I want to take a moment to talk about something I noticed when I was watching the latest Bobs Burgers episode The Amazing Rudy.
Several scenes are designed to mirror an earlier scene. I'll go through a few here.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
At breakfast Rudy eats scrambled eggs. A dish composed of one ingredient that has a very messy look.
At the Belcher's he has the lasagna that, despite having far too many ingredients, has a much more defined structure.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
His dad discusses the upcoming dinner with Rudy with the camera placed behind glass.
Gene discusses the upcoming dinner with Rudy, again the camera is again placed behind glass.

Rudy and his dad go to a store to return something. The store is very tidy and clean
The Belchers are at a store buying something. The store is far busier with a variety of things on the shelves.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The climactic moment of both dinners involve Rudy accidentally spilling something. In the first case water.
In the second, the truth.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Rudy is shown twice at the center of a group positioned far lower than them. Tina and Gene are literally partitioned off in this shot to allow the audience to focus on the connection between Bob and Linda and Louise and Rudy.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The final comparison I want to make is the beginning and the end. A bird leaves the nest alone in the morning. At night two kids leave together. There's stuff to be said about how the birds represent Bob and Linda and how Bob and Linda are positioned to parallel Rudy and Louise but this isn't a ship evidence post. I mean, if you ship you spotted all that straight away, no need for me to tell you.
The Amazing Rudy might be on a structural level the finest episode Bobs Burgers has ever made. An incredible amount of care must have went into this episode and I hope future episodes can be as great as this one.

I love how his interaction with the puppets reveals an admiral trait about him.
He's able to see that Pearl and the Pups' problem stem from their own issues, and he helps them for the sake of being kind.
He's patient with Ray, showing him the error of his methods and teaching him new solution despite Ray being initially difficult.
Goblette is particularly telling because pacifying her isn't enough. Gordon has to go down to her level and express his own experiences to help her process her emotions. He's actively empathizing.
Arnold, while required, still shows a lot. Gordon is reluctant at first knowing that he will most likely fail the request, but still makes an attempt at Arnold's behest. He's willing to try.
He's probably also the first adult that's stepped foot in the studio after it shut down. Ricky's trying his best, but the size difference and lack of appendages prevent him from really establishing any authority. Here comes Gordon with his thumbs and - more importantly - him being a good person.
Who better to be that adult role model than a good person?
I really like how My Friendly Neighborhood decided to have a philosophical conflict on the story.
Unfortunately I got annoyed at someone misunderstanding the conflict so I stopped watching lmao.
Gordon as the main character is great because he's a great vehicle for the conflict.
Gordon is essentially throwing his life away for a TV ANTENNA, something that's seen by the news/interviews as something completely insane. Gordon has also not killed a single puppet, even when being confronted about being a criminal by Ricky, Gordon can also befriend some of the special enemies and bond with them as people grieving from war and struggling with things in general.
The entire conflict seems to range from how much you should care about other people. From teaching children to care about others to SACRIFICING YOUR LIFE IN WAR.
I'm kind of sad some people got stuck in memeing the game and really didn't pay a lot of attention to the super cool things Gordon is bringing to the game's story and conflict.
I could say more but I need to see more of the game first.
