❝ i didn’t actually think it was yours ! ❞ max was astonished, but also amazed at misty. ❝ i mean, i’m totally one to advocate for no bras — hell, i rarely wear them myself — but, ❞ she couldn’t stop laughing then, blame it on the booze or the company. ❝ i’m going to remember this forever. ❞
" you asked! " misty replies, though she knows that there's no use. she probably shouldn't have claimed the bra was hers, but underwear's expensive, okay? she couldn't afford to lose a bra, especially at a reefer rick party. " it just got way too hot here way too quickly! and you know how freeing going braless is! "

“ what’s up, dude !! ” he greeted back, looking over his shoulder at the other. argyle sort of recognized them as someone who had come to the arcade around a handful of times. not a friend, but definitely a familiar face. “ you’ve come to the right person, my dude !! do i have some or i do have some ? ” he sing songed, reaching into his shirt pocket to pull it out.
a massive grin begins to appear on their face when they realize who exactly they happened to throw their arm around. argyle – that's his name, right? mike and max's co-worker at the palace arcade that misty kind of figured wasnt a hundred percent sober most of the time – was exactly the person she wanted to see. " and you are an absolute lifesaver... dude, " she adds the last word in just a dad bit awkwardly, though is still all smiles nonetheless.

to say gareth was also a few sheets to the wind, would be an understatement. he’d been waiting for the right moment to be an idiot and this was his time. walking randomly through the crowd, gareth nearly stumbled when someone wrapped themselves around him. “hey, a new friend! what’s up?” he slurred out, grinning widely. his best judgement told him to help her stand up straight, politely holding by her ribcage. “oh man, mary? mary is my good friend. she’s so cool. wait, let me look.” gareth held up a finger, digging around his pocket for his ‘friend’. “are you sure you want some? because if we share, we have to be best friends after.”
a squeal escapes misty's lips as the other person mentioned that he did, in fact, have the marijuana. " yes, mary! my new best friend mary– " they manage to garble out. a more sober misty would probably hide their face in embarrassment by the way they were excitedly bouncing on the balls of their feet– but a drunk misty? absolutely shameless. " i'll obviously be your friend, everyone always says to smoke with a friend. and i'll be smoking with you. ergo, new best friend! "

the second the arm came around his shoulders steve could feel himself frowning and his lip curling in slight annoyance as he looked at misty. “where can one acquire some personal space?” steve shot back in a slightly irritated voice. it was supposed to be a good night and a time to relax but it was the complete opposite so far. one fight down the hole and only time would tell what was to come. “i don’t think you even need it at this point.”
with a sigh, misty pushes herself off, a frown already forming on her face. " geez, man, it's a party, what's gotten you all pissy? " she retorts, before rolling her eyes at the other's comment. " i'm perfectly fine, okay, sober– any word you need! " seriously, what was this guy's problem? misty recognizes him vaguely from the few times they've stopped at family video, though she can't pinpoint a name. " is it 'cause you can't find good enough weed? because, my guy, that's exactly what i'm looking for. unless you're, like, an undercover cop or whatever, then you didn't hear me looking for anything. 𓆙 … upsidedownism !
mike didn’t know the street slang, he was simply guessing. it had been a long time since mike had felt like the age he was supposed to be. and it had been an even longer time since he felt at the age he was meant to be with misty. at this point in both of their lives, they were meant to graduate from MIT with their degrees but that hadn’t happened yet. and never would considering they both stayed. “shut the fuck up.” he says, using their hand to back their face away lovingly with the roll of the eyes. “i would fucking hope so.” while he had the party he also always had misty, they might not have understood what mike was going through all those years, but he knew that he could always depend on her. “alright,” he says, grabbing the lighter that he had stolen from someone lighting it and then taking a long drag before handing it to the other. “inhale once and then again for as long as you can before exhaling it.”
" i know, i know, i'm not thirteen, wheeler. " they say, waving away the smoke with their hand, an eager smile on misty's face. it was a relief, really, to see mike at the party, to see someone familiar, even if they didn't show it as much. misty had a habit of doing that, burying anything that required a deeper emotion than sad or angry underneath a heedless facade, like how they should have probably processed their withdrawals from MIT properly, but instead misty suggested they drink their worries away, because why face your problems when alcohol was an option? and at reefer rick's party, misty was full of alcohol, though thankfully just slightly sober enough to take a deep inhale from the joint, feeling the smoke in her lungs, before slowly exhaling, only coughing slightly at that. " shit, mike, where'd you even get this? "

“you are a fucking idiot.” he says this endearingly, trying to get into a position to hold them up right. “no one says the marijuana what are you a newb?” he teases before rolling his eyes. he had scored a joint and had kept it in his pocket to enjoy somewhere more quiet but it seemed that misty was goddamn intent on smoking it so who was mike to deny one of his closest friends? “i’ll share this with you, i guess.”
misty stuck their tongue out at mike like a little kid, though was grateful for having someone to help hold her up for a while– seriously, how many drinks did she have in her system? " haha okay, mikey-mike, we get it, you're the cool guy who knows street slang, " she responded, her voice monotone, though there was a complete shift in their behavior once mike brought out the joint. " and this, is why you're, like, in my top five friends, wheeler! you got a light? "

picking up a random bra off the floor, max can only look at it with disgust. ❝ don’t tell me this shit is yours ? ❞
misty's eyes widened, and she almost spat out her drink, " jeez, max! way to embarrass a fella! " she said, grabbing the bra from max's hand and stuffing it into the small bag she carried around. " what? i'm not putting it back on again. "

@mollyshayes / location → downtown hawkins, late evening.
the sun setting just a little above the buildings of downtown hawkins was a good indicator that it was time to close up shop for the night, and misty set about to do their usual closing routine, locking up the displays and the front door. unfortunately for her, the apartment she rented on the floor above didn't connect directly to the store, which is why she was currently pulling down on the grate to finish up the last of her routine, which was easier said than done considering how she wasn't really equipped to do the task height-wise.
sensing someone approaching, she grabbed onto the bottom of the grate, slamming it down and looping the lock around it. " sorry, bud, all the stores 'round here have closed for the night. why, you need something? "

@upsidedownism / location → milton's electronics.
it was a slow day at milton's, as it usually is, and misty was in their usual position when the days dragged on, sitting on the floor behind the counter, tinkering around with the latest products that came in with last week's shipment-- it was pretty boring, just casio's new calculator model, but that didn't deter them from messing with it. to combat the summer heat, she had a fan propped up on a chair, pointing downwards.
the familiar ring of a bell echoed across the room, indicating a new customer coming in. " welcome to milton's electronics! i'll be with you in a sec-- " misty called out as they hastily stood up, though paused upon seeing who just entered, a smile forming on their face, " mike! you here for the latest atari age?? it's a dollar and fifty, gotta keep up with inflation or whatever, " she said, gesturing to the stack of magazines on the counter.

𓆙 … shmackin !
it had been an extremely slow day at the palace arcade. argyle could count on one hand how many people had actually walked in and out since they’d been open. he wasn’t due for a break for another hour and had already put all his pocket change into the frogger and ms pacman machines. sitting down behind the desk, he pulled out his yo-yo before nearling whacking himself in the head when he heard the bell chime.
“ welcome to the palace arcade, dude !! ” he greeted, waving at them ( and nearly whacking himself in the head for a second time ) setting the yo-yo down behind the counter, he smiled at the customer. “ hey, dude can i ask you something ? ” he started, looking them over with drooped lids. “ isn’t it crazy that we put frozen water into water to make our beverages colder ? like, who was the dude that thought of such a righteous trick to cooling our drinks ? ” he rambled, pausing only when the landline next to him started ringing …. bringing him out of his trance. “ anyways, can i get you some tokens, my dude ?
misty didn't quite know when exactly going to the palace arcade became second nature to them, though if you had to force them to cough up an answer, they'd probably say it was shortly after they backed out of the mit scholarship. still, on most days, especially when milton's was slow and it was more budget-friendly to close early rather than keep it open ‘til closing time, she found herself walking a few blocks down to the arcade.
upon entering, misty was greeted by the the usual sounds of the the arcade games, alongside the particular smell that came with housing its specific demographic. whatever, she's gotten used to it at the point, making a beeline to the counter. " yeah, but it'll eventually water down your drinks, though i guess that's part of the experience, " they pointed out, dropping three dollars onto the counter, " just that for me, i'm just trying to see if i can beat my high score on ms. pac -man. 𓆙 … 87survives !
open starter —— anyone !!
location —— outside the mall !!
matilda’s sitting outside the mall. it’s her lunch break, thirty minutes that she both cherishes and dreads every day — but she only dreads it because the half hour always seems to fly by way too quickly. during her first week at jcpenney, she found a secluded little bench under some trees near the backside of the building that nobody ever seemed to be sitting at, and that’s where she always eats lunch now.
it’s been an… interesting day. to say the least. she’s been yelled at by three customers. her parents were due for a visit that they just cancelled last night. and now the bullshit about the guy who went missing is making everyone in this shitty little town act even more fucked up than usual. she's so lost in her thoughts and the duty of picking the crusts off of her ham and cheese sandwich that she almost doesn’t hear the footsteps approaching. she glances, but the sun is so bright she has to squint to try and make out the face. she offers a friendly smile and a small wave. “ um, hi… “ she looks pointedly down at the rest of the bench, which is covered by her purse and lunch bag and two water bottles. “ sorry. would you like to sit ? “
the mall was possibly misty's least favorite place in hawkins, which wasn't a large feat since they didn't really like a lot of places in hawkins, though this one was personal. starcourt was one of the bigger reasons why their step-dad's store almost went under, with all its shiny signs and franchise stores. still, misty had to admit that the mall also had some stores which sold things not commonly seen around hawkins. claire's, for example, because for some reason it has every kid under the age of ten obsessed with its products, misty's sister included, and sissy's birthday was coming up–
which is how she finds herself in the back area of the mall, a claire's bag in her hand, wandering aimlessly. she was lost, period, and admitting defeat, began to make their way to the nearest person, who was luckily sitting on a nearby bench. " actually, yeah, my feet are killing me. i've been trying to find a way out of that place for the past ten minutes and when i actually find an exit, it's the wrong one. may i? " she asked, gesturing to the other side of the bench.

𓆙 … garethsgreat !
location: family video
the issue with gareth’s brain was that once he got something stuck in it, there was no getting it out until he found a way to compartmentalize it somehow. he needed an answer or a reason or at least a good theory – which was why he was now darting in between the aisles of family video. with the library still being rebuilt, this was his next best bet.
and yeah, gareth knew he probably looked a little nuts. one of the hellfire kids muttering about sludge under his breath while he tried to find a copy of ‘the thing’. it was the picture of being a few scooby snacks short of the whole bag but who was really paying attention to gareth anyway? not that many people, that’s for sure.
he had a copy of ‘ghostbusters’ already tucked under one arm while he talked out loud to himself, almost bumping into someone as he searched. “shit, sorry.” he apologized, stepping around them. “you don’t know any good movies about ghosts, do you?”
as much as misty would like to say that they're independent, the weekly friday movie nights at the milton house was something she always looked forward to. it reminded her of old times, curled up on the sofa besides her mom, with no worries about a mall fire or an earthquake or another kid going missing. perhaps it was for that reason that misty clung to it so dearly, especially with the new information coming out about christopher nash's disappearance, and why she was browsing the aisles of family video trying to find a family-friendly, yet entertaining, movie to appease everyone in the family, including her kid sister.
they were in one of the aisles, deciding between annie or the dark crystal, trying to ignore the subtle sound of someone muttering about something, growing louder and louder. she turned to him to shoot him a dirty look, but then he started talking. ghost movies? " uh, nightmare on elm street, if that counts? " was freddy krueger even considered a ghost? misty wouldn't know, but it was a scary movie nevertheless.
