leave so much lost media in it's wake

anyways. i get why it happened, the pandemic was really the reason so so many people had time to watch multiple hour long livestreams weekly, lore and mcc and in person stuff, and i don't think that kind of long form content really had any chance of staying so popular when there's not lockdowns and people being at home all the time.
and then so many people leaving the fandom with all the dream shit, (which was a point from the very beginning, i saw a post in 2020 i think with somebody predicting that dream would be a problem and creators would distance themselves, and saw people leaving the fandom bc of him shortly after that, like from early 2021 on) techo's death, end of the server, etc. it was never gonna last forever

and the fandom. was so fucking huge. like top tags in the tumblr fandom recap for a long time, for what it's worth. like this quote from the 2021 tumblr year in review: The Dream SMP Minecraft Server and its content creators make up a full 33.333333% of this year’s Top Things. This should come as no surprise to anyone who’s been reading our weekly Fandometrics lists. DSMP was the number one thing on tumblr in 2021. number one! there were seven related mcyt things in the 2021 top list.
and in the 2023 recap? nothing. not a single mention. it's just gone. not even to mention things like heat waves, which was the first huge thing to come out of the fandom being deleted, etc.

like idk. just the nature of having (almost) all of the dsmp be live streams kinda meant it was going to be inaccessible past a certain point from the very beginning. and i can only imagine more and more of it will be lost over time as archive accounts and channels get deleted or taken down. so there was really never any interest in going back and watching old stuff, like even with the third arc or whatever i saw people coming in going "i'm new where do i start with all this fucking lore" and being told "you can't, there's too much, it doesn't make sense." which is. yeah. just so much decay man

EVERY SINGLE DAY there are MILLIONS of characters in their late 20s who get falsely accused of being father figures to teenagers when in reality the description of "weird older cousin" or "step-sibling that moved out before you were born" is 1000000x more apt a description
