Argul sat down once the flame was large enough and glad that Ranger seemed to be calming down. He started making some random sounds, but Argul didn’t think much of it. With such a chimera of a creature, Argul wouldn’t be surprised if it started spouting fire or grow another animal part.
Then it made a particular sound. One that could make him some money. “Ranger, say it again.” The animal’s hearing was probably better than his, but if he could focus it, Argul’s was decent too. Even without Ranger, he heard it now. The silence and stillness of the forest practically amplified it now that Argul wasn’t making any noise.
“Stay here, Ranger,” he ordered before suddenly jetting off toward the sound. The snow was no match for him if he didn’t have to worry about making a path for the creature. Running water was heard. Argul stopped as soon as he saw the stream that was still flowing despite it being winter. All because of the mysterious Nirnroot that was glowing and ringing as if a beacon in the snowy forest. “What a good find,” he muttered.
Not one to follow instructions too closely, Ranger was quick to trail behind Argul.... although at a much slower pace than the man, since Ranger found himself once again squaring off against the drifts of snow. The creature emitted a strange sort of clackety growl, as if vocalizing alone could move the snow out of his path. But Ranger did slowly catch up with Argul, looking-- if anything-- more drenched for his journey.

Hey, if nothing else it’d make Quartz laugh. Not sure if you want that though.
Quartz glanced back at them, brow raised. Well, that was fair she supposed, if not a little… weird? She vaguely wondered if they at least had like, a wallet on them or something. Or money. However they carried it. Not that she was a pickpocket, but.
“There’s a few. There’s a handful of good restaurants,” that she couldn’t afford right now between Eiylsweir’s eating and demand for attention, “uhh, some really fascinating odds and ends shops, a few underground curiosity shops if you know where to look… and I think so,” she thought for a moment. “There’s at least one towards the end. Might be more, I honestly haven’t looked a ton.” She didn’t have tea that often. Didn’t hate it, but it was never something she had in her house.
“Underground, you say?” Fumetto’s border turned into a conspiratorial dashed-line, with the text shrinking slightly so as to be less visible from further away.
Visions of all sorts of esoteric paraphenalia-- / ✨ / 🌙  / ☠️ / 🔮 / 📿 / ⚔ / 🛡 / 🗝 / 🎐 / 🖋 / 🔍 / ⚜ / 🦄  / 🕸  / ♕ / ♔ / --flitted across Fumetto’s bubble, almost as fast as the eye could register them. Then a vignette of a little comic-style person opening a book and coughing violently at all the dust came and went. Curiosity clearly piqued. “Perhaps tea can wait. That sounds much more interesting.”

Argul could hear Ranger behind him, as those claws would still crunch pieces of snow or debris left behind the orc. It took only a few minutes longer until they arrived at Argul’s camp. It was cleared of snow earlier, but a small blanket of frost had overtaken much of the area, ready to overtake it in the orc’s absence. The tent was still up, so Argul reached in and pulled one of the fur blankets he made himself and presented it to Ranger.
“I’m going to put this on you so you can conserve your body heat, Ranger.” It wouldn’t completely cover the cat-bird, but it would at least help a little bit until Argul could get a fire started. He gently placed it on top of Ranger and moved on to clear out a space close to the tent for him to make a fire. He kept a pile of sticks in his tent as well for kindling and stuck a few against his sword of flames, which worked of course. He nursed the flame until it was large enough to produce enough heat for the two.
Ranger listened attentively to Argul’s words. Then it was time for inspecting the new Thing that was on his form, and his head craned around nearly 100 degrees to look at it in all angles.
After a moment’s staring at the fur, Ranger apparently decided it was not a threat. He began trotting around after Argul, eyeing what the man was up to. (The blanket shifted and lolled to one side, but somehow stayed atop the bird-cat.) As Argul tended to the fire, Ranger took up a halting path around it-- stopping every few feet to listen to sounds that perhaps were not really there.
After a few minutes of this, however, Ranger seemed to calm down somewhat, and settled down beside the fire. He began chittering to himself, as if mumbling something... but there were no real words to be had; only snippets of interesting sounds. One particular noise seemed of interest: a ringing, resounding sort of tone. He didn’t quite have it yet-- his rendition was far more of a “woooeee”, but it was nonetheless recognizable.

Quartz would probably ignite if they had said that, because gods knew she had no idea how to handle a compliment. Also a feeling of dread because she has no idea if those words project on the back of Fumetto’s head and, if they did, if Eiylsweir would have seen them.
Fumetto huh? Quartz tried to keep a straight face during the handshake. Fumetto was uh.. certainly interesting. Quartz was getting very curious about what exactly they were, but that was usually a rude question so she certainly wouldn’t just throw it out there.
While Fumetto fixed their glove, Quartz glanced back in the direction Eiylsweir had been. The ungod was still where he had been, just now a full story or so up on the side of the wall, like some sort of unsettling gecko. Unhappy, no doubt, if he was acting like that. A snide smirk came to Quartz’s face for a moment, before fading as Fumetto spoke again.
“Oh, well. I’m not doing anything today, so I wouldn’t mind showing you around. There’s a lot to see and do out here, especially where all the shops are,” she said, motioning down the street before turning to start walking. “Keep an eye on your pockets if you have anything important in em. There’s a lot of pickpockets in the more crowded place waiting for people like you,” she mused, throwing a glance over her shoulder at Eiylsweir. The beast had ducked into a shadow, but was clearly following. If Fumetto wasn’t looking at her hands, she’d carefully flip the monster off behind her back.
Fumetto was not watching too carefully, focusing instead on the very important task of not tripping over their own feet. That would definitely not be suave.
“Thank you for the warning! I don’t believe I’m carrying much of import to me. I leave most everything at home if I don’t have a reason to believe I’ll need it.” Of course, this strategy is much more useful when ‘home’ is the nearest doorway away... but Fumetto doesn’t often have cause to remember that such a habit is odd in any way.
“Any shops in particular that you are fond of? Or... any decent tea suppliers?” The shop was running low on some of the less exotic stock. May as well take the opportunity to scout for places to purchase from, though that clearly was not the main objective of the afternoon.

moon-and-satellite:
Quartz held a steady face at the sudden static, avoiding pursing her lips in concern. Interesting. She’d seen a lot in her life, but this new person was certainly not like anyone she’d met or heard of before.
The woman did raise a brow at Fumetto’s explanation. Well, that wasn’t that surprising. Though she didn’t agree with just wandering around in a town you weren’t familiar with if you were looking for someone.
Quartz looked Fumetto up and down again, before giving the odd individual a half smile. “I can show you around if you want, I guess. I’m not really in any hurry so…” she trailed off for a moment, before holding out a hand. “My name is Quartz.”
If nothing else, it would give her something to do… and maybe, in a petty way, would bother Eiylsweir. If he wasn’t going to spend time with her, she’d just spend time with someone else! Even if it was a stranger with a speech bubble for a head. At least the speech bubble hadn’t split in half to reveal rows upon rows of teeth.
Fumetto would be lying if they wrote that such a lovely smile didn’t give them a pleasant feeling in the pit of their stomach. Luckily, that was not the topic of conversation.
“Thank you very much, Quartz. You can call me Fumetto.” They took the proffered hand, trying to match her pressure. The only other bit of note about the handshake would be that the hand… squished in unusual ways. It felt more like jello in the shape of a hand than an actual flesh-and-bones hand.
Upon reclaiming their hand, Fumetto adjusted the gloves to make sure the fit was correct, and a few periods filled in the space of the head as they thought. “…Well, the folks I was waiting for might not be there anymore, but it would be lovely to learn a little bit more about the place. Knowing the area never hurts, especially since I’ll be around for a while.” Fumetto’s bubble softened a bit around the edges. “Anything of note in this part of town I should learn of?”

moon-and-satellite:
Quartz had food to get, maybe a few other groceries from the market… While Eiylsweir didn’t need to eat, the creature was rather gluttonous at times and ate far more then his fair share. She was thankful that he at least was thoughtful enough to lend her valuables, or she’d be out of house and home with his demands.
She shifted a hand up to scratch at the back of her head, letting out a sigh. Eiylsweir hadn’t been in a good mood either when she left; in fact, it had been a nightmare to try to leave at all. Escaping a being that was currently twice as big as you was… difficult. Quartz was thankful she was limber and quick, so the half-asleep god had a chance of letting her slip by.
Quartz turned her head to glance around for the odd being when someone tapped on her shoulder. She turned more, before jumping in surprise at… what was it that was behind her? She stared at Fumetto with wide eyes, a little… baffled by their…head…? Quickly though, she collected herself before her staring got too rude or uncomfortable.
“Oh, uh-” she glanced Fumetto over. Very interesting clothing, that was for certain. “You’re on the big Market Street. The one that runs the length of the city. Is there somewhere you need to be going?” She questioned, her gold gaze shifting just to the right of Fumetto’s shoulder. Somewhere back there, in a patch of shadow that was only ever so slightly distorted, Eiylsweir was lurking. Watching, of course. She tried not to make a face at him, and shifted her gaze back to the words dancing in the stranger’s… head?
The words became the slightest bit staticky as Fumetto froze. Just a fraction of a second, but it was there. Oh, they thought. So that’s why Millie had… They shook their head slightly, text fading off as if on an Etch-a-sketch.
New thoughts were soon to follow, accompanied by somewhat stiff gesticulation. “Well, ah, I’m new to the--” wait, how big was this place? Skyline is decently populated, but... “area, and I was supposed to be visiting some acquaintances. We were going to meet up, but I got antsy waiting and decided to see if I could find them.” Not... technically a lie.
They scratched the back of their neck, taking the movement to glance down the street. A decent day for a meet-up. A plausible thing to be doing.
“But instead I’ve found myself wandering. I’m afraid I don’t even know the way back to where we were supposed to meet. Though... someplace west of Market street, I’m fairly certain.” The thought was punctuated with a large '✔️', one hand on the hip, and one hand thoughtfully tapping against the bottom of Fumetto’s ‘head’.

A few doors behind Quartz, a curious figure tentatively emerged onto the street. Their head– if you can call it that– angled around until it oriented towards the slouching woman.
Fumetto couldn’t quite place why they felt a connection to this person. Clearly, there was some reason why Millie had sent Fumetto here; capricious though the door sometimes seemed, she was a mastermind in her own right.
No, there definitely was a reason. But Millie had been cryptic and feigned urgency – because a time-travelling door apparently has a deadline, thought Fumetto– so they had played along. Something about a nice outfit, too. So on went the pinstriped dress shirt and the floral-embroidered vest, with breeches and boots to match the bowtie and silk gloves. (To be honest, Fumetto had been doing a great deal of cleaning prior to this, so dressing up was a nice change of pace.)
In any event, Millie’s judgement was fairly trustworthy. So without hesitation, Fumetto jogged to catch up with Quartz, lightly tapping her on the shoulder. “Um, please excuse me,” they wrote, face expanding slightly to hold the forthcoming words (until the woman had clearly seen them). “I seem to have gotten lost– you wouldn’t happen to know where we are, would you?”
A handful of years back, Quartz wouldn’t have thought she’d be having legitimate relationship problems. Then again, she wouldn’t have thought she’d be in a actual relationship, let alone with… well, whatever it was she was ‘dating’ now.
The woman strolled down the street, hands shoved deep into her pockets as she muttered to herself. The are was chilly, but not too cold; the perfect sort of day that, in Quartz’s mind, warranted a visit to a restaurant or something similar. Good date weather for something cute. Now, of course, Eiylsweir was denser then a iron wall and had absolutely no concept of actual courting and being in a regular relationship.
She slouched forward a bit, cursing under her breath. No doubt he was lurking nearby in the shadows, like he usually was, but that would be the most he’d do. She’d just have to continue on her day like he wasn’t there, which he might as well not have been.

strikingindie:
Argul saw Ranger much closer now that the creature wasn’t trying to be all threatening. It was quite pathetic looking to say the least. The orc stood up and stepped in front of the creature. Then he started breaking the snow and creating a path for Ranger to follow. “Come on,” he said, hoping the creature would be behind. The small camp would be nearby and a fire could be started while drying off Ranger.
Ranger tentatively tried to follow, wings outstretched for balance. On discovering that the path Argul made was significantly less likely to trap Ranger face-deep in snow, he began trotting after Argul. Ranger tucked his wings neatly onto his back, and he chirruped sweetly at his newfound friend.
Every few meters or so, Ranger would stop and swivel to focus on some sound he’d picked up on. After a few seconds of silence, he’d turn back and skip to catch up with Argul.
