Imagine Sportacus seeing Robbie in one of his disguises and waving as he calls, “Hi Robbie!” A moment later, after realising what he’s just done, Sportacus goes bright red and says, “Sorry, I meant; who are you?” That’s the moment when Robbie finally realises Sportacus has always been able to see through his disguises.
The kids get a pass for not recognising Robbie because they are children. My brother didn’t recognise our dad when he was Father Christmas at his school fair. Bessie Busybody and Mayor Meanswell are just the dumbest and will believe anything they are told so Robbie is able to fool them.
However, it’s obvious that Sportacus always knows it’s Robbie. Sometimes he shakes his head in annoyed disappointment like, “Really Robbie? Pretending to be a doctor is a low even for you.” Other times he smiles knowingly and just lets things play out like when he was ‘arrested’ for stealing a cake and Robbie needed to be remined to lock the cage door.
Robbie seems happier when he’s doing one of his schemes and Sportacus doesn’t want to ruin his fun. It also gives the children a chance to work out what is happening and save the day.
For those who don’t know; Stefan Karl, the actor who played Robbie, is reserving treatment for pancreatic cancer. There is a GoFundMe page here to help play his medical bills.
I always saw that for Stephanie Sportacus is a parental figure and an example of being strong, and he is raising a strong and very tough girl, I love them
