Day 6 post op. I am upright and in a wheelchair for an extended period of time!! What does this mean? It means my spine and nerves are working hard to repair themselves. Although my strength is nowhere near it was, I know that with my body repairing itself internally all of this will seem like a non factor before I know it. The skill I’ve decided to focus on developing during this time, is patience. Because I’m still unable to stand on my own power, but my legs get stronger every single day. Day 6 post-op. I’m officially out of the hospital and my rehabilitation officially begins as soon as my mountain of paperwork is completed. I just want to take a minute to shout out every one of the staff I worked with at Toledo Hospital. You all are a special breed of human and I truly have a new appreciation for anyone who is in the profession. Those ladies pushed me when I wanted to quit and felt sorry for myself. 4 days ago, I had 0 control on my lower extremities, today I positioned myself out of bed and stood up with the Assistance of a physical therapist, or nurse. I will admit that this took a lot of energy to do, but every day I’m getting stronger little by little. I will be back to normal before I know it. None of this would have been possible if I kept feeling sorry for myself. Day 4 update. Yesterday it took all of my strength to stand on my own power. Today, the only pain I have is muscle soreness and a tiny amount of nerve pain. Yesterday I made a shift in my thinking and nothing but great things have happened. Going into the day I thought I could only move my legs and I was going to be in a bed at least for another week. But what changed? I said if a small amount of grit and tears could get me closer to living a normal life, I will do what is necessary to begin living my life again. So not only has this led to improved strength, lower pain levels, but I also got word that I could be leaving the hospital today to begin the rehabilitation process. After getting woke up at 4 am for more blood work just now, it was yet another first try without having to move that needle around or try for a different vein. This has never been the case my entire life, I’ve always been told I have “tiny” or “deep” veins..... Then I started using Niteworks a few months ago. This stuff that is on the heart health line helps the body’s natural production of nitric oxide, which widens veins and blood vessels without increasing the heart rate, therefore creating better blood flow. There is something about this photo that just sets my soul on fire. This girl went from a added Facebook contact to one of my best friends. When I was rushed to the hospital, she was the first person to come visit, not only that but she brought me a beauty booster tea and a shake! All I can say is this friendship is the epitome of opening your mind and heart to possibilities instead of being sheltered by past decisions. Through grit and determination I was able to push myself to get out of bed and sitting up right. You guys have no idea how difficult this was. Every single day my legs are getting stronger. Day 3 update. This has been the most painful experience I’ve ever lived through. I still can not lift my legs or walk, but I’m moving a little better than yesterday. But still I have have so much to be grateful for even during this trying time. When I say my herbalife family is the best, I mean that from the bottom of my heart. Clients, coaches, uplines, downlines, sidelines, cross lines, whatever word you want to use, just know that the thoughts and prayers are the driving force for me right now. Day 2 update. I’m still in a lot of discomfort, I can move my legs but I have absolutely no strength so I am unable to walk. But if you ask me, this is a blessing.... If I didn’t go to the ER after physical therapy, I would have probably been angel chair bound for the rest of my life. My recovery window is 3-6 months for a complete recovery. But this will not stop me from competing in Ironman races and the Annual Herbalife Triathlon. It’s still a lot to take in and I’m still in shock about everything. So I will be back to working before I know it. As some of you might know, I’ve been dealing with a lot of lower back issues off and on over the past few months. Due to a regression in my physical therapy over the past few weeks, I was finally able to get in for an MRI and the results were not good. Last night I was transported to Toledo Hospital and I am awaiting when I will be having surgery. I am extremely grateful that I’ve lost 238 pounds because I can only imagine what this would feel like with all that weight still on my body, but I’m even more grateful for the support I’ve gotten from my Herbalife family. I will still be glad to help and serve all of my current and prospective clients, but not until some time next week. If you’re interested in anything or helping out by placing an order just let me know and I will do my best to accommodate and communicate while I’m recovering. Why do I value a friendship with a 7 year old? It’s easy to explain, Carmela helps keep me things in proper perspective. This is only a picture, but I still say there is a lot we can learn from children.
